I would like this to be more who is the stronger instead who is best crafter :/
Honestly, I don't think the crafting is that big of a difference. I tallied up what it did for my character before and after crafting.
Bonuses:
+1 on saving throws
+1 Dex and Cha Mod
Penalties:
-1 Strength Mod, to accommodate the higher Int to put points into spellcraft
-Spent a feat on Craft Wondrous Item, obviously.
-Spent 600 extra gold (I know this is small, but I had already had a lot of miscellaneous items that could be halved in cost. Otherwise, it would have been a lot for those upgrades.)
So, I'm happy with the tradeoff, of course, or I wouldn't have done it. But on a level 11 character, not that big of a difference, in my opinion. YMMV though, I suppose.

Either James is flat-out wrong, or the alchemist REALLY needs errata. They're called out specifically as not being spellcasters, the class says they don't qualify for Brew Potion on their own, and the prerequisite for item creation feats is spellcaster level X (which means Alchemists can't typically take them).
Having said that, I will abide by Chaiboy's ruling should he stick with it.
well james is part of the pathfinder team so i am just going to go with his view of it. It may not be RAW but RAI is fine with me. Alchemists can use their CL for purposes of crafting items. I already added the rule to the icheckfortraps rules list. That rule stands for this competition.
Still not sure that I follow. The only think multiclassing into a spellcasting class would get you is a caster level, allowing you to get crafting feats without Master Craftsman. It would also allow you to craft using a single skill (Spellcraft) rather than several (Craft/Profession).
Is that kind of what you were getting at?
Lets say i am going for a charming type character a succubus blooded type character. I decided to do an Abyssal Sorcerer to get some claws, and go for charm person and summon to summon a dire rabbit or some other evil pet..what ever. Then go rogue to build up her back stab, bluff, escape artist, craft(jewelry) and other related stuff. So if i went sorcerer 2 rogue 9 I COULD get scroll scribe.... and that's it. If wanted to craft a +5 dagger or a necklace that charms people I would have to be sorcerer 5 and rogue 6. BUT if i get Master Craftsman i could use my craft(jewelry) 11 to qualify for Craft Wondrous Item (Caster level 3rd) and Craft Magic Arms and Armor(Caster level 5th) and have a decent chance of building the item.
I am not talking about making the best possible character to win a competition just that the skill allows you to get craft feats with higher CL requirements than you possess in your magic using classes. (yes i could of used bard but i was just giving an example of a weak caster with a martial class)

My comentar was not about power but simplicity. it seems like the last 2 pages were discussion about crafting issues.

Wayang Spell Hunter is not in approved sources, right?
As I posted before, the DC to craft a jingasa is minimum in the 30's so you can't self craft that.
The decision on whether you can cross craft (amulet of natural armor) I don't believe is craftable, but I've explained how I see it and will defer to chai.
The same issue applies to Bracers of the falcon
As far as I know, cracked, burned out etc ioun stones are from seeker of secrets and hence are not legal
Mudball is a goblin only spell.
Fixed.
Dumped Wayang.
Paid full price for Jingasa
Dumped the cracked prisim.
The rest can be crafted via UMD to use a scroll for the spell.

I'm almost done updating my gunslinger/fighter/monk/inquisitor/master crafter. Just a questionon crafting to be clear since we can now use it and there are several rules floating about.
DC increase for a spell you don't have +5 each spell?
DC increase for not meeting crafter level +5 total or each level or you can't bypass this?
I know many people have stated rules as they see them, but I'm really only concerned with the rules as the GM (Chaiboy) or his helper (CP) are implementing them.
Please Don't Kill Me |
I have a few changes to make but here is my final character. Please look because it is drastically different from my original character.

CHAIBOY- if I swap Power Attack for Improved Familiar would you allow a Nosoi familiar to use wands?
You familiar can use any skill you can/using your ranks as long as it is capable of the required action.
Nosoi are Psychopomps in the shape of a raven. Thier text says:
Nosois often use their skill as scribes to aid their mortal masters. Despite their size and apparent lack of hands, they may use medium-sized drawing and writing tools without penalty. They grant their masters a +2 bonus on skill checks made to scribe scrolls. Like all psychopomps, nosois loathe the undead. They immediately leave the service of any master who creates or permanently becomes such an abomination.
My argument would be if they can handle medium sized writing implements well enough to write, they should be capable of holding/pointing a wand at a target and making a UMD check?
This is a common tactic for an imp familiar, but Nosoi don't have hands. They must use their feet.
Would you allow it?

Is there still some place for another challenger?Because I would like to join in.
Why am I not surprised?

The DC increases once PER requirement you don't meet. The DC increases for EACH spell you don't have access to. The DC increases ONCE if you don't meet a caster level requirement.
For example, to craft a cloak of resistance +3, you need to have caster level 9 and the resistance spell. The cloak has a CL of 5. That means the base DC is 10. The DC raises to 15 if you don't meet the spell requirement or the level requirement, and increases to 20 if you have neither.
I hope that helps.

But every creature on the list is in one of the Beastiaries.
I'm sure Chaiboy will allow any familiars mentioned in his chosen books, even if their stats are elsewhere.

Yes any familiar listed in the books posted are allowed. For purposes of your character you use the listed books, but familiars and animal companions information will be from one of the bestiaries.

Chaiboy can you confirm?
Hey thats cool:)
Three questions:
Are Hero Points still part of the equation?
Can I use feats and spells that modify them?
How much time do I have to make the character?

Yes, we have 3 (I think)

since we have some characters finished i think we can start tomorrow. I am going to look over characters that are finished and create a line up of fights. since i can only have 1 thread open at a time the bouts will have to run one after the other. any more than that and we'll have mess trying to figure out who is doing what.
As for building your character you'll have to finish him by sunday. i think some people are still working on things and some not available till monday. Let me know if you still want to join. the first post of the thread has a link to site with all the creation rules. No you start with the 3 and no more so dont waste feats trying to change that.

Looks like with the list restrictions I'm gonna go with Imp.
Take it at 9th level and it gets telephathy ;)
Scroll down for an 11th-level consular imp familiar stat block that might be of use to you.

Arthur had 1 sword, Aside from being a god, Zues really just had lightning bolts, wel that and lots of lust for mortal women, I don't even know who bard is, but I'm guessing he just had arrows and maybe a super cool bow. Heck, even what's his name from clash of the titans only really had a shiels, an owl, a sword I think, maybe something else. All still within the WBL for a non crafting Greek of his level.
I think what some of us didn't like is this as turned into a battle of the magical McGuyvers.
Im not suggesting we change it again, but I understand why it isn't allowed by some people.

Quick question, or at least a thought. Will we be seeing variable Wind Effects? Just wondering (and hoping) that it has been taken into consideration and not overlooked :P
That said, I'm starting to second guess my character :/ I feel like he doesn't have enough highpowered offense now to manage in this arena with a few of these builds I'm seeing. Bluh. Oh well though, I guess we'll see what happens.
