Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Fenn pauses briefly listening to the sounds that do NOT belong down here, "Wha' tha hel~, er sorry ma'am.. ", glancing over his shoulder at Bela'.
Fenn proceeds even more cautiously down the stairs seeking the sounds source...
"What is down here? Some subterranean Druid's refuge?", he asks to no one in particular...
Jeseare Mahan |
Speaks as though not even he is sure if he is speaking to Dervick or to no one in particular:
Already lost a good man in this place and yet they insist on rushing ahead.
Speaks decidedly to Dervick:
I cannae' go much faster but if you can catch up to them let them know Im right behind. Ill light my shield here so youll have a better idea where Im at. If for some reason you cant hear me clankin' that is
Dervick Bosk |
Dervick deposits the unconscious goblin near the door. He sheathes his dagger, draws his greatsword, and says to Jeseare, "I'm called Bosk, usually, and it would be my pleasure to help. I was indeed just wandering by when I saw this little troublemaker fleeing the area, and heard the sounds of a fight. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. I know what that's like. I'll try to catch up with the others."
Minding the pit trap, he makes his way in and towards where he saw the others go.

Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Fenn holds up a hand to signal stop... as he crouches to regard the plant-like vines on the floor. He hold his torch near them.. not actually close enough to set them on fire.. but trying to see if they react on their own.
Kno {Nature}: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
-Are these Assassin vines or something similar like some carniverous plants? Skill check is to ID the plant.
Fenn also pans his gaze around the room looking for any tell-telle signs of bones or previously slain animals wrapped up in the vines or any obvious threats.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Is the floor a stone floor of a packed earth dirt floor?
Turning slightly to address the party... but still keep in his gaze on the room he whispers..
"Everybody stay real quiet-like.. and everybody light a torch! These plants ain't natural.. there is no sunlight down heah ta feed them so they should na' be growing heah... somethin's definitely wrong! Don't touch any o' tha vines!"
Bringor Spellwhisper |
Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, Bringor looks around cautiously with his crossbow at the ready. Assuming he sees no threats, he moves forward to the first box and examines it.
Perception to notice danger in the room: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Perception to examine box: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
+1 in both cases for noticing traps.
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Fenn frowns.. expecting trouble.. but annoyed at not being able to identify it.
He decides to plan ahead... Fenn moves just slightly back up the steps and sets down his pack. Pulling out his rope he takes one end and wraps it around his waste and hands the other end to Jeseare.
Whispering again, "Good father, this hear rope is 60'ft long. Give meh about 30 feet o' slack and tie-off the other end up tha' stairs ta' something secure ok? If'n something snares me in the room.. Ah' may need yaw ta' pull meh back!"
Fenn waits a few moments for the rope to be secured then moves forward sheathing his shortsword and drawing his longsword instead.
Fenn makes his way to the box Bringor is examining, Fenn peaks his head around the box to see what else is in the basement.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Jeseare Mahan |
Your fate child. You might be wise to ask your budding friend if she can sense any magic emanating from the room first. Dont get too far 'till you see me come back down
And Jessare goes to tie off the rope

Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Seeing the mass of plants in the center of the room Fenn again tries to identify what this plant creature is...
Kno {Nature}: Take 10! 10 + 5 = 15
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Fenn ponders the plant ... trying to place the shape of its frond and vines the color its plant mateiral.. and it clicks...
"Ahw Hell NO! Back off from the plant.. its carnivorous.. and dangerous! Its an Assassin Vine.. back off.. don't touch ANY of its vines!"
Turning to Zabela and Father Jeseare, "Do we have any oil ta' burn it with? We can't search this room with that thing threatening tha' whole room!"
Zabela |
Zabela, remaining on the stair at Fenn's behest, detects magic in the room.
"Sorry, all I have are flint & steel, and torches as far as fire goes. Not a lot of use for it in the Fierani," she says with a low tone as she replaces her bow, and unsheathes her rapier.
Sorry it took so long, been moving house...
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Fenn considers the situation... and comes to a tactical strategy.
"Ok.. everyone ready a missile weapon... those that don't have one use one of the Goblin shortbows... we'll kill it with bow fire. Its probably too 'green' to burn properly anyhows."
Fenn sheaths his longsword draws his longbow and moves to take up a firing position next to the box blocking view of the plant creature.
"Everyone line up to fire on it all at once. Once we attack it.. it will start moving.. its slow.. but its got a long reach with those vines. You do not want to get into melee with it or caught in its vines.. it kills Quick! We fire, when it moves forward.. we move back.. keep firing until its dead!"
Fenn waits for everyone to ready a bow.. or he hand those without bows one of the collected Goblin shortbows to fire...
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
When Everyone forms up...
Fenn calls out softly... "Ready. Aim. Release!"
Attack - Point-Blank w/Longbow, STR 12: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 1 = 15
Damage - Point Blank w/Longbow, STR 12: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8
The Chronicler - GM |
Before we go weed-killin', we need to either do initiative or if everyone was trying to be sneaky, stealth. The creature does have perception, so it'd get a chance to notice you, OR we can assume it knows you're there and go straight to init. I personally think perception vs. stealth. I will, however, let everyone keep their attack rolls when we get rolling.
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Ok.. the way Fenn organized it this was supposed to be a stealthy thing to get that round of surprise first... so...
Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Well goblins, bugbears and hobgoblins are one thing.. but THIS particular monster can kill a 1ST LEVEL character in ONE SHOT! None of us have stats at only 15pts OR ANY GEAR needed to safely deal with such a CR3 monster like this whose whole attack is a HUGE CMB/CMD improved grapple & strangle routine, well.. other than use bows! We get grabbed.. its a death sentence.
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
LOL! Just being a mindful adventurer.. sometimes the GM gives a hint that, 'Hey.. this is too tough for you now.. come back latter...' Usually its best to heed that 'subtle' warning! :)
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
[dice=Stealth]HA HA HA
And sorry for the delay... I couldn't access Paizo until just now
you gonna take a shot?
The Chronicler - GM |
Try as they might, the companions are unable to sneak into position to fire their weapons. Their feet constantly trip up and thorns grasp at their clothing. Only Bringor is able to get into position to take a shot at the mass of vegetation. As the bolt disappears into the brush, the creature gives a great shudder that is transferred through the many plants and vines that cover the floor.
Initiative please.
Fenn 'The Jr' {Winter} |
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Wow. This completely makes my plan and tactical maneuvering usless... why did I bother?
The Chronicler - GM |
I'm all for moving the game along, but there are steps. Moving into a room, seeing a well-hid enemy, five people moving into position and firing bows without the slightest chance of a creature noticing is a little outside the realm of realism...even for a fantasy game. A game where the characters run roughshod over every enemy without any fear of damage or death tends to become boring. I'm sure you will all come out on the other side. Whether or not you come out unscathed, we'll have to see.
