Across the planes and myriad world the obelisks rose. 60 feet of smoky glass topped with a living gold herald, indestructible and shining brightly a beacon for all to see. The Heralds announce the competition. A call for the greatest warriors to fight in a game of the gods. To prove themselves true champions ready to take on anything and anyone. The winner to be given mythic power. The time of the competition draws near and the heralds are opening portals to The Arena. The challenge begins.

This is an adventure. An intense one on one match between each group of champions to the finish. everything happens over the course of a day so it is a short game. Great to jump in for a short length game. Depending on how it goes i will probably run it again.

I am trying to make a balanced field so looking for 4 or 8 players optimally. Post if your interested. The game will start later this week if enough people are interested. I am still working on the map.

Assuming you've looked over and accepted my character, I would like to enter Meredith Nerissa into your arena. Here is the link to her stats, though I am still adjusting her gear, so you should expect changes to the linked file within the next hour or so.

The Exchange

I'd like to drop out. It's just such a hassle to simply prove that my build isn't that optimal...

I'm interested as well, I will have a character posted today.

Count me in, I do have a character I would like to try out.

I'd like to join as well.
I can also get a character in by the end of today.
I'm new to paizo's pbp system, so it may take me some time to figure out. Let me know if you're OK with me joining.

Only issue is the cauldron. everyone is using stuff that is purchased from book. Cauldron looks like a house rules kind of thing as cool as the idea is you'll need to find some other way of dealing with land.

Silver Crusade

actually there will be enough water in each environment for him to get around but it will be limiting for him so keep that in mind. not every environment is completely level either so water will be an issue.

Silver Crusade

@Dutys first you can join. I think we still have slots. I won't be starting game for a day or so as i finalize maps and see who is playing.

I added more info on campaign.

would you consider the use of Templates as long as the Final CR is 10

Are Save-or-die spells OK?
What about baleful polymorph and all those other nasties?
I'm guessing Leadership is a no-go based on what this tournament is about.

Lastly, is paths of prestige an appropriate source?

Almost done with my character. Just finishing the equipment.

Sounds fun. dotting

No save or die spells I am thinking, or for that matter vorpal or other save or die items.

What?

Why on earth not? Are you going to make all melee-ers use non-lethal damage? Please let me know I have an undead character (immune to non-lethal damage) I'd love to bring in....

The Exchange

Chai boy.. the question also still remains...

Why the d4 for mages. This isn't 3.5....

But leadership is OK?

chaiboy wrote:

I'll be honest, my character will almost certainly not be using them, but save or die spells are a big part of some classes/builds. Taking them out of the question will pretty much invalidate a number of builds.

On the other hand though, I will admit that I'm not sure I would say the same of vorpal, so that's kind of hypocritical of me.

On another note though, I have a build specific question. I'm building an oracle, and Spiritual Weapon (and also later, Spiritual Ally), mention using the caster's Wisdom modifier as a bonus on their attack. It's made originally for clerics, but Oracles share the same spell list and are Charisma-based casters instead. Would you rule that, for an Oracle, it uses Charisma, or Wisdom? If it's wisdom, I'll probably grab a different spell.

Dutys Fist wrote:

Leadership is out, if I recall correctly.

If there are still spots open I'd like to add this character to the running. I'd strip him of the mythic playtest stuff of course.

Performance Combat will not be used, correct?

Darkwolf here. Not entirely positive if I did the whole Alias thing correctly. This character is still incomplete at the moment (and may actually switch to a half-elf too... unsure), but is the basic start. Wanted to make sure I got the Alias thing down first though.

I've sent you my character.

I just need to buy scrolls for my spellbook . Gear and feats are ready.

I'm a MAGUS so not much save or die, but really? PF took out most save or die anyway but Is save or lose still OK? Stuff like Sleep, Blindness/Deafness, Sound burst, Glitter dust?
Pretty much all of them are save or lose.

How do you create an alias? I've clicked my alias tab, but I must be missing something.

Okay, here is my guy. He is nearly complete, just need to do the Skills, CMB, CMD and maybe another adjustment or two.

Also, can I roll on the Aasimar table to replace my SLA? If you want I will more then gladly roll here on the boards.

I figured it out!

Varrel Thrunebane wrote:

Really? I took those, but they don't seem like things that'll win or lose a battle if they hit.

Holy Crap! Bindness/Deafness is permanent. I didn't even notice that. Okay, putting Blindness on someone permanently may very well f~%~ them over. That might be a save or lose.

Sound Burst only stuns for a round though. Really that bad? Maybe it's just the way I'm building my character, but I don't see how 1 round of vulnerability for the opponent will necessarily turn the tides.

woops

probably a typo in how i split the lists. or a 3.5 flashback. use the appropriate numbers for your hit die.

As for save or die spells..I'll just give a ruling item by item instead of a blanket no death spells. As Darkwolf just showed there are a number of save or life will be miserable forever type spells and with hero points you have a chance to save from them.

templates from the bestiary...no. they turn out way to powerful.

we are only using the books listed. the table to roll on is from another book not used for this game. sorry.

The campaign page lists the books for this game. It is just you and any familiars/eidolon (if any) so no leadership.

I actually completely forgot those tables didn't show up in the ARG. That means I cant be an Angel-Blooded Aasimar either. I have a bit of changing to do.

I think we are cool. There aren't any save or death spells left in PF.

A few save or suck like polymoph should be ok

I think I'm good now! I might change the equipment around a little more but on the whole I'm good to go.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Likewise. I think I've still got some money to burn if I priced things correctly, and I'm gonna need to pick up some consumables, but other than that, I think I'm pretty much set. You can check out the build on this profile, and if anything looks off, please let me know.

I'd like to get in on this, but for my idea I'd want to know if these characters are going to have the opportunity to level up to 12 at any point. There's things I'd do to optimize a character at 11, that I won't do if he's going to level up to 12 partway through (like dip a level into fighter).

Edit: Actually, it probably won't matter - I think I'm done, and I'll post stats in the morning once I've slept on it (currently an Oread Hungry Ghost / Student of Stone Monk 11). It'll still be good to know, though.

I is ready four sum kombat.

But I needs a gallopy-tingy. I'll faind wan tomorrow for you!

Stats are for the most part up. Still need to stat my mount and my skill ranks, and then I'll be done!

Okay, 2 questions. First, I wanted to ask about taking 10. Assuming a skill does not say you can't, are we able to do so? (In my case specifically, can I take 10 on flight and acrobatics checks, or will I have to roll every time I wanna use 'em?)

The second question though, which is a bit of a bigger deal for me, is whether or not we are able to use feats from the Bestiary if we qualify for them. I gave my guy Flyby Attack, but now I realize that technically the Bestiary is not one of the allowed books. Seeing as it is just usually not something that players make use of, was that just an oversight, or are we keeping that out? I'll need to make some adjustments if I can't take the feat.

Preliminary build is up. I still have a lot of gold to spend, and I'm tossing around the idea of going Monk of the Four Winds instead of Hungry Ghost / Student of Stone.

The Exchange

Build is finished, but I aren't we all publishing them here? Mutual inspection and all?

Raving Dork would be at a significant disadvantage if not - plus I think it will help the GM if the builds are all peer reviewed first.

Frankly, without save or dies I'm not sure I'll have a way of knocking people out of the competition. Hero points give +8 to a save.. soo I'm PvP I'm not sure wizard builds are even feasible. But I don't think you should rule 'em out.

we are not using bestiary this time around. Already have a few people asking about stuff from it and it will be a mess with we suddenly add it in.

There wont be a chance to level during the battle.

This was a one off type thing. The goal is some fun PvP and see how it goes from there.

sorry Joshua, No this is a straight up fight to the finish. The win conditions are in the campaign listing. Once an opponent is no longer a threat the fight is done.

That's what I figured, but good to confirm.
