I'm on holiday in a week, so I think I will have to withdraw - not fair to start and then go on holiday.

I'll have to wait until the next CoTCT. Fortunately it seems to come up fairly often.

A modified post from your Jade Regent recruitment thread. Good luck to all applicants.

Character Concept

There has been a character concept I've been wanting to try for awhile -

Essentially a mobile tactical fighter. He is intelligent, great at reading a battlefield, and tricking his enemies.

Name - Falcon Dragorian.
Chaotic Good - Human - Fighter (Two Handed Archetype).

I did a big write-up from a higher level perspective which you can find here if you are interested. Though the details have changed slightly since then, the 'standard action fighter' part of it remains the same. I can crunch him down to level 1 very quick. First level feats would probably be Power Attack, Combat Expertise, and Improved Feint.

Quick Background
He has been a wanderer, working as a guard or a soldier where he can to feed his belly. He doesn't feel that his skills have been really appreciated but has recently he has heard about rumors and rumblings in Varsia and thought it might be a good place to go to earn some coin and the travel might settle his wanderlust.

Eventually he came to Varsia and the hustle of the major city that is Korvosa. Although it's slightly unsettling being in such a large city, there is work to be found. He is currently involved in doing some freelance work and catching criminals.

Posting
I can easily post once a day, usually more and I can almost always post on weekends except for the very occasional weekend trip.

AP Knowledge
I only know about Curse of the Crimson Throne from what is posted on the Paizo website. It does sound like an interesting AP and I look forward to exploring Varsia.

Contributions
Combat wise - Damage and trips (eventually Greater Trip), and eventually greater feints (AKA - rogue's best friend).

Non combat - Bluff would probably be his most useful out of combat skill.

Response:

Falcon puts down his drink of ale, it wasn't good anyway and he wonders if Shoreline Drinkhall waters down the drinks. Falcon quickly stands and he goes and see's what the commotion is about. Recognizing that the halfling is in trouble he will come to his defense.

I just got here and I already found trouble

Hey lady, you picking on my halfling friend over there? Might not be such a good idea. Besides I have a couple more friends waiting just outside.

Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Hopefully the unusual looking lady will back down but just in case Falcon adopts a fighting stance in case things get ugly. Besides, she looks dangerous and he really doesn't really have any backup.

"It is time to determine the chosen," the woman said. She was alone in her home, but she spoke as if in conversation. "These five must possess the greatest honor, the greatest strength, the greatest potential, and, perhaps most importantly, the greatest anger. They shall be my tools of vengeance against Lamm."

She shuffled a deck of cards sitting in front of her and drew one, peering closely at it. It was the Big Sky card. "Yes. Gyllan Dow shall unshackle the bonds of my torment. His knowledge of the streets and his hatred for Lamm shall be of great value." She scrawls a message on the card and places it face up on the table before drawing another card.

This time it is the Avalanche. "Ah yes, we shall recruit one that is evil to our cause in order to do the things that must done. Durriken is not subtle, but he is effective. He, too, shall be of great value." Again she scrawls a message and places the card on the table before drawing another.

The next card is The Rabbit Prince, "Aha! The Prince of Hares. Yes, 'Fingers' abilities shall be put to the test in this effort. We may have to ply him with the promise of coin, but the hope of revenge should be motivation enough."

She repeats her ritual and draws another card. It is the Owl. "Yes. Our task requires wisdom. And Corso carries this in spades. Despite his easy life, he has lived beyond his years. We need his prudence to serve as a guide." As she scrawls the message, she says, "One more to go."

The final card is drawn from the deck. It is The Joke. "But of course. Another of my craft is a natural choice for this task. Arianna Elizabeta Sirmikova shall ply her arcane abilities and her harmony with the Harrow to fulfill this task."

----

All right, everyone. The party has been chosen. The five are:

Gyllan Dow
Durriken Garde
"Fingers" Mitchell
Corso Gaczi
Arianna Elizabeta Sirmikova

Those selected should head over to the Discussion Thread to check in.

If you weren't selected, my apologies - particularly if you applied to both games. Again, there were some amazing applications and it was supremely difficult to narrow it down.

I look forward to seeing you all around the boards.

Cheers,
Cello

Have fun, guys!

oh well guess I'll put this character back on the shelf.

wasn't expecting to be chosen anyway for this game.

And the search for a game continues.

Thanks for any consideration.

Thanks very much for the selection, and the very cool description of it!

Very nice intro, thank you for the selection!

Bah missed out on applying...ah well.

Oh well, at least I got into the Jade Regent game. Hoping for both would have been too...greedy.

Congratulations to those who got in. I'm sure it'll be a fun game.

Drat. Ah well, good luck to those who made it! Have fun; it's a FANTASTIC adventure!

Alas, maybe somewhere else. Thanks for the consideration.

GM - if you have time may I ask what you thought about my concept and why I wasn't chosen?

I'm not doing this to complain - I'm honestly interested in other peoples opinions especially from a GMs point of view. I know that the background is a bit light but I'd still like to hear what you think.

Thanks.

Hey!

GM - I made this guy for Pathfinder, but he's currently playing in this same AP under the Savage World's game type.

GM Only - He's not very far, only just working his way into:
All the world's meat.

I've really wanted to play him in Pathfinder, having made him for that originally with a very extensive back story (provides a ton of hooks). His focus is damage reduction, but he's a Free-Hand Fighter/Invulnerable Barbarian homeless Half-Elf who although punk by nature, once had a good upbringing and aspires to become a Sable Marine.

Gaedren got him into drugs and as such, he absolutely despises the man.

His backstory and personality etc are in all in this profile, but if you like the sound of things, I'll create a new alias for his Pathfinder build.

He'll be taking Diehard and Endurance, along with Stalwart, improved Stalwart and other things that massively reduce damage. Guarded Lifem, Renewed Vigor etc.

He's primarily a Barbarian (due to his anger and angst ridden personality), but has the mind of a Fighter deep down, and will likely turn incredibly honourable later down the line, possibly even hitting LG territory. :)

Sovereign Court

I am submitting a rogue to be a replacement character. I built this character for PFS play, but he's only been involved in one slow-moving game. I really enjoy playing him though. I would only need to swap out one trait and drop starting GP by 10 to make him fit this campaign's guidelines. I will create a new alias for him if selected.

Darius is the oldest son in a respectable merchant family in Korvosa. His father owns a small shop, and while his family is nowhere near the eilte, they are comfortable. Last year there was a murder in their neighborhood, and Darius' youngest brother, who is a bit of a rascal, was implicated.

Darius later learned that his brother was framed. Still, the stain on his family's reputation has been bad for business, and Darius sees it as his duty to clear the family name.

Darius is Chaotic Good, and I intend to play him as an occasionally rash heroic type.

Scenario Darius would rush over to the fallen halfling and check him for vital signs. He would offer aid, quietly, if he was able. He'd look up at the woman and say "Why did this happen?".

Posting I can post at least 1-2 times per day.

Familiarity I have never done anything with this AP, though I did read the player's guide.

Mechanics Darius can deal with sneaking, traps, and talking (he likes to be the party face). In combat he's set up to be a two-weapon stabber, though I was planning to wait until level 2 for Finesse Rogue and TWF won't really be a great option until about 3rd level.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

since I'm taking over this thread, I'll look at him too. We are on a short hiatus while I get up to speed and will go from there. At first blush, Darius looks good, but I'll get back to you soon if I see any issues.

Any character creation info?

I think re-recruitment is on hold for a bit here. We're not exactly sure what we need, if anything. Will post here again, if the group decides on adding.

I'm submitting Elegad Espris, however I've been playing in a savage world's version of it (haven't got far) and it's been put on hold I think indefinitely for the time being, so would like to submit my pathfinder version which was the original vision of my character.

Thanks for the consideration!

Grand Lodge

Well, I'm back from holiday if you decide to recruit.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

Looking for 1 (or possibly two) players to join an existing CotCT game. The original GM bailed early on, and I (who was a player at the time) took over, running my PC as NPC.

The players are looking for an additional voice to bounce off and a different skill set in the group.

We will be taking the 1st "very interesting" submission we get. The players will have as much voice in this as the GM, and you can expect questions from any of them. If we are seriously overwhelmed by a second submission, we may consider them as well.

Right now the party is:

Gyllan - Urban Ranger
Durriken - Ranger, with evil bent
Arianna - Witch
Corso - Bard, Arcane Duelist and scion of a noble family in Korvosa.
Fingers - a rogue will be exiting as new PC (or PC's arrive).

Class and skills should mesh into the existing group without much duplication. Ability to post daily (including weekends) is required.Terrific characters will have a background that ties them to Korvosa which is undergoing some upheaval with the recent death of the King. Ability to provide interesting role-play and fit in well with existing party is most important criteria. We are not looking for a mechanical, dice rolling machine here.

CHARACTER CREATION
The following is posted for information only - you don't need to have a completed stat block to apply. Concept, background, imagination, and ability to role-play are most important in the beginning. In the interest of expediency no exceptions will be made to the rules posted. Sorry.

Players will start at 1st or 2nd level.
Any non-evil alignment is allowed, but if you choose Chaotic Neutral, please provide a little note about what that alignment means to you in your application.
20-point ability buy. No score may be lower than 8 after racial adjustments.
Max HP for your class for 1st level, 2nd level will be as for PFS, 1/2 max+1.
2 traits - normally one would be a campaign trait, but the need for that tie in has passed.
Max starting gold for your class if first level; 600gp to start if at second level
Core races only, please
All material must be from a hard-bound Paizo reference book. Items from 3rd Party or gazetteers will not be accepted.

Hope to have this wrapped up by the end of the week, but with the holidays it may be delayed.

Rhade is an oracle that was built for another version of a CoCT that ran its course. I'd love to play her in your game. If selected, I'd make sure the stats and equipment were kosher per your guidelines. Her information is in her profile, and I'd be happy to change anything if necessary. Thanks for the consideration.

Edit: aw heck, just saw core races only. Well, dang. Good luck to you all, however.

Mmmm, I've started this one a couple times. Never made it much past the confrontation with Lamm. Plus, I can't resist the possibility of another game with Dreaming Warforged...

Lets see....

Important Skills (best bonus in party):
Diplomacy - +10 Corso
Perception - +8 Gyllan
Knowledges - Local +4, Arcana +7, Nature +7, Planes +7, Nobility +4
Intimidate - +8 Corso
Spellcraft - +7 Arianna
Sense Motive - +8/+10 Gyllan
Stealth - +7 Gyllan (at least everyone is at +2)
UMD - +6 Corso/Arianna

So everything except disable device and knowledge (religion) covered, new character should be stealthy to fit in with the group.

Also looks like you've got melee and crowd control covered. Party appears to be lacking a bit in healing, divine magic and a ranged character.

I'd like to play an inquisitor, a warpriest or a zen archer. How do you feel about warpriest from the ACG playtest? Are any of the party particularly religious, or particularly opposed to one deity?

I'll need to read the gameplay thread to get a feel for the characters' personalities. Dreaming Warforged has played with me plenty, she (he?) should be able to vouch for my posting rate and (hopefully) quality ;)

Hey, Doc! <waves>

I've tried to get into a running of this a couple of times, and have a character built that fills the ranged combatant hole Jelani identified. Let me go back and find it . . .. I recognize that the group would probably best be served with a rogue, but I'm already running more rogues than I thought I would, including one who's a ranged combatant! If that gets me passed over this time, so be it.

Obviously, this is EXACTLY as posted for that previous recruitment. I would probably be well-advised to alter the background to account for the fact that Lamm doesn't exist anymore. I also have more money to spend, 2 languages to pick, and would love to go ahead and bump him to Level 2, but I shan't do anything along any of those lines without a go-ahead.

Savinus, Human (Chelaxian) Fighter (No Archetype) The original planned build.

Background:
Growing up in the Shingles really isn't that hard. Lots of people do it. Escaping the Shingles, on the other hand . . .. As Savinus got older, and learned to understand more about power structures and relationships, he started trying to find the right relationships to get himself, his parents, and his younger sister (Aeliana) into a "real home". He started with some simple bodyguard jobs before working his way up into a caravan guard position, which is where he started getting most of his real training and equipment. A month ago, Savinus returned to Korvosa to find his parents and sister had vanished. Asking around, he was told that some of Lamm's men had come to collect a debt his father owed. Nobody has seen any of them since.
More investigation suggested that Aeliana was now a "Little Lamm," and that his parents had been relieved of their burdens. Since then, he's been trying to get the Korvosan Guard to do their job and deal with Lamm as the monster he so obviously is. His frustration at their continued apparent lack of effort is matched only by his frustration at his inability to find (and deal with) Lamm himself.

Goals:
Well, hopefully it is obvious that Savinus had one main goal that he THOUGHT he was making good progress towards, and that was getting his family out of the Shingles.
Now he needs to try to find and rescue his family, if he can and THEN get them out of the Shingles. He hasn't really looked past that goal, though he has hopes of finding work that doesn't require combat and somebody he can enjoy spending his time with for the next 20 or 30 years.

Appearance:
A young man of unimposing stature, Savinus' pale skin, hair so dark that only the highlights show any signs of brown and dark eyes display a nearly pure Chelaxian bloodline. His worn gear, armor and weapons suggest that he's not a powerful member of the Chelaxian ruling class. The look in his eyes is not the typical calculation or brooding look expected of a Chelaxian, either, but one showing concern, or even compassion. The few lines on his young face reveal no inclination to smile.

Combat:

Edit: Heh. It looks like this game was one of (if not the) first game Savinus was provided to as an application. The background's morphed some from the original submission, but the concept is pretty simple.

Edit2: I got SMURFED!

I would like to submit Black Dhugal for your consideration. His character sheet, stat block, background, appearance, personality and level progression are in his profile.

Interested in joining in with a Infiltrator archetype inquisitor. The son of a retired guardsmen, my (to be named) inquisitor of Cayden Cailen has a healthy skepticism for the authorities. His father fought for years against corruption in the guard and was left with nothing to show for it. Deciding that another route would serve the people of Korvosa better, the young man took in with a local vigilante group where he found his faith (needs detail). The group has dwindled over the years and he finds himself alone far more then comfortable. He's now looking to join efforts with like minded individuals to rid Korvosa of its infection as best he can. Favoring his trusty longbow, that will likely be at arrow point. My character would be built with a sneaky/ranged focus. More details to follow.

I'm a player in Dreaming Warforge's Jade Regent, so he can vouch (or not ;) ) for the quality and quantity of my role play.

Okay, I just finished reading the entire gameplay thread! Now I really want to get into this game, it seems like there's a good group dynamic going, and DM DoctorEvil seems to be involved and a frequent poster :)

I'll be working on a LN dwarven zen archer. He's a Korvosan Guardsman and follower of Abadar. I think he'll be an interesting middle ground between Durriken's evil pragmatism, Gyllan/Arianna's goodness, and Corso's self serving foppishness. He'll be a lawful guardsman first and foremost, who's been around long enough to keep a level head.

He was detained by circumstances during the night of the king's death. Facing his own encounter with an Otyugh, he wasn't as lucky as the heroes, and was knocked unconscious under the rubble of a collapsed building. It wasn't until after Field Marshall Kroft sent the others to find Vancaskerkin that he was dug out of the rubble and healed. Kroft sent him after them immediately as reinforcement, and to make sure they didn't go too far outside the law.

I'll post later once I've got an alias going. I've got the day off so I plan on finishing the character today. I'll be making him level 2, as the other players have reached level 2 according to the gameplay thread.

Here is my character.

Ulrgim "Deadeye" Clanless

Please note that while his archery is actually kind of crappy right now, it will improve dramatically at level 3 when he can start adding wisdom to his attacks with a bow. He should replace Finger's ability with disable device and shore up the group's lack of knowledge religion a little. He also compliments Gyllan's sense motive and has a good perception and decent stealth. Hope you guys like him!

Alright so I got a cleric of Shelyn here. I played Crimson Throne before, but I didn't get further than where I think your group is now.

Anyway, he's a laypriest at the temple of Shelyn in Korvosa, who doesn't feel he fits in quite right and the way he sees it, he's either going to need to leave the city or go off and try to end the chaos.

If at possible, I'd like to discuss the possibility of a link to one of the NPCs or PCs to maybe solidify his role in it, seeing as the campaign traits become irrelevant after the first act of the campaign.

Description+Background:

Description: Henric is a somewhat short young man with dusky skin, soft features and a boyish face coupled with a stringy varisian style beard. He's well kept, wearing fine clothes and not a hair out of place. He's short, with broad shoulders and dark eyes and hair. His weapon of choice is a glaive, and this weapon coupled with his purple cleric's vestments mark him as a priest of Shelyn, goddess of art and beauty

Henric is a calm, soft spoken young man who dislikes violence, but occasionally sees why it may be necessary. When he does seriously get into a fight, he's nearly consumed with anger. His worn fists look like they have seen their share of fights in the past. He enjoys good food and drink, as well as poetry and storytelling. He considers all of these things to be art. Art is an important component in this young man's life, whether it be creating it or just appreciating it in all of it's many forms, as he believes in seeing the beauty of all things. Recently he however, he's taken an interest of the workings of cults and the undead. For some reason, he seems to have an unusual amount of knowledge in both for one not dedicating to hunting them down.

Background: Despite his usually calm demeanor, when Henric was young, he was in fact very angry. Perhaps it had something to do with the nasty rumors that his mother was a Calistrian whore, which he was unable or unwilling to refute. This was because as a boy he lived surrounded by taverns and brothels, and seemed to have a vague connection with the Calistrian church in Magnimar. Perhaps the turning point was when his uncle was murdered by Hellknights over a misunderstanding. Maybe his lack of strength child or his Varisian heritage in a Chelaxian ward which made him being prone to being picked on. Either way, he no longer talks about his childhood or his parents, and has not talked about either in years. As a teenager, food and drink became a respite from the bleaker aspects of his life in Korvosa. He eventually got bored of his normal day to day and started to search for something to give his life more purpose. He studied conjuration rituals, meditation, and eventually, the state of undeath and through this he came upon the book of Urgathoa, and through this book, he met one of the priestesses, who inducted him into the cult of Urgathoa. And for a time he enjoyed it. He feasted, he drank, he philosophized, he consorted with the undead, and for the first time in his life, he felt powerful. He donned himself in dark grey robes and began to learn the art of raising the dead. When he was given his scythe and grey robes, he felt a great pride, as if he would no longer need to flee death. However when his cell was fallen upon by a group of longsword wielding zombie slayers, the priestess was willing to throw him to the soldiers to save her own hide and turn herself into some horrible undead abomination. Enraged, he took his chance in the resulting chaos to slaughter his fellow cultists. Though halfway through the battle, he realized that revenge, was a fools game. So in the end he killed the priestess. Not out of anger, but out of his desire to start anew. The rest of those attacking the cult didn't acknowledge or notice his actions favorable. He fled, bleeding from injuries from both sides. Whether it was fate or coincidence or perhaps some part of him knew is unknown even to him, but either way that day was in fact the Winter Solstice, one of the holiest days in the Shelyn worshipers' religion, and he collapsed on the steps of their temple. He was laid up in the temple for weeks with no other place to go. He sold his positions to pay for his treatment. In time the worshipers were impressed by his knowledge of literature and cooking. Henric renounced his past and his own god. The young man became acquainted with a paladin of the goddess Shelyn, and with her he learned the art of the glaive and the teachings of the goddess. Seeing as he already had a knack for being a priest, he eventually studied and became a lay priest of Shelyn. He traded in the gray robes and scythe for purple robes and a glaive. Putting his past behind him and focusing on his art gave him an inner peace he hadn't felt before. Over the months he mellowed out, but a part of him remained restless. After a time he felt like he just plain didn't belong. Henric decided he would be more proactive in solving Korvosa's problems, but without the use of violence whenever possible.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Maps Subscriber

I am looking at all of you tonight and will have some questions/decision tomorrow. Thanks for your interest.

I hadn't realized that Durriken was planning to go the archery route. If that's the case, then I think I'll drop my ranged inquisitor idea and will go for an alchemist concept instead. I'm thinking I'll take the trap breaker archetype and (if it's not an issue) the vivisectionist archetype as well. My character was born of Sczarni parents and when they botched a critical mission, the entire family was summarily executed and left for dead. By some miracle of chance, the young Iozif was left alive, but his throat was badly mangled in the attempt on his life.

Found by a priest of Desna, the young boy was raised by the church and was offered a relatively normal life. He retained a strange fascination with anatomy that, given previous circumstances, was of concern to the priests. They channeled this interest into a focus on medicine, which is the career he is currently pursuing. Despite their best efforts, young Iozif's burning desire for revenge on the thugs who murdered his 'law-abiding' parents has extended into a general disdain for the corrupt and ineffectual authorities. With some self-taught (and hereditary) skill at second-story work as well as a working knowledge of anatomy, the young man would make a formidable ally for anyone seeking to serve the common folk of Korvosa. Should any Sczarni thugs happen to get in the way, then all the better.

This is Rikash chiming in with a basic profile for Iozif. Something nicer (see my aliases Daeron Larethor, Wilhelm Orlovsky or Jokum Tannith) will have to wait for when I'm not so tired.

Thank you for submissions, one and all. I am closing recruitment again based on what we have.

After getting feedback from the players, and reviewing the applications, we will take DM Jelani's Zen Archer, Deadeye, into the group.

My second choice is the Varisian alchemist Iozif Vasile. I am querying the group to see if they are amenable to adding a second player now as well, so Iozif is on stand-by until i hear back. Sorry, but better than nothing.

For the others, thanks for applying, but it's tough to get in one slot. If it was up to me, I'd run another game iwth all of you, but "the Lord and my wife wouldn't take it very good" if I devoted even more time to this hobby at present. Good luck in future applications!

DM Jelani, let's discuss a way to fold you into the game which may be after the heroes return a now subdued Verik Vancaskerkin to FM Croft.

Iozif, you'll get an answer soon!

Fair enough. Have fun, everybody!

Congratulations to DM Jelani and here's hoping a 6th player sounds good to everyone. :)

Yes, good luck everyone! Have fun!

3 of the 4 have agreed to take on a 6th player, and the other didn't respond. I'll take majority rules this time.

Rikash, you may join us in the discussion tab with your PC, and we'll likely have you join, along with DM Jelani's zen archer, when the party gets back to Citadel Volshyenek with their new captive.
