Hello Rush! Welcome! I'm a graduate student in California working on my degree studying child development and brain development. I used to be in the same lab as SubiculumHammer. I've played in a few DnD games, and a couple of short Pathfinder sessions, but primarily play in more rules-light story-driven RPG's. I like both though!
M Human Barbarian/4
Big Belliott is a somewhat quiet and superstitious barbarian-sort. He was picked up in a lifeboat after getting marooned by the crew that he was on last.
Does the tent have an opening that we can see, and to which side is it?
Ghouls seems nasty, and the group is short on magical cures
Tap is thinking about using silent image to mask their approach, but would prefer an approach that does not face a tent opening, if possible.
M Human Barbarian/4
Belliott might know some sort of sensory shortcoming that they would have. A wily survivor like him probably evaded ghouls before.
M Human Barbarian/4
But yeah I agree, avoiding a confrontation with the ghouls is the best way around it. Despite his aggression I think that Belliott would be peeved enough by the ghouls to not attempt a direct approach.
Hi Rush...I'm also a member of the working Dad club. Welcome!
There's an opening at the front that shows the interior, but it is completely dark within - no lights inside and the dark canopy overhead
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
Working dad here too. I, uh, do software dev in decision neuro, and i'm ready to kick some ghoul arse.
Sorry Tap, I've never been a fan of the flammable grease spell...I think it makes it too powerful a spell for first level. I think a better use would be to set it in front of the tent opening, light the tent afire with standard means, and watch the fleeing targets slip and break some hips.
I have to agree about it being too powerful if it burns.
Sure would be nice though;)
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
how much damage might i be able to do by throwing rocks? assuming there are rocks i could pick up and throw.
moral of the story: always carry a ranged weapon.
Here is an idea. What if we lead them back to the frog poles :)
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
we killed the froggies. might have been nice to fight the ghouls on the piles, and push them in to be eaten by frogs.
GM Nayr. I'm sorry to slow the game down, but the possibility of 6+ ghouls sounds dangerous. So I have to ask, what does the terrain look like in the green area? How far away can I get from the tent and still see it, shoot a bow at it? I think it would be good to use ranged weapons and move back if they chase, but I'm not sure what the terrain is like.
I took a little liberty with the map, hope you don't mind.
No problem at all Tap!
The green area is the "path" and the area about the path that is passable. There are no hindrances to movement on the green, and the off-green about the tent. The blue area is bog - so it could be shallow bog, deep bog, or even quicksand.
I'd treat a rock as a simple weapon, 1-2 damage + 1/2 your strength mod. I don't agree with it being an improvised weapon, as everyone can throw a rock
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
cool.
sounds like rocks won't cut it. i'd better just go in for the kill and hope i don't get sick.
OK. So are we going to do start close, or start far away?
Starting far gives us a few shots at them before they reach us. Starting close might keep them in the fire longer. I'm fine with either, but we need to just pick one.
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
i guess we'll stay here. probably would need everyone to do stealth checks otherwise.
Okay, here's where the readied actions will come into play. Even though the ghouls act before you, your readied action will take precedence. This is not really per the rules, but I think it's logical, so we're going with it. So, the ghouls are going to advance upon you at a run, please take your readied actions, figuring that they'll be within range of whatever you prepared by the end of their move.
Tap - you didn't have a readied action due to the firing of the arrow...grease may not work now, unless you put it where they end their run, assuming its in a neat group.

Having never done a pbp before, are there any special rules for combat I should be aware of?
FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map
Wow I didn't realize they could traverse that far in one turn.
OK.
Let's do this.
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
within range of a sword? or of a missile weapon?
Not really Rush - fairly basic per the Pathfinder system. I'd prefer you include your own rolls, and feel fee to post out of order and I'll adjust. You can log onto the map and edit yourself if you like, or just let me know where you move.
Yeah, they see food and they're a-haulin'.
Yes Jack - either. I'd assume sword...these guys are straight out running.
I didnt realize, but yeah. As a full round action, 4x speed over normal terrain.
So, are we actually against a forest wall, or can we back up more into the trail?
You can definitely back up the trail, if you like.
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
I assume that since they are running they lose their dexterity bonuses, if any?
That's not a bad argument, I'm good with that. They will not be flat-footed, but while running, their effective AC is 12
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
dang, i think undead are immune to intimidate.
Sorry guys, thought I was waiting on Belliott's roll; thanks Tap for pointing it out. I'm in a meeting for the next few hours, but will try and post the 1st round this evening.
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
making ghoulash. that's funny Tap
FleetFooted Halfling 39/39 hp |Loot|The Shackles Map
if only the fight in Carrion Crown was going this well.
Geez, no kidding; only 1 left, unless Rush or Kerruk can take it out.
Ha! That is pretty much exactly what I would expect Jack to say in such a situation.
Sorry guys; busy weekend with the family
M Human Barbarian/4
No worries! Happy Memorial day!
Happy Memorial Day to you too!
Jack: It take a standard action for Tap to start singing. The bonus is nice being +1/+1, but it takes a while for that to make back the damage from my first attack, and in the meantime they get to attack more. Its a little frustrating.
At level 7 I can start it as a move action, which is good..but I have to wait until level 7.

GM, were all of the things listed as loot from the ghoul's tent inside the chest, or in addition to?
More of the map in the campaign thread revealed - C4 was the toad fight and C5 was the ghoul whorehouse
Guys - I'll be on the road from this afternoon through Wednesday evening. I'll be checking in, but posting will be on my phone, so a bit limited.
I'll have you updated to be back on the ship before I leave town
he he Jack slipped and thinks he is Tap.
Given Jack and my RL 'context', that is funny indeed.
Seems lazy for me to not have any mechanics or checks involved with that, but I didn't see any reason that the cap'n would argue with the chance to loot - possibly off-shore, with no crew to defend the looted ship.
Feel free to RP any interaction, or just go to sleep and we'll fast forward.
I figured as much. I mean we are pirates after all.
Ah, leaving for 5 day camping trip at the beach. Find 5 inch nail in my tire. PIA
Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5
well, that is a pia. is it in the sidewall? usually have to replace tire instad of patching in that case
