Jenya P. |

Huh, Hunter actually recruited me into the game via a recruitment thread and now he's gone. So.... I guess I better introduce myself.
Hey everybody! I'm Jenya! A bit lost as I've never played KingMaker before :). Her background's in the profile... I think I should read the Player's Guide ASAP.
I think CWE is going to get some more people into Antlers to build it out again.

Chief White Eagle |

well I will need one more for team antlers will re-open a recuitment I guess.
we just got 1 more so a 4th is probably in order.
I know a few players I can send PM's out to see if any are interested.

Hunter Deadeye |

I do not know where this is coming from. I promise I did not pm anyone with bad stuff. I would not do that. Which the DM makes it sound like I did.

Anton Medvyed |

With some newcomers and some departures, we will need to start thinking about the kingdom positions again.
But maybe it's better to do this when we all meet together IC at the Staglord Fort.

A reminder that tomorrow the 21st of June is free RPG day.If you are lucky enough to have participating retailer near you be sure to visit them

I fear I may have delayed this moment too long, and thus lost some of our compatriots to the creeping malaise that infects all play by posts.
We have reached the end of the first book, those still in the field need not worry as there is more than enough time 'in game' for them to complete their explorations and then join their fellows at Stag Fort to aid in the formation of your goverment.
This discussion has raised it's head before and now the time has come to have it again.
We can do as much or as little role playing as you like but in short I need to know the name of your kingdom, it's alignment and eventually we'll have to come to a final agreement on all of your roles within the government. All I actually need to be involved in when it comes to your kingdom management is the when the potential for events rises.
Here is a list of resources that I had posted previously. I am not the kind of gm to keep everything behind the screen, so I invite you to inform yourselves to whatever degree you find interesting.
So I'm going to give you guys the tools you need to do this work on your own. Some of these resources contain spoilers but I'm not worried about that. I know that some of you have experience with this adventure path, and we're all adults, if anyone really wanted to get access to the mod they could.
A tool for building maps of your cities.
If you really want to turn your kingdom from a toaster to an oven.
Again I fear that we might have lost many on our long march to this point, as such I just want to clarify who is still here and who has left us, for the time being. I suspect there will have to be at least some juggling of the parties in order to maintain viable numbers.
Those whom I currently believe to be active:
Agrona
Anton
Etienne
Miyuki
Sebastian
Carter
White Eagle
Jenya
Kyras
Raven
Gareth
Lorald
Marlani
Natalya
Zartana
Those whom I fear have fallen into inactivity:
Aran
Josef
Valkus
Alexio
Kazz
If for whatever, reason you see your name on the wrong list or do not see your name at all, please tell me I would be glad to fix the error.
As we approach our four month anniversary in just a few days I want to thank you all for the enormous enjoyment you have given me all in these past months.

Anton Medvyed |

Thank you GM for reminding us about this important matter.
Despite that disappearance of few PCs we have a lot of roles to cover, but still more PC (& players) than leadership roles, so I'm reviving the idea of a Ruling Council of 3 to 5 PC that we discussed previously.
Also I'll be good to have all the players (old and new) said what role did they think their PC want to cover (if any).
About Anton I'll re-propose his candidacy as High Priest as first choice, or as Councilor as second choice.

Carter Ma'Anubis |

I think if Carter will fit anywhere it'd be the royal enforcer.
I'm not sure if I can see him doing that. I think I can.
I was trying to stay away from the scary vivisectionist that tortures people. :/
But he would still be best there.
Otherwise, he'd just be a head of the hospital, I suppose.

Jenya P. |

Considering the number of decisions we have to make do we go for a simple democracy for big decisions even for PCs without positions?
Marshal or SpyMaster would fit Jenya's Dexterity Bonus if needed. But she'll probably prefer to adventure and explore for now, help claim hexes or scout or hunt monsters as required.
Are there ways for different groups to communicate with each other? That seems important in a game like this.

Natalya Artemisa |

I agree with Marlani, thanks for bringing this up again Mardavig, well timed :)
Also I believe Anton's original idea to have a ruling council still fits very well with the theme of the campaign, a true democracy waiting on everyone to vote would be very slow to decide anything (especially in PbP!)
Natalya would like a position on the ruling council or else as warden.
Here is the list of positions with accommodations made for absentee characters
Ruling council (CHA to Economy, Loyalty or Stability) - Marlani(1), Miyuki, Natalya(1)
Councillor (CHA or WIS to Loyalty) - CWE, Anton(2), Marlani(3)
General (CHA or STR to Stability) - Lorald
Grand Diplomat (CHA or INT to Stability) - Marlani(2)
High Priest (CHA or WIS to Stability) - Anton(1)
Magister (CHA or INT to Economy) -
Marshal (DEX or WIS to Economy) - Jenya
Royal Enforcer (DEX or STR to Loyalty) - Carter
Spymaster (DEX or INT to any one kingdom attribute) - Zartana, Jenya
Treasurer (INT or WIS to Economy) -
Warden (CON or STR to Loyalty) - Natalya(2)
No preference yet given - Agrona, Etienne, Kyras
Player created positions:
Swordmaster/Duelling Guild - Gareth
Temple (Queen of Ravens) - Raven
? - Sebastian
Jenya, we'll be adventuring as well as responsible for the above roles, so have included you above :)

Matsu Miyuki |

Thank you Marlani. And the point with democracy is well put. The idea of waiting for 20 people to speak is a tad ,,,, taxing.
Miyuki would still apply for the rulership position, or diplomat.
Also, I would like to add that especially the rulers should be able to post regulary. While I will have a bit of offtime end of July, my little Feli will be born, I have ample time at work, and I hope those that apply for leadership positions can say the same.
It is a great experiment, with loads of great people and great moments, and I would hate to loose all to inactivity.

Lorald Orlovsky |

Just checking in.
Concerning the positions, going off fluff I think Lorald would be a good fit for general, sadly his stats make him more inclined for Marshal which is his second choice. So leaving that out there, don't know if everyone prefers fluff or crunch concerning the positions. Also while he is not interested in other positions he is interested in the people taking them. So expect some reaction from him IC for everyone. ;)
As far as ruling I prefer a council. Last I checked we were good on having a representative from each team have a seat on the council. Is that still the set up or are we changing.
P.S. How many teams do we have now?

Gareth de Lockhart |

Gareth might be interested in taking on the magister role, after all. Since there are no other arcane characters in our party, he will have to take on more of that roll for the team. As this progresses, he will probably come to see himself as more of a caster than he had originally intended.
Also, Mardavig, let me add myself to those who are grateful to your for running this game. I have been having fun.

Carter Ma'Anubis |

I am also Arcane. The magister role was one I had considered for him, as he has a high int for the role.
Plus the focus on intelligence over scariness helps.
I can see him as the awkward teacher more than the intimidating scary guy he's needed to be in that role.
I'm sure there are better people for the royal enforcer.
Perhaps we could both fill the magister role?
One for battle magic for the town guard and one for magic study for the sake of study.
Mitsuki, just noticed that you said you were expecting. Congratulations. ^_^

Zartana |

If we think of having reps from each team:
Council, but only for important matters
Main focus: Spy Master
Zartana has a high dex and fits well with spy stuff. =^^=
And grats on the news. Hope little one brings great joy.

Chief White Eagle |

i am still good with the Councillor position, of course a member of the ruling council might not be so bad.
in any event we will need to decide these things. I started messing with the kingdom maker in Hero lab.

Anton Medvyed |

If I'm not mistaken, we have 4 teams for now. One of 2 PCs (Darkness), two of 4 PCs(Orlovsky, former Antlers), one of 5 (Fox's Antlers). I'm counting only the active PCs, but still hoping the others who are MIA will come back.
I'll avoid banding the teams with the leadership positions.
I view the multiple teams as something temporary to do some specific task (ie. exploration, mission in this place, stop the bandit in this hexes... etc). For this reason, in the future of the campaign, probably a lot of teams will change their composition to accomplish specific mission in the name of the entire Kingdom.
The ruling council propose I made is to have a mix between a "true democracy" (something not really possible in a PBP) and a "dictatorship" (only one PC or a married couple rules).
As Miyuki said, it's important to have people posting regularly in key leadership positions. So all the other PCs not have to wait too long.

Valkus Lebeda |

Whoa, still here. Admittedly my activity has been lower than usual for awhile, something I'm trying to rectify, but I'm still interested. That may put me out of the running for some things, and I accept that. That said, the posting frequency should only matter if we intend to dedicate lots of time to kingdom activities outside of regular adventuring. I'm personally all for that, but it's something to keep in mind.
Valkus would be interested in the Ruling Council, Spymaster, and Grand Diplomat positions, with particular interest in Spymaster. Technically, he'd be competent in anything requiring CHA, INT or DEX. There's also no reason we can't have two or three people for some jobs; switch off making the main checks monthly, but we'd each be involved to some degree or another with the jobs. For example, Valkus handling and managing the spy network while Zartana is out in the field, Miyuki and Natalya pick up the slack for the kingdom duties while Marlani is in Brevoy negotiating treaties, etc. Or maybe that's just a huge pain in the butt and we stick to one person, one position. Food for thought.
Congratulations to Miyuki!

Matsu Miyuki |

I think your point about sharing the job has some Merit Valkus. Most Positions have a Viceposition. Hell, for Spymaster one is responsible for foreign security the other for interior security. Or the one is for Humint, the other for operating the black beaurau. Military one is field command, the other Strategic command. To add some spices to the food.

Zartana |

I already spoke about what Zartana will do in this position with the GM. And other areas I dont mind being filled by someone else

Jenya P. |

The question of alignment and kingdom name are simpler and maybe more immediate than the government positions. I think we should vote on those things in this thread and then roleplay coming to those decisions IC.
I would vote Neutral for (Law/Chaos)
and Good for (Good/Evil)
Kingdom name: No good ideas from me :)

Gareth de Lockhart |

I think the name should reflect the fact that this land was recovered on behalf of Brevoy and is not held by it. The word "hold" is often attached to countries in game worlds. "Brev-hold" perhaps?
Or we could consider the fact that the expedition to reclaim it took considerable travel and include the word "march" in the name. "Bre-march" anyone, or "Freedmarch" to reflect that we freed this land?
County, barony and duchy seem inappropriate since we don't have a true title holder of any sort to head the state.

Anton Medvyed |

I was thinking the same thing about religions.
If possible we should stay within one step of gods's alignments, along either the law/chaos axis or the good/evil axis...
Erastil and Iomedae are both Lawful Good, Pharasma is True Neutral, so IMHO both LN or NG could both work.
LN means we put more effort in all legal aspects of the society, a very rigid society.
NG means our effort is more to the good side, so the laws of the future kingdom will be more characterized with an aspect of taking caring of peaople in needing, and so on.
Anton being NG himself would prefer this second option.

Anton Medvyed |

About the Kingdom Name:
This part of the Stolen Lands is called the Green Belt, and historically "March" or "Mark" is used for marking the border district.
Since we are from the Brevoy's point of view one of the border district with the River Kindgoms (or from the River Kingdoms point's, we are the border with Brevoy), something like Greenmarch, Greenmark, Beltmarch or Beltmark could work for me.

Anton Medvyed |

Jenya is pretty dedicated to Desna, who is Chaotic Good, and is Neutral Good herself.
I was considering only the "churches" officially involved in the expedition, nothing personal but if we are going to consider all the PCs personal faith, there should not be a way to conciliate kingdom and gods alignments.
In any case, Desna would fit a NG kingdom too.

Jenya P. |

Is this your first one Miyuki?
I'll propose Emermark as it kind of sounds like Emerald and sounds more 'country-like' to my ear.
Question for Mardavig. Where are we getting our initial funding from? I'm guessing we'd get that right at the start of Book Two.

Carter Ma'Anubis |

I second this name.
And as far as Faith goes, while he's not legally in the rules, a divine casting class, Carter's fluff says his powers are from his faith's version of Pharasma.

Matsu Miyuki |

It is my first, my wives second. Emermark sounds good, and we can name our citys as we like.
Also this is a very good point who is funding us. How much does he want as influence. For example a democratic halfling barony funded by cheliax sounds... wrong. I know Brevoy is not cheliax, but do we get our money from the crown, the faith, the swordslords?

Gareth de Lockhart |

Emermark sounds good to me. It reminds me of the Pomarj in the Greyhawk setting. It started out as "Poor March" and contracted from there.

Zartana |

I like neutral. LN is fine
I suggest Freewater. Especially if the fort becomes seat of power. We went through a lot to get this fort. :P

Valkus Lebeda |

For the most part, we've come up with some pretty bland, descriptive names. This is how you end up with names like Westmarch and Denmark. I like the move toward green, but descriptors like Emerald seem better for colloquial names and landmarks rather than formal names of nations. For example, Ireland, also known as the Emerald Isle. Emerald Isle is a great nickname, but perhaps a bit too flamboyant for day-to-day use.
The name is a good way to establish what we stand for if we want to go the descriptive route. The People's Republic of Freehold or something like that could work. Or we could make up proper noun, like Pitax. We've got fantasy languages to play with, we could make up a translation for something like Carter did. I'm not terribly a fan of Pastamnorog, personally, but I like that line of thinking.
Animals or items could help with theme names. Lions, ravens, dragons. Ravenwood? Swordhaven? We could take existing placenames and modify them. New Rostland might send too much of a political statement, given that I think we're playing down our Swordlord sympathies.
We should save the really flamboyant stuff for cities or personal territories. The Aerie is a great name for a keep, but Westeros is better for the country.

Kyras LeBlanc |

Sorry, for some reason the page hasn't updated this...extensive...discussion.
NG aligned has my vote.
Kyras' personality would put him more towards a diplomat.
CHA & linguistics & travels.
