Gotcha. 9 more advances. Will do. I hope to have him finished enough to start play tomorrow.

Rigor, I was just parroting DMSBM, who said something about 2 Cyber-Knights HERE. I think I've only said it once.

But now that you mention it, I don't see Psi-Warrior in the Core Player's Guide - is it from a supplemental book?

Here's me, mostly done I think. Still have a few of the initial gear credits to spend.

and this is why I continue to use SAVAGED as a database if nothing else ;)

Psi-Warrior is a MARS Framework from Arcana & Mysticism

HERO’S JOURNEY (TWO ROLLS)

Due to their very young starting age, as well as their enormous raw power, Dragon Hatchlings only gain two rolls on the Hero’s Journey Tables. They are restricted to Education, Psionics, and Training, each of which represents something imprinted on the dragon’s psyche from a parent at birth.

Right off the bat, this is different from what my copy of RIFTS The Tomorrow Legion Player’s Guide has for the Dragon Hatchling.

Mine has the exact same words, but it only allows one roll. This makes me wonder if there are two different editions or did you change what is in the book as part of the reskinning for the Cat's Eye Dragon?

Same question for some of the other changes. Where you have "Armored Hide*: The Hatchling has +16 M.D.C. Armor and +8 Toughness in dragon form," my copy grants +18 MDC Armor and +6 Toughness.

Before I go through the rest, I'll wait to learn the reason for the differences. I'd as soon stick with what My RIFTS book gives the dragon hatchling and only change the things that have the symbol for features that may change for a different type of dragon.

@Joseph- Looking good so far. Clean him up a bit (i.e. make it a bit more readable) and post it into a character and you can join the crew.

@Burgurk- I thought I remembered someone else saying they were going to be a cyberknight as well, but maybe they had changed their mind. Either way, the crew is looking good. If you guys missed it, there is a post in gameplay for the new ones to introduce themselves.

@Ounce- I will have to defer to Rigor’s material on this, but I think sticking as close to the SWADE version as possible will best serve everyone balance and gameplay wise.

Ive run into differences in versions of the Players Handbook, and have seen differences between them. In my version, it says hatchlings get 2 rolls on the Heroes Journey. My version of the Cat's Eye Hatchling is different from the Flame Wind. I think i stated what the changes were from the original. I increased the Strength and the Toughness, as the Cats Eye has more MDC and a higher PS in the palladium version. I reduced the flying speed and the flame breath, and increased the AP on the claws a touch. And I switched the Flame Aura for the Enthralling gaze power.

I'm not bothered if you want to just reflavour the Flame Wind Dragon as a lightning dragon, that is very simple. You could just change the damage type and immunity, and leave everything else the same. Easy peazy.

I never ended up using the conversion I made, so I thought I'd suggest it, but I am not bothered any way you choose to go.

Thanks. Will continue to do some cleaning. May not have much time today for it. My daughter is coming over.

This is my version of the Cat's Eye Dragon, based on my edition of the RIFTS Tomorrow Legion Player's Guide, with the aspects connected to the type of dragon changed to my vision of the Cat's Eye Dragon, which is a little different from RR's.

My version of SWADE does not have anything for the Dragon Hatchling. Let me know if Rigor Rictus' notes are based on the SWADE Dragon Hatchling or Dragon. Or if something different, let me know.

The RIFTS dragon hatchling does not gain a Flame Aura. I gave the character Magical Powers and it gets Psionic Powers, so maybe those can stand in for the Flame Aura. I could change one power to something like Mind Control for the Enthralling Gaze power.

This version of Ounce has made a few changes to correspond to having the sidekick edge with the Dragon Hatchline (See Gummitch post).

I did locate the entry in SWADE for a dragon, but that is for a full-grown one. I'll probably use the next advance or two to eliminate the Hatchling complication of being very Young, which I presume will result in gaining two attribute points and five skill points.

Removing the complication will reward you with those points, but we will need an in-story explanation as to the sudden change in age category. I think the Psi Powers are a good stand in for the Flame Aura, as that is more of a grown dragon thing and minor Psionics for a basically a cat dragon seems to fit better anyway.

I wasn’t clear on which version Rigor used for his write-up, but I thought he had updated it to SWADE at some point or said he was going to. Bottom line is you should have something similar to the Palladium version: Hypnotic Gaze, Metamorphosis, Invisibility, Minor Psionics, Teleportation, See Invisible, etc.

The version I made of the Cat's Eye Dragon Hatchling is made by taking the discription of the Flame Wind Dragon, and substituting and swapping out a few features. If you like, i can try to break down the differences between The Flame Wind and the Cat's Eye.

The original should be in the Tomorrow Legion Player's Guide.

Gummitch has invisibility and stun as magic powers. Stun seems to provide a similar outcome to the hypnotic gaze. I'm okay with the version I've created so let me know if you want to change it in any way.

I don't have the Palladium version of RIFTS. I played a character a long time ago, but only for a few sessions and I did not own the book.

Fair enough, I want to get you to the gaming, so if an issue ensues, we will deal with it then. I’m planning on doing a full rundown of all the new characters later on this weekend and see if there any other discrepancies.

Does that mean we can dot into the gameplay and begin to post in the discussion section instead? It will be easier to keep track of posts we need to see.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Go right ahead and chime in on the Play Forum. If there is any out of game stuff that needs to be handled, we can do that in discussion.

Hi everyone, any chance you have space for another player in your game?

We lost one recently, so there is room, but I will leave it up to the team. Let me repost in discussion and see what they say.

Hi Scotty, it seems the team is more than happy to have another join. What would you like to play? We have an electokinetic version of a Burster, a Wildnerness Scout, a Cyber-Knight and a Glitter Girl pilot. We had some magic, but they have since left the game.

Thanks for letting me jump in everyone. This will be my first time playing with the Savage Worlds system. However, when I was a kid I played a lot of the Palladium games, like Heroes Unlimited and TMNT. I actually never played Rifts though. My friends had the books and we were always reading them, but we never got to playing an actual campaign. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is I know the lore and the setting.

As far as my PC, I'm leaning toward a MARS build, but I'm still thinking about it. I have no problem playing a magic user, but since this will be my first time playing Savage Rifts I think a MARS PC might be easier for me. Gunslinger looked interesting to me, but I haven't really explored all the options yet in the books I have.

Fair enough. Magic is not necessary and we have gotten by without it before. A Gunslinger would probably help as well, but let me know when you've made a decision so I can also start working you into the story. One thing to consider is that all current characters have 9 advances total. If you play a MARS, you automatically start at Seasoned (4 advances), so you would end up with 13 all together. As far as learning the system, I have no problem teaching it in game. It is definitely on my top list of game systems. When they combined it with Rifts, I was very happy. I never did like the Palladium rules system, but the lore is great.

Okay, I'll start working on it. I'm pretty busy with work for about another week and a half, but after that I will have plenty of free time to work on my PC.

Though I have never played this system before I've played multiple edition of D&D and a lot of Starfinder 1E, so I don't think I'll have much of a problem teaching myself.

I'll make sure I understand the rules for advancement since my PC will be starting at a higher level.

I have the Atlantis and the Demon Seas, Player's Guide, Tomorrow Legion Field Manual, Empires of Humanity, and Savage Foes of North America books. I'll be basing my PC off of what is in them.

If any of you have suggestions for what would be fun to play feel free to throw them at me.

For a MARS character:

Guns type: Gunslinger, mercenary, headhunter
Augmented: Juicer, crazy, full conversion 'borg
Scholastic: Rogue scholar/scientist, cyber-doc, operator
Power armor/mecha: Glitter Boy, robot armor pilot, Coalition deserter

Thanks, I'll check all of those out. Most of them I'm familiar with since they are classics. I'll probably stay away from power armor/mecha since we have a Glitter Girl already.

I was just checking out Stone Master actually since I have Atlantis and the Demon Seas. Not MARS, but interesting for sure. Probably not easy to play as a first timer though.

At first I was actually thinking of playing a wilderness scout since the illustration of one in the original Rifts was so memorable to me, but since we already have one I'm fine trying something else.

I'm the Glitter Girl. :)

I believe we also already have a Wilderness Scout as well (Bart).

The robot power armor type can be interesting. It's more like a mecha than a power suit. Something like the SAMAS armor can be really cool, and it gives you a distinctive niche (the Glitter armor is essentially semi-mobile artillery, where you dig in somewhere and hit things with the boom gun, while the SAMAS is a high-mobility heavy robot mecha).

Headhunters can be interesting, they are basically mercenary soldiers but they have some amount of cybernetic conversion. Can be small (ears, eyes, a hand or an internal organ) or somewhat extensive (partial conversion, both legs, dermal armor, etc.).

We'll see, I'm planning on watching The Quick and the Dead and The Good the Bad and the Ugly to give me some inspiration.

Dark Archive

If you ever end up needing another player, Rift is great and I am familiar with Savage Worlds and would love to join in. Have fun gaming!

Cyber Knight here.
I was a new comer to SWADE, but with the GM's I have, I have picked up the rule set, and have been enjoying the game.
And they are right, play what ever you feel comfortable using.

By the way, thanks for letting me join the game. I'm looking forward to playing with all of you.

So I'm planning on going making a Gunslinger. I guess my only question is in regard to money. Since my PC would already have 13 advances would he have more credits worth of gear?

A Gunslinger starts with any two weapons of his choice, so he could have a pulse rifle. However, since the rate of fire on a pulse rifle is so high, along with having the Rapid Fire edge, it seems like ammo would be a problem.

You start with two extra E-clips, but to buy another one is 8,000 credits. I feel like if my PC is using Rapid Fire and firing more than once per round he can really burn through ammo quickly.

Luckily, every time you go back to the Castle Refuge, you get free ammo refills. The perks of being a paid soldier. However, in the field, it may be a concern at some point, especially if you roll a Critical Failure. Starting gear for Heroic, which your Gunslinger will technically be, is the basic starting gear plus 8x your starting funds roll. Speaking of, I should check and see when the last time these guys got paid was...

Okay, that will allow me to buy more E-clips, but ammo could still be a problem. However, I guess that is why you have a sidearm.

Let me just make sure I have this right. If I have the Rapid Fire edge and I'm shooting a Wilk's 457 pulse rifle with a ROF of 3 and I use two actions in a round to fire it that means I'm taking 7 shots in that round. That would use all 30 charges in the E-clip in one round.

That would certainly allow me to achieve my goal of mowing down an entire squad of Dead Boys in an instant.

When your only tool is Gun, every problem looks like Dead Boy!

Yes, you are correct. Rapid Fire gives you a bonus ROF in the first action in the round, so 4 in the first shot and 3 for the second. This would use up 20 in the first burst and 10 in the second burst, giving you all 30 blasts gone in a few seconds. Good thing you can use the charger in the Mammoth when you connect with the rest of the team.

Just a few basic questions about creating a PC.

Humans can't go over d12 for traits correct?

Do I roll my Hero's Journey and Fortune and Glory rolls here so everyone can see them. Also, if they don't fit the head canon I have for my PC do I just re-roll them?

Do I start with 8x's the normal amount of gear in credits? (2d4 x 100) x 8

How about the starting amount of money. Is that 8x's also?

'Normal' Humans can not go over d12 in Traits without an Edge or Framework ability. That said, the Gunslinger gets +2 die types to Agility and the maximum also goes up by that amount. As a human, that puts you at d12+2 max.

You can roll your Journey Rolls here, but to be fair, I don't recall if I had everyone do it that way or not. If you do want to choose rather than roll, I believe you get one less. I will have to double check on that. Re-rolling is akin to choosing as far as Journey Rolls go. The fun part is the randomness. At least, unlike Traveller, you won't die in character creation.

Starting Gear is as follows for a Heroic Tomorrow Legion Character:
- 4d6 x800 Universal Credits
-2d4 x4000 Gear or Valuables
-NG-S2 Survival Pack, fully loaded.
-Huntsman Armor or Plastic Man EBA (I would suggest Plastic Man unless you have another way of dealing with toxic environments)
-NG-33 or Wilks 320 Laser Pistol
-2 E-Clips per weapon
-Additionally, your Framework will probably give you some things as well. I believe the Gunslinger gets two weapon replacements and NG Maverick Armor instead of Huntsman or Plastic Man. Note that since the standard gear package only gives you one weapon, the 2nd replacement could be just about anything, such as the Pulse Rifle you mentioned.

There is also your rolls on your Journey Table as well, plus any gear you get from your starting funds.

I think that covers everything.

All right, I got it.

So, my PC is already a member of the Tomorrow Legion? Okay, I'll add that to his backstory.

For the weapons it says substituting two weapons of my choice. I assume that means I can replace the sidearm with whatever I want along with starting with a pulse rifle.

That is correct.
