"Where in the world is that Nalathi Estrid?"

It was the question on everyone's minds at the Estrid estate, although they had given up asking it aloud-- no one had any new information.

When Nalathi was born a tiefling, the event was heralded as a clear sign of Asmodeus's blessing-- surely an omen of great prosperity for House Estrid. Talk was made of the Estrids becoming the ninth major noble house of Kintargo, and (whispered among themselves) perhaps more beyond. Nalathi was given a noble's education, complete with the tutelage of the house's master-at-arms. When she came of age, Nalathi was sent to the church of Asmodeus to fulfill her destiny as a priestess.

Unfortunately, try as she might she simply couldn't cut it. Her spells never worked, she could never draw the sacred sigils correctly, and-- worst of all-- her prayers were never answered. Rumors spread that she was out of Asmodeus's favor, or worse, that she never had it. House Estrid returned to its place of no great renown, much to their dismay and frustration.

Finally, she received an answer one night as she prayed fervently by her bedside: Charl, a herald of the goddess Milani, appeared to her in a dream.
