The course is required for like 80% of students and he's the only one who teaches it...
The bit about automatically failing was super condescending to: he actually wrote "in my experience students who do not complete this assignment would not have been able to pass the course anyways."
Joanna Whitehall
Yeesh. Isn't this a graduate course? You'd think he'd at least give you the benefit of the doubt.
On a happier note, I hope you have a safe trip Zed! Don't worry too much about us, we'll smack your ghouls when they get around to popping up. :D
Teldon Moore
Truthfully, it'll be a much easier project than the one I just finished, it was just a slap in the face to get that in the mail today, and especially the way it was presented.
Joanna Whitehall
Well, at least there's that silver lining. How much more do you need to get your Master's?
Teldon Moore
Umm... like 40 some credit hours... it's a 93 credit hour program (and no, the credits aren't counted differently than other grad schools- it's just 3 times the length of most graduate degrees)
This coming semester will actually be the most arduous of all of them, and then I'll have 3 more relatively easy semesters.
Joanna Whitehall
Dang, that's about 30 hours shy of what I needed for my undergrad. So you've got at least another four semesters of this?
I salute you sir. I don't think I'd have the wherewithal to even start that kind of program, much less finish it.
Teldon Moore
Lol, I'm a glutton for punishment... as an undergrad I tried literally10 different majors at 4 different colleges/universities, and amassed over 200 credit hours before earning my bachelors degree (I do have an associates too). By the time I finish my masters I'll have over 300 credit hours. I'm going to take some time off after that but I may go for a doctorate eventually... at this point I'll already have so many credits it would almost be a shame not to get it...
Briana Kaddren
Wow. That's like, Professional Student territory right there!
Oh, by the way...I seem to has a cat now. She's been hanging around our apartment building since before my trip to DieCon (so...2 months at least) and I slowly failed my Will save and started actually paying attention to her...then putting out water because the temperature was routinely 85+ during the day...then finally putting out food for her. She's quite friendly and clearly belonged to someone because she has an old flea collar on; I'm not sure if someone dumped her out near our building or if she belongs/belonged to someone in the neighborhood and they just stopped feeding her.
No idea how old she is, what sort of health she's in, or if she's been spayed. Guess I'll probably try to take her in to the vet soon to get her checked out. But first, I suppose I need a better name for her than 'cat'. Any suggestions?
(And I already considered Rowenna but she doesn't really strike me as being a Rowenna, if that makes sense :P)
Joanna Whitehall
So, just a few names that I thought of.
-Milkshake (the black and white pattern kinda reminds me of a cow)
-Minas Tirith (The white part of her face looks like a silhouette of the city from LOTR)
-Oreo
-Isolde
-Meilikki (Finnish goddess of the forest.)
-Cinema Noir (Black and white)
-Cocoa, White Chocolate, Cookie, Cream Puff (Trying to get the food related names out of the way.)
-Misty
-Name her after a valkyrie. It looks like she's been in a fight and got a scar on her nose.
-Viggen
-Duchess (Short for some ridiculous name. :P)
And that's about all I've got.
On another note, who's going to be seeing the eclipse Monday?
Briana Kaddren
Lol @ Nate - If I ever wind up with a male cat I might just do that; I already give my electronics and cars amusing names so why not my pets?
@Adam - Thanks for the ideas! I especially liked the valkyrie idea, though that scar is actually only a few days old. No idea where she got it, just went out one morning and she was bleeding so it was really fresh. Might've been another stray cat.
As far as the eclipse goes, I was *going* to watch it since I'm off work and my town lies in the path of totality...and then I forgot my times and scheduled a hair appointment during that same time frame. And I really hate to cancel since I'm in dire need of a cut/color and she's been both busy this month and recovering from being sick so I have no idea when I'd be able to get in again. SMH.
Shadlah Broken-Earth
I support Chairman Meow.
Also, I live in Australia. No eclipse for me. You bloody yanks...
Joanna Whitehall
If it's not smack in the middle of the appointment, you could invite your hairdresser to come see it too. From everything I've heard you don't want to miss it, and I'm sure she'll understand. This is literally a once in a lifetime chance.
I'm in the 90% zone, but sadly, I wasn't paying attention to the date and missed my chance to get some glasses so I could actually look at it.
I'm glad you like them. It was pretty much what popped into my head as I was looking at the picture.
Briana Kaddren
I think totality is supposed to occur roughly 1:10-1:15 pm CST for where I live and the appointment is at 1:00 pm so maybe I can talk her into waiting or taking a quick break to peek outside when it actually gets dark. I missed my window to get proper glasses too but totality is mainly what I want to see anyway.
Also thanks for the additional cat-name suggestions guys :)
Joanna Whitehall
So, one thing I try to do is be consistent with my descriptions, and unfortunately, I think I've been missing the mark. I think it's time that I actually made a list of what happens when Joanna does something so that, if nothing else, I'll have something consistent to refer back to.
Can you guys let me know if it's too over the top or if I missed something?
-Detect Evil: Eyes dimly glow a soft silver. It's a lot harder to spot if she narrows them.
-Lay on Hands: Eyes and holy symbol glow silver. Healing wounds glow white.
-Casting a spell: (Turns out, I've never really described this much.) Eyes and holy symbol glow silver. White and silver celestial runes flow around the target of the spell.
-Smite Evil: Hair turns white and silver with flames of holy fire. Eyes blaze with silver flame. Sword and armor is covered in glowing celestial runes. Runes blaze with holy fire if she's really upset with the target, leaving behind scorch marks in the shape of the runes on the metal.
-Channel Positive Energy (Harm undead): Eyes blaze with holy fire. Holy symbol shines white and silver. A sphere of swirling, ghostly flames in white and silver flares to life around Joanna.
-Channel Positive Energy (Heal Living): Eyes and Holy symbol shine white and silver. Threads of docile silver and white light swirl around Joanna in a sphere of light.
Joanna Whitehall
So, for those that ever have a chance to see a solar eclipse, take it. It's a pretty cool experience even if you aren't in the path of totality. I hope to get some pictures from a co-worker so you guys can see what we saw.
Joanna Whitehall
Made myself a pinhole camera to watch. :)
Sadly we didn't get a total eclipse where I am. We're right on the edge of the 90% zone, so there was still a sliver at peak. However, it was cool to see it look like late afternoon at midday.

By the way folks, my posting *might* be a little slower than usual for the next couple of months as PbP Gameday VI kicks off this Friday and I'll be running a PFS scenario for each session as well as playing in a few games. Since those games will be on something of a timer, I'll be giving them higher posting priority until we're done - especially the games I'll be GMing. So while there shouldn't be a true interruption of service on my end, it might be a little slower here and there :)
Shadlah Broken-Earth
Please hold for me until tomorrow. Some family drama hit and I ran out of spoons.
Shadlah Broken-Earth
Zed, I'm sorry to sound unreasonable, but I always struggle with theater of the mind-style play, especially in PBPs, especially of crunch-heavy systems like Pathfinder, and especially when I'm playing a ranged character who'd rather not eat an AoO every time I want to do something .-.
Joanna Whitehall
First, I know that some of you are in other games that I am posting/have posted this notice, some as the GM, but I want to make sure that I get everyone in these games, so apologies for spamming your campaign tab and repeating myself. Poor Lady ladile, Zed and Nate are going to be seeing this three times.
Second, the reason I am posting this is because I enjoy the roleplay and interactions have been going in these games. I love the stories that we've been telling together. I would love to GM a game with anyone of you (and I'm GMing a game with some of you already.)
So, I would like to ask if any of you would be interested in playing in a game I'm currently working on? I need player input in order to proceed and I'd love to be able to build parts of the world around your characters. You'd be part of a crack team that handles different missions that are delicate and require skill and finesse in a space setting. Think something like a cross between the A-Team and Cowboy Bebop, or just think the A-Team in space if you've never seen or heard of Cowboy Bebop.
If I haven't made a total hash out of my explanation and this sounds like something you'd be interested in (or if you'd like to play a Sci-Fi game in general) go here and dot both the gameplay and discussion threads. You can also ask me questions and collaborate on characters or parts of the world there so I'm not hijacking all the threads. I know that things are busy, but I'm not going to be starting right away, and this is a cool opportunity to work on some concepts that you might not try in PBP because they might not pass the recruitment for a game.
Joanna Whitehall
It's all good. :)
I'm not starting just yet, anyway. This is more to get going on characters and seeing who's interested.
GM Zed
Wow... Three years!!!! The characters, the interactions and the relationships are definitely what makes this game... an AP is a heck of an undertaking and everyone has risen to the challenge (and then some)...
Also, Gremlins!!! That opening scene with the box in Lady Heidmarch's manor was a real highlight at the time... not sure these fellows will give you anything like the same amount of trouble!
Teldon Moore
Congrats! I love this game. Honestly, if it wasn't for this game I probably would have completely walked away from the boards two years ago when I dropped down to just this game. Good work everyone.
Briana Kaddren
Sorry for the delay guys, came home from work last night and promptly went to bed. Posting services should hopefully be back to normal since I've got a few days off from work :)
(And seriously, it'd crossed my mind that asking about the drawing would be a good way to tell if Teldon's the real deal or not but I think it works better with him having asked the question!)

Gawrsh. Not famous, just someone that really enjoys PbP and tries to chime in when threads pop up talking about how it works or how fun it can be, hehe. Venture-Lieutenant Hmm is the celebrity but we've been playing together in games since early 2015 so I get to say that I knew her before she was famous around here :)
GM Zed
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Proud dad moment... when your nine year old moves on from banal stories about what he did on his holidays to This!!!
...might get him to take over running my games - his villains are far cooler than mine!
Joanna Whitehall
First, his handwriting is better than mine.
Second, that was a delight to read. Proud you should be! And that would make for an awesome boss fight.
GM Zed
Folks, I think it may be sensible - in the spirit of moving things along (we're about to drop into some real dungeoneering now) to flex-time the appearance of Shadlah's familiar. As a reminder, Helanda has indicated that the way onwards is through a secret door (where Shadlah was headed whilst she was ensorcelled) and that she has no desire to sit around if she can revenge herself upon the Gray Maidens...
Joanna Whitehall
Woo!
Fine with moving on.
Ziomarra Callinovo
Sorry for lack of updates, folks. Life has gotten unexpectedly busy, and I just haven't had the time. I hope to get a new gameplay post up this weekend.
Joanna Whitehall
Not really adding much beyond flavor. Also waiting for Zee to post.
