Discussion thread for The Dire GM's Honor's Echo PbP!
My "Table Rules" -
0 - RL > Game. No other rules trump rule 0.
1 - I'd like it if everyone posted once a day Mon-Fri. Friday night through Sunday night is eh-whatever (I am in US Eastern Time, for reference). I'll try to post when I can over weekends, but I know people have lives and won't always be online, so no worries.
2 - If you don't post in the middle of an "action" scene for a day, you get skipped once (or botted if your action would be super obvious or you leave a note to me or another player "proxying" your character). If you don't post a second time, you get "botted" by me to do something simple (usually just attack or aid another). If we get into the 3-5 range, I'll probably drop you a line off-list to see what's up. If it goes on too long...well, I hate dropping people from games, but it unfortunately happens :(
3 - When you've got a saving throw to make, roll that first before posting anything else.
4 - Feel free to roll perception and sense motive whenever you want, and if you have a reroll, feel free to use that anytime as well.
5 - Have fun! Rule 5 trumps all other rules! :D

"Vili! Thank you! I owe you my life. After all this is over you can copy whatever you like out of my formula book, at my expense!"
If anything in my book works for you I will happily share it as we make our way to the next quest. Similarly Ayri, I would like to trade with you, but didn't see your book on the profile.
Wilen Proudbrew |
FYI, I will be away from computers for most of the day Saturday (US/Pacific time). Will be able to catch up late that evening.
The Dire GM |
I forgot to mention that Monday is our local PFS night, and with the weather, it was a bit of an odd one so I was out and about much later than usual tonight. Sorry about that! Will post momentarily!
Galdur XXII 'Fichead sadhà' |
In the surprise round, the two younger ratfolk move into position next to Hullric while the one bearing odds and ends (teal) takes a five foot step in front of Galdur to stab at him![dice=Stab]1d20 + 6
[dice=Damage]1d3 + 1d6 (+Sneak Attack)
(Galdur, please make sure you have your character's hit points posted...in fact, there are several things you should probably update on your character before your turn in the initiative order, if you could - thanks!)
Ouch!
This should now be updated. If I missed anything that should be visible with a post, please let me know. Please note three mistakes I made earlier. 1) Galdur is not proficient in handaxes, only battle axes, so melee has been changed. 2) AC is 15 not 16 with mage armor (had more Dex in earlier version). 3) I forgot to prepare a bonus spell for my Intelligence, so added that (summon monster I). If you wish to keep any changes until after the adventure (or at least post-combat) no problem. :)
I also made the mistake in that wizards can trade a racial bonus language for draconic. However I am not going to change what I chose from before. oops... Languages not yet added... I better remember that.
Finally I added the 7 spells from Ayri to my spell-book. A single 8-hour day should be enough time to learn & copy all of those, and since we had more than that, I hope that is OK. When taking 10 on spellcraft I reach 16, which is the necessary DC to learn a level 1 spell, but I can roll if you prefer. :)

With sufficient time that seems right to me. The only thing to account for is the transcription cost, which is 10gp per 1st-level spell (which is why I'm going to have to wait until these characters get paid).

Under gear I have listed: spells (70 gp). I had only purchased an axe and Pathfinders kit previously. :)

Ayri will also need to wait for the adventure to yield some dough before transcribing any more than one spell. Likewise, she can Take 10 to transcribe anything she finds in Galdur's book.
Galdur has mindlink which I'm not certain she'll pick up, but I did want to mention that it didn't have the '*' next to it denoting it as one of his opposition school spells. Ayri has a lot of divination spells because she has class feature that allows her to spontaneously cast them from her spellbook as a full-round action.

No worries - especially once you get up to a bunch of characters, keeping on top of everything can get rough (I just registered my -43, so I'm right there with ya)!
Look for an update from me in the gameplay thread in the very near future! :)
Wilen Proudbrew |
Just a heads up, I'm going to be away on a camping trip next weekend. So I'll be away from computers and probably with a bad phone signal all day Feb 10 & 11, US/Pacific time. I will likely be able to catch up late on the 11th.

43. I remember my 43rd character. She's a plucky CORE pirate parkour girl, named Colleen. *Waves at Hullric's alter ego, Hudor. You can't hide behind that mask!* Good times. ;)

Hah, my -43 is also a pirate. My first foray into the Vigilante class. Enso Ramsey in public...but also... "I am the son of the storm...I am...El Nino!

My -2 is also a pirate!
Well, the child of pirates.
Or rather, the child of reformed pirates.
Who gave up being reformed and dropped their child off at the Grand Lodge and went back to being pirates.
My -1 just finished Eyes of the Ten this summer (hence his nephew my -8). The sad thing is, that his first chronicle is from June 2011. It took me 7 years to level to retirement.
I have a little bit of envy at your -43, not because you have that many characters, but because you get to play that often. :)
Ayri Fukai-Sagashi |
It allows me to avoid responsibility. ;)
We'll need to throw together a PFS pirate scenario mini-AP.
The Dire GM |
Given that at least a fourth of my PFS characters are pirates (or pirate-adjacent), I would be down for this.
In fact, once upon a time, I even came up with a Pirate-themed "PFS AP" of sorts.
NECUAMETL COATL |
sorry for my absence been going through a traumatic life event. We are working past it now. Ill try to be more involved for the rest of the game. Sorry again if i took a bit of fun away from anyone.

RL > Game is "Rule 0" for me - NO worries here.
I will never penalize somebody at a game for stuff going on in real life. I hope everything is working out okay, and please let me know if there's anything I can do to help on this end!
Hullric Torsol |
I hope we can finish and get our Chronicles before March 5th. Hullric is signed up for the Outpost Convention.
Wilen Proudbrew |
Me too, but I think this is the last leg of our journey. We have 11 days to wind down. Does that sound doable GM?
The Dire GM |
That's my hope (and why I've started throwing out batch-roll options) as well! I'll have the reporting date set for this week no matter what. It'll really just come down to what boons your party gets or doesn't get! ;)
The Dire GM |
In fact, based on the rolls you all made while I was unconscious, we're set to move into the final part of the last act!
Make these last words count, friends, and we shall see this through! :D

...if it was a storm giant sitting on them. Hmph!
"Gawds! A giant on the team? My head can't take any more allies! And don't point at Wilen Ayri-san!
Wilen Proudbrew |
Two notes for the chronicle sheets (relevant to things over 25gp needing to be recorded):
1. I said I'd pay the costs for any spell transcription done by Vili since he saved Wilen's hide, after he carelessly walked into that trap.
2. Wilen will otherwise be copying and transcribing TWO 2nd-level formulae from Vili's formula book (at 40gp each), which is over the 25gp no-record limit.
I still leave it to the GM to decide if/what to do on the chronicle sheet, just putting out a note reminding of the above.
The Dire GM |
Sorry for the slight delay from end-of-game and now, but your chronicle sheets are now ready and online!
Honor's Echo Chronicle Sheets!
Once again, I hope you all had fun playing these quests - thank you for being such a fun group to GM for! I know I'll be seeing at least one of you at a Starfinder PbP table in the upcoming OutPost online convention, but keep an eye out - after that's over, I plan to run more games myself as well!
CanisDirus |
As for purchases and such - I trust you all to cover that on your own sheets.
I'll leave this campaign active for several days in case anyone has questions for me, but I will likely archive it before OutPost begins on March 5th.
Once again, it was fun running this for all of you - all the best! :)
Wilen Proudbrew |
You crossed out Noble of Taldor, but if I'm reading correctly we only got the Impressive Find boon (I'm still new to reading chronicle sheets).
The Dire GM |
This quest series has a mechanic called Variable Rewards - you earn rewards based on how many of the 6 quests you complete (also allows you to do some of them in one sitting then pick up where you left off at a later time so long as you don't play something different in between).
The rewards are cumulative, so you earn all the boons for having completed all six quests - however you cannot earn both the Noble of Taldor and the Knight of Taldor. You get one for supporting Remaio, and the other for making Honaria's case for a restoration of her honor while convincing the Princess that Remaio isn't worthy of being given a title.
Hope that helps?
Wilen Proudbrew |
I understood the variable mechanic, but my sheet only had 5 quests marked off (all but cacaphony). Thanks for clarifying!
CanisDirus |
Ah - those marks are to indicate which quests you acquired "evidence" and "resources" from. Evidence gives you bonuses during the Cacophony quest when trying to sway the court, and Resources affects what items show up on you chronicle sheet. It's another way for this quest series to mark what stuff carries over in case you can only play a couple of them befoe needing to take a break or somesuch - Cacophony has no resources or evidence to acquire, and so it has no boxes to fill.
Wilen Proudbrew |
Okay, I mistakenly read it as the quest completion list the. Thanks :)
