Hey, that magic missile is no joke, and your buffing spells make all of us look better! You definitely are a huge help in a fight.

That's a lot of skill checks I am not trained in... I can certainly make a half decent K Nature unless someone else has many ranks in it. I think we know who's going to clean up on most of these checks... damn librarians.
Sirettis |

She didn't max out Perform for nothin'!
But hey, I get to use K. Nature!
Mr. Peppers |
I don't think we can repeat checks can we? Mr Peppers didn't have much to use trained other than Diplomacy, K Nature, and Perception. I figured many had options for perception and Gallix used Diplomacy so I went with Nature and flubbed the roll.
GM Red |
There's nothing that says two PCs can't use the same skill, so I say yes, you can. I think the spirit of this section is that you're all taking turns convincing one of the two leaders independently of each other (unless you're aiding), so it makes sense that more than one PC can use a skill. The only rule is the 10 checks have to be split as evenly as possible among the 6 of you.
Mr. Peppers |
Ok so still basically only 2 checks and 1 aid roll each. Do we need to attempt all skills here? Guess I'm still a bit foggy on that little bit.
Cup |
You can use whatever skills are best for you! Although Cup loves to aid, I decided it was best if she led her own skill checks here.
Mr. Peppers |
Ok I was under the impression we needed to attempt all 10 of the relavent checks, and that wasn't going to go well... My best choices will be K Nature and Perception and Diplomacy.
Red count his Nature check, its my 2nd highest skill listed so I would have made it for sure. I guess perception will be my next option for these arcane hating hippies!
Sirettis |
Rereading Regenerative Sinew, it's a Major Hex. Which means I can't take it until level 10. Oops. I'll have to fix that
On the plus side, I can use the Healing Hex upon myself, I thought I couldn't. Hooray!
Mr. Peppers |
Mr Peppers has two partial CLW wands that are up for grabs for healing if people needed it before we got to here. Also, Mr Peppers cast resist elements cold on you Sirettis, you have 20 cold res to help vs that blast.
Sir D. Arthraven |
GM Red |
We're done! Rolling for some boons now... 1 or 20 is the magic number..
GM Red: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Cup: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Mr. Peppers: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Sir D. Arthraven: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Sirettis: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Uesugi: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Wow!
Congratulations to Cup, Gallix, and Sirettis! Please roll a d4 to determine which boon you have won.
GM Red |
And on that note, now's the time for Day Job rolls too!
Mr. Peppers |
There needs to be a vanity to let you roll spellcraft for a day job... :P Or Knowledge: Arcana. Who wouldn't pay Mr Peppers for his skills!
Sirettis |
Wow, I won a boon...
1d4 ⇒ 4
As for the day job, I'll forgo it and try to achieve one of my faction goals:
Forgo your Downtime to reinforce your political connections. Doing so requires a successful Knowledge (local) or Knowledge (nobility) check with a DC equal to 15 + your character level.
K Nobility, DC 23: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
Got it! Do you agree, GM?
And now, to fix my hexes.
Mr. Peppers |
Ya time to start leveling up! Level 4 spell(s) here I come.
Did we want to start a conversation on what our next game will be? I mentioned wanting to be able to complete this faction goal to finish off my Season 8 Grand Lodge:
(1/2) Resolve an encounter with an organization led by genies, elemental forces, or those who revere them.
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
Yay! A Boon!
1d4 ⇒ 2
And now to make some drugs money!
Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Cup |
Boon?: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Perform Sing: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33
"So we're no longer in the Special... What do we want to do next?"
Sir D. Arthraven |
3 huh. That's a mighty fine result, thus far you've not rolled 3 together.
Profession covert agent: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
GM Red |
Got it! Do you agree, GM?
Sure do.
Just waiting on Uesugi's roll to finish up the chronicles.
If you won a boon, I will use the e-mail you'd sent me a long time ago when I used to e-mail chronicles. If this isn't current, PM me your new one!
GM Red |
I'm looking to run 8-24 Raid on Cloudborne Keep next. It will allow Mr. Peppers to complete his final faction goal, and it's planar, so I'm sure Cup will be a fan.
Any objections? We won't start immediately, but probably this weekend/next week if that works for everyone.
Scenario synopsis:
A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 5-9.
Followers of the evil elemental lord of air Hshurha have learned of the Pathfinder Society's plans to break open the Untouchable Opal and release Hshurha's ancient rival. One of Hshurha's lieutenants is gathering forces to deal a decisive blow to the Society and its new allies in the Concordance of Elements. If the PCs act quickly, they can make a daring strike, commandeering an airship on the Plane of Air and overtaking their enemy's fortress before it has the chance to rally its army.
I can already picture Sir D lobbing negative energy bolts from the edge of an airship!
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
That sounds pretty awesome! Gallix would definitely be in favor of fighting on behalf of Ranginori again!
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
And Gallix...whipping sling bullets at people? *Sigh* Guess he can't be awesome at everything.
Sirettis |
Clearly I need to buy a scroll of Fly. That's 375 gp.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you... the Incredible Flying Gallix!
Mr. Peppers |
Yup, you melee types gotta invest in stuff to let you fly. Potion of fly is a nice handy dandy 2PP! Or a scroll x2 for 2PP. Maybe even best to have both for times when speed is of the essence.
I wish I could prepare fly on a regular basis, but only 2 3rd level spells a day... and fireball is gonna be one!
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
I'm going to buy boots! Have to go to my money broker and see what is left in the coffers
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
Yeah, I'll have to figure out how I want to get my own access to flight. I really don't want to do boots because I have the feather step slippers right now, which is what lets me 5ft step in difficult terrain and thereby make use of my whole build!
Speaking of which, can one do a 5ft step while flying?
Cup |
Wow, we’re going on an airship? Sign me up!!! I’m a happy gnome!
GM Red |
Yes you can, as long as you have a Fly speed:
You may not take a 5-foot step using a form of movement for which you do not have a listed speed
I know I still owe you guys chronicles and will definitely have them completed and reported today!
GM Red |
At long last, here are your chronicles.
Have a look and bug me about any mistakes!
GM Red |
I have also reported the table. If you won a boon, look for it in your email!
Mr. Peppers |
I finally get home to my beloved PC and all its spreadsheets and glorious games and my motherf##*ing monitor won't turn on!!!! GGGRRRRRR
Stuck on this laptop/tablet thing for now, blargh.

Oh, I wrote the boons for Solstice Scar part B, by the way.
Frozen Fortitude (1 box)
Even the coldest wilderness could not fell you. Now you are prepared to endure freezing attacks or even draw strength from the snow. As a swift action, you can check the box that precedes this boon to gain cold resistance equal to 5 + your character level for 1 minute. You can activate this boon as an immediate action, but doing so grants you only cold resistance equal to your character level. Alternatively, if you have cold resistance as a result of a racial trait or class feature, you can check this box as a swift action to regain a number of hit points equal to your cold resistance; if you are immune to cold, you regain 30 hit points.
Martyr’s Shard 2 (1 box)
The paladin Ivvora wielded a powerful dagger in service to her angelic patron, Vildeis. By helping recover and restore the hilt, you are able to begin imbuing a facsimile of the blade to combat evil on your own terms. If you are a paladin or lawful good character capable of casting divine spells, as a free action you can check the box that precedes this boon to grant one weapon you wield a +1 enhancement bonus that stacks with the weapon’s existing enhancement bonus, if any (but not with similar additional enhancements, such as that granted by a paladin’s divine bond ability), and grant it the ability to overcome damage reduction and regeneration as per a cold iron, good-aligned weapon for 1 minute. Furthermore, you can check the box that precedes this boon to instead cast dispel magic as a spell-like ability using your character level as the spell’s caster level.
Otherwise, as a free action, you can check the box that precedes this boon to grant one weapon you wield a +1 enhancement bonus (which does not stack with other enhancement bonuses) and the ability to overcome damage reduction and regeneration as per a cold iron, good-aligned weapon for 1 minute.
Future Martyr’s Shard boons may unlock additional benefits.
Any character with this boon can purchase an avenging dagger (120,604 gp; functions as a holy avenger but is a dagger rather than a longsword) as though her effective Fame score were 10 higher. If this character has earned two, three, or all four Martyr’s Shard boons, reduce the cost of an avenging dagger to 110,604 gp, 100,604 gp, or 90,604 gp respectively. If you purchase an avenging dagger and later gain additional Martyr’s Shard boons that would reduce the price further, you gain additional gp equal to the difference between the two costs (as though you had purchased the dagger at the lower cost).
Triumph Over Scales: (1 box)
You have braved the Realm of the Mammoth Lords, not only defeating a tribe of kobolds but also slaying their white dragon overlords. You can spend 2 Prestige Points to learn Draconic as a bonus language. In addition, you can check the box that precedes this boon when you threaten a critical hit against a dragon or humanoid with the reptilian subtype to gain a +10 insight bonus on the attack roll to con rm the critical hit. Alternatively, you can check the box when a dragon or humanoid with the reptilian subtype would confirm a critical hit against you in order to gain the benefits of the heavy fortification armor special ability against that attack.
GM Red |
When, as a GM, I killed my first PC ever tonight in Rise of the Runelords, I actually noticed that I was able to capture the attention of some players who were normally not very interested in the game. They couldn't believe I actually did it, and everyone was alive with excitement as the others scrambled to run away from the "goblin god."
The player started working on a new PC immediately, and the team couldn't wait to try their hand at taking that enemy down again.
I have a new appreciation for being a GM who players believe will really kill their characters. If there was a spectrum of GM 'niceness' where TPK is the extreme far end, I've always associated myself with being almost on the opposite side of that spectrum. People are attached to their characters and most get upset when threatened with death. It's felt even more in PbP when games take much longer and so much more effort is spent in defining your character. I don't like upsetting players, but I also don't want to run dragons that die within two rounds. Just some thoughts.
I will probably start 8-24 tomorrow if you guys could finish up your purchases!

By "wrote" I mean I transcribed the boons, not that I'm an author of the module.
I bought a scroll of fly to add it to my spell list.
I also bought a wand of Cure Light Wounds.
----
I squished a pair of 1st level PCs in the Dalsine Affair, against the big bad. He can crit for over 40 damage, so there's not much a level 1 PC can do against that. Luckily the PCs hadn't put much into their character.
In my homebrew game the low con archer decided to go into melee against a div who ambushed him and received two crits for his trouble. Insta killed. We had a private session afterward about his journey through the afterlife and the woman who revived him, so we got a kick out of it.
Later a pair of NPCs were killed as the party kept saving themselves and thinking I'd never kill them because I put so much investment in them. Nope, I let the party drag their corpses to the fairy queen for reincarnation and to a nearby temple for resurrection.
When the PCs know that you can kill them it does add some urgency and it makes their actions more committed.

How did the PC meet their demise?
Intro post for 8-24 up later this afternoon!
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |
Spent some big bucks on Gallix!
+1 enhancement to the adamantine cestus
+1 enhancement to the masterwork buckler
Improved Cloak of Resistance +1 to +2
= Total of 6000gp spent
