Their tenets include the following adages. Personality:

Background:
Josephina Annabella Whitehall is the second child of Lord and Lady Whitehall. Nearly a decade younger than her elder brother, she's often mistaken for the youngest child by those that do not know the family well thanks to her small stature and youthful features. Growing up, she and her younger siblings would play with other children from friends of the family and the manor's servants or sit and listen to the stories that her mother, father, and unofficial uncles, Titus and Darius, had collected over the years. All in all, it was a happy childhod. As she came closer to being of age, Joanna discovered that she had a knack for magic, a knack that was honed by her mother and Uncle Titus, along with her love of painting, drawing, and music. She and her younger sisters often composed silly songs based on the stories that she and her best friend, Tera, would come up with, a favorite being a song about the Pumpkin King, a goblin that had his head lopped off and replaced with a pumpkin after he was caught forcing other goblins to read and eating the books, before eating the goblins for good measure. Sadly, this is also when tragedy almost struck. While Joanna's mother and father were attending an opera with some business contacts that had come into town, a group of second-story men tried to kidnap the younger Whitehall children for ransom. Titus and Darius, old friends and skilled fighters, killed some of them and sent the others flying in full retreat, but the close call lead to all four of them learning how to defend themselves with various weapons. A year later, Joanna would learn that a close cousin of hers, Sara Deverin, had lost her mother in the fire that claimed the old chapel and several lives. Wanting to be there for her cousin, Joanna spent several months in Sandpoint, and would visit ever three to four months after that. It was around this time that she also learned how cruel her peers could be, when at Diamonda Scarnetti's coming out ball and again at her own, Joanna became the butt of many jokes about her figure, her stature, and anything at all about her appearance Diamonda could find fault with. While she tried to brush them off, Joanna wasn't impervious to the vicious mockery of her peers, and found herself dreading any ball or party where Diamonda or her cronies would be in attendence. It stopped, however, when her best friend Tera Flinders along with her younger sisters pulled an embarrassing prank on them. Even after a couple of years, Joanna has never gotten the full story of how they managed to pull it off, but the mockery abated in the aftermath of that gloriously embarrassing night for Diamonda. As this year's Swallowtail Festival drew near, Joanna and Tera had made plans to go. However, Tera's sister gave birth a few days before they were to leave, and Tera apologized profusely as she told Joanna that she needed to stay and help take care of her older sister and her newly born niece. So, her mood dampened, Joanna set off to Sandpoint with Darius as her bodyguard, the only condition her parents had agreed to let Joanna make the trip under after reports of a group of brigands attacking a Varisian caravan recently.
The House of Whitehall:
The House of Whitehall can trace it's line back to the glory days of Taldor, but the family's rise to relative prominence did not happen until the founding of Magnimar. The head of the family used what wealth was left from leaving Korvosa and Cheliax behind to found the Whitehall Mercantile Company and commission the first ships to sail under Magnimar's flag. Since that day, the Whitehall Mercantile Company has steadily grown along with the family's influence. Branch offices of the company can be found in several cities throughout the Inner Sea, from Kalsgard to Oppara and including Absolom. The Whitehalls are known for their fair deals that enrich all parties and their strong sense of morals. Far from being self-righteous, the elders of the House of Whitehall try to instill a sense of humility and noblesse oblige in the scions of the house. While they succeed most of the time, there have been a few individuals who sought to use their privilege for their own selfish aims. Their stories did not end happily, and their tales are passed down as cautionary warnings. The Whitehalls have good relations with several of the families in Magnimar and Sandpoint, especially the Deverins and Valdemars, both of whom have intermarried with the Whitehalls. The Whitehalls are also on good terms with the Flinders, who, while they have no titles of their own, have a good deal of influence thanks to their own successful enterprises in trade. There is a low grade fued between the Whitehalls on one hand and the Scarnettis and the Teccirosas on the other after their attempt to arrange a marriage between the current Lord Whitehall, Joanna's father, and Lady Narcissia Teccirosa fell through when instead he married a common-born priestess of Shelyn.
Notable NPCs and Relationships:
Family Lord Joseph Albus Whitehall (Aristorcrat/Fighter) Joseph, now Lord Whitehall, was born close to fifty years ago. In his youth he spent a lot of his time traveling with the caravans or sailing on one of the Whitehall Mercantile Company's ships. It was during one of these trips that he met Titus, who became his best friend, and Anna Bell, who became his wife. Older and with more responsibilities after his father's passing, Joseph often looks back on those days wistfully, but has no desire to trade the family he and Anna have raised for a return to those days. A patron of the arts and a philanthropist at heart, Joseph has looked to Magnimar's poorer districts to help fulfill his company's needs while also looking for those with skill in and a desire to learn the arts to sponsor. Thanks to his and his wife's efforts, several artists, craftsmen, and musicians that would have otherwise languished in poverty have had a chance to better their lives and the lives of their families. Lady Anna Whitehall (Cleric)
A kindly woman with a wicked sense of humor and a sharp wit, Anna has helped Joseph see opportunities that he might have missed with his upbringing and has been far more active in rearing her children than other woman of her station. Despite her lowly birth, many of the noblewomen in Magnimar have learned to be wary of crossing words with her. The fact that Lady Whitehall cares not one wit what they think of her only makes it worse in their eyes. While she is close to fifty than to forty, she is still regarded as one of the most beautiful women in Magnimar, something that makes her detractors seethe with jealousy. Siblings
Victoria Diane and Valory Luna Whitehall Twins only a year younger than Joanna. Clever and charming, they have a mischievous streak a mile wide. While not malicious, they do have a tendency to take their pranks too far. Lucias Dominic Whitehall The youngest of the Whitehall children, Lucias is a quiet young man who spends his free time studying or writing. While his mind is sharp, he can be a bit dense when it comes to working with other people, though his good manners and natural charm go a long way to offsetting any rancor his occassional faux pas may engender. Friends
Titus Cailean (Cleric/Fighter/Rogue)
That may have been the case if it were not a chance encounter with an elderly priestess of Shelyn. When he broke into her house with the intent of robbing her, he was offered some pastries and tea. Confused, he accepted the offer and started to talk. The priestess answered his questions kindly, telling him that he was beautiful on the inside, if only he would let it show. He never returned to the gang he was with and soon became an acolyte in the church. It was as a travelling priest that he met and befriended then Lord Joseph Albus Whitehall. Always great patrons of the arts, the Whitehalls had a chapel dedicated to Shelyn that was in need of a new chaplain. Joseph offered the position to Titus after they returned to the Whitehall, and Titus accepted. He officated Joseph's wedding to Anna, and has trained each of their children in the basics of self-defense and Shelyn's faith. Titus is a irrascible fellow that loves to paint in big, bold strokes. While more traditional artists tut at his brash use of color and unrefined technique, there's no denying his style protrays an energy and character lacking in the more refined protraits of nobility that many courtly artists create. He is a loving man with a quick temper and a short way with fools. Donovan and Violet Coin (Experts)
Darius Felder (Fighter/Rogue)
Enemies
Ever since her father's and the Scarnettis' attempt to arrange a marriage between her and Joseph Albus Whitehall fell through, she's seethed and done what she could to ruin the family. As the years have passed, she's grown more desperate and has been bleeding the Teccirosa treasury in an effort to exact some revenge against the Whitehalls. Diamonda Scarnetti (Bard)
Alexander Scarnetti (Cavalier)
