Just picked this adventure path up. While I know it does not provide PFS xp credit (that I know of) I think it would be a great adventure path to run given a small group. I have some time on my hands and I figure I could give this a go (at least the first book) to see if being villainous is viable. Does anyone have any tips on this adventure path for a PbP campaign?

Im sure if you look in recruitment thread you will find a few that has started.

In my profile you can have a look too. I am in a game currently :)

If you do run it, let me know, i have an idea or two for other characters id like to try in this AP

Gestalt is also a fun and popular method of running it

Hope this helps
=^^=

The General Discussion forum would be a good place to start. This board is for recruitment once you are (almost) ready to start. Here is a search list to get you started.

Shadow Lodge

"Make it a gestalt game" he offered hopefully :P

^^ see what i mean? ;)

Shadow Lodge

It is fun and makes a lot of fun concepts work and be effective that would never work otherwise,
One of the weirder (though very much awesome) examples of such that I've seen is a bard/gunslinger.

Ten Commandments of Gestalt:

1) Action Economy Is Still King
-Full Triple-progression casting is cute, but ultimately futile in combat since nearly every spell, Power, Invocation, etc takes a Standard Action to use, and you still only get one of those per round. Try to mix your activation abilities up, between Standard, Move, and Swift actions, so that you can get more out of what you have.

2) Focus On One Theme
-Having schizophrenic capabilities just means you'll be more at a loss in combat, despite the increased options, especially if the two sides interfere with each other in normal use. Barbarian/Wizard, though it may sound awesome, generally either gives up most of the benefits from one side of the progression or else is just confused in battle. If it can't be effectively done on one class, it generally isn't worth doing on two.

3) Strengthen Each Other's Weaknesses
-Since you always take the higher HP, BAB, Save, skill points and both skill lists, try to ensure that your secondary class is good at some things that your main one isn't.

4) Remember Your Stats
-Twice as many "classes" means twice as many opportunities for MAD. Make sure your key abilities from both sides are still lined up onto one or two main stats

5) Remember Your Feats
-Feats are the one thing you don't get multiples or increased numbers of normally. This makes prerequisites and feat chains just as hard to squeeze in as normal, more so if you want to Prestige on both sides of the equation (and many do)

6) Dipping Is Easier
-In Gestalt, dipping 1-3 levels on one side for supporting capabilities does not delay or prevent high-level capabilities from your other side. Ftr 2 for feats and proficiencies, Paladin 2-3 for Cha to saves and immunities, Meldshaper levels, etc are all simple and powerful options.

7) Beware Wasting Identical Advantages
-This causes pure waste. A PrC attempting to increase your Wizard caster level on one side and a level of Wizard on the other just lost a caster level benefit. Similar things go for other benefits, such as Uncanny Dodge, high HP/skills, and Proficiencies (not as much a concern as the others).

8) Active/Passive Mix is Typically Best
-Let one side have the abilities which require actions. You can put together cool utility, long-term buffing, bonus feats, and static/reactive abilities on the other side

9) The Very Worst Classes Sometimes Aren't Bad Here
-Monk, with its dominant saves, decent skills, and host of static abilities, is a FAR better choice for support-side levels than it is for single-class. The Expert, despite being an NPC class, notably is able to pick ANY TEN SKILLS as class skills with 6+Int per level, which can be clutch if your prereqs are getting tight. Any class that usually has the phrase "if only it had ___" can easily acquire it. Basically, almost anything can be of benefit to SOMEONE under Gestalt system (other than Commoner)

10) DM Always Has Final Word
-Just like normal, if you are crafting an epic masterpiece of a character but it will outshine the others of the group, expect any sane DM to veto it, or else be ready to throttle back what you can do for the sake of having, you know, fun."

Commandment #9 deserves special note I would think.

I might be interested. I am not a fan of gestalt.

Rules for Qwerty’s Way of the Wicked
1.RP is important.
2.I will pick five characters to do this wickedness.
3.Start at first level in one class with a 20 point buy. Gestat’alting will occur soon after the scenario begins. And what you want may not be what you best gestalt into based on character choices.
4.Initial Class can be any of the classes from the core book, ultimate combat, ultimate magic, advanced class guide, advanced players guide and all appropriate archetypes. However no Summoners that wear their eidolon. Looking for RP’ing flow more than min/max’ing.
5.Gestalting will only be done with classes from the Core rulebook (mostly because I know those best and am still learning the Pathfinder system).
6.Races- all allowed. Be advised races that have certain environmental requirements (Merfolk, Gillmen) or difficult to hide (Strix wings) may prove difficult. Also a team of all Orcs will have difficulty Bluffing and Diplomacizing NPCs.
7.There is one alignment to start with and that is LE (or NE for barbarians and druids only). If during the course of the wickedness you find your character becoming slightly more neutral then we can discuss altering the alignment by one step. Although that will also impact your capabilities in the adventure.
8.2 traits to start with.
9.Select a crime from this list for which you were imprisoned: Arson, Attempted Murder, Blasphemy, Witchcraft, Desecration, Desertion, Dueling, Extortion, Forgery, Fraud, Grave Robbery, Heresy, High Theft, High Treason, Kidnapping, Murder, Piracy, Sedition, Slave-Taking, Slave Trading.
10.Come up with a backstory on how you ended up in chains; family, friends, personality, crime committed, getting arrested, tying in traits and feats acquired.Start with zero items/gear/components.
11.Actions- have your characters define their actions each round with OOC text for swift, move, and standard/full round actions.
12.Please post your characters in this thread. I will select the five characters hopefully on Sunday and start on Monday.
13. Many thanks.

Guilty. You are a lawbreaker – the worst of the worst. Too dangerous to live amongst the good people of Talingarde, they dragged you in chains before a magistrate and condemned you. They sent you to the worst prison in the land and there they forever marked you. They held you down and branded you with a runic F. You are forsaken.
You won’t be at Branderscar Prison for long. Branderscar is only a holding pen. In three days – justice comes. In three days –everything ends. What a pity. If only there was a way out of this stinking rat-hole. If only there was a way to escape. If only…
No. No one has ever escaped from Branderscar Prison. This is where your story ends...

Shadow Lodge

Hmm core only for second half....
Well that junks one of my concepts (alchemest (vivisectionist)/machinesmith (a third party class))
I'm assuming antipaladin counts as paladin for the purpose of being gestalt
So oracle (bones, black blooded)/antipaladin (lord of darkness)

Shadow Lodge

Also, Can we do the focus/forbile rolling method presented in the book?

interested as mentioned. will put up idea later. :)

currently. kitsune rogue/bard...

@Lord Foul II- no. To make things different for folks who may have played this before and to explain the gestalt, I have come up with a way to improve the characters at first level.

Im going to submit a character i have in another recruitment. If chosen for both... well. Double chances to have her personality grow

Lillith

Lillith is a beautiful looking female, agile, lithe, everything a man could want with his eyes. And more. Long red hair, green eyes, pale, soft skin.
But in her heart, in her core, she is twisted, arrogant, destructive and sadistic. To build a person up, just watch the fall. Knowing that she was the one who did it, and there is nothing they can do to stop it.
She has power, over martial and magic, the blood of devils run through her. Their magic fuels her ever growing lust for power. Her magic to influence and corrupt the minds of those lesser than her. Of those she sees only as tools and play things. Her martial skills are not far behind, quick with a blade, always ready to fight if her words fail to deliver the desired result.
This led her to the graveyard, to where those who failed in life end up, where those to weak to survive end up. She planned to learn of weaknesses, to learn the precise point to strike to deliver the killing blow. She learned a lot that night, till one of her targets decided to fight back. She was quickly overpowered, she felt a strong pain in her neck, the darkness
When she woke, she was on a prison, or on her way to one. She wasn’t sure, her head was still spinning, her neck felt like it was broken in more than one place, and she felt… different… more aware of that that was going on around her, even in her befuddled state. It didn’t matter now, if her mind was right, the little bit she could make out, she would not see the outside to find out what had happened to her

Hi I would like to join your game when were you planning to have the game?

I'm making my character now but it would be a bloodrager and if your doing gestalt a barbarian would be what I'd like to play

I've never done a PBP before but the chance to play a villain in Pathfinder is too good to pass up. I am interested as well.

Shadow Lodge

Rage and bloodrage doesn't stack even if both are allowed on the same character (which is not standard) just a warning
Might I make a suggestion? Rouge+Full BAB=lots of sneak attack opportunities, bloodrager+evasion and good reflex save=even better tank.

I thought rouge or ninja but theonly reason I would combine the barb is to have access to more rage powers since I was thinking of a natural attack build since I a rule I read by the developers is when you have a character with 2 claw arracks a bite or more different Nat attacks with improved unarmed attack feat the can use all the attacks in one round ie if you have a character with a bite two claws and the feet improved unarmed attack that would give him 5atacks at lvl one bite 2 claws 2 kicks(or elbows, kness) with 5 attacks at lvl 1 sorry for the rambling

The target takes a –2 penalty on one of the following (bouda’s choice): AC, ability checks, attack rolls, saving throws, or skill checks. The hex lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3 + the bouda’s Intelligence modifier. A successful Will saving throw reduces the duration of the hex to 1 round. Once per day when the bouda uses this hex, she can impose two different penalties on the target instead of just one. If the bouda takes the evil eye hex, it increases the number of different penalties she can impose on the hex’s target by 1.
*Fetish: A bouda keeps a small fetish: sometimes a carved idol, other times a necklace adorned with teeth or bones. A bouda’s spells come from the will of evil spirits residing in the fetish, and its ability to hold spells functions in a manner identical to the way a witch’s spells are granted by her familiar. The bouda must commune with her fetish each day to prepare her spells and can only prepare spells stored in the fetish.
* Prehensile Hair (Su):Strength score equal to her Intelligence score. Her hair has reach 10 feet, and she can use it as a secondary natural attack that deals 1d3 points of damage (1d2 for a Small witch). Her hair can manipulate objects (but not weapons) as dexterously as a human hand.

Annak was born in Ustalavic from the union of a human father and a female hellspawn. Her father, a once proud soldier, fled their homes after her mother was discovered to be a devil. Spending years as a mercenary caring for the child Annak, her father finally came to The Kingdom of Talingarde living in a remote part of the Kingdom as a shire reeve to a small farming community. Annak grew up learning dark powers inherited from her mother and from a hedge witch who lived nearby. Her father was killed when bandits raided their community but he managed to hide her. Annak was now left alone in the world and was forced to eek out a living in the wilderness by herself communing with dark spirits and practicing her hex magiks. Eventually she travelled near Branderscar and saw the same bandits raiding another small village. Determined to extract revenge she came to the villagers rescue and leapt on a horse to pursue the fleeing bandits but was mistaken for a bandit herself and was captured for attempted theft of the horse and the villages treasury. Beaten by the villagers Annak became bitter at the laws and government of the lands and found a new enemy in her life. After a week of judicial questioning by the local authorities Annak was found guilty of High Theft solely because she was an outsider and different. She was then delivered to Branderscar Prison for sentencing.

Shadow Lodge

In that case you could try mutagenic fighter, they can get claw type discoveries, and alchemical bonuses to strength stack with a moral bonus.

I have a few questions :)

1. Do you accept multi-classing in gestalt?
2. For the 2nd gestalt class, I understand they can only be chosen from the Core book, but since archetypes were not present in the Core Rulebook, can we still take archetypes?
3. I forgot my third question, I'll ask it when I remember >.<

Thanks for your time

1. Yes. Say you select slayer for your first class and then fighter for your gestalt class. when you level to 2 if you want to select shaman in lieu of slayer for your primary class and then select sorcerer for your gestalt class in lieu of fighter you can do that. gestalt can only multi with other core.
2. archetypes are allowed.
3. i will be ready to answer it when you are ready.

Shadow Lodge

Do alternate classes count as their original class for the purpose of being core (ninja counting as rogue, antipaladin counting as paladin)

3. Do Prestige Classes count as Core Classes?

4. What kind of posting regularity are you looking for?

3. Prestige classes count as either class once qualified.
4. Barring real life events prob once a day. I understand reality plays a part as does my significant others attentions.

5.anti paladins would be LE. Ninjas equal rogues.

I have so many ideas, but lots of them have cons. I'll post my ideas tomorrow, and then we can see what won't work.

Liberty's Edge

I'm very much down. I've run WotW before, but I've been itching to PLAY. I'm very good at separating player knowledge and character knowledge, and I tend to heavily modify stuff anyway, so what I remember from more than a year ago likely won't be anything terribly useful anyway.

I'm also a compulsive character creator, so I'm flexible on what roles I can fill.

Shadow Lodge

After I fix skills, wade will be ready, dropped back down to lvl 1 from level 3

a little bit about wade:

Wade willhelm is 6ft 2 red eyed, gold haired aasimar with somewhat pale skin, and grey feathered wings. he has rippling muscles from his profession as a blacksmith and well groomed facial hair that rings around his mouth
Wade Wilhelm was an upper middle class Aasimar blacksmith and merchant, he made and sold blades and armor along with a few alchemical trinkets, and had many customers, due in part to his celestial heritage
all in all many would have been comfortable with his life
but
Wade Willhelm has never been a person who could stand to be content, always he was looking to improve himself and his work, one day he found an old book detailing ways to use dark necrotic rituals to strengthen the blades and himself, he preformed a few of the preliminary rituals
that's when he started to hear the whisperings...
voices of the deceased telling him things that no one else could hear
things he himself could barely hear
he delved deeper into them preforming rituals, stealing from graves, whatever he could do to further his abilities
at last he began to know true power, the power over life and death, power over shadows.
the spirits imparted upon him magical power
inevitably however the pale road lead him into troubles with the authorities as they caught him in the act, coming back from steeling bones from their resting place
and so here he is
awaiting his death
will he too become one of the whispers for the next fool to find books he should not
or shall he escape and make them rue the day they sought to punish Wade Willhelm!

Here are my ideas. If picked, I'd like to be an asset to the party, so taking the same class as someone else isn't preferable.

Ideas:

1. Brawler (Strangler) / Barbarian (Feral Gnasher): A crazy Goblin who goes around biting everything.*

2. Oracle / Barbarian: A Half-Orc who uses the spirits of his ancestors to aid him in battle (Spirit Totem, Ancestor Mystery).

3. Druid / Barbarian: Focusing on Wild-Shape.

4. Slayer (Stygian Slayer) / Sorcerer (Wildblooded) / Shadowdancer: A Fetchling who hides in his magical shadows to slay his foes.*

5. Skald (War Drummer) / Anti-Paladin: A Half-Orc who utilizes fear to paralyze his enemies.*

6. Cavalier / Fighter: An idea, but I don't see it being an evil character.

7. Warpriest (Forgemaster) / Wizard: A forger who makes constructs to help him fight.

8. Bloodrager (Rageshaper) / Fighter (Unarmed Fighter) / Dragon Disciple: A Suli who likes to set things on fire and use his claws for melee.*

I am marking my favorite ideas with a *. I'd like to wait and see what other people want to play, that will narrow down my choices. I see barbarian, sorcerer and oracle has already been mentioned a few times.

so far it appears we have on the list:
*Seth86 with Lillith, Human Female Sorcerer, with the intent to gestalt into a fighter or barbarian based on the stats.
*grenny72 with Annark Malvari, Tiefling Female Witch, with the intent to gestalt into a rogue or monk...?
*Lord Foul II with Wade Willhelm v2, Aasimar Male Alchemist with rippling muscles(?). Nice background as well. Another grave robber.
*Orodhen with a long list and any of them would be nice.
*VikingIrishman
*Riuk
seems debuffing and arcane are covered. divine, tank and skills are still available (depending on what Wade starts as).

if you six finish fleshing out your characters for this I will start with you six. We could even start earlier than Monday.

What would you still like from me?
and i hope for dex fighter as my gestalt. Spring attack is my aim. Short term aim

Shadow Lodge

No he's not an alchemist, he's an oracle, I intend for him to later be an antipaladin as well, he just happens to have craft (alchemy)
So he's divine/party face, and later melee

Grand Lodge

I actually came up with a concept for a Kobold Monk recently, who dual archetypes Maneuver Master and Monk of the Four Winds. He challenges his draconic heritage through his fists, rather than his breath like his brethren, and focuses on pulling off as many dirty tricks maneuvers as possible.

And thus began a long and illustrious career of punching enemies in the nuts.

Would a kobold be acceptable for the campaign, though?

Shadow Lodge

I suggest getting a hat of disguise ASAP, so you can pretend to be a halfling or gnome, I love monk of the four winds, what's your second class? Hmm wisdom focus.. Draconic emphasis... Dragon shaman Druid?
trapper rouge or spelless ranger would also be thematic and fairly powerful.
I mean, sneak attack flurry of blows
Or favored enemy flurry.
Both of those would work flavorfuly as the extra damage being punched in the nads would do
I will point out that kobalds as a race are really sub par, yes it's about what's fun, I just don't want you to feel you're a liability, because then you likely won't have fun, I'm just trying to help.

His smuggler owner cut him loose to avoid the guard investigating him.

Having no place to go, he holed up in the slums until the city guard came looking for him. He managed to kill two guards before they overwhelmed him and clapped him in irons. Now, chained to the wall, he plans his escape.

was thinking something like an archer, either monk, fighter or rogue. party looks like it may need some ranged

I could roll with my Slayer / Sorcerer / Shadowdancer for a sneaky character. But that would mean taking into account areas of differing lighting (bright, normal, dim, etc). Could also make a sneaky-ish ranged combatant that throws stuff (chakrams maybe).

Liberty's Edge

Oh yeah, was thinking of gestalting to Barbarian.

i would suggest zen archer, unless we don't have a trap guy, in which case I would say rogue.

A dungeon rover is an interesting archetype for a ranger, if you want to go that route

Backstory
--------------------
At birth Bracnos was hated by his small clan for the story of how his family was tainted with the blood of devils. He lived with being shunned and forced to live on the out skirts of his tribe only having his mother to love him. one day as he returning home form the hunting he saw his mother being held down as a group of men form the village beat her, he ran up begging them to stop they screamed there is the demon spawn that is cursing our village. they bound him and took Bracnos to the village square as the whole town looked on he was berated and beat his mother looking on crying. they branded his head with the mark of demon, and right before they were going to kill him the villagers slit his mothers throat in front of him and as the blood covered his face the branding on his head burned. Once he opened his eyes again 5 men lay dead before him and the guard had bracnos on the floor as he was dragged to prison. He now is there planing how he will make the rest of his clan suffer for his pain, for now he will become the demon they fear.

So it seems these are the prisoners:
*Lillith= Human female sorceress convicted of Grave Robbery. (Seth86)
*Annark Malvari= Tiefling female witch convicted of High Theft.(grenny72)
*Wade Willhelm= Aasimar male Oracle convicted of Grave Robbery.(Lord Foul II)
*Graz'ul= male Half Orc Brawler convicted of Murder. (VikingIrishman)
*Brancus= male Half Orc Bloodrager convicted of Heresy...? (also I think you meant his INT was 9 or 8, not 0). (Ruik)
*Orodhen I think the Druid/Barbarian mix would be good to round out. the current sorcerer, witch, bloodrager is enough arcane. plus some others suggested being thieving types as a gestalt. what say you?

so far it appears we have on the list:

*Seth86 with Lillith, Human Female Sorcerer, with the intent to gestalt into a fighter or barbarian based on the stats.
*grenny72 with Annark Malvari, Tiefling Female Witch, with the intent to gestalt into a rogue or monk...?
*Lord Foul II with Wade Willhelm v2, Aasimar Male Oracle with rippling muscles. Nice background as well. Another grave robber.
*Orodhen with a long list and any of them would be nice.
*VikingIrishman with Graz'ul, Half Orc Brawler, not sure what he would gestalt to, rogue...?
*Riuk or Captain Ford for the last spot, whoever gets someone ready first.

seems debuffing, divine, tank and arcane are covered. anything else would be good as well, although someone that can assist in sneakiness is not present at the moment...

i have this guy ready i can add rouge as my gestalt class with no issue.
