Skully:
As you open the door, Jeseare's light slips in. The bedroom on the other side of the door was probably nice once, but now it is less so.

Of all the furnishing that must have once been the room, now only the bed remains. It is what's lying on the bed that gives you pause. Snoring loudly, a bottle of wrapped its arm, is a hobgoblin.

[ooc]Not exactly sure how this is ruled but she wants to try and knock him out while sleeping.. Essentially a coup de grace but with nonlethal damage.. Ive found no rules on it, yall know anything? If it were me i would say DC 10+damage fort or go unconcious, but im fine with just rolling straight damage if that what you want..

You are exactly correct Skully.. you can coup de grace with a non-lethal damaging weapon. If the foe is helpless it is the same fort save DC 10+damage inflicted.. but failure means only unconsciousness, not death. In this case also.. you can apply your precision damage from sneak attack as the foe is definitely flat-footed and denied his dex bonus to AC.

She'll sneak up and bop him on the head..

Nonlethal Damage: 2d4 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 + (6) = 13

So he needs to make a DC 23 Fort or be knocked out..

I'm interrupting a full round action... Fenn is not going to let Brom kill the hobgoblin before we even know who he is. Killing a foe in combat in one thing killing a helpless foe is entirely another!

Lawful Neutral: A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs her. Order and organization are paramount. She may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or she may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government.

1)hobgoblin-evil creature probably involved in killing and robbing merchants in the area.
2)Local authorities asked us to deal with the problem if we could.
3)The hobgoblin would have to be left behind. were it to get free it becomes an immediate threat to the safty of the party.
4)Brom is a mercenary, meaning he gets paid to kill people.

The way I see it this action fits within Broms personal code and the law of the area. It makes tactical sense. It is progress towards Fenn's stated goal, and the execution of a criminal. What do you think would be done to the hobgoblin if we marched it back to New Wesel?

1) We don't know the hobgoblin is evil.. nor if it is even involved with the road robbery. We should question him first.. not possible with him unconscious. But we can tie it up and find out the truth latter we don't need and should not kill first then try to find out after the fact if we got the real boss. The Goblin told us it was a human in charge anyways.. he might have been lying but to assume so is careless.

2) Yes the local authorities told us we could handle the problem... that does not mean killing everything in our path.

3) No the hobgoblin does not need to be left behind at all.. we can escort him back to the city under our watchful eye to not only face whatever justice they deemed appropriate but also to prove we actually did find the source of the trouble... IF the hobgoblin is actually involved at all! Which we won't know for certain if you just kill him when he is helpless and not a threat anymore. If we keep going as we are we will sweep the building of all hostiles before he's even awake. Tied up and gagged he will keep. We can always kill later, if it is deemed an unfortunate necessity.

Yes, Fenn said clean out everything that's a threat... that STILL does not mean killing Everyone we run across. We found the hobgoblin sleeping.. NOT a threat, we got NO Idea who he is or what he's doing here! Even the tribe of goblins Fenn is quite satisfied with running them off if its possible ... he not seeing it as a NEEDFUL thing to hunt them all down to the last to kill them all! If we can get them to flee, they likely will not come back. Fenn is not opposed to killing those that resist being rousted out of the Manor but killing a helpless prisoneer is a moral no no in his book and it should be Also to a professional mercenary!

Even a lawful Neutral should have problems with just killing a prisoneer without even talking to him to find out if he is even involved.. now if you mean by this that Brom is a bigot and just hates all goblinoids that's one thing.. but we don't know if the hobgoblin is involved at all. He's only the first person in the manor we've met! And if we did march him back to New Weasel and they decided to execute him it would STILL be in our best interests to do that.. it shows we not only support the law but we can do more than think with our swords! It is verifiable and documented reputation that we got the criminal and solved the crimes - it only enhances our view int he eyes of the powers that be that we are a capable adventuring party.. and not just a bunch of punk thugs who might have gotten lucky on their first adventure.

Youngins! What are we all doing? I guess this is my fault for not thinking to cross this bridge before we got here... we knew we'd be finding something like this creature here. I'm not exactly from these parts but until proven otherwise I think I have to concur with Mr.Fenn against single party decision summary executions. That being said, everyone, I'm sure Mr. Bronn was just meaning to do his best to protect the interests of this excursion. Fenn maintains his position interposing between Brom and the unconscious Hobgoblin, the longsword is his hand is clearly seen is ...somewhat laughable.. its wroughly crafted with crude imperfections in the blade... until one notices the well-honed blade edge and the obvious scratches of battle-tested use. It may not be pretty but it has seen battle and has not chipped or cracked in combat - crude.. but certainly effective.

However, currently, Fenn does not have it raised in threat in fact lowers it point to the floor when Jeseare speaks up in support.

Fenn softens his tone, not wanting to insult the human mercenary, "Look Brom, Ah can understand your want to protect tha' party and neutralize threats - but we don't know how this hobgoblin is involved.. or even if he is involved! Ah know its highly suspect him being here an all.. but there may be more going on here than we know. We need to question him... we can't do tha' now but we can latter. Well, normally it would seem most prudent to continue about the premises in our search but in this case I am going to suggest we restrain our foundling here. Then I can either revive him or we can wait for him to come to naturally, if that is plausible. I dont really know how long a good wallop from one of those things usually puts someone out for. Perhaps you can give us a guess, Mrs. Skully? From there we can see what the hobgoblin has to say and move from there.

Well, that is if we feel like someone here has a chance to make meaningful communication with him. Mr. Quolamin, you seem the best resource here so I will defer to your judgment.

I dont think it wise to leave him here bound while we explore the rest of this house as, if there are other occupants, one might stumble upon our charge and unbind him. The room has seen better days. What once had been furniture has long been smashed beyond repair or recognition. A chair perhaps...maybe a dresser. You do see some glass in the debris and can safely assume that an oil lamp was once part of the decor. The bed is soiled with all manner of detritus.

The hobgoblin is wearing studded leather armor and a longsword lies just beyond his reach on the edge of the bed. The bottle he held is nearly empty. There is a griffon stamp on the side.

We should move along Fenn is getting ahead of us. Brom says to the others and motions for them to continue searching the manor.

The hall leads to a large room that had been the main dining room. A long table sits towards the back of the room. Six chairs are around the table. Scraps of food sit on and around ceramic plates. Empty bottles litter the area. There is a fireplace against the back wall. It doesn't look as if its been used in some time.

There are two hallways on either side of the room that lead to closed doors. There are also other doors.

I marked the rooms that have closed or open doors.

Fenn is already headed to the room on the right side of the dinning room so I guess that is the next place we are looking. What are the little things at the end of the hallways.

perception: 1d20 ⇒ 12

Brom follows Fenn into the dining room and looks around curiously. This is an area where we might find a wine bottle but all the bottles here look empty. If the goblins or hobgoblins found the bottle we are out of luck he thinks when he sees the bottles littering the area. I hope Fenn's friend didn't drink our bottle of wine already. He says to the others.

GM:
How do you interpret Detect Magic?

I ask only as, in my opinion there would have been an aura emanating from under the bed/area where Skully found the bag.
PFSRD definition: Detect Magic

Of course house rules trump...

HP 10/10 | AC 18 | T 15 | FF 14 | CMD 14 | Fort +2 | Ref +7 | Will +1* | Init +4 | Perc +6

Skull scouts ahead, looking for potential traps..

Taking 20 on search for a 26/27 for traps
Taking 10 on stealth for a 21

Brom, they are closed doors. Q, I wasn't sure how that would work...didn't know if the bed would block the aura.

Init+0 -- Perc+4 Human Male Cleric 1 -- AC 17/10/17 -- Fort+4 Ref+1 Will+6 HP 13/13 -- Channel 7/7

*Continues following along, contentedly*
