In France for a day or so longer than I planned to be... Paris is a lovely city but, when it is time to go home, it's not so much fun to be told there's no way... Anyway, all over now - a day 'recuperating' at work and finally catching up with all of my games... Hooray!!!
So, first off, thanks very much to DM Salsa for playing Sandpoint for us... Some pretty cool developments and, just for once, it ws nice to watch from the sidelines...
But, back now, and let us make haste towards the Storval Stairs and towards adventure!!!

GM Zed |

Really enjoyed how everyone has reacted / interacted with the whole Briana / Teldon development...
So, anyone checking out the Vigilante playtest? It seems intriguing (although probably a class that needs the right kind of context) although I haven't really had much time to look at it - I am hopeful that the Ultimate Intrigue book will bring in some good opportunities / systems / ideas for Urban Campaigns...
...I must say that I am rather excited about the Occult Adventures book - the fact that it is being supported by a specific module, a Campaign Setting bestiary, an 'Origins' Player Companion and a 'Realms' Setting book suggests there will be a load of really good material... Plus, I am a sucker for cool Iconics / Backstories and I've enjoyed the two so far!!!

Nalathi Estrid |

I think the Vigilante is well conceived and poorly executed. You can either play a fighter who trades his bonus feats for social skills, a rogue with fewer skill points and crappier sneak attack, a bard with no performance, or an inquisitor with no bane or solo tactics. I haven't played one, but it looks like a very cool character concept that falls flat in implementation-- but would probably make a really good NPC villain (since he can hide his alignment).

GM Zed |

And, just because it's worth spreading the word, has anyone seen this Kickstarter, The Legendary Planet Adventure Path, I've pledged for it as it looks like a bag of fun and it has some great authors!!! I've also taken the opportunity to get the Mythic Books they produced... My poor bank account!!!

Ziomarra Callinovo |

I've bee a fan of Legendary for a while. I have their Gothic Compilation and many of their Pirates campaign plug-ins. I haven't backed Legendary Planet, mainly because of money right now.
I am very excited for Occult Adventures. I've never liked how the D&D family of games handled the design space for psychic abilities. D&D psionics is rooted in mid-to-late 20th century parapsychology and science fiction tropes, and I never thought it was a good fit for a fantasy game. Not that the 3.5 rules were bad, just that I never thought the flavor was a good match for heroic fantasy. I really like what I've seen and heard so far from this book!
The Vigilante class looks intriguing, although it's very niche. I'm considering...
That said, the playtest class seems a little rough at this point. I think this playtest started from an earlier point in development than earlier tests, and the class shows it. This could be a good thing, with early feedback to really improve the design.

The GM in me wants to look at that spoiler, but the player in me doesn't want to spoil the surprise.
Why'd you do this to me? ;_;

Nalathi Estrid |

Happy Ungrateful Traitors Day to our intrepid GM ;)
Is it true that in the UK, the Revolutionary War is called the American Rebellion? I've always thought that was a much cooler name.
Also, happy Independence Day to our more American party members :-)

DM-Salsa |

Well, considering I have ancestors that fought in the American Civil War, I guess that makes me a traitor twice over. :D

My wife works as a software implementation consultant. One of her colleagues is a Brit who's been off-site working remotely. She said that the Brit told them on Wednesday that he'd run a bunch of test jobs on Friday and have the results on Monday. When it was pointed out that Friday was a holiday, he replied, "Well, Friday will be a good day to test because you Yanks will be whooping it up over throwing our tea into the harbor. Y'know, an apology would be nice..."

Joanna Whitehall |

The Philippines also have their independence day on July 4th, just sayin'.

Teldon Moore |

I'm going to be out of town July 19th-24th... I'll have my phone (which is what I usually post from anyways) but I'm honestly not sure how much signal I'll get where I'm going to be... Please feel free to bot me if necessary during that time.
Also, I'm going to be in Ireland July 25th-August 1st... I'm guessing there will be wifi in the hotels that I can use but if I go incommunicado during that window please feel free to bot me as needed.

GM Zed |

Thanks for letting us know Teldon...
All, we are now in the Feast of Ravenmoor proper - it's taken us a bit to get here but hopefully it's been fun and I have certainly taken the opportunity to sow a few seeds that hopefully link in well with the overall Shattered Star plot...
...could I ask that, whilstbwe are in Ravenmoor, we try to keep as close to daily posting as we can for the next bit of time... Although, I am sure we will all be taking some time for holidays as the warm weather arrives :)
...also, anyway attending / looking forward to Gencon? I am interested to hear what Paizo have got planned for their AP line beyond the double dose of Cheliax that we have coming...

Joanna Whitehall |

Sadly, no. Not enough funds nor vacation time.

Ziomarra Callinovo |

No cons for me either this year. I haven't actually been to a gaming con since the '90s. I'm more inclined to go to music festivals, anyway. (I'll be at the Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance near Ithaca, NY next weekend.) Alas, I'm missing Falcon Ridge this year for a business conference, but I'm planning to go to the Newport Folk Festival instead.
I am hoping to make it to Paizocon next year.
In case you're not aware of it, the Know Direction podcast recorded most of the Paizocon seminars this year, and they have been releasing them over the past severs weeks. Some have been very interesting!

Nalathi Estrid |

Yea I'm going to GenCon. Been looking forward to it for months, this'll be my fourth. Even though we won't know it, maybe I'll see you there!
As for posting, I think I'm gonna have to go on hiatus for awhile-- maybe even drop out completely. I'm in the process of buying a house for the first time (!) and it's taking up a lot of my attention. Sometimes it's several days before I can post, and while PFS games aren't too bad a story driven campaign like this one is hard to keep up with.

Joanna Whitehall |

Darn, and I was hoping to get some good RP in with you. Take care of yourself and we hope to see you again soon!

Teldon Moore |

Nooooooo...
I mean, that's cool... I'm trying to sell the first house I ever bought, so I feel your pain. Nalathi would be missed, I hope maybe you can figure out a way to make it work...

GM Zed |

Yeah, I am sure I speak for everyone here when I say we'd rather Nalathi didn't disappear but having been through the whole house buying thing (a few times now), I know where you are coming from...
...can I propose a hiatus if you do want a break? It'll be easy enough for me to slip you out of the story whilst we are in Ravenmoor (even if you are missing a bit of a treat) in such a way that you can jump back in...

Nalathi Estrid |

Sure. When things settle down again I'll check back in and see where everyone is. Feel free to write me out for the time being. (I'm guessing it'll be at least a month, the closing date is Aug 17th).

Teldon Moore |

Just a reminder- tomorrow is the day I leave for vacation... I'll be in the woods camping for a week, and then in Ireland for a week. I'll do my best to post regularly but can't make any promises (since I have no idea what my access to the Internet will be like). Please bot me as necessary.

Ziomarra Callinovo |

I'm at an outdoor music festival this weekend, but it's only 20 miles from home, so I'm day-tripping it. (Posting from my phone after an amazing show by The Family Stone!)

GM Zed |

So, looks like Giantslayer has run it's course as the AP for the first half of the year - how have people's experiences (if any) been with it? I must admit I was a little underwhelmed with everything I ever read about it and, having perused a few campaigns here, I'm still not too excited by it...
I must admit I am however looking forward to the forthcoming Hell's Rebels / Hell's Vengeance - I shall be resubscribing for those and, with the Legendary Planet Adventure Path being published through the year, that'll give me plenty of stuff to consider running!!!
Also, happy vacation to Arsith, to Teldon and to anyone else who is away in the next few weeks. I will be away for a week in mid-August and am almost certainly going to be silent for that time - not sure about internet access plus will be focussing on a nice family break...

Ziomarra Callinovo |

I'm also much more excited by Hell's Rebels (and the follow-up Hell's Vengeance) than I was for Giantslayer. I probably would not have gone out of my way to buy it, but I have an AP subscription, so I decided to take a chance on it.
I've read the first four volumes, and it's a whole lot more interesting than I had assumed it would be. Honestly, Battle of Bloodmarch Hill looks like a fantastic low-level adventure set in a very interesting town. There's a mystery and investigation, puzzles to solve, interesting enemies, a well-crafted and thoughtful moral dilemma, and a huge multi-encounter action scene that takes place during a siege of the town. That last battle is extremely cinematic, and looks like it would be a blast to run (or play).
I haven't yet run Giantslayer, but I have pulled out a few snippets to insert into my Tuesday night homebrew Golarion campain "Champions of Old Korvosa." In my campaign, the party ended up in Belkzen while chasing a heretical sect of Urgathoans, who were looking for a Thassilonian artifact associated with both the Pallid Princess and the Runelord of Greed. I pulled the town of Trunau from The Battle of Bloodmarch Hill for my game, and used it for the PCs temporary base-camp. I also cribbed a couple of encounters from The Hill Giant's Pledge, and dropped a few giant-specific magic items.
That said, I am really, really excited for Hell's Vengeance. I even dipped into my old penchant for filk songs, and went so far as to write a Chelish rebel song that I'll use in my game if I ever do run it!

Teldon Moore |

I was in a giantslayer PbP (as a dwarven divine tracker ranger/inquisitor) until RL got to be too much. What I played of it was pretty good. Like Zee said- mystery, puzzles, interesting enemies, etc.
I don't follow what's going on with APs at all (this is the first one I've played- usually another GM and I take turns building and running worlds/campaigns), but if some of this group were running another one (and RL continues to slow down as I think it will) I'd throw my hat in the ring.

Ziomarra Callinovo |

My posting rate for all of my PbPs has really slowed of late. Work got really busy, and so has my personal life. The big thing in the latter is that we're about a week away from sending our 16-year-old daughter off to India as an exchange student for a year! Lots of last-minute prep is necessary.

Teldon Moore |

Speaking of vacations... Greetings from Kilkenny Ireland and Yay for free wifi at this hotel (we're changing cities every day or two so no guarantees the rest of the week)

GM Zed |

Ziomarra - yeah, I remember you saying she got accepted to do the exchange. Best of luck with all the preparation for that - don't worry about your posting rate dropping off, we understand and, as the summer holidays take hold, I suspect we'll all be incommunicado at various times...
...and greetings to Teldon in Kilkenny, a lovely part of the world...
...now, back to watching the Legendary Planet Kickstarter and seeing if it fully funds (all adventures / all bonus articles) before tomorrow!!!

DM-Salsa |

Safe travels to all of you. Me, I'm just staying busy with work and a personal project of mine. I hope to have it ready by next year, but I'm not sure how long it's going to take me to get to the point of going live with it.

GM Zed |

For info, the Kickstarter that I previously told you folks about – the Legendary Planet Adventure Path – funded last night with a full seven adventure (with prelude) romp across the multiverse. At some point soon backers will receive the Player’s Guide and the prelude Adventure (with the following adventures coming approximately bimonthly after that) – I fully intend to run the AP on these boards and so, after spending a little time reading and reviewing the prelude, I shall launch a recruitment thread. I will be sure to post here to let you know when I have set up recruitment.
