Lots of unexpected work. In fact, I have another 50 hours yet to work at one job this week, plus another dozen at the other, so I might be posting a little slow this week. Oh yeah, plus a good 10 hours travel time. Busy.
This is what happens when people can't do their job and get fired for it, the rest of us have to pull the slack.

Aren't we part of the city guard?
I was asking for the purpose of the spell "blessing of the watch"
Trying to decide if I want to prepare that spell.
Remember, you had no idea this was coming in charecter.
But besides that, it's defiantly close enough for a spell like that to work.
I wasn't sure what you were asking, so I was answering the question "do any guards patrol the area on a regular basis?"
And the answer to that is no.

"It's a plains that is barely within sight from the top of the city walls."
AKA, the local hinterlands.
:)I'll update that soon. Maybe tomorrow though. Not feeling well today. At the tail end of a 16 hour shift doesn't help.
Good lord, I can barely stay concious for an 11 hour shift, let alone 16.
I don't blame you.

Given I'm on the guard (I think) this would be one of the two spells I'd prepare basically every day unless I knew I'd be going outside the city at the start of the day.
In that case it'd be replaced with magic weapon.
Regarding shift size my largest shift size is a 12 hour and we get that for a little less than a quarter of the year and it's hell so much sympathys there

i haven't got a permanent job yet, but i have tried to stay up for two day before, note tried i got to 13 hours sitting around playing video games. cant even began to understand what it would be like after 16 let alone after working. i usually got to sleep after a 6 hour work shift.

I seriously have been looking for my paper char sheet, but it seems to have flown the wind, of course I haven't had much time either. This week should see me with more time though. 3 days off unless someone calls in, of course that means my mother will have me working around the house.
Of course, back to 8 hour shifts this week even if I do get called in. so good times.

Yeah. I fell asleep briefly at the wheel apparently and another car was close to mine but looked much closer to my barely awake mind and so I swerved out of the way and then accidently floored the gass instead of the break and went off road
Messed up the transmission going over the curb and popped a tire.
Also had to go through a thorn bush and apparently poison ivy (because of course it couldn't be just one or the other)

Hmm, somehow I missed the update.
I think however the problem is leaving a situation where the players have to be proactive instead of reactive. A particular weakness of mine anyway, I'm finding it has especially bad results on pbp. At the table, silence gets awkward and something will get said, even if just ooc, but on pbp, it is easy to not say something if you have nothing to say. This is why I prefer running pbp with lots of players, more things to react to and thus less likely die, amd the gm has plenty of time to sort through all the players making it easier to run a bunch of folks.
I missed the update, but still, it puts me in a spot of "what happens next?" I have a canvas with just a line and now I need to put something on it, preferably some more than "I swing my sword." A line is not much for inspiring action.
I constantly have this issue as a gm as well.

I think it is mostly lack of things to respond to. That is why I reccomend lots of players. More likely for someone to respond, and more for people to respond to.
At the table, an awkward silence begs to be filled, but that doesn't happen on pbp, so players are far more likely to not have something to say and far less awkwardness to prompt them.
Most players are reactive, so you need to either be a very proactive gm, or have lots of folks so they will bounce on each other's posts. Aka, don't wait for a reaction to a passive description, nor open ended/implied questions, instead, explicitly ask for specific info and provide lots of material for us to respond to (lots of players add that extra material with little work on your part, and keeping a large group sorted is easier on pbp).
