Ryvin may be a warrior, but she does have a vested interest in healing the injured and afflicted. She studied Heal the mind out of compassion with those afflicted with insanity, and she snapped up Major healing as soon as it became available to her.
The Restoration weave could be based off of those; a weave that restores damage caused by corruption of the proper state of being.

I think what i will do is remove the two feats i created, and replace them with the below
I have said in the past that I am cool with people doing experimentation in regards to casting weaves and creating new weaves. Up until this time, no one has shown an interest in creating new weaves, aside from tweaking what is original, Ie a harden air to have a certain color.
But, when i look into this, and debate upon it, there has to be two criteria met before the person can begin to create a new weave.
1) can they cast said weave?
2) does their background allow for them to create said weave.
now the first option is straight forward, to an extent. Can they cast the weave that they are trying to make. I am going to pick on Rhoekk for my examples, because DM.
Let's say that rhoekk is trapped in a cell and wants to get out, but he cannot reach the keys nor the keyhole on the door from the outside. He is out of all channeling except for a single 0 level slot. And let's say that Rhoekk knows Arms of Air. He is in his cell, and 15 feet away is the keys to his cell, sitting on a ledge. Now, Rhoekk knows he could use arms of air to bring the keys towards him, but that is about it. He could be with the keys but unable to access the keyhole as it is on the outside of his cell. His arms are unable to reach the keyhole. so what could he do?
perhaps he could create a new weave that would allow him to manipulate light tools and hand objects. Basically, he wants to create the spell Mage Hand from pathfinder. since he is able to cast a 0 level weave, and since mage hand is a 0 level spell, this is an appropriate idea to make.
Now granted i am just using the mage hand spell as a reference, becuase it is easy to draw similarities and what not.
Now, next is the background. this one is more difficult to account for. I take my inspiration for this from multiple sources in the WOT books. Rand making his skimmer in The Shadow Rising, Nynaeve healing Sever, comments made about a person having the desire to make massive gateways and the first time they make one it is massive, whereas someone doubting themselves makes smaller gateways.
Now, wilders have the innate ability to try out new things, new weaves, because they kind of "figure it out" as they go, as they are shown in their cross-talent rule for their class.
With Initiates, be it Aes Sedai, Wise One, Sea people, Kin, Asha'man, etc, you have a structure to your learning. "do it this way". there are plenty of warnings to prevent experimentation.
so, based on background, this causes some concern over the person's ability to create a new weave, and their willingness to do so.
so, time for numbers
composure check DC 30+level of weave intended. (theoretically, you could make a level 12 weave)
Must have Talent for intented weave
Must have all abilities
ie if its mage hand, that would be Air. If you want power word kill, a 9th level spell from pathfinder, then i would say it would require all abilities and the Healing talent.
What happens if you miss the target number? you suffer from the overchanel rules, but with some modifications.
If you are attempting to create a level 0 weave, and if you fail, you suffer a headache that imposes a -4 to casting abilities for 24 hours.
if you are attempting to create a level 1-3 weave, and if you fail, you must make a fort save dc 15+weave level attempted.
if you are attempting to create a level 4-6 weave, and if you fail, you must make a fort save dc 25+weave level attempted.
if you are attempting to create a level 7-9 weave, and if you fail, you must make a fort save dc 35+weave level attempted.
if you are attempting to create a level 10-12 weave, and if you fail, you are stilled. period.
Rolling a 1 is auto-failure on this skill check.
If you have any sort of training with Aes Sedai, wise ones, sea folk, Asha'man, Kin, etc, and you are a wilder, there is a 50% chance that you will suffer from a -10 skill check penalty towards creating new weaves. The training and cautionary tales permeates your thoughts and you question your ability to make a new weave.
If you are an iniate without wilder levels, then you suffer -10 on composure checks towards making new weaves.

MisterLurch |

That seems pretty reasonable, except for one thing:
The -10 for composure should not apply to the Asha'man or to their initiates. There are many references to them actually being encouraged/required to experiment, being forced, being very nihilistic, etc. I do not think that they would feel restrained by cautionary tales, and I doubt their training would encourage them to be overly cautious.
As an example drawn from the books of Asha'man inventing, there is the unique weave (which is never clearly discussed iirc) that Damer Flynn used to turn the two evils in Rand's wound back in on each other. He could not have used that weave on anyone else before then given the unique nature of the wound, and he certainly gave no sign of being reluctant or hesitant because of his training.
To even things out between male and female channelers, having levels of Wilder should also remove the penalty to experimentation.

Storyteller Shadow |

Alright, I am finally moved in and mostly up and running, time to catch up on my threads...

RIZZENMAGNUS |

a good example. i dont think its enough to ovverride the -10 to iniates.
Yes, at the very start of the black tower, the training was to use the One power all the time. but that was to get them as strong as possible as fast as possible. Experimentation could have happened at the start as well, but soon enough would be replaced with regimented training. See the battle of Dumai wells. All of them knew the rolling earth maneuver. I am sure that it was one who invented it, and then showed it to the others.
Now, if it was a true wilder, one who never went to any of the mentioned guilds, then they wouldnt suffer from the warning.
that said, i could make a feat that says that you are reckless and rebellious with your one power training, pushing the limits of your abilities and your instructors paitence. and the benefit is the removal of the -10. (I could see ryvin taking this one)

MisterLurch |

As you will.
That penalty fits the training of the White Tower perfectly; in the books the Aes Sedai are always cautioning their initiates specifically not to experiment. But it still seems that the idea of being so cautious about experimentation that you have a -10 penalty to doing so does not fit the way the Asha'man and the Black Tower are presented.
The Black Tower is always presented as being almost callous about the potential risks of experimentation and forcing.
Sure, they share and teach what they learn, and they train to work together like any disciplined soldiers would. But that is a long way from training their initiates to be so cautious in using the One Power that they suffer such a large penalty for experimenting.

Ryvin Altessar |

Ehem. Composure is no longer a class skill for Wilders... might we make Weavesight or another skill the critical factor in weave creation?

Rhoekk of the Tardaad Aiel |

Will check in ASAP. Bit of a rush at work last few days, coupled with being told I need to hand-make two Halloween costumes with a day's notice. I did the custom costume thing last year and spent about a month making a Hiccup costume (how to train your dragon 2). The costume turned out awesome, but my son wore it literally once. Decided then that I would buy a costume this year. Apparently I was wrong...

Storyteller Shadow |

I run a V20 Dark Ages game here on the Boards. I am looking for a player to fill the 13th character spot, Clan Nosferatu. Anyone interested? I know at least one player from this game is already in that game :-)

Storyteller Shadow |

My Campaign Tab has a number of the rules listed but not character creation rules which are relatively simple and easy enough to explain in a post.
Give it some thought and if you are interested go ahead and PM me.

Storyteller Shadow |

Not if nosferatu is required. Don't like them.
Yes the other 12 Clans are already represented. The Nosferatu seem to get little love despite the fact that they are one of my favorite Clans.

Storyteller Shadow |

Nosferatu are traditionally monstrous right?
Correct, think Nosferatu from the classic movie to get a sense of what they look like, if not worse. Personality wise they need not be monsters, that is of course up to the Player to decide.

Rhoekk of the Tardaad Aiel |

Well, jow did it turn out?
My son wanted to be Yoshi (from Super Mario) right up until a week from Halloween. I had planned out the costume in my head, but luckily I hadn't started work on it yet, and a green hoodie that fits him will get used anyway. Then, suddenly, he changed his mind and decided to be a bat. He was doing some sort of lesson on animals in his Grade 1 class and decided a bat would be way cooler. I made him a rather modest bat costume, but he loved it. Personally I didn't think it was very good work, but he refuses to let me take it apart (I used one of his shirts for the base, and apparently he doesn't want the shirt back, since he'd lose his bat-wings if he did).
My daughter stuck with her Super Mario inspiration and wanted to be Princess Peach. Pink frilly dresses are easy to come by, broach made from modelling clay, painted and glazed was easy, but when making the crown I gave myself a nasty burn on my thumb. Was working late in the night while very tired. The foam started to curl up just after I applied the hot glue. Without thinking I grabbed it to roll it back down, getting a big gob of very hot glue right in the center of the pad of my left thumb. By the time I got the glue off it was already blistering under the heat. Turned out to be a 2nd degree burn (though luckily not 3rd), and was only about 1 cm square. Hurt like hell though (the way small injuries hurt disproportionately intensely), and the big watery blister got in the way of anything I tried to do with that hand (you're not supposed to drain them). Anyway, liquid in the blister is gone now, though I still have no feeling on the pad of the thumb, I am expecting it will come back at some point.
Worst part was, that while she loved the costume, she didn't get to go out trick or treating, as Halloween evening we went to a friend's for a party before hand. She slipped on a smooth hardwood floor and punched a tooth right through her front lip (lip piercing style). She spent the evening in the ER awaiting stitches. She came through it like a champ though (she's 3) and seemed to enjoy the night over all though.

Storyteller Shadow |

That's too bad Rhoekk, never fun to be in the ER with little ones especially on Halloween of all days!
Sure Rizzen, I have had no takers yet!
The link to the thread is above.

RIZZENMAGNUS |

found it
Warder:
+2 enhancement bonus to Strength (Stronger)
+1 hp per level (stacks with toughness) (Tougher)
+5' bonus to speed (Faster)
+2 to all saving throws against weaves and abilities of shadowspawn and darkfriends. (Darkfriend is defined as someone who has sworn oaths to the Dark One)

Keelix Andren |

Best of Luck Rizzen!
In other news, now whenever someone says "I have toh" the owner of that weapon can say, "No! I have Toh."

Vala " the Swan" |

Man so want to get back to the group...and get out to kill this woman. Kudos Rizzen for the whole scenario I am in, I have enjoyed it way to much! Seriously getting to delve deep and give purpose for her!

Ryvin Altessar |

Son of a duck...
I hadn't been reading the Tar Valon side of things to stay uninfluenced. This is... this is well-played but bodes serious ill for us all.

Analin Mendiana |

The problem is that if you're playing where a nat 20 always hits, enough mobs swarming somebody like Chen will eventually bring him down by sheer weight of numbers. If you've got 100 level 1 guards with bows shooting down into a courtyard at him, the averages say that's 5 natural hits per round for average 20 hp per round. Chen's dead in less than a minute in that scenario.
Of course, if he's just rampaging down a corridor and meeting Warders and younglings in small groups he'll be a bull in a china shop.
This will be interesting to watch, regardless of the final result.

Chen Armand |

As a player I am so upset at whoever fake Litheen is for compelling Chen to do this.
Side note, I have decided to start spoilering my posts due to their graphically violent nature.
I'm also interested in what Vala will do in my wake. Or what will happen when all of you arrive.

Storyteller Shadow |

I will be away from January 1 to January 6. Will check in as I am able but likely I will be unable to post anything significant until my return.
