The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Iolth flopped down on his bed, groaning. The last couple minutes of were very exhausting. If he hadn't known better, Iolth would've thought that some sort of malefaction was involved.

To mark the beginnings of a very bad day, Iolth was taken through the school on a tour after he got his room situated. That, on its own, wouldn't have been bad. The fact that he was stuck with some student councilman, droning on about tech in a dead monotone while showing off his advanced thrallherding techniques to Iolth, was bad. The whole ordeal gave Iolth a very servere migraine.

Then, Iolth just had to stumble upon a few idiot hotshots, intent on giving the new guy a hard time. When Iolth wouldn't fight back, they got pissed. One of them was a summoner, and guess what? He sicced his eidolon on Iolth, resulting in a massive brawl in the hallway. Luckily, somebody was able to break it up before a teacher could step in. The pair sneered at him and told Iolth that they would finish it at the "Snipe Hunt."

All of that crap happened before Iolth was even out of the office forty-five minutes.

Groaning, Iolth got out of his bed and shambled over to the cafeteria for a quick bite to eat. He was exempt from classes for the first day so he could at least skim the topics that he was supposed to know.

Staring down at his goop, Iolth sees a writhing tentacle in it. Grasping his fork, Iolth starts stabbing the tentacle, and an epic battle between boy and cafeteria abberation ensues.

While battling with the tentacle, Iolth thinks to himself [i]Yep. This is definitely gonna be a looooong day.[/b]

Another person who doesn't read how things work and just (appears to me) wants to write his own story.

What's going on with they lazy reading of late? No quoting, no reading the thread, thr primer, trying to just make stuff up? Pretty sad and annoying.

Vickory-- you'll need to PM Lynora on what equipment your char can find. Here's hoping Iolth reads and grasps your post above as well. Try use quotes going forward, it might help as reference, versus just the word brawl. Took me a re-read of the thread to get it.

Enjoy your day folks.

I am AFK for most of today, but real quick, a few things to be dealt with more in depth later.

Cap, gonna send you a PM later.

General: asking questions about a build is okay, but do try to keep the snark under control so as not to be mean please. Tact is always appreciated, thanks.

Iolth, there are so many things wrong with your last post I don't know where to start. Everyone, please ignore Iolths last post. Iolth, PM incoming later.

All, please pay attention to the game as much as you can and when uncertain of things like time, scenes in progress, and game history please ask.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that my dad (and two others in his department, and several others in other departments) got laid off because TVA restructured due to "inefficiencies causing a loss of funds"
My dad has been working for TVA for around 8 and a half years
My father was assured that TVA found no fault in my father's years of work to the company, this was merely an unfortunate economic situation
Former employees were/are supposed to get first choice at any vacated/new positions
TVA has been less than accessible to my father's attempts to contact them
The other day my dad found out that 4 new ([sarcasm]and in no way related to any of the old positions we got rid of, any signs of having identical job descriptions are surely coincidence[/sarcasm]) positions opened up in that same department.

I am somewhat frustrated.

After looking at all of the things I did wrong at this point, I'm afraid that I'm going to have to withdraw from the game, at least until I have read all the way through the backlogs. I have a really bad tendency to make up my own story, with no regards to the rules and lore of the PbP I'm playing in, and I've withdrawn from many games of my own volition to keep from having the GM of the game making the tough call of letting me go. I know this seems rather immature, but I don't really want to mess up again and again and again and again until the GM decides to cut me off.

I'll come back once I've read the backlogs.

Again, if this seems immature, it may be, but I want to preemptively prevent any conflict and arguing.

Well ok
One question would be why do you keep doing it?
But good luck and all that.

In its self your doing nothing wrong making up your own story, That's good, that's creative, Keep it up and don't let any one tell you to stop.

What you got wrong was the Media to do it in, PBP and group RPGs are a collaborative Media form. With oversight from one or a group of minds, this means there are constraints placed on the media implementation based on setting, will and precedent. That's what you now looking for in the back logs. The limits in which you are allowed to be creative in your storytelling. Your creativity is not a fault, your understanding of the media implementation is, that is the setting and precedent of allowed actions.

I know because I hit this problem all the time, :)

How do you deal with it, Captain, when you continue to hit this problem, all the time?

Try my best, it's hard to keep up sometime with story lines, real life having bigger needs. I think that's true of every one. But so try, I also try to hear what others are saying, with the hope of being mindful of GMs players and setting as best I can. But I step over the line of my story telling v needs from a player and game, that's when I take steps back, look at things and try again, all the wile hearing what others say.

Okay, so here's where I have an issue...

1) You don't know his name.
2) No heraldry on him.
3) How would the skill help identify him?

He's acting like a noble, you can tell that much without the skill. But, without a name or title, dunno how you could just 'know' him-- telepathically or what not.

Gonna go read up the skill up. Lemme know if what I just said helps explain where I stand.

EDIT: Seems that the Knowledge skill, typically, is for answering questions on the subject, or identifying monsters and/or weaknesses. In the case of Nobility, it's Etiquette too. I can't see it being used to simply ID him given the interaction thus far, merely being around him. He's like all the jerk nobles or wanna be's. Nothing special or distinctive there, yet.

"Know current rulers and thier symbols" is DC 10

"Know line of succession" is dc 20.

If your charecter was ever in line for any ruling position, dc 20 would likely ID him.
I can see why you would think "oh, that's probably only names"
But she got a 25, and while that doesn't have any specific rules, 20 is the dc to know the whole line of succession.
I think we forget just how high a 25 really is here quite often...

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

Basically, all you're doing to "know line of succession" is adding one question-
What does (name of person in succession) look like?

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Those things don't necessarily mean the same thing.
Knowing a line of succession (like Henry the 8th's) doesn't mean you know what each of them looked like.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Case in point, the first chapter of Matthew in the New Testament.
You can memorize that, and know Jesus' lineage all the way back to David.

Do you know what they look like?

I may have misinterpreted line of succession.

Is that people soon to rule when the king dies or people who already have?

My point was more so that knowladge (noblity) could probably ID people.
25 may not be high enough, i do get that. It's less that i expect it to work now, more so that i think that it could work if the check was better. (Assuming he's a noble at all)

Kryzbyn wrote:

See, that's what i got wrong- i thought line of succession was the hairs to the throne.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Well no, that is a line of succession.
I used the lineage of Jesus to show just because you know names and order, doesn't mean you know the faces.

Modern day would be knowing the British line of succession. You probably know what Elizabeth and Charles look like, maybe Harry and William.

Do you know what Phillip, Charles' father looks like?
Or whoever is after Harry?

I mostly just want to recognize name and subsequintially what house he's from and anything else you would care to give me.
I think a 25, if he's ever been spoken of, would give at least his name. I'm assuming there is some kind of family resemblance she could recognize from him to understand what line he's from at least.
So the issue here is that what I want to know is something you're expecting me to have before I can see what I know about him.

And not specific to Dami, if anyone is wondering how shut-in Archena knows these things about nobles, her parents used to throw extravagant parties she could spy on and after said ended, she held interest and was kept updated on the latest who's who by her ladyservant/friend.

Also, here comes the phrase!
Who wants to guess what the phrase is? ;D

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

That's cool, was just pointing out that one thing didn't necessarily mean another.

I don't know what any of them look like, but i pay no attention to that.

Indeed, a dc 20 problobly wouldn't tell you that.

25 might tell you who those people are (for perspective, that means rolling a 20 with an int of 12 and one rank if it is a class skill. Almost no-one will know that, as most people are, in theory, level one commoners)

30 goes farther, ect, ect...

Now, here, 25 may not be enough, but i think the check was vaild.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Fair enough.

Just realize -- He hasn't shared a name, or has any heraldry. So there's that.

So far as he looks like? Give me a second, I'll PM you with the details for your roll. :)

I DO realize, very well, that a 25 is a HUGE roll. It's disgusting, honestly, cause we're playing people with massive bonuses to skills, who apparently are 'hyper intelligent' yet naïve to the world? The juxtaposition of those two roles is a constant blend of oil and water that makes me cringe. Wish there were a better way to demonstrate that, short of people actually NOT using huge modifiers in their rolls on purpose for knowledges that typically take years to master, yet, upon character creation, are known.

Pet peeve there, there are ways around it, obviously-- but, yeah.

Appreciate the discussion, I'm with Kryzbyn on this. It's one thing to know names and houses, knowing the specific individuals, due to family appearances, is something else, sorta. But, won't hold that against the roll-- just realize, it's a guess at best.

Plus, your explaining the family and parties, isn't something I knew. That helps. :) Perhaps throw that in your profile?

Mailing you shortly.

M Extrodinaraly Contrary Meatbag Fourm pyromancer 1

I've had people pull off 28's at level one before...

25 is hardly "disgusting"

In the beastiaries the level 1 commoners are children mostly, regular people are lvl2-3 commoners or level 1-2 in other classes
