Fixed. I forgot that my phone doesn't like to keep the = when I attempt to paste URLs.

I'm looking to get back into a Pathfinder game after a few years without picking up a d20, be it physical or digital. I'm considering submitting either a monk or an ancestors shaman, in either case a human with the Aquatic Ancestry alternate racial trait and a grandfather who turned into a skum after he died.

Would you be willing to allow me to slightly alter the background info of the Seasoned Hunter campaign trait? Mechanically it would remain unchanged, but it would be more appropriate to call it Seasoned Fisherman for the character background I'm considering.

No problems there - I have no objection with renaming things :) I look forward to seeing the character.

As well, I'm not sure if it's been seen, but the PM has been sent. As an idea of where I want to take it, I'd like to use Artful Dodge, qualify for some ranged feats via Intelligence, take Focused Offense, and be a secondary library of sorts to Evelyn, a story for every creature type of vibe.

Character Backstory:

Traditionally goes by Rovine. Rovine was born on the island Escadar as part of a family who are members of the House of the Cresting Wave. At a young age, Rovine was exposed to the Pathfinder Society and gained a sense of adventure. After much convincing his parents allowed him to join the society and he trained to become a pathfinder. After several years Rovine finally passed his confirmation and became a full-fledged member of the Pathfinder Society. Almost predictable Rovine became almost exclusively interested in Azlanti lore due to the stories his people had always told him about their connections to Ancient Azlant and the Aboleths. When word of the formation of the colony reached Rovine he jumped at the chance and left Absalom for Almas. Never the one to be discouraged Rovine hid his Pathfinder Society connections and convinced the Bountiful Venture Company of his expertice as an explorer of ruins and dealing with such problems associated with exploring such ancient places.

I have never tried PbP before, but I have always wanted to and this seems like a great Campaign to try. I have always liked the archeologist bard and it seems like a great fit for this campaign. I also like the limitations and benefits a Gillman can bring to a campaign like this. I know I am a bit late to post, but I just noticed this thread.

I am submitting a druid Joshua Jericho for this. I still need to finish gear but everything else should be done.

Here's my character application. An elven arcanist and Azlanti scholar.

please note that Fleur's sheet (ie profile) should now be complete... with background, traits, and feat... do let me know if you see anything that needs tweaking. Hope you like her.

Dotting interest.

This is Hefty throwing in now with Dariim bin Abodoyil, a Wizard focusing on Conjuration (Teleportation). Crunch is nicely laid out in the profile, highlights are that he will be a Controller in combat and brings Knowledge/Magic Utility out of combat early and can go into crafting if desired by the party later on.

Background is included on the sheet, but in short he is a the member of a Nethysian cult focused on the gods planar implications and deific rise, partially for understanding and partially for personal gain. He is a scholar of ancient Azlant (leading to the campaign trait) and is seeking magic- and planes-specific lore.

GM Nikolaus, any word on Soulknife and/or living legend?

I'm afraid I will have to pass on those two Joseph. If you want something similar then either Mindblade (magus archetype) or Medium seem to have similar flavours from pathfinder. I'd be open to hybridising them if you wanted.

@Kevin: Thank you very much for compiling the list, it is very helpful and much appreciated. Have a virtual cookie!

It's all good. I'll put some thought into alternative character concepts and get back to you.

Hey GM Nikolaus, one of the games I'm in appears to be back from the dead. I play a barbarian in it that is very similar to Taldo. so to focus on my other games, I'm going to remove my application from this one.

Good luck to everyone and have fun, I will be reading along.

Character Submissions

I'm not trying to be a busybody posting in a thread I'm not applying in, but it might be helpful to note that the GM said Evelyn Goldwall, the Archaeologist Bard, is guaranteed a spot in the game. Knowing that might impact the submissions of other players.

"What is this? You are looking for people to conquer Azlant? Relax, you don't need to look any longer. Aurelian Fache has decided to join your expedition!

"You wish to know my qualifications? You have not heard of me? No, say it isn't so! Very well, they are simple: Aurelian Fache was the greatest student at the Dartathos Academy that Steyr has ever produced. On the very day Aurelian Fache joined the Academy so that he might learn the fine arts of dueling -- on that very day! -- he so impressed the school matron with his blade that she took him to her bed, declaring the next morning that he must truly be the greatest lover in all of Avistan!

"It will be dangerous, you say? No, do not be silly! Were you not listening? Aurelian Fache does not need to be afraid of the island, the island must be afraid of Aurelian Fache! Can an island wield a blade with such deadly precision as I? Can the island love as skillfully as I? Can the island swim or tumble, like I? I will show you -- hold my shirt! You see? Can the island smile like I, make men and women, young and old, tremble at the knees? Aurelian Fache thinks not!

"You say you seek to colonize, not conquer? Very well, Aurelian Fache must have misheard, but this is no matter. Aurelian Fache is very good with other people. His mother and six older sisters raised him in the tradition of his father -- killed in Galt before Aurelian Fache was even born! -- so I get along with all people, be they lovers or family or even those who haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting Aurelian Fache! A new home will be good -- The Faches have no desire to go back to the madness of Galt, but Steyr was not meant to be home forever. Aurelian Fache shall colonize this island and then send for his family, that they may make a new home that is truly their own!"

I'm a long-time PBP'er, so would love to get into a Ruins game. Aurelian's a simple lad, but I think should be a fun addition to a campaign. He'll happily push things along, and teach anyone who tries to stop us to stay out of our way.

The character was built on a 20-point buy, so needs to be updated slightly (I updated the stats already, just have to change the modifiers in the rest of the sheet), but that's just tweaking a few numbers.

One note: I'll be out of the country from Oct. 20-30, so may not be able to post much, if at all, during that time.

I'd like to apply with this slightly different rogue type. Strangely this is the first rogue to apply if read the applicant list correctly. Comments on the build are welcome from anyone. Note gear is not yet final. I was hoping that he would not have to buy things like food and water and was unsure what supplies the group might be assigned.

Not sure I will have the time to create a submission before the deadline, but I have an idea for a Half-Elf. His human family is obsessed with their supposed Azlanti heritage (that they can't prove) and his elven family is from a line that traces themselves back to being the greatest enemies of the Azlant Empire. This combination has made his upbringing difficult and confusing, but also has made him incredibly interested in Azlant.

Two questions: 1. Is VMC allowed? 2. Would you allow spells to be cast with hands armed with a Cestus? Dual wielding cestus and spell casting Eldritch Scoundrel is the idea here.

VMC is fine - I quite like it myself.

As to the cestus - yes I'll allow, but it will carry a 10% spell failure chance. The item specifically says that precision tasks are difficult and somantic components are very precise.

Terry, an Undine Slayer

Background:
Terry's earliest memories are happy ones of playing. There are not many of those, however. He grew up as a slave in the Chelish capital of Egorian, and bears the tattoos on his arms that still mark him as a Chelish slave. The house slave tasked to raise him was a fading gnome, so once he was old enough to understand he had no doubt that Sharluna was not actually his mother. He was taught to help her clean and keep the house, and did so until they were freed.
While Terry had no idea where he was from or who he should be, his original tribe worked hard to track him and the other children who had been stolen down. They freed all of the slaves when they could free any, but recovered only half of the missing children. As the rescuers torched the Glaubotter estate to cover their retreat, Terry was forced to say goodbye to Sharluna. The seperation was shocking for multiple reasons, not the least of which was having his blue-skinned rescuers dragging him down under the water, and then finding out he could breath water. Yes, he was pretty panicked when he learned that. This is how Terry learned that he isn't human.
For the next few years, Terry (and the other rescued children) tried to learn how to live as Undines. Once he started to fill out, and look like a man instead of a boy, the tribe asked Terry to leverage his human appearance as a trader, working his way into Anuli, a Holomog city near to the tribe's settlement in the Northern Obari ocean. He was responsible to convert the tribe's goods into the various metal objects that are so hard to make underwater, and that last so poorly. Terry fulfilled the role, but hated being given so little input into his own future. Despite being reassured that he had been returned home, Terry still felt very much the slave, doing and being what he was told by people not quite like him, for their benefit and not his own.
As he concluded a trading mission, Terry simply walked away, heading North. A young woman named Ayoo found him and traveled with him for a while, teaching him the basics of her warrior craft and giving him his first real opportunity to take control of his own life. She left him outside Sothis, in Osiria. While exploring the large city, keeping his arms covered at all times, Terry heard of the efforts to establish an exploratory colony on Azlant. This sounded like an opportunity where he would be as free as anyone else present, and he decided to join in. So he went to the Bountiful Venture Company offices in Sothis, and ended up redirected to the Almas main office.

I have not purchased equipment, settled on an alignment (L/C axis will probably be Neutral, I haven't decided if G/E axis should be Neutral or Good, yet), picked a 1st level feat, set up an alias, or formatted the below into a solid character sheet of any style.

Studied Target (Ex): A slayer can study an opponent he can see as a move action. The slayer then gains a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks attempted against that opponent, and a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it. The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1. A slayer can only maintain these bonuses against one opponent at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or the slayer studies a new target.
If a slayer deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action, allowing him to apply his studied target bonuses against that target (including to the normal weapon damage roll).
At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels, the bonuses on weapon attack rolls, damage rolls, and skill checks and to slayer DCs against a studied target increase by 1. In addition, at each such interval, the slayer is able to maintain these bonuses against an additional studied target at the same time. The slayer may discard this connection to a studied target as a free action, allowing him to study another target in its place.
At 7th level, a slayer can study an opponent as a move or swift action.
Track (Ex): A slayer adds 1/2 his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow tracks.

I seem to have been left off of Kevin's list :).

I have a living grimourie insuistior in mind, but it's...

Kinda infeasable as inquisitors don't get the spell waterproof for some reason, and without it the book gets ruined.

I will be submitting Thurio Cervani, Undine Cavalier using the Daring Champion archetype. He will be picking up the Bladed Brush feat at 3 and finesse his glaive.

I still need to work on his expenditure as the Eagle Knight Recruit trait actually fixes several basic needs.

Kinda pointless when the book is also your weapon- any underwater fighting at all and you're useless.

Thinking on a dwarven saltbeard brawler.

Liberty's Edge

Ok, I've set up an amphibious Undine Hydromancer named Catlinye, here for consideration. Backstory is in the profile.
"What do you mean, how to breathe? You just- ah, no, right, you are human. Slipped my mind."

For the book, I seem to remember that magic items aren't easily damaged, and there might be some option to waterproof it in case. Worst comes to pass, you keep a backup until you figure out a way to protect it (also, buying a wand of waterproof might work).

Book Ward would be ideal... if you had a Wizard in the party you would be set.

Kevin O'Rourke 440 wrote:

At a later level, yeah.

But I'm more worried about levels 1 and 2. After that I can work towards making a 2000 gp magic item that's waterproof, immune to erase in most lightings, and has 1000 pages.

From what I understand out of the Player's Guide the party doesn't start getting seriously wet and facing Water issues until at least a few levels into the AP. It gave the impression that Book 1 is more about local colonial threats in the region rather than diving straight into underwater exploration so while a few Waterproof Bags will be always be helpful, @icehawk333 your worries about a soggy underwater book don't seem to be necessary off the hop.

In any case, if I make it in...

I can be your wizard baby, I can keep away the wet...

Paizo Employee Organized Play Line Developer

Waterproof bags can only be completely immersed for 10 rounds before the water gets inside and ruins things anyway.

But yeah, I also recall what Dariim mentioned above. It's not underwater exploration right from the start.

Suppose I misunderstood what I read, then.

Right everyone - the countdown is begun.

Just over 17 hours to go. Anyone who has dotted by then but not posted will have an extra 12hrs to post their characters. I'll use the weekend to decide on characters and get an introductory post up on Sunday or Monday.

Thanks for all the interest so far - it's been really great to see all the good ideas being submitted!

We shall wait with baited breath.

Let us set sails to adventures and spin a tale for generation of bards to sing in their taverns!

Dotting, putting together a Half-Elf Magus (Eldritch Archer).

Rough concept is a rich nobleman's brat who enjoys hunting around the world for sport and then mounting the trophies. Azlant is just another place for him to achieve his conquests (at least until he experiences some character development). Cocky, brash, and wholly unsuited for surviving in the wilderness without help.

Dotting. Finishing up a living grimoure inquisitor.

Here is the character submission for Nathan Goodrich:

Sarine Dulciare

I haven't quite finished all the character details (mostly equipment purchases) yet, but I wanted to make sure I got this in on time.

Thanks everyone, I can confirm that the deadline for dotting is closed. Anyone who has dotted has another 2.5 hrs to finish and submit their characters. Hopefully I will be able to make selections tonight and get started tomorrow! :)

Thanks again for all the interest, it's really humbling to see people getting all excited!

Unfortunately I just don't have the time to finish a character for this game; I've had too much going on this week, and having to reacquaint myself with the game has slowed the process. I'll just have to keep my eyes open for another opportunity.

She wandered the world, finding new things here and there, till one day she came upon a black book, filled with dark secrets of "devine" magic. She took the book to heart and learned all she could. Her ability to handle people waned, and she became more and more ailen over time.

Her book slowly fills with ramblings in alklo as time goes by, and she wanders the world yet more, seeking the whispers of her god's infulence, so she can sap yet more power from the being.

Eventually, she heard of a voyage to a small settlement, and decided that going to a place so far away would be a great way to seek new knowladge, her odd mind believing the whispers of azazatoth to be found far from civilization.

Sorry for this being slightly late.
I haven't gone though and bought some of the basic gear like torches, but the rest should be ready.
