Nye groans at the decision to go to the village but trudges along after the rest of the group. Seeing the dynamic of men and women in the place, he is sure to keep his tongue.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

The Drow steps foward and speaks in her very fluent common tongue. "You come before me and explain why you are here but fail to mention who you are. I will introduce myself, I am Adaime, the head speaker of the tribe Guraise, the elf to my right is Sheila, our seer, and to the left is Lilica our general. You are all a rather motley crew I might add. So many different descents present. Of you all there is but one human, I presume you are the "Joe" my daughter Kaime speaks of. Typical male quick to anger and violence but as my daughter has explained, it is that violence that saved her life. I too have no delusions that we as a people have also become rather defensive of late. That spider has consumed many of our tribe and though we have tried to subdue it in the recent week, I feel we were unsuccessful until you all showed up. Now it is no more. This is a great favor and we will shelter you as a result."

She then pause and looks at Joe. "However, there is the matter of my daughter's rather unusual and blasphemous request. She wants to make you her husband. This is highly irregular as our tribe is rules solely by women, but what she seems to be purposing is to give you the right to rule over her. This is detestable to me on many measures. First, before I say anymore on the matter. What is your opinion, Joe, on my daughter and her desire to make your her husband?" She winces at the word husband as though it were a curse she didn't want to utter. She waits for Joe's response.

If anyone else has anything to say, do pipe in.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

Taking the opportunity to give Joe a second to process that little gem, Jivaji steps up and presents himself with a deep bow.
"Our sincerest apologies. We have been so rude not to introduce ourselves. My name is Jivaji Varesh, and you are correct, I am Tengu. I come from the city Katapesh, but have not seen its streets in just over two years.

I have since spent my time perfecting my craft and my trade, for you see, I am a trapsman, hunter, and guide. I understand survival in the wilderness, which is the main reason I agreed to enter your fair village; this jungle would kill us in a week, being as unprepared as we are.

If I may make so humble a request, is it possible for us to tend our wounds and wounded while we discuss details? One of our companions is still under the effects of the spider's venom, and he really should be made comfortable for his recovery."

She didn't respond to my Elven? I'm just curious, because I have no idea, if she doesn't know the language, how Kaime learned it in the first place.

You and Joe practically said the same thing. She responded to everyone. Sorry if she is more interested in Joe then you. Common is a universal language and she is more interested in speaking to the group. Does that answer your question?

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Not a problem, Shano. I was just curious. That makes sense, though.

"Please miss, my name is Tam, and they're right. Men killed my friends, my family. Please don't enslave me."

Taking 10 on Bluff to appear innocent (childlike feat) = 14

M Human Fighter 1

Joe thinks on that a moment, not sure on how to answer that one. "Well, your daughter sure is a might pretty, that's for sure!" He starts as he scratches the back of his head, still trying to think of something. Finally deciding to lay it all on the line, "Alright, here's the thing. I got no problem with being Kaime's husband and all but we ain't gonna be able to stay here. We are gonna have to keep movin'. This Mormont fella, he's gonna keep destroying towns and villages and peoples families and it's up to us to stop 'im. I won't rest until this dadgum fella is dead. Now, I'm not normally a violent fella, but this fella has gone too far. I just can't stand by and let 'im kill innocents across the land. One way or another, he's gonna pay, and I'm gonna die tryin' to make 'im." He pauses a moment to let that sink in. "I know she's real important to ya and to this village. And I sure don't wanna take that away from ya. Now don't get me wrong, I like Kaime. She's a real good girl and like I said, I got no problem with marryin' her. I just hate to drag her through this mess that me and the fellas have no choice but to find a way to clean up." He tries to think of something else but can't. "I guess that's all I got. You and Kaime go on and talk about it and whatever y'all decide, will be good enough for me." He smiles.

"Oh, before y'all talk about the marriage stuff, I'll introduce the others to ya real quick. That fella that was talkin' to ya, that's Eltumal. That one over there," he points to Silent, "that's the quiet fella. At least, that's what I call 'im. He don't talk, ya see. He speaks with his hands. Now that fella there," this time pointing to Nye, "his name is Nye. You met Jivaji and Tam. Course, you know me. Welp, that's everybody. Y'all go on and talk now. I'll just be on over here with the fellas." He says, still smiling.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

The Adaime narrows her eyes at Joe for a moment. She looks at Tam and Jivaji and then back at Joe. She then turns to the rest of you. "You will be allowed to stay, but I have a job for you men. I know of this Mormont of which you speak. If what you say is true, he has somehow " She looks back at Joe. "You seem to hold no real feelings towards my daughter and therefore I refuse you as my some in law." She turns to Kaime and starts shouting in their strange tongue. Soon both Adaime and Kaime are arguing. Then Kaime runs off in tears. Adaime turns back to Joe sharply. "I will not have such an witless and indescive man be her husband. Your vengeance is obviously more important to you and rightfully so. Mormont is a powerful foe and there is no time for love in it. My daughter was foolish to try and make a husband out of a man such as you." She turn and begins to move towards her hut. "Come! We discuss what I need of you." You follow her into the tent. If you have anything to say, now is the time. She will answer each of your questions now that the matter of her daughter is dealt with.

Silent, still leaving the talking to those who… well… can talk, makes sure to watch these villagers for any signs of deception or aggression. Sense Motive 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17.

He stays near Eltumal and Tam if he can help it, giving Mac a reassuring clap on the back when the opportunity presents itself. Easy come… easy go.

Joe turns to Silent and shrugs, seeming to understand what he was saying through that gesture. "Thanks buddy. I'm gonna be alright, don't you worry none. It's not like this is the first time this's happened. Ol' Joe has seen his share of commitments float right on down the river." He then thinks a moment on the other women in his past, comparing them all. "O' course, this time was a bit different than the others. This time I didn't even get to sleep with her first, and I still got the ol' heave ho by the mama." He shrugs again as if saying, 'Oh well.'

Nobody has anything to say! :P on you all. I will post the next part soon but first! LEVEL 2 ALL! YAY! Everyone is now at level to so go ahead and level up. We roll for HP but instead of rolling normal, you use the next lowest dice +2 to determine HP. For example, if you'd normally get a d8 worth of hit points for your class level, it is now a d6 +2. If you have anything to post concerning leveling like questions and what not, please post it in the Discussion thread. Thank you. Now enjoy your new level. One more thing to note. Everyone needs to finish level before I continue. If you haven't finished by Monday evening, the Amazons are gonna eat you for dinner. Got it? Good. Enjoy your level. You guys are doing great. A bit slow but great.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

No questions so it is time to continue this thing.

You all quietly follow the three tribe leaders into the main hut. There you are all seated. Adaime address you. "Now, men. I have a favor to ask of you. Our land is being plagued by the undead. We don't know why exactly by we have a theory. The undead, and the unnatural fog that has imprisoned us here for almost a century have to be related somehow. They both showed up together. We believe that this is an act of a necromancer. We do know there is a family of vampires living somewhere in this part of the forest but we don't know where. Our explorers never return. So now you six get to be our eyes and ears. We ask that you adventure forth and seek out the source of this fog and destroy it. Or at least the source of the undead if there are not one in this same. We will allow you to stay in our village while you conduct your search. To the south of us is a camp made by a large lost caravan that has been stranded here for near fifty years. They have managed to construct a small settlement there. If you need to buy and trade. You should be able to do so there. You can live here in the guest house but do not make any.....manly behaviors towards the women here. I know how you men view us. This is a great gesture on our part to let you stay here so make sure you are on your best behavior."

If none of you have any further questions, then feel free to leave the tent and talk amongst yourselves to decide what to do next.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

"Well, hang on here. Unless I am mistaken, and correct me if I am, the only thing keeping Mormont's armies from stampeding over this entire jungle is that fog, along with a fair amount of enormous lizards no doubt. However, if we bring down the fog your entire village will be overrun. We will all be on the run again."
Jivaji rests his considerable beak upon a fisted claw.
"But your village is also being slowly wiped out by these undead. I am convinced that the battle against the walking dead is simply a losing one. We lost two of our number in the last battle, and it was but a small skirmish." Jivaji sighs deeply, as his hands fall to his lap.
"Well, that's life, I suppose. Always running from one problem, and into another. I suppose we should at the very least learn more about what precisely is going on. And I think our first stop should be this market that our good host, Adaime, mentioned. It will be a trying journey."

Jivaji pulls a half-built contraption out of his backpack and begins to fiddle with it while he ponders.

Tam nods at Jivaji's words. "That's true. What if the fog goes away and Mormont comes here? He'll kill all of us!"

Male Elf Alchemist 2

"Well then, we've come to the conclusion that we have to choose from the lesser of two evils. Now, which of the two that is, I'm not sure."

Hurricane Irene knocked out my internet/cable, so I may not be able to post as regularly as usual.

Silent shake his head, his fingers flashing.

Sign Language:
"So… we help them or they turn on us? Doesn't seem like much of a partnership. At the very least will they provide healing for us as we do the work they can't seem to do on their own?"

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Adaime looks at Jivaji with a puzzled expression. "The fog keeps no one out. People wander in all the time. Usually to their deaths. Everyone who passes through the fog gets trapped in this....location. No one can escape. If Mormont's men were truly after you, the fog would not have stopped them." Adaime looks at Silent as if she is listening. "I can understand three forms of hand speak. We won't kill you if you don't help us but you cannot stay in the village. I have no delusions that men are stronger than women and you all may have a better chance of finding the necromancer than we do. Also, if you die, we have lost nothing. Though we can provide healing when you need it and a place to stay but you have to agree to help us to benefit."

Silent resists the urge to respond with 'do you understand this form of hand speak?' while flipping her the bird. I kiiiiiiiiiiiid!

M Human Fighter 1

Killing me, Silent! Killing me. :)

"We all could use a bit o' healin'. I'm still feeling that nasty bite that big critter laid on me." He then looks to the others. "What'cha think fellas? Wanna kill us some more walkin' dead? Gives us somethin' to do." He shrugs.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

"One foot in front of the other" Jivaji says resolutely.

"Well it doesn't seem we have any choice now do we. We can go wandering about in the fog, sleeping in caves waiting for the living dead to eat our brains in our sleep, or we can stay here and sleep in the village and go out and dare the living dead to eat our brains. Either way this darned fog is not gonna let me see the sea until something is done about it so I am in. I say we let the injured heal, and all of us get a decent nights rest then we go see if we can find source of this problem."

"Oh, and a real meal? And a bath? Can we have a bath? And a meal? Please?" Tam looks even more childlike as he begs for the finer comforts in life.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

"Well, I suppose we'll just have to get rid of them. I don't particularly fancy sleeping out there with them if we can avoid it."

Both Martian Level 20 invader

"Good then we have an agreement I hope. Now first the Healing." Adaime gestures to Sheila the elf. Sheila approaches you and Begins to heal each of you weather you need it or not. "Here, let may ease your suffering"

Healing on Eltumal:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 1) + 5 = 13
Healing on Tam:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 7) + 5 = 18
Healing on Joe:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 5) + 5 = 13
Healing on Nye:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 2) + 5 = 14
Healing on Jivaji:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (5, 8) + 5 = 18
Healing on Silent:2d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 7) + 5 = 14

Healing for everyone yay!

Adaime speaks up. "Lilica please show them to the guest house. There is a wood pit there for you to prepare you own food. We will bring you food for today but I must request that you hunt for anything else you may desire for food. As for bathing the young one can bathe with us but there is a waterhole located east of here where the rest of you must bathe." She marks it on a map and hands it to whomever the leader looking member of the group is. "Now that that is settled. Come with me young man." She says to Tam. "The rest of you go with Lilica." Lilica looks at the rest of you bitterly and leads you out of the hut as Tam is escorted by Sheila and Adaime somewhere else.

Lilica leads you to a shabby but sturdy looking hut on the south edge of the village. "This is yer place." She says in a gruff voice. "Now doncha be goin anywheres y'all don't belong now ya hear?" With that she leaves you to explore the hut. Inside you find a quaint little place with a wood pit in the center and a stack of animal hides and furs in the north corner. There are enough animal hides for you all to make beds on the floor. There is no sign of food yet.

Perception DC 20 For Joe DC is 5:

You will notice that Lilica is NOT an original member of this tribe. She is physically fit and very attractive but her mannerisms and accent tell that the tribal language was not her first.

Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30.

Silent gives a concerned look over to Tam, catching his eye.

Sign Language:
"Yell if you need anything."

He then lets himself be led out, watching everything on the way over, even their escort. He grabs Eltumal and Jivaji as they approach the hut...

Signa Language:
"She's not native to this tribe. Look how she moves and talks..."

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Perception1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Sign Language:
"Ah, yes, I see what you mean. That's definitely interesting. If they've accepted one, chances are that more of these women are also non-natives. Definitely something that might be advantageous for us."

DM:
I'd like to ask her about some ingredients for crafting some alchemical items. I'd use the generic term for them, but I don't really know what to put here, namewise, which is why it's in this spoiler. The Alchemical items I want to make are Liquid Ice, Alchemist's fire, and Acid.

M Human Fighter 1

Joe smiles real big, as he steps out of the hut to catch her before she gets too far. "Hang on a sec. Ya know, sure as shootin' you ain't from round these parts, are ya? That sure don't sound like Kaime and the rest of her people. Where ya from?"

The damage from the spider was ability damage correct? Not ability drain? If so, resting through this night should put me back to normal. I lost 2 points of Con due to the spider bite, but I think we rested once already after the spider attack. Please correct me if I'm wrong. My memory is terrible.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Lilica looks back at you guys. "Guess dere's no hidin it huh? Well I'm from a cozy little place far to northwest called Andoran. I used ta live out on da farms out dere. I get a might strong feelin ya might be from a farm yerself da way ya talkin. I got here bout a good coupla years ago after Mormont dun mopped up my home like a mop on spilt milk. I lost everthing. Wounds me to the heart it does, but I gotta new life here an I ain't gonna let a fella like ya mess it up fer me. Now behave an I wont hafta get rough wit ya er nothin. Y'all take care now. See ya." Lilica turns to continue away.

Coincidentally I had made Lilica very strongly country in her accent though I never did set an origin for her. Not a single player before cared much about her and I've run this campaign with five groups other than yours. Two groups haven't been to this jungle yet.

Silent:

I forgot to mention, You notice a little blue soul floating over her head too but it wasn't on anyone else you met in the village.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

Seeing the potential for disaster...
Before Adaime takes Tam along, Jivaji pulls Tam aside, and speaks to him softly, out of earshot of any of the women: "Tam, friend, um. Odd question; how likely is it that... these women here would... notice your ...manhood... should you bathe with them?" Jivaji seems distinctly uncomfortable asking this question.
"What I mean it, they might take it in a very wrong way if they were to discover what was going on ...down there... and thought it was a deviant ploy."

Tam grins like an idiot, probably the first time he's smiled since the invasion. "Oh, I'll keep everything under the water and well clear!"

M Human Fighter 1

Joe grins real wide. "Whooo! Well alright! But you know where I am if ya wanna talk. I'm from the outskirts of Andoran, myself. And let me tell ya, I grew up with four sisters, so, all I know is rough. Boy howdy, they would team up and work me over real good. Black eyes, busted noses, bite marks, broke fingers, you name it! Whooo! I had to get big and strong so they'd stop whooping me real good." Still smiling real big as he relates the good times. "Well, 'night!" He finishes by waving at her and then re-enters the hut.

Scratching the back of his head as he walks back in, "You know fellas, you don't think there gonna eat our little buddy Tam, do you? I like that little fella. I'd sure hate to lose him. It shor' is funny when he turns into that ol' hairy monster and he goes crazy and starts a clawin' and a bitin'..." Joe interrupts himself with his own laughter. "Whooo! Man that's just funny right there, I don't care who you are." Joe then takes his pack off and goes and sits down.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Tam:

Adaime and Sheila take you with them into their private bathing chambers. I am going to need a will save and a stealth check out of ya little fella.

The others:

Lilica chuckles at Joe. "Heh so y'know all bout da women of Andoran dontcha? Good. Den you understand what'll happin if ya cross me den. Honestly, it sure is nice ta know I wasn't da only surviver of da place. Well met an g'night." with that Lilica leaves in a seemingly better mood than before.

Suddenly you hear a screaming coming from one of your pack animals. They followed you into town and are still with you. You hear. "OH GODS! OH GODS! WHAT IS GOING ON!?!? WHERE AM I!?! YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE!" For those of you who go to investigate the commotion, Levi has finally awoken. It is early evening and Levi is wide awake.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

The Others:

Jivaji, having slid off his heavy backpack, working the kinks of of his shoulders, was investigating the new holes in his shirt when the halfling came to. Rushing over to soothe Levi, "Calm, my friend, calm. You may not remember us, but we saved you from the spiders. You wandered into our camp, assumedly in a fever dream, and passed out almost immediately. You were bitten by the giant jungle spiders. We were able to make an antidote. You are safe now."

Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Others:
Silent stands watching the halfling, ready to physically restrain him if he acts like he's going to bolt.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Others:
[b]"Levi, it's okay. You're fine. They aren't going to hurt you. you're with us, and we're allowed to be here, for the moment, at least.

M Human Fighter 1

Joe walks over to Levi, "Don't you worry none, other little guy, you gonna be alright. We're all safe here and we'll watch on out for ya." He winks and slaps him on the back.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Others:

Levi looks around all panicked for a moment. "Where are we?" He climbs off the horse shaking violently. "Where? We're not in a village are we? Please tell me we are not in a village!?" His eyes are wide and completely freaked out.

Tam:

You are unable to control your hormones but are at least able to hide it. The bath goes well and the view is spectacular. Eventually Lilica joins you. Sheila takes care in washing you and making sure you are clean. "You must have had a most difficult time. Losing all your family and being forced to flee home. At this age you are so innocent, even for a male."

M Human Fighter 1

"Well, shor' we are! What's wrong with that? And we're gonna go fight some more dead critters tomorrow. Ain't that gonna be some fun!" He tells him with a big smile as if that makes everything better.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Did I scare you all off?

Group:

"We shouldn't be here! These people are crazy!" Levi huddles into the fetal position and begins rocking back and forth. "Crazy, crazy, crazy, we are gonna die, gonna die, gonna die." He continues this rather bizarre behavior for the next three hours before he finally starts screaming uncontrollably.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

No, I've had some IRL stuff going on. Apparently it's my fault that I can't get a job because the job market sucks. :/

Others:
"Levi, you need to stop now. Whether they're crazy or not, you have to stop. This is disruptive behavior, and really isn't helping your case with me, or, I'm sure, with them."

Once he starts screaming, I'm going to try improvise a gag with whatever I have at hand. "Could someone help me with him. Tie him up, if you could. I don't want to just dismiss what he's saying necessarily, but he's going to ruin our chance of staying here."

Nye is uncomfortable with the whole situation and is feeling much like he is caught in the web of the spiders they killed earlier. When Levi starts getting restless Nye tries to calm him down. "Easy there friend, you've got to calm down." Popping the cork from his ale jug he takes a swig, notices that is getting very close to empty and offers the halfling some. "I agree these ladies are a bit on the strange side but right now this is the safest place we can be. You've been hurt and so have some of our people. Once we rest up we are headed out of here to try and find out the source of the living dead that plague this place. You'll come with us, it's better than staying here but until then you're gonna have to trust us to keep you safe. Can you do that, can you trust us? They talked about another trading settlement that has established near here, have you been there? Do you know if it would be a safer place to hold up?"

Diplomacy to try and calm Levi down. 1d20 ⇒ 20

Tam enjoys his bath, playing up his "innocence" as much as he can.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

If Nye's carrot or Eltumal's stick fail to motivate, Jivaji will try to tie him up as comfortable as possible (Apparently the DC of the knot is my CMB+20, so 24). Just want to keep him bound and gagged until he stops being so damn loud and obnoxious. Once he calms down we'll try to reason with him before removing his gag. Sense Motive when that time comes around, make sure he won't run away on us 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5.

M Human Fighter 1

"I'll help ya." He moves over to help Eltumal with the crazy halfling. "I'll hold him if one of y'all wanna tie 'im up. Just don't tie 'im up too hard. We don't wanna hurt 'im."

Grapple: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Tam:

You finish the bath with the ladies and Lilica offers to walk you back to the others. You and her dress and she leads you to the kitchen where she orders two servants to bring some food with. You head to the hut where the others are staying. When you get back, you notice Levi all tied up.

Group:

You manage to contain Levi but he seems none the happier and seemingly more panicked than before. Shortly after Lilica returns with Tam and two other womens with baskets of assorted foods.

Lilican approaches and looks at Levi. "Well I see y'all havin lotsa fun I reckon. I brought yer little buddy back and some food fer your starvin bellies. Enjoy y'all." The two women set down the baskets of food. The two leave but Lilica sticks around. "I know da ladies wadn't sound'n to grateful but I am buzzed as bells that y'all is helpin us out. I'm tired of losin ma girls to this jungle and I got a feelin ya boys are more capable dan any of my own. Seriously. I'ma countin on yer survival an iffin ya be need'n anythin, jest ask me. I gotcher backs." If nobody has anything to say, she will leave.

As soon as all the Amazons leave, Tam sinks to the floor with a contented sigh. "Joe, all I can say is you made the wrong choice, my friend. Jungle living agrees with these women in a big way. A big, happily jiggling way. I can die happy now."

We had to tie him up even though I rolled a natural 20 on my diplomacy? Also did he answer any of my questions?

DC to calm him down was 32. Give him some time, he'll relax eventually.

Hello everyone and welcome to the Mormont’s Gauntlet discussion thread. On this threat I will inform you of the rules of the campaign as well as how I plan to run things as your GM. Pretty much all of you have your alias’s down so that’s a start. There are a few rules that I need to go over with you about how I GM

1. Leveling:I believe I have mentioned before that leveling happens as you complete main plot objectives. They also increase for every five subplot objective you complete. There are a lot of both main plot and sub plot objectives and in this particular campaign it is easy to miss a lot of them. So be sure and keep your eyes open for them. There are a lot of opportunities for preplanned combats, but I am open to peaceful solutions if you can manage to persuade the problem away. You don’t have to kill everything you encounter. Get creative. More fun that way.
2. Combat: Okay. In my short time I’ve spent on these forums, I’ve noticed that combat is one of the trickiest aspects of PBP. So I’ve come up with a system that seems to work best. Once a combat breaks out everybody posts their initiative and their first two round actions. Here is an example of how combat will look:

Example Turn:

Round one
I will move to engage the closest foe and then swing my sword to attack. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 For:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.
Round two
If the foe is still standing I will take a full-attack against him swinging with both weapons.
Attack one:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 For 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Attack two:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 For 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
If he is dead, then I will move to the nearest enemy and attack him.
:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 For 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

This is how your combat rounds should look. Feel free to get wordy if you really want to get into character. I will wait for everyone to post before I move on. Once everyone has posted their round one and round two actions, I will arrange all actions in initiative order and make changes as necessary. Then I will post the results and we will move on to round three and four. This will make combat go by quickly and efficiently.
There will not be many random encounters, these have a bad habit of slowing PBPs down and I’d like to keep this campaign moving.
3. Posting: Now, I like roleplay. Very entertaining. How ever, some of you may be on more often than others. If that is the case, I’d like to limit most folks to about three or four posts a day. I’ve been in a game recently where I wont be able to post for several hours, I come back and suddenly there are ten pages worth of posts to read. It’s a pain to get left behind like that so again, please keep your posts to at the most three or four a day. I myself will only post one to three times a day. Also, I will not fill out any progression in the campaign until Everyone is ready to move on. I want this to be fun and not a chore so hopefully we are all ok with this pace. No one gets left behind.
4. Player/Character interaction I’m not a huge fan of PVP. Unless merited, I’d prefer we don’t fight each other. Now I’m big on character development and when people really get into character. This might produce some really irritating characters for some people. Now, I know some people might be annoyed with someone’s character. Please understand that they are most likely playing the role they gave themselves even if it is annoying. This is like life and in life, people don’t always get along. So. As a player, respect your fellow players. If you have an issue with a particular character, don’t take it out on the player, resolve it in game. If it leads to a PVP (Again please try and avoid this) then so be it. I like diverse character’s so don’t get upset as a player, get upset as your character’s personality would.
5. Rulebreakers Now not every rule is set in stone. I am willing to make modifications to certain rules as it pertains to a character or a situation. Also, roleplay always wins out over the rules. For example. (My favorite example) You’re trying to convince someone to see your point of view. You don’t always need to make a diplomacy check to do so. You can make an in character argument to try and convince someone to do what you ask of them. I will usually yield to a reasonable argument. Also, get creative in everything you do. The rulebook doesn’t cover everything, and if you have a creative way to improve rolls or lower DCs, then by all means make the attempt. Also I don’t always give in to natural 20s. In combat yes, but certain skill checks, I would have set DCs high because I don’t want you to succeed. Thus in those scenarios, I will also take away the natural success. Finally, I reserve the right as the GM to make some serious augments to the rules if I need to. Usually this will be to help keep my campaign or plot intact. If there are loop holes, I will likely keep you from using them by making such changes. This wont happen often I promise.
6. Notes on GM Okay, I have been running games and players like you for over 12 years now. While this would mean I am very experienced, it doesn’t mean I’m perfect. I have one major weakness that I’ve been managing to cope with for all that time, it’s Ironic considering how I’m trying to game right now. I am not good at reading. Not sure why, but I am very scatter brained when I try to read and usually do not retain all that I have read. As such, I may forget rules often. I read the rulebook daily to try and keep learning but if anytime in game, I miss something, please remind me. Also, It is possible I might miss certain details in your posts. I apologize in advance for that and please note I do not mean any harm by it. For these weaknesses, my strength (Very ironically) is writing, I love to write and I am extremely creative (As I have been told by many others). I’ve spent a good amount of time on this campaign and it should be very fun.

A few things to note about Mormont’s Gauntlet:
There are 6 chapters, they are relatively long chapters with a boat load of subquests. The first three chapters are survival, and the last three chapters are mission based. The convenient thing is that all of the first six chapters are relatively close in CR so leveling up your character will be enough to keep up with the changes.
Also, for the first three chapters, there are multiple ways to complete them so don’t simply settle on the first solution you find.
One more thing, Silent: You have the Premonitions Trait.

Premonitions Trait:

The night before Mormont attacks Darpuul, you have a nightmare warning you of the attack. This nightmare has helped in your escape but has left you very disoriented to the point that you were unable to warn anyone else. You feel as though you were touched by a higher power with some blessing of foresight. Benefits: You gain a +5 to all checks made to see things like traps and ambushes and even to see how someone may respond to something you or someone else says or does. This will also enable you to use Augery as a spell-like ability for a number of times a day equal to your wisdom modifier (To a minimum of +1). Cons of Premonitions: On occasion (Depending on the current happenings,) you will receive a dream revealing a clue you can attempt to use to understand your situation or get ideas. These premonitions have the drawback of leaving you fatigued or even exhausted, even if you are normally immune to these conditions. They rack your mind with foreign power and you have no control over when you have them. They are not always useful. One of the survivors with randomly have this trait as a free trait.

Enjoy your trait Silent.

Okay. Those are my rules as GM. Now, once everyone posts their present and ready to go and cleared up any final questions or concerns then we will begin. I have been looking forward to this for a long time. Here’s to a good time.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Reporting for duty.

Male City Elf Wizard 1st

I'm here as well, excited to see where this goes : )

Reporting. Eltumal, I love what you did with your hair!

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Yours doesn't look half bad, either, Gylwinth. :P

Dot.

Silent will definitely (mentally) nickname you two 'the twins'. :)

Sheesh... that's one serious trait, Shanosuke!

Also, looking though gear now. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Though I only have 400g to play with.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

You might want to get some potions, they're always good. I'm starting with 11 CLW potions, but those will only last but so long before I have to start brewing more, and it'll take a while to gather ingredients, set up, and actually craft these new ones, if at all plausible wherever we happen to be making camp. Of course, if anyone else has suggestions, put those ahead of this, as it's only a minor concern.

Also, that nickname would probably suffice, if you were allowed to say it. :P

Sheesh... though I just realized if I want my temple sword masterwork... that's 330g right there.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Actually, you probably should get that masterworked.

I have one player at my Friday night sessions who hates it. She's human and tends to wake up tired frequently. And trying to make sense of her dreams frustrates her to no end. It's really quite funny. The dream thing doesn't happen too often. You'll get a few good nights of rest.

Silent thinks back on his strange dream, knowing his groupmates would appreciate the knowledge... then he looks at his black slate and chalk...

I'm going to need a bigger chalk slate...

___

Which bring me to my next question. Could I persuade anyone (with the requisite Intelligence or an extra rank of linguistics) to take Sign Language as a language?

I'm going to add it to Silent's list (losing my rank in Climb), and it'd be awesome being able to communicate someone without having to resort to writing. :)

Male Elf Alchemist 2

If Shano doesn't mind, I'll take it instead of Goblin. It would have been beneficial out in the field to be able to converse without speaking, so it's not all that far off. Truthfully, I just picked Draconic, and then filler languages.

I'll get on my equipment pronto.

I'm here! Getting my gear bought, then I'm good to go.

Tam looks like a yeti. That must be the synthesis.

Here's a few questions I had about hwo the team knows each other (or not).

How big is Darpuul? I mean, i know the constant influx of refugees would shape this somewhat, but how likely is it that all the native Darpuulians know each other?

As far as Silent's concerned, I'd think he'd at least have seen or been introduced to Aldo - as they were both in teh militia (even if Silent was only there for a week or so). Maybe they shared a watch?

Any other thoughts?

Male Elf Alchemist 2

We are more likely the only survivors. Mormont isn't just a "take this place over" kinda guy, he's more of a "put the survivors in a chamber and gas'em kinda guy" (no offense intended to anyone.) If I were in this situation, I'd pretty much trust anyone who was run out of town, if only so that we have a better chance of survival.

M Human Fighter 1

Cool. I'm on the same side as a yeti. ;)

Btw, thanks for the selection Shanosuke. I appreciate it.

Joe's all good to go. He's pretty average, so, nothing fancy like the rest of these cats. :)

Okay, purchases are done… with some money left over! (not sure how helpful that will be, but still.)

I figure it this way: He grabbed what he could loot on the way out of town, grabbing things he'd wished he'd had during his long flight from Mormont's men. He probably was able to hit two homes/businesses before passing beyond the city limits, one being the home of a fisherman and the other being some kind of craftsman… seemed like a smith or carpenter.

And yes, you'll notice he got out of town without any food... apparently the people from whom he looted had already grabbed all the portable food! The nerve!

His gear:

Monk's clothes (2 lbs. - free)
Mwk Cold Iron Temple Sword (3lbs - 360g)
Spear (6lbs - 2g)
Shuriken x20 (2lbs {.5 lbs per 5} - 4g)
Dagger x2 (2lbs {1 lbs each} - 4g)
Light Crossbow bolts (2 lbs - 2g)

Backpack (2lbs - 2g) - total weight: 26 lbs

    Sunrod x2 (4lbs {2 lbs each} - 6g)
    Traveler's outfit (5lbs - 1g)
    fish hooks x10 (n/a - 1g)
    String/Twine 500ft (5lbs {.5 lbs per 50ft} - 1s)
    Chalkboard (2lbs - 1g)
    Hammer (2 lbs - 5s)
    Iron Spike x4 (4 lbs - 2s)
    Candles x10 (n/a - 1s)
    Drill (1 lbs - 5s)
    Canvas, 5sq. yards (1 lbs - 5s)

Belt Pouch (.5 lbs - 1g) - total weight: 1.5 lbs

    Whetstone (1 lbs - 2c)
    Whistle (n/a - 8c)
    Chalk x15 (n/a - 15c)
    Flint & Steel (n/a - 1g)

Belt Pouch (money pouch) (.5 lbs - 1g) - total weight: .5 lbs

    11g, 8s, 5c

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Shanosuke, do you mind if I drop Goblin and instead take Sign Language? It could easily be fit into my backstory. You don't always want to be talking around Dinos, now, do you? :P

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Darpuul is the largest and furthest non military settlement from Mormont's territory. (Military settlements have a problem with deserters) People in the militia would know each other. Native Darpuulians used to know each other fifty years ago. The flood of refugees has made it very crowded and people have very small communities of familiar people. The eight of you are the ONLY survivors. And yes, Mormont's Military is very kill all. They only let fellow murderers live (That would be none of you no matter what your alignment). So yeah. Once I here from Vivaji I will start this thing.

Also, We are technically still in the developmental stage of this campaign. If you need to make changes, nows the time to do so. Just make sure you let me know what changes you are making.

Also. I will be using Hero points. You can find them in the APG. Also, if you level and you would get four hero points, you can trade all four in for an ability point.

Thanks for the Invite, I've had a busy 4th Holiday and will finish the final detail of the character tomorrow. All I have left to do is buy gear and then update this Alias with the character sheet. I should have it done by tomorrow evening.

Question to the party, does anyone want to have a connection to Nye that existed prior to the events of the attack on Darpuul?

Here is the background if anyone is:

Nye Wajid is a Chaotic Good Half-elf Wizard Air Elementalist who until the ports were destroyed earned his living serving on a merchant ship. When he returned from his last voyage to find the ports had been attacked and the settlement ransacked he raced to the home of his betrothed, Tellia de'Amith. Her home had been burned to the ground and her family slaughtered but she was nowhere to be found. Nye searched for days his heart filled with hope but he didn't not find her or any sign of her. Assuming the worst he turned to drinking, but instead of uncovering liquid courage to fuel his revenge, he found misery and despair. Down on his luck, he turned to drink and carved out a hole in the town of Darpuul. When the attack came he was sleeping off a three night bender, a fact that caused the first raiders to think he was dead, killed by another in the fight. When he came to the end of the battle was close, he found his wits and realized that fleeing would be difficult. He picked his way carefully through the carnage avoiding the raiders and found a privet yacht of one of the towns well to due that had not been set aflame yet. Untying the ropes he pushed off and with his arcane mastery of the wind, pushed the sail and maneuvered the small vessel up to coast to the eastern beach. Though trained as a sailor (campaign trait) the boat was too much for one crew member to control and he crashed it upon the rocks not far from the shore. As the ship goes down he gathers his personal belongings and loots somethings from the yacht.(explanation on how the down on his luck drunk has big bucks worth of gear.) Swimming to the beach, he crawls out upon the sand to find a few others who also managed to escape the attack on Darpuul.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

I've switched out Goblin for Sign Language.

Eltumal Woodsoul wrote:

I greatly appreciate that. Anyone who has a decent reason to know it might also consider it. Not only wil it help Silent, but it's a nice way of communicating quietly... which, as Eltumal pointed out, can be very helpful.

Alternately, I'm sure Silent would be more than willing to teach Sign to anyone who wants to learn it once the campaign starts.

Gear should be ready today.

I am leaving Friday for around ten days. I'll be nowhere near a computer. Feel free to NPC me.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

Whew! the 4th is over. Gotta drives the neices n nephew back home though

And checking in!
A few notes:
Jivaji has some limited food supplies, which he would not mind sharing. Likely he will be trying to live off the land as much as possible, which shouldn't be difficult? Depends on how much time we have I guess.

Also, as he bellies up to the beach, he's on a BIG horse, donkey in tow.
Shanosuke, what's the odds I will get to bring them along?

Oh, and, though it's never seen a lick of use, he's got a CLW wand stashed somewhere, and if there's anyone who'd like to save their spell slots maybe...? (he can't even use it. Gave up magic for the trapper archetype)

Eyes the horse and mule...

"Hey! Back-up food stores!" :)

Here is most of the crunchy bits. Still need to finish deciding on what gear to buy and what spells he has in his book/prepared.

I hope to get that done later this evening.

Thats fine. I have posted the start of the campaign. So you can finish gearing out and then you can start.

Okay Mormont's Gauntlet is Here and now.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

I suppose I can take the wand. Alchemist's can use spell-trigger items of the spells they have, but they can't use spell-completion(without UMD, of course.) If anyone else wants it, though, they can take it.

Gylwinth could use the wand, too, right? Might be handy for us all to know where that thing is... in case things go sideways.

Also, are people going to be annoyed with me spoilering Silent's sign-language? Would you prefer I simply assume Eltumal will translate and preface all of Silent's comments with a "the elf translates Silent's worsd as "blah blah blah"?

I prefer the spoiler way, just because my character doesn't understand and he will need to rely on if and what another character will say about it.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

The way you're doing it is fine. It allows for some word-tweaking for the CN Elf. >:)

Just kidding of course.

Edit: I suppose Gylwinth could use it. If he wants it, he can have it, as I have some potions with which to distribute healing.

Lol. He is the one communication Silent has at this point.. note to self: don't piss off the translator elf.

as to the wand, I don't actually care who has it. Just wanted to make sure we all knew it was accessible. :)

Male Elf Alchemist 2

I suppose I'll take it, if not from a mechanics standpoint, the fact that we can actually communicate.

I am having very spotty internet connection tonight, I'm sorry to do this but I might not be able to finish the character tonight. Hope to be done with it soon, if not tonight then tomorrow for sure (knocks on wood)

Equipment done!

Sorry for the delay. Will post in the IC tomorrow.

Sorry to go Silent on everyone. < snicker snicker >

I ended up having to take the day off to watch my kid... surprisingly enough I have way less time to post when I'm with the little guy.

Should be able to post tomorrow.

again, sorry.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Hey Shano, I won't be able to post today, I've got an IRL game that's going to last from about 2 to tomorrow. I'll either post in the wee hours of the morn, or sometime tomorrow. If push comes to shove, feel free to NPC me.

A week from today I am attending a week long conference out of town that I get class credit for. I am not sure what kind of internet access I will have. I am hoping I will get to post at night but won't know for sure until I get there. I am OK with being NPC'd by the DM while I am gone if need be, or if you want to work out something in the story to have my character "exit" for the week I am cool with that too.

I'll be away Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Feel free to DMNPC.

Hey Shanosuke, sorry for the silence in game, it's been hectic irl, and i've not had much of a chance to set down and look over the thread. Again, i'm terribly sorry but if you'd like I'll post now. If you've already made the decision to drop then i also understand, and would like to thank you for the opportunity to play in your game.

It's okay. The long and short of it is that the group defeated the spiders and managed to recover six human shaped pods containing two humans, two elven humans, a half-elf, and a drow all female. The Drow and the half-elf are the only survivors. The group has treated them and is now making their way to a safe haven in a cave. All the woman wore leather armor with strange insignias. Tam has identified them as Galarsi or a close variant. You will still be in the game. If you have any other questions post them.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

Heads up! I'm going to be out of town August 5th - 8th. Internet access will be spotty. I will try to post but can't promise. If anyone wants to take over NPCing for Jivaji during that time, is ok by me.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Just making sure you see it, Shano, I'm going to be out off town from tomorrow until the following sunday, possibly Monday. I will have absolutely no internet access until then.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Hey Shanosuke, in your Crypt of the Everflame recruitment thread, some cat asked if you were still interested in running a Lizardfolk druid or cleric or something like that. (At least I think it was a lizardfolk. *shrugs*)

Just letting you know.

You all have good trips. Remember if I need to I will NPC your characters I usually wait a day before I resort to that. I will not drop anyone who has given me notice. Post here once you get back and I will summarize all the happenings for you.

I am back from my conference and will be catching up in each of my threads soon. Thanks for your patience.
