The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

I think that there is an inherent misunderstanding there of what this game is. This isn't a commercial product. This isn't some grand new publishable setting.

I think now your willfully misunderstanding me to not hear what I am saying. Of course its not a commercial product. But that dos not mean players can't own and build whole parts of the world setting with out the limiting from the core group. My point is still valid, there is an oversight group that limits world contribution.

lynora wrote:

This is effectively a home game taking elements from many different systems as we like to make a whole that is fun for us to play in. We just happen to be gathering via the internet rather than sitting around a table. Many different people have contributed to the setting since it began.

That core start as long again been past, shame its pushed back into that box all the time.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but as the main GM a part of my job is keeping the setting consistent and making sure that someone doesn't make something that contradicts what's already in place, and also to make sure that when you have contributed something that someone else doesn't come along and negate it all.

And my point is you can do both wile letting players add and truly expand setting, I know I have done it and seen some of the best do it.

This is not to say your not good at just that, but I feel its limiting.
My feeling others my not feel that,

lynora wrote:

I don't think you'll ever be truly happy playing in someone else's setting, Spugs, which is why I suggested that you run your own game where you can set the pace and put in the ideas you want to use.

That is very untrue, I never wanted to own the game or become you. I wanted to have true input, thats is and can be done. Lots of game setting and worlds let other contribute content. That is not what happens here, what happens here is a table top game, with a small core group asked other to come play a long side as long as they do not interfere with the core groups table top game, But this has grown well beyond that, I will not list the PMs I got asking me to 1: Come Back and 2: How much fun it was to play with other content in game. Thats what got me in the end. A world/game like this can grow to a much deeper and richer level is allowed to, but its clear that's not what you or the core group want. Its your world your rules if thats what you want then fine.

This is why I am going, simple as that, I want to feel like I am growing not just a PC but a world, adding to it. The fun ended for me when it become clear, this is and will always be a house Table top game where only core group players will be allowed to have that scope in game play.

I am not spending my Game time being a walk on part to such a core group and thats how I feel all my PCs and GMs PCs where being.

Have fun core team, and enjoy the bit parts playing others.

That's me done now.
2 hours of free time gone.

All the best to you all, have fun, be cool and enjoy ya selfs,

Spugs is done.

What a bunch of whiny tripe.

The DM not letting your culture BS destroy the threat of the setting and pretty much the whole story is not the equivalent of holding you back. It's called reigning you in. Which Lyn has done to most of us, even the 'core' players. It's her job.

I guess at this point, not only do I not care if you take your ball and go home, I'll hand you the ball and hold the door open for you.

To quote Tombstone:

"Well...bye."

I realize you won't read this Slugs, but Lynora is probably the most accommodating GM ever. Any failure to fit into this setting is, by my opinion, your fault. You made virtually no effort to fit in, to learn about the setting before doing your own stuff with it. You made no actual effort to fit into the setting. None of your PCs are even FROM Agartha. You failed to adapt to this table, and that is your fault and I refuse to sit idle while you spew venom at my friend for your failures.

As for this so-called 'core group', please, name them for me. Cause DB3 rarely interacts with Lyn, Dalesman's posting time is limited. Only Lurch, myself and Kryzbyn are "old timers" for this game. Everyone else started about the same time as you did.

So take your failure, and darken this thread no more. I'm done being polite.

Ok i hope mel is ok then being techno. I try not to go overboard with her stuff and i hope the timelord stuff is pretty well reigned in.

Feel free to let me know if mel is getting out of line

Hah! I thought I picked up on a distinct Time Lord vibe. :)

On the other topic, Lynora, I have always thought you do a magnificent job refereeing this game. I enjoy it, and I hope you let Spugs' criticism roll off like the proverbial duck's back.

Cheers, and thanks for letting me play a part.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

Melody is completely fine and hasn't once done anything out of line. You have nothing to worry about. Tech is part of the game and has been from the beginning. I have no intention of removing that from the setting. When there are problems with things has to do with usually one of two things. Constantly arguing with me about stuff and/or refusing to adapt to the setting; and trying to have some kind of 'all-powerful' ability whether it's magic or tech or really anything. Melody has absolutely none of those problems so please don't feel anxious about it.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

I really, really appreciate the support guys. I find these kind of public airing of grievances to be very upsetting and it really means a lot to me to know that not everyone feels that way.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

You are most welcome.
That was clearly a one-sided problem.

Part of my ugh earlier was that he had come back, to be honest.

Shadow Lodge

While I'll miss Rosa and Star.. Johnny was just to high and mighty about the CULTURE thing. Plus, he made Tybs feel bad.

I have nothing constructive to say about the situation beyond what I have said, so I am going to take Thumper's excellent advice.

Yeah. Unfortunately the downside of always open recruitment is that some people who join will not gel well with the game. And not all of them like to leave quietly. Not much more I can say and still stay gracious about the whole thing.

Hey guys, just wanted to apologize for losing my cool like that. Just wanted to clarify my position - I feel that dissent and such things are fine - when they are constructive in nature. What Spugs was doing wasn't constructive - he was lashing out, in the most immature way possible. He was a little kid having a tantrum at the grocery store cause his mommy won't buy him candy.

He's a grown man, he should know how to handle situations like this with a touch more maturity.

What I mean to say is: yeah, the game isn't perfect. It won't suit everyone. That's the nature of games, especially when people are involved. If you feel there's a problem, deal with it constructively instead of throwing a tantrum in an open forum. This game is full of intelligent, kind-hearted people who will go out of their way to help you enjoy your game, as long as you are willing to work with them.

In short, <3 you guys.

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Not really being a part of this group long I don't have too much to say except that I have seen Lyn in action in other places. She is nothing if not accommodating to others' ideas. I am proud to GM for her in another PbP, and she was one of the pillars of our old OTD games.

Playing by 'fudge' rules and not having a strict table of dice to roll is challenging in its own way. The urge to trump others and make your characters some sort of untouchable uber-god is strong. But how many characters in the stories you love are like this?

The real fun in a good story is had in the flaws, the miscues, the failures. Harry Potter doesn't blast Voldemort into atoms the first time he sees him. Luke Skywalker doesn't defeat Darth Vader when he first meets him face to face. If they were written like that their stories would have been failures. The best protagonists start off unsure, weak, and fearful. Going along with them on their journey towards their destiny is what bonds you to them.

My 2CP for what it is worth.

She/They Entropic Axiomite Doodler 1/Author 5/Talespinner 7/Ad-Lib Artist 2/Worldbuilder 5

Sometimes blunt and direct is the best way to get the point across, especially when less obvious methods have failed to produce the desired results. You didn't lose your cool by my viewing, FCD - you didn't yell, you didn't swear, you didn't insult him. You stated your case directly, you called out mistakes in his claims, and you made your point clearly, concisely, and without unnecessary embellishment or softening while managing to avoid vitriol in the process.

I'm a newer player to avalon and paizo forums. I have never felt like Lyn was rejecting anything that i wanted to do. I have to say to of every rp forum game i have played i have only felt i had less rescrictions in games I was a gm.

So I'm saying Lyn your doing a great job.

Did Ghalen go with Tyrrin to the infirmary, or did they agree to meet later in the cafeteria?

I thought they agreed to meet later, but it's really not set in stone so whichever way you want to go with that.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Allow me to voice my support as well, not just for Lynora, but the vast majority of players as well.

I **LOVE** this game, A LOT. I think about this game constantly, at work, in the shower, at night before I go to bed. On the walk to get my haircut today. Always trying to come up with new and interesting ideas, to make not just my game more enjoyable, but as many others as well.

Sometimes, you need to go and make your own fun. If that isn't possible, or at least not immediately, find a way to help others have fun.

I have a PC in the works that should be coming in soon, who will automatically be tied to a handful of PCs before he even gets to Avalon. I actually can not wait for him to come in, becaue its gonna be a lot of fun and lots of drama.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

Hopefully good drama, and not the facepalm kind ;)

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Kinda like the facepalm drama of a certain class president?? Hehehe

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

So far that's good drama.

How would you guys make a check for timing your own movement to coincide with another's actions?

A readied action would probably be all you need to do (if you've been observing the target for at least a round or so). Then determine if there is any kind of opposed roll or check needed since another person is involved.

[EDIT]: Plus what Fireclaw said ;D

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Unless its a PvP sort of action, just handwave it. I doubt it matters that much.

Well I got the kind of vitrifaction I expected from some, others who PMed , you humble me, thank you, I hope hope you all the best.

Just a side note as an Amber player, I hope you take the time to read the works of Jack Vance who passed away today, a truly great writer of both fantasy and SF. If you want to know where DnD and Pathfinder got a lot of its stuff, like "Prismatic Spray" Read the works of Jack Vance most of all Lyonesse, Dying earth and Cugel's Saga. It may shock you just how much DnD owes to Jack. Great wright and nice guy.

RIP
Jack Vance,
you may have passed away but you books will be a joy to read long into the future.

And I even agree with a few of your grievances, but most of them were against individual players, and should have been handled through pm

I sent you a design idea for that charecter we've been working on, lyn, is it an alright design so far, mechanics wise?

Spugly, I am trying to handle this whole mess with dignity, but I really fail to see why you are still posting to a group from which you have opted out. Whether any of your grievances were legit or not is not the point. The manner in which you chose to express them lacked maturity. You are a very creative person and you contributed a lot to the game. Your characters were very engaging. But you are not the first such person to leave the game on less than cordial terms. I doubt you will be the last. You've dragged this out long enough. I am tired of spending my energy on this drama when I would much rather be using it to work on moving people's stories forward instead.

While I agree that Jack Vance's contribution to gaming should be honored I think you should be posting this in off-topic or books where it belongs. Not here.

I thought I had saved that one when I did the great message purge, but I think I closed word before clicking save for the last time. I seem to have lost the details on the mount. Everything else was good though, and I think I sent you approval on the rest already.

Apparently they need to add a feature to the online campaign page allowing a DM to lock out an ex-player.
