The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

*rolls his eyes* What she said

Sorry.
I was visiting my grandma in rehab. >_<
What happened?
Can I see the posts here?

Female [Classified] Bard 16 / [classified] 16

Mel orinally posted she gets up on a table in the cafeteria to announce to everyone about the party.

but Dave kind of convinced me that might not have been a very good idea, at least with the present mood. don't know how long that is gonna last, but it is starting to bum Mel out now as it seems to have put a clamp down on anything fun at the moment.

but all the posts were deleted. student reaction most likely would need to be handled by a third aprty DM type, since Foul's post made it look real somber if not gonna get hostile.

Male Icy Catfolk Image Warlock/Rogue 16

Ya... probably not the best idea...
I think we need to give the NPC's time to forget about Dave for a while. A small party will be better, in and out of character.
Still a party, though.
Also, Dave has met all those people. At least briefly.

Female [Classified] Bard 16 / [classified] 16

If you still want Mel to come she will, unless you want to keep it more intamate

by the way there are more than three.

Mel
Dom
Tami
Tybs
Arthur

might get Florence to come as well

there is 6 people...

EDIt, can't forget Igni there's 7

Figment Narrator 20

Why would igni come, or Tami for that matter
And Dave hasn't met Arthur, or Florence
Here was my post
The reactions to her shouts are rather mixed to say the least, there where some chuckles a few cheers and even one quickling student who shouted out "hell yeah!"before being punched good naturedly in the arm by the stocky elf at his side. But there were also a number of glares at her, whether at her insensitivity, given the recent turmoil, her present company, or simply the early hour given that some of the glares were from students still in their sleeping clothes is unclear.
What is clear is the fact that people will be talking about the party.

Female [Classified] Bard 16 / [classified] 16

they are friends of mel, and Tami is like dateing (almost living together) with Dom.

with Kai being MIA , Mel needs a date and Arthur would probably be Mel's date.

Mel has friends too remember...

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

Tami, Raelle, Ginni, and Morrivan are all good friends, so there's a conflict there for Tami. She's been up front about the fact that she's trying to stay neutral for Dom's sake, but if she has to make a choice, she'll choose her friends. She's not actively against Dave. But she's not his friend either.

Figured as much,
It's almost depressing really,

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

On the other hand, you forgot Rena. Dave met her before as well and she's likely to accept an invite.

Male sorcerer 16 wilder (leader/telepath) 3 elocater 2, thrallherd 1, pyrokineticist 10.

No one brought her up, and Dave (once the energy from the anger drained out) is feeling too depressed to think of such, if he does think of her,he's just as liable to think she'll start batwing him as soon as she finds out about everything, he's probably wrong, but depression doesn't follow logic,

Male Icy Catfolk Image Warlock/Rogue 16

I can't remember if Tybs met Rena.
I think he did when she was in snake mode, but I don't think in angel mode.

Male Icy Catfolk Image Warlock/Rogue 16

After a while of knowing him, would Tybs know if Dave is the kind of person that would be cheered up by the opportunity to break glass stuff? Like a lot. Like that scene in Zombieland where they did that to cheer the kids up?

Male sorcerer 16 wilder (leader/telepath) 3 elocater 2, thrallherd 1, pyrokineticist 10.

Don't know
It wouldn't help in the same way as it helped them, he wouldn't really find release on such things that were so easy to break, and sim room wouldn't be all that much better as Dave would know on several levels that what he was fighting was fake
Still the attempt very well might help, show you cared and was trying to help,
On the other hand, in the state he's in it might backfire "is that all you think I do, wreck and destroy things? Is this how you think I get my jollies?!?"
I'd leave it up to a random roll, and I'm not telling you the odds

Close friends with Ginni. Tami wants to be friends with her because of her relationship with Dom, but they haven't spent much time together. The other two have really only spent a short amount of time with her and don't know her that well yet.

The social relationships in this group are a total mess right now.

Female [Classified] Bard 16 / [classified] 16

that much I know, but Mel is now gonna be stuck in the middle concerning Dave.

also I really would like Tami to be friends with Mel because she wants to, not because of Dom.

@Mel, I can't seem to respond to your last pm. I think I'm blocked cause it says "blocked" next to your name, so it might be on your end.

I just checked and it did not come up as blocked.

can you try writing a new one?

Found it. Somehow I blocked you. Don't how though. Took me ages to find out how to check that stuff.

So... um...

We were just fighting a Wizard on a demiplane in our RL game.

He cast Dismissal on me, intending to separate us. Unfortunately for me, Dismissal has a 20% chance to send you to a random plane other than your home plane. And I rolled it.

So... level 9 sorcerer with no ranks in Knowledge (Planes) and no dimensional travel abilities... is now floating in the Astral Plane with no idea where she is.

Mel isn't stuck in the middle because of Dave. She's stuck in the middle because of her friendships with Tybs and Ginni. There are two unresolvable situations within the group. Tybs can't stand being around Ace because the psycho trapped in Ace's mind tried to melt him. Raelle can't be friends with Dave because he subconsciously mind controlled her. Because Mel is friends with Tybs this puts a strain on her friendship with Ace (super awkward since he's in her band) which also makes things awkward with Ginni. (Although currently Ace is on the outs with Ginni which is even more awkward for the band.) Since Ginni is also friends with Raelle this makes being friends with Dave, which is practically required in order to be friends with Tybs, another source of stress on that relationship. There's not an easy solution for all of this.

As for why Tami wants to be friends with her, seriously, they barely know each other. Does it actually matter why Tami wants to take the time to get to know her better and try to be friends? I mean, there kind of needs to be a reason why she'd bother to put in the time and it's either going to be because of Dom or because of Ginni. Mel's winning personality doesn't do her much good from a distance...

...
First of all, dissmisal from a wizard in their Demi plane is kind of a cheap @$$ move on the DM's part... a smart one. A logical one. But still pretty cheap...

Second.... what class are you thinking for the new character? ;)

All in good fun...

But for SRS: was this for suggestions or "this was funny/ frustrating?"

o.O

Well...that could either end up epically awesome or really, really bad. There's not a lot of in-between room with that...

Female [Classified] Bard 16 / [classified] 16

Lyn this is all soooo confusing.

but we will just have to see where it all goes...
as far as Mel and a band, yeah, i see that failing before it starts right now.

Most a "this was funny" moment, hehe. We broke out some old Random Planes tables and had some fun. :)

The Encounter is actually part of an Adventure Path. Plus, I like my villains to be canny. When the DM was all "Alright, he's casting Dismissal" we were all "Dismissal? We're not... oh... shi--"

Next session we get to see if she survives in the Astral Plane long enough for the rest of the group to Scry her down and try to rescue her.

(Smart money is on being eaten by an Astral Whale).

Also:
It's pretty late. I'm pretty tired. And I pretty have to work tomorrow.
But, I need to ask this before I forget about it again:
What is Earth in this setting?
I am assuming Onei is from Earth, but that doesn't affect much.

But, Tryko'Sam...
He's directly from Earth apparently and I don't really know what I'm supposed to do with this.
I had been thinking this, but the Tybs T-shirt thing kinda tipped it. What can we use from Earth? Did this Earth have "alien" contact, so that earth culture is out there being tossed around?
What of our culture can we use here without it being a continuity issue, because technically everything we do is from Earth. I feel like it limits us to only the thing we make up. We can't use anything that already exists, because it existed on Earth and we'd need a way to explain how we either came up with the exact same thing as another person on a rock a billion light years away, or a way that we could say it did come from Earth, without putting in aliens.
What about popular songs? Everything we link is an Earth song. If we link it as an "original" song here, did it not happen on this universe's Earth?
How do we explain Common being English?
Are there differences between our Earth and this Earth?
How does(did, because it also blew up from what I can tell*) the Empire effect Earth?
What year was it?
How do we explain calling dirt "earth?" Does that mean they decided to name the planet after the universal common word for dirt?
And are dragons and wizards and dwarves universal? Did this universe's Earth get visited by fantasy things?

*if this is true, and I'm right about Onei being from Earth, what happens when he gets the books? Does he wake up floating in Earth's debris?

--------------

I mean, I totally trust Lyn and Dami's decisions, but bringing Earth into a game just kinda wacks me out a bit. Like you said Anime stuff does to you, Dami.
Not being mean, please don't take it that way. I just need some answers.
I'm not even doing the really super meta stuff this brings up, like DND or pathfinder on Earth...

To settle some of your concerns, Magic:

Tryko'Sam's Earth is gone - blown up. In case you haven't followed his story.

Tryko'Sam did this by causing the Earth to be sucked into a Black Hole, including himself in the process.

He didn't die.

Some (rather nutty) hypotheses postulate that if you go all the way through a black hole you might end up in another universe. (Naturally, in a typical case there would be no way to survive such a process).

Tryko'Sam survived going all the way through a Black Hole.

His Earth is probably in a completely different universe, and given the fact that our good Tryko'Sam /floated/ to Agartha through space... this probably occured millions if not billions of years ago.

No need to explain Common being English - it just is.

(Though, in Golarion, Taldor is basically a 'britian' type setting from my understanding, and Common is actually Taldan).

Oneiro's Earth and Tryko'Sam's Earth are not necessarily the same place - could be the same planet but in different dimensions.

The most interesting thing to me... if Avalon's library does indeed contain every (non-magical) book ever written, it actually contains literal books from our Earth. Our characters could read Lord of the Rings or Dragonlance.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

I would like to think and hope that Tyrko'Sam's Earth is one of a few in the multiverse.

If its not, it would be really kinda messed up for him to destroy the most familiar setting we all have and thus not be able to bring any future PCs as hailing from there, unless they too are ancient or hidden away/protected.

Also, does Avalon's library only contain all non-magickal books, because if so, there goes on hell of an idea I had for some villainy at one point.

Monkeygod wrote:

I mostly included that line for the Oneiro storyline - his books do not show up in the library. Other magical books could, or not, as story dictates.

male human monk 16

Also if every book is there. than lang's trip to the sun to retrieve those scrolls was not needed either, since they were there in the library right? so all the proof needed was always there.

Yea, that makes sense, I just wanted to make sure there was no prior established "no magick books in the library" precedent.

It does have magic books, but they're in a "dangerous" part of the library. I don't really know how a library can be dangerous, but that probably just means I'll be the first one to die...

And back to my thing, that does help a little bit.
My important part was mostly the culture thing, so that still needs an answer, but I think it's more of a Lyn or Dami or Db3 question.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

Tryko'Sam's Earth is from a different dimension as FCD already pointed out. While it is similar to our Earth in many ways, it is not the same place. In fact, I promise, while alternates do occasionally appear, our Earth will never be used in the game. Because that gets to be a bit Inception-like and gives people headaches.
We use things that are often similar to things that are familiar to us because in a universe filled with infinite dimensions everything exists somewhere and most things exist in multiple somewheres.

Common isn't English. Common is Common. We speak English, so that's what we're using to represent Common. Don't overthink it so much.

Yes, to anyone else calling a planet Earth sounds like it was very uncreatively named dirt. As planetary names go, it does kind of suck. Just because it's the name of our planet doesn't mean it's a good name...

No, dragons and wizards and such are not universal. Different things exist on different worlds. Space travel tends to fix that.

For insight into the layered multi-dimensional structure that this universe uses, I recommend spending some time watching Sliders. Cheesy? Yes, of course. But it gets the idea across.

And the exact quote regarding the library is that it "Contains every book ever written" and some written things that aren't actually long enough to be books. I do not recall specifying non-magical. Some books are easier to find than others, however.

Oneiro's books aren't really books, thus they do not exist in L-space.

I might say on that front that "Nothing is original".

We think of our own universe as mind-bogglingly massive, yet the multi-verse is even more-so.

Honestly, us linking songs is mostly for our own OOC benefit, rather than any particular IC benefit - we want to know what we sound like in game, so we find music out of game to match it.

Of course, Dragonstar actually already has addressed some of these concerns - seeing as how all the planets and such seem to have humans, elves, dwarves, drow, and so on, Dragonstar explains it as the result of literal Divine Intervention. The Twelve Dietypes (of which all other gods are Aspects of one or more) created the universe with all it's myriad worlds.

Dragonstar Answer:

I can hear you asking the questions already, the same ones that were swirling in my mind when I signed on with the Legions. How?

How are there dragons all over the galaxy? Heck, how are there humans and orcs and elves and dwarves and everyone else on most every inhabited world? We’re all from different planets, right? Why are we all the same?

And why do we speak the same languages? It’s a big galaxy out there, almost unfathomable in its depth. Assuming you’re going to run into people from other planets eventually, what’s the chance of them looking like the people who grew up next door to you?

Zero. But that’s because chance has nothing to do with it.

You’re thinking logically, when what you really need is faith. Science tells you that life evolved on another planet is going to be radically different. Sure, maybe you can argue for parallel evolution and similar theories, but given the vast number of possibilities, the kind of sameness we see in the known galaxy is inexplicable. At least by science. But it can be explained by magic— magic of the most powerful kind.

Lang Fei wrote:

Not really. Lang's trip had other purposes. Also, the scrolls being retrieved means they can be easily accessed outside of the library. Books and/or documents that have been destroyed tend to resist being taken outside the library. You can make copies, but moving the original becomes problematic.

Also, regarding the name "Earth".

Nearly every language that has a concept of the planet as a whole has named it similarly to "soil/ground".

It might seem lame, but soil is what keeps us humans alive. We literally name our planet that which keeps us alive.

I can think of no better name :)

...
Uber Christian kid probably should've jumped to the divine intervention conclusion a little earlier...

Thanks for the answers. I think I'm good now.

I'm still going to feel awkward answering Tryko'Sam's questions as to where I got things, though...

My Earth, from Tryko'Sam, is unique, don't stress how you play your awareness of the planet, I'll be consistent with his responses.

Plus obviously what Lyn and FCD said.

Thanks!

Home soon, in case.

Bah... need to sleep. More posts tomorrow!

Interestingly, the treecat (what happened to the little bugger anyway?) comes from a universe with Earth as well. And that universe is the one that Sorenson learned computer science and the scientific method from, which heavily affected the arcane stuff that Vickory now makes.

Greatest thing since sliced bread? So this is it huh folks? Ten thousand years of civilization and this is the best thing we can come up with?

The Great Wall of China, the Pyramids, Panama Canal, even a lava lamp I consider to be greater than sliced bread.

What's the big deal, you got a loaf of bread, you got a knife, slice the f'n thing and move on with your life...

Tybs I'm having some significant difficulty in answering your post, IRL I was diagnosed with depression when I was in 3rd-4th grade, until this year I haven't had an episode in years, docs thought I grew out of it, but this year I've had several episodes this year, anyway it's really hard to delibritly pull yourself out of one of these episodes, you just gotta wait them out, and try to keep marching on in the meen time
That being said, depression is one of those disorders that manly men don't like admiring to having, (and in any case Dave is bipolar) so I don't know how to answer you, but silence wouldn't be it
I'm thinking about getting him angry that you're in his face (it's relatively easy to go from depression to anger, and anger is much easier to get rid of) but I'm trying to get it to feel right
Anyway, cold causes things to contract, heat to expand/loosen
Normally when you're tense getting in the hot tub is a good idea,
Cold is for the releaving of swelling
