Gryne, call it curiosity, but what god do you follow?
I am not 100 percent sure yet. I have never played a character with a God/Deity. I have been looking for one with the Air Domain underneath them....any suggestions?
Actually, now that I look at them again, I'm going to go with Shelyn

Roshan, not having been in one of your games before, how do you run combats? I know there are a couple different ways of doing it.
Also, should we concern ourselves with purchasing Trail Rations and Tents, or are these type of things furnished under “we will cover the expense of your travel in full”?
Konnar |
I think for this mission it might be included, simply because Valsin deliberately stated that they will cover our travel expenses in full, but in other cases, this may not be the case. For the most part he is pretty lenient on the basics, but if we want any form of extravagance we are expected to cover those ourselves. (Such as purchasing a pavilion tent in Roshan's RL PFS games.)
Roshan |
do we have faction specific goals in this adventure as well?
(new to this so I don't know the standard)
Indeed, there are faction specific goals but as they aren't given to you until you recive your regular mission you haven't been given them yet. After the dialog with the Chamberlain you'll recive your faction mission along with time to purchase anything else you'd like to get for the mission.
I'd like to remind you all that the land of the linnorm kings is really cold, average temperature during the day is just above freezing.

We'll run combat on the boards. Don't worry about the mundane stuff like tents, bedrolls and rations but everything else is on you.

How should we handle private conversations between players? I am thinking spoiler tags and it can be honor system, but those that are confident that they can handle the ooc knowledge could read it.

FYI
Land of Linnorm Kings: The brutal frozen tundras and steep fjordlands of the Linnorm Kings offer plenty of danger for intrepid Pathfinders, but the hostile barbarian population holds outsiders in low regard and the ravenous beasts of the hinterlands are quick to devour those ill equipped to survive in the harsh northern climes. Despite this, a handful of Pathfinder agents currently base themselves in the (relatively) cosmopolitan city of Kalsgaard, which they use as a base to explore the weird effects of the First World Rift spanning the whole of Linnorm King territory. Some believe that the rift may offer a way to access and study the First World itself, a task worthy of immediate publication in the Pathfinder Chronicles.

As far as PFS campaigns go, is it assumed we have basic armor and weapons or do we have to purchase it?
What is considered beyond basic equipment? Caltrops? Grappling Hook and Rope?
Just getting familiar with the structure.
Thanks guys.
Gryne Skystone |
You start with 150gp to purchase equipment with as a first level character. You get one outfit for free (10gp or less), but have to purchase everything else.
Thanks Strat-
I'll add up all the stuff that mysteriously made it into my inventory.Konnar |
I still purchased my own waterskin, but yeah. I think the cold weather outfit should be paid for by us though, since it gives a bonus to our Con checks for enduring the cold environment. (Learned that the hard way with another PFS character.)
Roshan |
So, bedrolls, winter blankets, rations and a waterskin are on the Grand Lodge? Those would encompass mundane, no?
In game terms what I meant was that consider trail rations, water, flint and steel, basically any supplies you would normally go camping with paid for but you consume these items over the course of the adventure. You don't get anything for free unless specifically stated.

Gotcha-That is what I was assuming.

"Let our heroes become tested in battle, for this will forge bonds tempered in the blood of our foes."
-Can't remember who said it, and I'm not sure I got it right 'cause I couldn't find it. But hey, good enough for me.
In other words, I'm fine with either as well.

By the way Roshan,
I want to make sure you don’t hold up the plot on my account. I tend to post just to keep things interesting. I would hate for you to wait for me to RP some non-critical conversation before moving the plot along.
So yeah, if I get in the way, just ignore me. :)

Hey guys, how quick is the First Steps campaign?
This is my first PFS game and I am just figuring out the logical progression and benefits of going backwards to complete that or repeating campaigns. I think the best reason for completing a campaign a second or third time would be to complete your faction mission, correct?
Belegorn of Erastil |
First steps are just as long as any other three scenarios, but they are a good introduction.
In general you don't get credit if you play a scenario again, even if you do better the second time. The exception is the first Steps series. You can play those again, with a new character, and still get credit on that new character.
Have you read the PFS Player's Guide? If not you really should. It's a free download and explains all this and more.
Gryne Skystone |
Yes, I read the Player's Guide and all the intro stuff. I don't read campaigns because I don't want to ruin anything.
I understand the framework of PFS and am really wanting to do more of the scenarios. I just don't have a plan of attack yet.
I play with a great DM in real life and he is big on adapting older D&D modules for Pathfinder. I have tried to convince him to start doing the PFS stuff, but he prefers a little more freedom, which is great because not every DM has that creativity.
Sooooo, some of the questions I have:
XP is given on a simplified format, correct? So is it after each complete scenario or full campaign for each level?
The Prestige Points I do not completely understand, can someone summarize it for me? You can gain up to 3 PP per scenario and those points can purchase faction specific goodies?
The sheets that Roshan has mentioned, those are relevant for advancement and possible equipment to buy correct? Do the items listed expire or can you only purchase them upon completion? I thought I read that one of the reasons you repeat the scenario is to buy a specific item.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the patience and answers.
Belegorn of Erastil |
Go back and take a look at pages 16-22 of the Player's Guide. They answer all these questions in detail.
XP is given after each scenario or module you complete. Scenarios give 1 XP and modules generally give 3 XP. You need 3 XP to advance a level.
PP can be spent on boons, equipment, resurrection, and other benefits. Fame, basically the total PP you have ever earned, determines the max price on magical items you can purchase.
After each scenario or module you receive a Chronicle Sheet. You mush keep these sheets with your character. They give you credit. They also list any magic items you found during the scenario. Those items are available to be bought by you at any time, not just at the end of the session.
Gryne Skystone |
Alright, I got it. I was confusing the GM's ability to replay for a different character with a regular PC.
I like the format and dedication to one character with PFS. You certainly get a sense of ownership over your character.
Thanks for the info Belegorn.
