Ok, I set up the combat round. There is a surprise round with Damien, Jerrid and Sam acting, because the orc perception did not beat their stealth.

Then in round one, everyone except Leo and Janna has beat the bad guys initiative.

So only Janna and Leo must wait for the orcs to go before they act.

Everyone else can go now, with Damien, Sam and Jerrid getting to act twice.

I don't know if I did that right but close enough.

I set up Sam and Jerrids tokens so the lead orc has wandered past them without seeing them, and they are close enough to attack.

You can change them if thats not what you have in mind.

Looks good to me! Nice to have a fight with room to move around!

Oh, and Vhillish, don't forget the vertically challenged get an extra +4 to stealth checks ;)

Ok, sorry to keep popping up with rules stuff. But I think you might thank me for for this one Jerrid. Do you have Weapon Finesse? If you made the switch to unchained like Sam you should. If you do, you realize it applies to all light weapons as well as the few others mentioned so your sickle should totally qualify, giving you a much higher attack bonus than you seem to be using!

I'm ready to post whenever, but I think Sam is waiting for some feedback on the orc's disposition (Not favorable I'd wager) before doing anything else. Unfortunately Damien needs our intrepid scout to move before acting. I'm not keen to take an AoO purely due to impatience:P

Looks like it, Nicos hasn't been heard from since we came back from the break. DMG has been kind enough to bot him until we can work him out of the story gracefully.

If Sam did obliterate the yellow orc, Damien would move all the way down to the spot between the orcs and attack the cultist instead. Willing to eat the AoO from the orange one as he's prone so the -4 should keep me safe.

On another note, how much soft cover does a halfling provide? RAW I think it's the full -4 however i think there's a decent case to be made for small characters only providing partial cover of -2, what do you guys think?


I think for cover a character is a character.

So we need to check if Sam added the buff so we can see if the orc is dead?

If he hasn't added the buff the crit will confirm, plus extra damages on the dice yeah?

Edit: OK his sheet says this: Small Dagger +9, 1d3+4 (+1 dagger = +1/+1, dual daggers = -2)

I think he didn't count the buff so yellow orc is dead.

Oh dear, hope it wasn't anything too serious.

The current situation provides me an opportunity to ask a rules question.

Does soft cover prevent AoO's like regular cover and if so, does it count when you leave the square occupied by the ally providing the soft cover?

In this case, in order to move next to Sam, I need to use a move action to enter his space and then continue to the square on his left in order to get around the corner. a 5ft step won't cut it because of the wall. Would Sam provide cover and prevent the AoO if I were to do so?

I'm thinking it still provokes from the orc but I can also see an argument that it doesn't. Just wanting to set a precedent, with Damien's reach it's likely to come up again.

If it will still provoke I'll just wait till either Sam moves or someone finishes off the orc :)


I'm pretty sure soft cover is cover, full stop. It doesn't even really need it's own funny name to confuse things, they could have just said "do people provide cover? yes.'

Fairly serious, nana has infection in heart valve, shell be ok tho.


Somehow I think he can still poke you though. I mean what's stopping him?

Moving Through a Square
You can move through an unoccupied square without difficulty in most circumstances. Difficult terrain and a number of spell effects might hamper your movement through open spaces.

Friend: You can move through a square occupied by a friendly character, unless you are charging. When you move through a square occupied by a friendly character, that character doesn't provide you with cover.

Working for me, but in the middle of the pack there's only so much I can do, haha.

Though, I'm unsure. Is there a door at the bottom of the stairs? Can we see the open pit trap in the corridor? Unless I'm reading the map wrong or it isn't open like Berelli said? Perhaps the cultists closed it?
