Hmm, the traits are indeed limiting. Not to mention that I was never a fun of once-per-day-reroll abilities. But I have faith in DM VoV to take care of this little snag, plus once Mythic Adventures is available it should help with the source of mythic power and the mythic paths.
On an unrelated note, is anyone else looking at all of the applications and trying to see what possible combinations could be picked that include their own character (or am I the only one, hehe). I know it's a long shot that I'll get picked with all of the awesome submissions, but you gotta keep hope alive, right? ;-)
Nope, you are not the only one doing that. :-)

I'm guessing everyone selected is going to need one of the traits (reflavored or not), since they've said they are going to have specific effects throughout the whole campaign.
I'm curious to see how our great leader VoV is going to handle this since we've already all completed backgrounds.
Well, the problem is that the "flavor" of the traits can't really be reworked without completely invalidating the reason for forcing someone to take them in the first place - they "trigger" special encounters in the AP that are tied strongly to that particular background, apparently to the extent that, for example, you can't even readily have two characters "Touched by Divinity" who worship different gods and have it work out.

Won't have a chance to look through the Players Guide in detail until later... but you'll note that nothing in my first post stated that a campaign trait was required. I've not really been impressed by the fluff of the campaign traits for three or four APs now.
Further discussion will be had with those selected - but my knee-jerk feeling is to use the Channel Divinity freebie trait as the basis for the mysterious bonuses that are implied.
In short - no changes needed at this time.

Heh... At least the Riftwarden Orphan trait does exactly what Focused Mind does (+2 trait bonus on concentration checks) and leads to the Archmage mythic path. Although how one could change the fluff and reflavor it, or any of them for that matter, I am not sure.
Edit: And there we have it, in the voice of one without one.

Oh, a bit of a clarification about my submission.
I did not include an answer regarding the Channel Divinity trait not because I missed it, but because I do not see my character as actively venerating a particular deity enough to be eligible for it. That does not mean he does not believe in and respect the gods and other associated powers; as an arcane spellcaster and an elf, he does see Nethys and Yuelral and, perhaps to a lesser extent, Desna as inspiration, even though he does not all that actively worship them or feel tied down by their respective dogmas. He tends to depend more on his own martial and arcane abilities and skills rather than the divine.

Hm. While I didn't have quite the same negative reaction to the campaign traits as some, they do seem a tad constraining for a bunch of characters made without knowledge of said traits. =P It's probably a good thing VoV isn't going to be requiring them, although I personally would easily see Tip fit into the mold of the Exposed to Awfulness bit without batting an eye, or Child of the Crusade with a minor tweak or two.

You were right about the campaign traits, not so exciting.
Riftwarden Orphan though, almost connects with Fomiel. His dagger rather than birthmark is a legacy of a single parent rather than two, and grants him influence over outsiders rather than a concentration bonus (influence makes more sense). I would have a hard time seeing Fomiel connect with anything but the Archmage mystic path. The path to redemption allows Fomiel to aspire to be CG if he wrestles with inner and outer demons.

Well, here Adam Daigle said
Quote:People don't have to take the campaign traits, it just works better if they do.
OTOH, it's easy to read the Player's Guide text:
The Adventure Path assumes that every character in the campaign has one of the following campaign traits....In a way, you can consider the selection of your campaign trait as also selecting your character's mythic destiny!
and conclude that you have to take a campaign trait.

... Except that our DM has spoken and (at least for his campaign) we don't need them to have an eventual mythic destiny.

True. But, he doesn't have the AP in hand, yet. And there's this:
As a special note, each of the following campaign traits ties into a specific encounter or plot development in the Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path
It may not be significant... or it may. These are definitely the most railroad-y traits I've seen in any player's guide, so far.

Note that the quote from Daigle is his answer to someone complaining about the strictness of exactly that "have to take it" part of the Players Guide. It thus stands to assume that it wont be a problem.
But we should probably not spam the whole recruitment thread with this discussion/guessing game. I'm sure VotV will be able to work something out with those selected.

Given that the time given has passed, and mind has been resolutely made after a preponderance of pondering, I can announce that the selected six are:
- Meowzebub - Nessa Glenbrook - Halfling Fighter (Unbreakable) of Chaldira Zozaristan
- Mark Thomas 66 - Gregori - Paladin (Warrior of Light) of Ragathiel
- mbauers - Theodric Abernathy - Wizard (Abjurer) of Irori
- Bombadil - Aarol Varien - Half Elf Rogue (Rake) of Desna
- Harrol the Pilgrim - Halfling Cleric of Iomedae
- Joana - Eudocia Fairday - Human (Taldan) Bard (Archaeologist) of Soralyon
Could those un/lucky few please sound off on the Discussion thread that has now or imminently shall be opened. Accessible via the campaign header bar.
To those that have not been selected, I freely offer you my thanks and praise. All of you did a lot of work to put together applications to the letter of and in the spirit of how I plan to run the campaigns. Selection was particularly difficult as you might imagine… and towards the end I was looking at a pile roughly twice the number of slots available and scratching my head.
Taking 6 of 38-ish applicants, it leaves me rejecting 84% of the applications purely on a numbers game. I hope that no-one who didn't make the cut tomorrow feels as though they have failed in any way. There were no truly 'bad' applications to the game... and if you ever find yourself on the other side of the screen you'll find out how arbitrary some of the decisions that you make end up being.
As a DM I generally don’t designate alternates – but I can say that I will take any replacements from the pool of original applicants to the PbP. If anyone wants directed feedback as to why they weren’t selected – please feel free to post in thread or contact me via PM and I shall fill you in via the same mode of communication.
So thanks and good luck to all, and good gaming. *salutes*

Round 8 - and I think that's the once over for everyone? If I have missed anyone, then please berate me appropriately in your choice of language.
Moving forwards I should be in a position to select at some point over the weekend, but will wait at least 24 hours from this post to allow for responses to queries to come in and be weighed.
Went into work at about the time you posted this, and about to go back in again. I'll have a post up after another twelve hours.

Well, thats surprising. I had made a list of the players I figured were going to be picked. Not a single one from my list was on there.
Edit: Sorry, that post was not intended to come off snarky, I'm just very surprised and I guess that VoV was going for a different feel then I thought. Congratulations to all of the players selected.

I had made a list as well, though I was a little luckier than you. Two of the ones in mine made it.
Ah, well...
Good luck to all those selected! Have a great game!

Just out of morbid curiosity, which of the many ways this left-field idea could fail ultimately did me in? ;)
The second reason was that I didn't really feel like exploring the Groetus angle within the party that was shaping up.
