About Jivaji Varesh

Jivaji's Background:
' Wit, guile, and luck are the only things that kept Jivaji alive on the rough streets of Katapesh. His skill with trap and blade came with being always on his toes; whether by avoiding the law, the thuggish brutes who rules the back allies, or the inevitable retribution the victims of his burglary.

' His survival often relied on frequent trips out of the city at night, to prey on unsuspecting beast and traveler alike. However, unlike many of his contemporaries, he only took what he needed, and even occasionally showed some sympathy to the seemingly innocent.

' Jivaji yearns to live a life where stealing from innocent people isn't a necessary part of life, and has recently begun training himself to withstand the trials of the wandering road.

Two Years Later:
' Moving fluidly through the underbrush, between tree and gnarled root, Jivaji Varesh flees through the thick vegetation ahead of him. Distant sounds of feverish battle bubbles up from behind him. Panting, Jivaji pauses to take in a mouthful of water from his waterskin. His looks behind him briefly as the water does it's duty, soothing his burning throat. As he looks back, the awful vision that caused him to flee flashes through his mind again.

' The scout creeped silently in the shadows beside the road, stalking the woman carrying berries back to town. Jivaji was over 100 feet away, watching from the side of a steep hill to the north. He knew what was going to happen the second he saw the mark of Mormont on the scout's belt. The truly terrible things was, he knew there was nothing he could do. How many times had he seen this play out?

' The logistics of feeding an army of that size was the only fact that brought Jivaji any source of peace. He could get maybe a couple months of good hunting and repairs before Mormont's bloodlust set him to find new grounds.

' The scout knew what he was doing. Avoiding a patch of thistlegrass on the ground--prominent in this area, and quite noisy--he slipped up behind the woman and clamped his hand over her nose and mount. Once wrestled to the ground, and set to knife-point, the woman stopped struggling, and the scout let loose a shrill whistle. With the bloodthirsty army making ample noise for cover, and with no desire to witness the deeds soon to occur in Darpuul, nor the unspeakable one no doubt already occuring on the road, Jivaji slipped away from his vantage point.

' Jivaji knew that the only benefit of alarming the residents would have been to cause a delay between himself and the swath of destruction, a distraction that Mormont's army would enjoy too much. Still, he had to do something, so he shouted out a brief alarm as he skirted the town. To do nothing else wore on his heart heavily. More heavily than he had a mind to admit.

' The whole scene flashed by in the span of two heavy breaths. Jivaji set back on his course, and in a short time, he arrived at his camp; a well-hidden sunken hide-away surrounded by a thick copse of trees. There waited his faithful warhorse, Faxmir, and simple packbeast, Dox. Hurredly, he loaded his belongings back onto the back of the rested donkey, destroyed any evidence of a camp, and set out--on horseback--with haste once again. He knew that sooner or later, something was going to have to give. Sooner, rather than later, he found himself facing a coastline, and completely surprised that he was not alone.

Description:
' This slouching, bird-like humanoid is draped in non-descript, loose-fitting clothing. You can hear soft, hoarse mutterings come from his prominent beak when no one is talking to him.

Child of the Streets (Social Trait) You grew up on the streets of a large city, and as a result you have developed a knack for picking pockets and hiding small objects on your person. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Sleight of Hand checks, and Sleight of Hand is always a class skill for you.
Favored Enemy (Humanoid (Human)) (Ex) (Ranger Ability) You gain a +2 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks when using these skills against humans. Likewise, you get a +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against such creatures. You may make Knowledge Skill checks untrained to identify such creatures.
Gifted Linguist (Ex) (Racial Trait) Tengus gain a +4 racial bonus on Linguistics checks, and learn 2 languages each time they gain a rank in Linguistics rather than 1 language.
Reactionary (Combat Trait) You were bullied often as a child, but never quite developed an offensive response. Instead, you became adept at anticipating sudden attacks and reacting to danger quickly. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Initiative checks.
Sneaky (Ex) (Racial Trait) Tengus gain a +2 racial bonus on Perception and Stealth.
Swordtrained (Ex) (Racial Trait) Tengus are trained from birth in swordplay, and as a result are automatically proficient with sword-like weapons.
Track (Ex) (Ranger Ability) You gain +1 to Survival checks made to follow or identify tracks.
Wild Empathy (Ex) (Ranger Ability) You can improve the attitude of an animal. This abilty functions just like Diplomacy check made to improve the attitude of a person. You roll 1d20+1 to determine the Wild Empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly. To use Wild Empathy, you and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal circumstances. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but as with influencing people, it might take more or less time. You can use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but you take a -4 penalty on the check.
