No big plans here, just spending an evening at home doing PbP and watching people play scary games on YouTube, hehe. Never did muster up the energy to carve a pumpkin or go buy candy to hand out; maybe next year.
...well, I get to carve four pumpkins so I can compensate for you!!! Two spooky faces 'designed' by the boys, a 'Happy Halloween' carving and, the piece de resistance, an arched cat against a moon - next year, four simple faces!!!

Sorry for disappearing! Life has been a bit of a roller-coaster these past few weeks.
My wife and I spent our Halloween helping out a friend at her place. Our friend got banged up pretty badly in a bicycle accident last week (several broken bones, including her wrist and her femur), and has been having a tough time getting around. She lives in the section of town that gets hundreds of trick-or-treaters (unlike us), so we handed out candy to the hordes. We estimated that we got at least 400 trick-or-treaters at her door!
Once we ran out of candy, we decided to watch the horror-comedy flick John Dies at the End on Hulu. What a weird movie.

So folks, I thought maybe you might be interested in this horrible little tale that I'd like to tell. Your untrustworthy storyteller stands at the doorway, keys jangling at his belt and bids you to sit by the remnants of his fire...With a twitching brow and a faraway gaze, he wants to tell you about the Blight...

Joanna Whitehall |

Wow, I hope they're okay now and recovering well.
Also, characters are bubbling in the back of my mind. This one isn't going to be as nice as Tella was.

Joanna Whitehall |

Poor Teldon, a pragmatic scholar surrounded by women who believe in honor and mercy over reason.
...
Well, honor at least. I don't know how merciful Shadlah is, really.

Teldon Moore |

LOL!
It's a lot less uncomfortable now that he has a special connection with one of them... though all the explicit images he was subject to the last couple days have ratcheted the awkward back up a notch or two.

Joanna Whitehall |

Oh, I think things are about to get really awkward between Teldon and Joanna.

Joanna Whitehall |

You're right, I should say that things are about to get really awkward between Bri, Teldon, and Joanna, though that may be fast becoming a "When isn't that the case?" itself.
Now if I was a hack romance writer, I'd be working out how to shoehorn a love-triangle in there.
Speaking of which, I found this channel recently. Hope you enjoy.

Joanna Whitehall |

The vids are about 5 min. or less. Hope you enjoy them. I have a new book to read because of him. (Well, he did right it, but it sounded interesting enough and was only $3 for the kindle version.)
Hmm. Well, I can see it, but I don't think it's like that. It's more like they're almost too similar in different ways. Both Jo and Teldon are principled, determined, and care deeply. Where the sparks fly is Teldon's pragmatism versus Joanna's idealism. I find it funny that out of the six characters, it's the one with the happy background that's one of the most distrustful and the most idealistic one is one of the ones with the most reason to be distrustful.
Anyway, back to the discussion at hand.
I'm almost salivating at the thought of what's going to come after this combat as a writer. We've got some heavy, meaty stuff going on and I honestly with Arsith's, Shadlah's, and Ziomarra's players could post more since I feel bad about them getting left out. It really is feeling like Teldon, Briana, and Joanna are the main protagonists in this story and I think that's mainly because we post more, so we have more opportunities to develop our characters more. Boy howdy are we going to be getting some mileage out of this. Depending on how things go Joanna may not be talking to anyone, to breaking down, to just suffering a Heroic BSOD.
I will say this, Joanna may finally get to have a conversation with Briana that I've been waiting for months for. I hope that it'll be worth the time and that it'll help reveal a little more about Joanna and her motivations.

Teldon Moore |

I don’t think of Teldon as distrustful... he is intensely pragmatic though. That’s partly because he values reason dramatically more than emotion (which is related to how much he has struggled to process emotions, especially while growing up), and partly because he was taught (by his father) to use his mind as a weapon in combat. His father was very strong and very skilled at fighting, but still valued good tactics, so when Teldon wasn’t as strong and didn’t take as naturally to combat techniques his father really stressed the importance of out-thinking his opponents to gain tactical advantages.

Arsith D' Abariane |

I do have a rough spot at work since the last few weeks, as one of my co worker is seriously ill (need open heart surgery) and I only had someone to help me with the increased workload since yesterday, so I hope to be able to post more in the following weeks/months.

Briana Kaddren |
I hope your coworker recovers soon, Arsith!
@Jo - Yeah, that's why I said if you squint, hehe. I was referencing the trope that if you have two people who fight all the time, it's obviously because they've secretly (and unconsciously) got the hots for each other - which is also highly unlikely to be the case here for reasons that you and Teldon both have already explained :)
As far as posting rates and story participation and stuff like that go, hopefully things will improve for folks and everyone will be able to start posting a little more like we used to back when the game first started. While my own posting here has probably slowed down a little due to juggling several other games, I do try to post here often because it's still my favorite game and posting is fun even if the subject matter isn't fun for Briana sometimes. I know I certainly don't want to/mean to hog any spotlight from anyone else, though!

GM Zed |

Yeah, that sounds like a rough situation there Arsith... hopefully they'll make a full recovery and, in the meantime, you get decent support and help with your workload.
And, if there is anything I can do as your GM to help with the posting rate (which isn't too bad really!!!) then let me know - from my perspective I hope I'm still keeping to a post a day for you folks... and I'm rather excited about moving on in to the Lady's Light with you folks...

Joanna Whitehall |

@Arsith: Oh man. I hope that everything goes well for your coworker. That's some scary stuff.
Now, time to get back to writing up Joanna's post.

Joanna Whitehall |

Poor Jo. I do put her through a lot. Between her worries about her sisters, what's going on in this dungeon, and trying to follow the advice of everyone else and putting aside her tendency to extend mercy to her enemies, the poor girl is about to have a breakdown.

Shadlah Broken-Earth |

I'm going to be honest: I'm struggling here. I have some issues with feeling as though I can't fit into this party with the character I've made, particularly when all this heavy RP keeps happening, and threads I try to pursue get abandoned. I live on the opposite side of the world to our "main protagonists", so flurries of posting inevitably leave me out. I feel at times like I'm bashing my head against the wall, and another, more personal issue has been highlighted since I began playing that's causing me a lot of frustration, that's mostly on me (I'm getting a lot of reminders of what I used to be when I was at the lowest point of my life, and it hurts).
I'm trying to keep up with it, but when my internet goes dicky in the heat for a few days, my arm goes heavy and useless for a week, and I get back to huge amounts of posting that I can't focus on enough to read through, it's hard.

Teldon Moore |

Shadlah- what can we do to help? I think I speak for all of us when I say that we'd love for you to feel more a part of things; how can we do a better job of making that happen?

Sorry to hear you are struggling... if there is anything that I can do as a GM, please PM me or whatever - from my side, I am UK based so I tend be outside of the hours when the bulk majority of the players are posting - having said that, it is a different dynamic from GM to player than it is player to player... we are, I hope about to step back into exploring the dungeons... and very quickly on from the moral quandaries posed by the Grey Maidens being here to more clearcut dungeoneering.

Briana Kaddren |
My offer is the same as Teldon and Zed's - what can we do to help make the game more fun for YOU? If any of the heavy stuff is causing personal distress (or is even just really boring) then please please please let us know so we can adjust to make things more comfortable for you. I really can't imagine there being any hurt feelings on our part, so please don't worry about that!

Ziomarra Callinovo |

Same here, Shadlah! Let us know what we can do to make things better for you and your character.
As for me: Life's been weird for the past few weeks, and my posting rate has really suffered for it. I think things have opened up a bit, and I'll be able to post with more frequency. Thanks for putting up with my frequent absences!

Teldon Moore |

What all are we waiting on to move on? I was waiting for Zee to toss around some healing, but we could probably just roll the wand charges ourselves instead of waiting for her to do it... is there anything else anyone wants to say/do before i try to lure out two more?

Joanna Whitehall |

I'm ready to push ahead. Joanna's just not being herself at the moment and is trying not to do anything that looks like she's taking charge and being deferential to Briana and Teldon.

Checking in for the evening; I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there. My trip with my parents was nice. There was shopping, and eating, and shopping for things to eat (heh). I did come home with a few things I actually needed though, such as new shoes and scrubs for work. All in all, another successful trip and I'm already looking forward to next year's :)

Hey, folks.
The US holiday of Thanksgiving is this week. I'm heading out tomorrow after work to spend several days at my in-laws' place. The wireless coverage from my carrier isn't great in their town, and I don't know the status of their wifi. Even if there is reliable service, I'm not sure what my posting schedule is going to be.
Long story short: I expect to be able to post tomorrow, but I'm not sure about my posting rate after that until next Monday (11/27).
(Not that it's been good at all lately...)

Teldon Moore |

This year, for the first time, my wife and I are having our family over to our house for Thanksgiving (my parents, her mom and step-dad; my grandma; a couple of our siblings and their SOs) and I'm making a ton of food... partly because I'm the kind of person that always feels like there needs to be leftovers or I've failed as a host, and partly because my wife and her mother can't have gluten, and my sister is vegan, so I have to make 2 or 3 versions of some of the dishes.
I love to cook, and am mostly looking forward to it, but I may be slow to post Wed&Thur too!

Teldon Moore |

Hahaha- I’m not sure where you would all sleep, but i promise you’d all be fed if you show up! Actually... I’m not sure where you’d all sit to eat... maybe sit on the floor—picnic style—to eat?

Joanna Whitehall |

Not sure if I can drive in those frozen yankee states. :P

Teldon Moore |

Happy Thanksgiving/Thursday!
After all the talk about crashing the festivities at my place I thought I’d share the dinner menu with you all: roast turkey, deep fried turkey, 3 kinds of stuffing/dressing (normal, gluten-free, and vegan), 2 kinds of mashed potatoes (regular/vegan), 2 kinds of green bean casserole (gluten-free and vegan), 2 kinds of gravy (gluten-free and vegan), Mac and cheese with bacon, curried squash soup, roasted root vegetables, candied sweet potatoes with pecans, roast beef, grilled shrimp, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, and a green salad. Oh, and crudités.
