Leoven. |

"Good Morning Reverend Father Leovan. Serjeant Arbalester Vhillish Quarrelwick at your service sir! Good to have you join our company. I have letters of commendation should you require to ascertain the character of myself and my... former lieutenant... Master Winters, whom I believe you have met already?"
Just leoven good gnome, I am still just an rookie.
the last fight with some gnolls has apparently proven that we will be in need of your services in the future. We are heading toward fairhill, would you care to join us? at least for a bit. maybe further depending on what the others say.
Fairhill?, that is a good coincidence, I am planning to go to that place but have not the guts to travel alone. Yes, I would like to travel with you and your group Ma'am

Damien "Wet" Winters |

Damien jerks awake, alarm written across his face. Seeing many of the others awake and moving about his mouth turns down in disgust and he mutters to himself, "Seems discipline is the first thing to go..."
He pulls himself to his feet and begins wrapping up his equipment. The half-elf shoots daggers at his former sergeant as he once more produces his collection of military documentation.
Taking a cup of tea grudgingly he looks down at his companion, "Master Quarrelwick, the Sheriff's civilian commendation aside, should I happen to see, or more specifically should anyone else happen to see my military documentation in future, I swear to the gods I will detail one of our companions to digging us a wee grave by the roadside! Understood?"
Feel free to offer a response, my apologies but I was rather tied up last night. We seem to have skimmed a ways ahead :P
Once everyone is ready, Damien grabs his gear and falls in with the others, glad of the priest's presence among their little group.
Damien is rather quiet the next days, seemingly lost in the act of marching.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
As the group passes the brook he shades his eyes to get a better look at a nearby hill before gesturing towards it, "What do you make of that, Vhillish? I'd say someone is trying to frighten travelers."
Edit : By pointing out the formation I'm not really sure what that does to the other's perception checks?

Jerrid Kinslarn |

Perception check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Guzzling at the fresh brook and refilling his waterskin, Jerrid hums to himself and thinks for the umpteenth time how much he has to be happy about.
Fresh water! I mean really fresh and not clogged with goblin dirt, all smelly and Freya knows what floating down stream. Remember those caves and the hour spent cleaning loincloths. Cleaning blood off the subchief's Lorkaz' armour and getting a good whipping if it wasn't good enough or he wasn't happy. Fresh water that glistens in the sunlight is a magical thing.
Then he gets up and realising everyone else has marched by, he runs to catch up.

Samduc Dawnbringer |

Samduc points to the rock formation.
"That is strange. Well, we have some miles ahead. Time to whistle a merry tune."
Samduc begins to whistle a quaint marching tune.
Sorta like the dwarves song in Snow White.

Janna - The Storm Maiden |

on the road
janna takes the time to travel beside Vhillish as the group presses on.
Vhillish, while I do appreciate the enthusiasm of this little venture, I would also appreciate that you consult me before assuming that ones that show kindness to us is a part of our company. the young priest will make a good addition to our group, but it would be courteous to inform your employer before deciding on weather he joins or not.
Janna pauses to glance skyward again apparently looking for something. then again she looks behind the group, down the road they have traveled from.
There are reasons why I need to be notified before such a decision is made. of course I have already made the offer to him, but please consider this in the future
at the bridge
Those creatures from last night. they may have taken refuge in that cave
Once she realizes the rock formation, of course I don't exactly think that is a natural cave. In either case I feel it best to avoid it. there is something about it that does not seem right.
an old temple perhaps? a perfect place for that S.O.B to ambush us.
Janna looks to the tree line, scanning for something.

Vhillish Quarrelwick |

Vhillish casts his gaze skyward and frowns;
"Aye. Quite the baleful monument I'd wager... sir. Best be wary from here on in."
The gnome serjeant cranks his arbalest, then moves forward coiled and ready for what may come next...
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Leoven. |

Leoven just walk alongside the group without saying to much unless someone talked to him first.
He just observe them trying to learn the personality of everyone of his temporal companions.
To samduc: You seems to be a very motley crew.

Jerrid Kinslarn |

Jerrid notices the general precautions and readies his sling. He stays at the back and waits for something bad to happen. He flips a stone into the air and catches it again, flips, catches, flips and ....
Its just a rock pile.

Jerrid Kinslarn |

What the heck! Chaotic is as chaotic does. Stealth check 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 Can I throw this dice out the window. Perception check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Shrugging Jerrid slips off to the side and slinks up past the rocks to the formation until he slips on the grass and nearly falls. He is so busy looking for trouble he forgets about his footing.
Goblin barbecue!

Kevezyat Faen |

Kevezyat finishes her morning prayers and joins the others in leaving the waystation.
She finds the scenery particularly beautiful this morning, for without Freya's good blessing, Kevezyat would possibly been no more. It reasurred her that Freya still had use of her in this world.
Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
She frowns however when the others notice the foreboding collection of rocks, something she had missed in her reverie.
Standing , she regards the cave with interest, then to Janna "All the more reason to investigate, but I accede to your wishes, this is after all your expedition."
To notice Jerrid sneak off
Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

DM Grimmy |
Jerry diesn't spot any trouble. Perhaps the rock formation is just a landmark if some kind? From the hilltop a trail can be seen winding through the wood towards a more pastoral terrain.
The rock formation is clearly designed to resemble a skulk, as you had guessed.
Jerrid notices that one of the rocks portraying the skulls teeth has a slightly different coloration.

Damien "Wet" Winters |

Did I miss something? I don't remember any mention of a cave? or does Janna simply know something we don't?
Damien nods to Vhillish, "Couldn't agree more, this whole thing is starting to stink."
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damien frowns as the gnome ducks off, he stops and looks to Janna, "It would seem our friend doesn't share your reservations. Though I suppose that's the sort of solidarity one expects from a bunch of freelance fools..."

Janna - The Storm Maiden |

from janna's view she thought it was a cave, she is too far away to really tell so she called it a cave...

Jerrid Kinslarn |

Jerrid tries to work out if it is light because it is hollow. He tries to gently twist and turn the stone until it gives up its secrets. He looks inside the hole left behind too for any other clues.
Perception check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29, +1 for trapfinding

Jerrid Kinslarn |

Not sure if you need me to "unlock" it? Disable Device 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 if needed.
"It rattles," and then he heads back towards the party fiddling with the stone as he goes.

Damien "Wet" Winters |

Damien looks at the rock dubiously, "Hold it still for a moment.
Damien makes a quick gesture and watches the egg intently for a few moment. (Cast Detect Magic - hold for full 3 rounds if needed)

Damien "Wet" Winters |

How strong is the Aura?
Damien spits, "Well it's enchanted, that much is for sure. Better question is why?"
He turns to Janna, "Proper mage might be able to tell us a little more, would you?"

Jerrid Kinslarn |

EDIT: "How?" he waits then will carry on as he intended unless there is a plan.
*
"Okay. Can someone put a flask or canvas under this. And someone ready to catch it."
We have a tent that will do. Jerrid goes behind a rock and taps it on a sharp edge low down near the tent canvas. He increases the strength of the hit until he finally cracks it.

Jerrid Kinslarn |

"That's pretty. Look everyone its a gift!" He holds it up in the sunshine for everyone to see.
He hands it over to whoever with flickering eyes all happy and alive. One for the deep gnome! Treasure, treasure, treasure.

Janna - The Storm Maiden |

Janna simply walks off toward the direction they were heading after taking another check of the sky and the treeline.
not seeing what she is looking for she breathes a sigh of relief.
We need to keep moving is all she says and heads off.

Kevezyat Faen |

Kevezyat hold her hand out for the bauble, "Well found, Jerrid." she says absently, as she extends her senses towards the object.
Detect Evil

Janna - The Storm Maiden |

Janna looks back. we need to keep moving, I don't want... she stops before she says too much and again looks about like a nervous thief trying not to get caught.
we can look it over later, we need to get more distance...
perception for a certain bird: 1d20 ⇒ 13
oh, and nice find. she adds trying to be happy for him, but it is obvious that she is concerned over something.

Samduc Dawnbringer |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Samduc strikes up a conversation with the young cleric.
"I'll call you Leo and you can call me Sam. Lots of people like to give orders, not many like to listen to 'em here."
He points to the dark elf. "The dark elf, for a paladin, seems content to lead by solid example. A formidable warrior, the safest spot in a fight is behind her."
He points to Damien and Villish. "The veterans seem to think we are a military formation. I think they wanted to stop us from cooking last night because it might make the food taste good."

Jerrid Kinslarn |

Jerrid pops the pearl in his backpack and resumes his walk as tail ender. He tries to keep up with the others and the hurrying Janna. As for the playing emotions across her face as she orders the party on, the deep gnome is busy smiling at the thought of that pearl.

DM Grimmy |
The rest of the day's travel is a pleasant change from the journey so far. This stretch of road is less wooded, and upon seeing sunlight and rolling green fields you reallize how claustrophobic you had all begun to feel. Fresh blueberries grow in abundance along the road. The time to camp arrives again. Janna looks as though there is something she would like to say.
