Salty GM |
@Lormo You guys would have wadded there. I was suppose to give you a swim check, but I jumped ahead by accident.
The ship's deck is at an awkward angle so you guys are on difficult terrain(2 squares=1 square uphill, charge downhill =acrobatics DC15) and everyone takes a -2 on attacks including the enemy.
Cloony Verne |
"Quite right sir Baelir. To everybody, as i recall this is of the species Scorpio Maris, the common sea scorpion. It is not particularly strong, but its sting causes loss to your physical endurance."
"They do need salt and spices if one wants to cook them, but fried seems to be best."
Had a bite of fried black scorpion on a chinese market, so hence ^^
Kasia |
Round 1
Hey, I'm at initiative 8, but I'm happy to move forward and back anybody up.
Kasia Readies her Trident to move up and strike following whoever takes the lead.
striking trident of seasalt!: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
dmg if hit: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Lormo Shashud |
Lormo spend a moment, loading his crossbow and then took a shot. To bad, while he was loading, someone's back limited his visibility to a target.
Bolt hit a deck and stuck in it.
Attack (-2 for strange angle, -4 for melee): 1d20 + 2 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 2 - 4 = 8
Albawar Grizzlemane |
Round 1
Albawar moves forward, drawing his dorn-dergar, until he is within 10ft of the creature and strikes towards it's armoured skull
Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 - 2 = 11
But the ships strange angle throws off his attack
Baelir |
Rapier: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 2 = 181d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
"Scorpion no, however my mother did get a cook to deep fry a very large spider once. Taste almost like crab with an earthier flavor to it. Back to what is at hand, take this!" Baelir finishes his sentence as he thrusts the rapier into the creature.
If it attacks me just roll parry for me on the tail.
Salty GM |
Before the scorpion even got a chance to move, the party made mince meat out of the critter. Note to self, make fight more challenging
After the fight is over, a quick look around can tell that the ship is i ruined and scavenging and moving around would be difficult. Only three rooms are safe enough to enter: the captain's room, the larder(which the scorpion is trying to get in), and the supply room.
What are you going to do next
Mosi Night Arrow |
"Either is fine by me. I just hope we can find some arrows. I dont think we will find a shop to buy new ones for awhile."
Baelir |
Taking a look around, Baelir proceeds cautiously. Following Albawar to the captain's room, perhaps there might be a map or journal of some kind that might detail what happened to his new friends.
"Albawar, check the footlocker. If you can let's drag it out and let's search the desk. Maybe we can find something useful or a clue."
Kasia |
Sorry I didn't take the -2 sunday night on my attack roll. I'm bad at those details, details, details.
Kasia takes a moment to examine the scorpion for gender or anything unusual.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
She has a deep respect about her manner and surveys the horizon for signs of any other groups. Her attention is split and her glance is a quick one.
Next she sets down to butcher the scorpion. survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
As she works she looks up at the man in the manacles, Jask, and asks,
"M'lord Jask, Can you move about safely in those my friend? You may find something to get them off in the supply room. Only a thought."
Salty GM |
Desk: One upper drawer contains a set of keys. Another held two set of maps and the captain's journal. One of the lower drawers is locked. The other lower contain a satchel of about a dozen potions.
Footlocker: Contains a masterwork dagger, leather armor, two potions, a holy symbol, and a spell component pouch
@Kasia You gather enough meat to feed 8 people if rationed properly.
Lormo Shashud |
Lormo walked a slope, taking something in small leather pouch. Than he stopped to free his bolt out of deck. Success if 50+: 1d100 ⇒ 92. Mosi definitely had a valid point about saving everything unless we can plan some resource spending in future.
"Albawar, please let me try", elf took his fishhook and put it into keyhole. He pressed the other corner of a lock with crossbow bolt, whispering through his teeth, "why I left my tools at home, next time I should take everything with me, even if it will cost me a dime or two"
Disable Device to open lock with improvised tools: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 - 2 = 5
"Ouch!", bolt slipped out of keyhole, scraping Lormo's hand. "This is not easy as I expected it to be, but I read in book about locks, that it should be simple, you just need to apply enough force to a specific part".
Albawar Grizzlemane |
Albawar gathers all the loot together and moves out of the cabin. He calls to the others as he moves
"Has anyone got any tools or the necessary skills to unlock a drawer? It could contain something useful. We also need someone to determine what these potions are."
With that he proceeds to claim the dagger for himself as a memoire of his former friend but offers a free pick of anything else to the others.
Mosi Night Arrow |
Mosi looks at Albawar strangly.
"Why do we try those keys you found and see if any of them fit?
"
she asks looking around hopefully.
"Maybe that journal has some information about what happened. Can I read it?"
I believe you can take 20 to disable devise even improvised as we are not in a hurry right now.
Albawar Grizzlemane |
Albawar nods at Mosi and hands over the journal
He then proceeds to try the keys on the locked drawer and any other locked object they might find except Jask's cuffs which he refuses to unlock for the moment
Baelir |
Baelir remains on watch near the door in case anything decides to try and get the drop on the party.
"We have some time, let's try and get that lock open. If not we can always break the lock. Just be careful Lormo, locked drawers might be trapped. In your haste you seem to have forgotten a book you perhaps have read on traps and security, correct me if I am wrong."
Lormo Shashud |
"Yes, thanks for pointing that out, I haven't check the drawer for any surprises, but I think if those were expecting me, I'd paid in already because I was storming the front part pretty roughly. Let me look on those potions you talk about and that, I'll find some other tools to use and finally open drawer lock."
Lormo took a potion and carefully checked lid, than smell, than color of tincture inside. It took him couple seconds and than he switched to next one. After some investigation, he passed potions back to Albawar.
"Those look unfamiliar to me, probably other approach on brewing the base and smell of verbena is blocking my understanding of what that is. Cloony, do you mind looking? It might be from Magnimar, so you have a better chance to recognize them."
Elf "looser professor" Lormo!
I have all knowledges and professions, but I forgot to buy Alchemist kit (Thanks to DM for allowing me to change that later) and now I discover I have no ranks in Craft (alchemy) :)
What a nice concept of a character: no spells or skills, except being smart ass :D
If DM allows:
Potion1: Craft (alchemy) untrained: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Potion2: Craft (alchemy) untrained: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Kasia |
@Lormo did you record the other scorpion meat on your sheet?
If not I'll add the meat from earlier to what I just butchered.
Kasia stows rations in her backpack for now.
She goes over and enters the larder and looks around for preservatives.
Lormo Shashud |
"Kasia, I can take 3 or 4 rations, but I'm not very experienced into moving heavy backpack around. Are you sure, you can wrap them somehow for them not to be ruined if I throw my backpack on ground in a middle of fight? Just put them on top, while I take a close look to locked drawer with this", he raised a thin nail from a loot pile in a corner.
if DM allows, I'd like to Take20! On Disable Device check and it will be 23 total to open closed drawer.
Kasia |
Alright, in that case Kasia left 4 of the first 8 rations buried in the sand as an offering to Gozreh and his creatures. It might attract a predator/scavenger or other game. That would make for better hunting and better food later.
General Note: If you guys ask for food and don't take it, I'm just going to leave it there to possibly grant us god's favor or turn up other food.
Kasia casts around inside the Larder opening barrels and poking into boxes while holding 12 rations of scorpion meat in her backpack.
@DM SALTY - Hey, if Kasia enlarges herself, can she drag the boat closer inland or pry up the deck for access to the depths of the ship?
Salty GM |
Go take your twenty, Lormo. @Kasia The ship is lodge on the rocks. A large creature would not budge it.
@Kasia Most of the food is now gone. The ones you find would feed one person. You also find the body of the chef in one of the barrels.
The final entry is perhaps the most disturbing, for in it the captain writes of how he’s changed course for Smuggler’s Shiv at Ieana’s request. He hopes that the two of them can make a home on the remote island, but also notes that the crew are growing increasingly agitated at the ship’s new course. The captain muses that “something may need to be done about the crew” if their suspicions get any worse.
Kasia |
"I found our cook... It's not good." she calls out loudly.
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
She tries to check the body and area to make sure whatever killed him isn't still a threat.
Then she gets over to the body to investigate cause of death and time of death. heal: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Cloony Verne |
After concentration and examination Cloony figures out most of it.
"Ah! Good news people, these 4 potions from the desk, they are potions of cure light wounds.
As are the ones from the footlocker, though i cannot figure out these last ones."
Kasia |
"It doesnt look good. Watch for Snakes!"
@DMSALTY does it look like someone stuffed him in the barrel or does it look like he climbed in the barrel and then the snake got him? (Let me know if you want another heal/perception roll for that)
know(religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Kasia tries to determine how best to lay the cook's body to rest.
Mosi Night Arrow |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
It sounds like the large hole is in the captain cabin.
Mosi examines the hole carefully
does it appear that the boards are pushed in or out?
"This is very strange. The captains journal appears very orderly and correct in the begining. Just as you would expect from our captain, but then it changes. Days are skipped with no entry, he begins to go on & on about Ieana, one of the passenger. That doesn't sound at all like the Captain.
Then he starts writing poems to her. Really bad poems at that. Then he starts talking about how he thinks Alton the first mate is in love with her. He then mentions how he wishes Aton would have an accident. Our all business Captain then changes course to this island on a request by Ieana. Finally the captain talks about living on the island with Ieana and he mentions something has to be done about the crew.
This sounds like the captain was under some kind of spell or something.
Maybe this Ieana was some kind of creature that could look like a human, or something.
Add to all this information some snake thing attacked to cook. We dont know if the cook actually made the soup we last ate on the ship. The cook could have died before the soup was made."
Mosi begins to look around for more clues.
Kasia |
Kasia knows she has to bind him onto a floatable mass of wood atthe end of high tide. As the tide goes out, the cook will be swept out to sea.
Kasia bends down to
Then she closes the cook's eerie staring eyes.
Albawar Grizzlemane |
Albawar nods at Cloony's assessment of the potions and proceeds to hand one out to each of the initial party, in case they ever needed it.
Since there are 6 I assume that everyone would like one?
He then gazes quizzically at the the other potions, curious as to their effects.
As Mosi speaks up Albawar curses in anger at the story of the Captain's demise, swearing revenge on the foul creature who forced him to do such things.
Baelir |
Taking the potion he thanks Albawar before taking holy symbol and contents of the drawer. This might belong to one of the survivors. He then heads off to finding the kitchen and dead cook. Seeing the snake bite he cringes a little. But how or why would a snake that large kill a man and not eat him?
"Here, can I get a look at the journal? Id like to see how bad this poetry is for myself."
-Posted with Wayfinder
Mosi Night Arrow |
Mosi happly takes one of the potions and places it in the bag she was given. Then she hands baelir the journal.
"Here you might discover something I missed. By the way does anyone know if the captain was a caster. I wasn't aware he was and we found a spell pouch here."
Baelir |
Belir shakes his head.
"I don't believe so, however it might belong to somebody on the beach. Perhaps the man in irons. If you needed to keep a spellcaster or priest from casting spells what would you do? Remove any device used for casting and prevent them from using their hands seems like a good place to start."
Kasia |
I check the supply room next. First, cracking the door open slowly, then peering inside and checking any containers.
Are there any clean barrels or boxes from what I've seen? I'm looking for intct containers which might be easily portable. I'll also check for tools.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Mosi Night Arrow |
Mosi would love to know if wood around the whole in the ship is pushed out or in?
Mosi looks around the kitchen opening cupboard and looking in boxes for anything intersting.
she will take 20 for 28 perception
Kasia |
Kasia looks around for the monk who they met on the beach. She will ask Jask, Ishirou, and Sasha to give her a hand with the door.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
"Would you lend me your hands? I fear I may not be able to pass this threshold alone."
Then, regardless of whomever accepts, she'll square up and get ready to kick the door open.
Baelir |
Seeing everybody scattered about the ship Baelir recognizes when something could be potentially dangerous. Seeing Kasia at the supply room door but almost nobody else, Baelir tries to get everyone together. Speaking loudly he tries to call the others.
"Guys, don't wander too far off. We can't act like roaches in a lit room before theres a fire. Come on over to the supply room and we can try and get this thing open."
Mosi Night Arrow |
Mosi joins Kasia & Baelir.
"Can I help with that?"
She looks around at the two others working on the door.
"Maybe I should get Albawar and see if he will help."
Mosi climb back up to the deck of the ship.
"Hay Albawa, we have a door in here we can't open. Could you come help us please?"
