So this rwby didn't make her weapon? Well, not a straight up clone then. I always did wonder how she made her own weapon in the show as a kid and acheiving the precision of a rifle and the complexity of mechanical transformation.
:)
Also, what is the connection between icehawk333 and firehawk333? Sounds like sibling pokemon to me but I might be wrong.
:)
On a more serious note,
Hmm, where do I live? I'm thinking a little hut growing somewhere near the outer wall. Anything wrong with that gm?
Lord Foul II |
To be fair, they all had weapons like that, it might just be the tech level that they can assemble them that well, or they might use the setting specific version of magic
And I was just on the phone with the DM and he says a hut just outside the walls is fine (if not a tad conservative)
icehawk333 |
tad conservative?
Depends on what you call a hut. Then again, she's only been here a week, so whatever her eventual plans, she won't have much grown yet.
As for weapon, I don't know yet.
I'm a tad confused what you mean by hut, then.
Morrigan the "Kobald-broker" |
By hut I mean a basic one room dwelling with nothing fancy, though it need not be small. Only had time to grow something basic in a week, the rest of her mansion will come eventually.
As for weapon, I know what I'd like to do if sizable elastics can be found, along with a supply of potion of impact.
Basically a plunger gun. Can shoot bolts, but also other things like potion vials or grenades depending on size. I use this weapon in my own setting except with vials of water and alkali metal made to shatter into shards when it explodes.
Lord Foul II |
Yup, the launching crossbow
Maybe you could have designed a launching Crosbow that's also capable of firing regular bolts.
Maybe even one capable of growing the bolts within the gun like in the goblins comic http://www.goblinscomic.org/05312009/
As a bonus thing, there also exist a halfling sling thrower designed to also throw potions called the flask thrower
and a ring/wrist thing that shoots darts

Worry not about hi tech stuff, unless you consider elastics hi tech (which you shouldn't).
The plunger "gun" is something from the American Boys Handy Book, to be made by kids (though it was a time when kids were often excellent marksmen before 10 years old.) from 4 parts plus bindings. It is basically a tube with a plunger that can move in and out, then the elastics attach to the tube and plunger, and a stock as the final piece. When the plunger is pulled back, the elastics stretch. Drop a ball in the barrel then release the plunger, the elastics pull the plunger through the tube which in turn pushes the ball out. Anything that fits in the tube can be shot out, though generally not as hard as a real gun, but power rivalling a heavy crossbow can be achieved with good elastics.
It is a design simple enough to be made by children, and the power is set by the elastics, so the only restriction on making it is the creation of suitable elastics.
Rubber has been in use for well over 3000 years, (admittedly not in europe though, until columbus), so it can't be considered hi tech.
The power of a plunger gun is highly variable based on the elastics used, but even many weaker elastics can still produce a powerful pull.
However, if elastic power seems unsuitable, you can still put a plunger gun on a crossbow, it'll just be more bulky.
The ammo is the part that may or may not be hi tech. In my setting for example, a common ammo has a chamber of water, a thin separator, and a piece of alkali metal. When it strikes something, the alkali metal pierces the separator, then the metal and water react violently, exploding and sending the outer shell out as shrapnel.
But much simpler ammo is viable, such as potion of impact, alchemists fire, magnesium explosive fluid, etc.
Of course, darts, rocks, sling bullets, and actual potions or similar are usable as well.

Reaplings generally grow their buildings, though not always (walls and defensive emplacements are mixed constructions for example).
I could just buy a house if you really want, but I don't think it is as flavorful.
I mean, what do they grow it out of?
Also, yeah, the "gun" works fine. Sorry I misunderstood.
Morrigan the "Kobald-broker" |
"I mean, what do they grow it out of?"
>Similar to new reaplings but more versatile and like a plant is mindless. So usually the core structure is often metal, but wood can be used as well, then a netting or loose cloth is placed where walls are desired. Occasionally, bushes will be weaved into shape instead. Then black blood is used on the pieces and those pieces transform and grow more sturdy. Then additional sections can be attached to encourage growth over new sections.
Inside hooks, crannies, or shelves can be grown by cutting down under the skin and stretching outward. Over time, support grows outward to fill under the skin.
Thus the original structure can be weak but will become strong. The structure does root like a plant or fungus, threading through the ground to absorb water and material, though it consumes only to grow or heal.
It ends up looking like reapling hide streched over ribs. It is dry though so not as creepy as zerg buildings. The roots are silvery but look like mycelium.
"Also, yeah, the "gun" works fine. Sorry I misunderstood."
It's okay. Sadly, most have no idea about plunger guns, or even spring shotguns (whalebone with a cup on the end. Fill with birdshot, pull back and let fly. Reportedly can hit a range several housing lots long).

Looks like it.
Anthony is helping out with the town guard and going holy artifact hunting
La'Vassa is trying to gain wisdom, wrestling people and monsters for practice, and furthering her relationships
Morrigan is going hunting for a ranged weapon (not sure if this is all, maybe she wants a magic one)
Ruby is learning how to sew and becoming a combat expert (via training the feat)

Morrigan gathers supplies for making her weapon and commisions a craftsman to build it according to her design. She also finds a good supplier for ammo types, vials of whatever might hurt, especially big hurts like impact potions or similar, but lesser ones like acid and alchemist's fire will at least be noted.
She also works on setting up a work station for crafting spellcards (basically, once per day cast a spell effect magic items, real simple basic stuff according to item creation rules), among other things.
When not busy with serious things, she spends a fair bit of time in the gardens, mostly because she likes plants and such, and when available she'll find out from the garden's caretakers about the local plants.
icehawk, we should probably discuss what kind of things to make, as my original idea was to really build on reapling items, which while based on magic get fairly advanced (such as using illusions to make video and audio playback, automapper, communication items, etc.).

Send me what you want, and I'll see what I can do.
Rememebr, anything that relies on radio waves will not work at all, thanks to continuous disruption by the pulsar star you orbit.
Besides that, if it's magic based and replicates a spell, I won't have issues with it most of the time.
Programmed illusion is already a thing, for video and audio
Automapper, less sure about, depending on what you mean. If it means mapping places you've been, totally fine. If it means mapping automatically in a certain radius around you, doable, but would require good divinations.

Since someone was asking, the list of special downtime actions at the moment are-
Morrigan - befriend chalk
La-vassa - befriend (redacted)
Antony - nothing, yet
Ellen - research primal beasts (not a reserved action, but has different results when attempted by other charecters)
Ruby- not sure yet. Hit me up with a pm if you wanna talk about that.
