Rise of the Runelords Table 1 (Closed)

"From the idyllically peaceful coastal town of Sandpoint to an ancient lost city at the top of the world, Rise of the Runelords takes a party of adventurers from 1st to over 18th level and delves into the mysteries of Varisia's ancient past. Millennia ago, the powerful empire of Thassilon ruled the land, dominated by despotic runelords who maintained their power through harnessing the power of rune magic. Thought gone forever, the workings of Thassilon are not so far beneath the surface and one of the runelords plans a return to power. Only the brave adventurers stand in his way."

Hey gang! A couple of players disappeared (as so often happens), so I'm opening recruitment! I'm looking for two players to add into the game. Players are still first level and it's quite early in the campaign. We did lose our divine caster, so one of those would be appreciated! Other than that, most roles are filled party-balance wise, so just make whatever sounds appealing to you!

I AM GIVING PREFERENCE TO ANYONE THAT APPLIED BEFORE BUT DIDN'T MAKE IT IN!
That is not a guarantee of acceptance, but I am more likely to select you if you tried before.

All of the info from the original recruitment is below.

Me:
A bit about me, first! I'm a gamer with over twenty years of experience, and a quite experienced GM as well. I've rolled dice almost as long as I can remember and love no gaming experience so much as role-playing games. I'm new to the Paizo boards but an experienced player and runner of Pathfinder. I also have quite a lot of experience with the PbP format.

Format and Expectations:

The format will be Play by Post, if that wasn't obvious!
Posting expectations are one post per day from every player. Weekends are exempt but I will post on weekends, so if you're free we'll get through stuff that much faster! If something comes up and you won't be able to post for a while, that's just fine. Just let me know, and we'll work something out.

Character Generation:

Just to get it clear, no third-party material will be allowed.

Attributes: Roll 2d6+6 six times on this thread, or 20 point buy, whichever is higher! You may assign the results however you wish. Shamelessly stolen from DM Mathpro!

Races: Corr preferred. Featured races from ARG are also fair game. Anything else will be a case-by-case basis. Racial archetypes and alternate traits from Paizo are all kosher.

Classes: Core/APG preferred. I have not yet read through Occult Adventures or Path of War, so those classes will not be available. All other Paizo is available, though Sulmmoners must play the Unchained variant, and Gunslingers are restricted to the Bolt Ace archetype.

Traits: Two traits. One must be a campaign trail from the Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide. A third tree may be taken if you take a drawback. However, the drawback must be explained in your character background. Which leads me to my next subject...

Backgrounds: At the least, I would like a 10-Minute Background. Candidates that have both that and a regular background consisting of a few paragraphs will be considered most strongly. If you're having trouble with your character background send me a PM! We'll work on something.

Skills: We will be using background skills. We will also be using one consolidated skill- Athletics, replacing Acrobatics (jumping), Climb and Swim.

Starting Wealth: Starting wealth is max for your class.

Recruitment will be open until Friday. Good luck!

Sovereign Court

Hi there, may have something for you - I'm contacting a fellow poster with whom I did a tandem application a while back for a game that almost immediately folded due to some real-life stuff that the DM had to deal with. So you might get a linked pair of character apps soon!

I will dot. See what I can pull together.

Funnily, was actually thinking about making a Magus...been wanting to try one for a while.

Go ahead and get the rolling out of the way to see what I am working with.

They See Me Rollin': 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 6 = 16

Tryin to catch me ridin' dirty: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
Tryin to catch me ridin' dirty: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13

24 points...that's decent.

Haha! Alkan Arrow-Seeker reporting for duty!

Stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
Stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
Stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15

Stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
Stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12

working on a little something

Sovereign Court

Wow, I only just now realized that you (the GM) are the same player with whom I had that tandem app in a different game. Oops. :)

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9

stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15
stats: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14

I can work with these... will start on a character later tonight after my ftf game is done...

Interesting. Dot.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 = 14

Interesting again, I can work something out with this.

Sovereign Court

Sooo... anyone interested in building a character with a connection? :D

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Jessie - sure... but I don't know what I'm building yet... I was thinking maybe a wizard might be useful... 1st lvl as investigator, then wizard after that... someone local from Sandpoint...

what did you have in mind?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

waskally - how did you get those stats without rolling... no way with a 20 pt buy... just curious...

Urf try and get in! Already made with 20 point buy, but will try to dice when not on his phone. Hopefully nice GM will allow goblin dog Itchy Butt for mount, but things can be worked out if not. Background will also be revised from previous attempt to get in a campaign, but otherwise, all things stay same.

@Jaf, Waskally applied to the game previously. I remember Alkan very well :)

GM given where the characters are would you be open to a goblin pc applicant. Maybe someone the party fights, subdues, and forces to help them?

Could be interesting rp wise.

I am fine with doing something more mainline, but it seemed like it could be fun.

Hello player here. Feel free to look at what's happened so far and the other characters. Ask, ask away.

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17 STR (15 for goblin)
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14 DEX (18 for goblin)
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12 CON
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10 INT
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12 WIS
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14 CHA (12 for goblin)

Ha, Urf do the dice thing good! Numbers even match where stats go! Will pick campaign trait and write background later, though; is late and Urf need sleep. Can't be glorious when not awake!

ok... JAF0 here... this is my submission - still needs a few twinks, and a 10minute background, but it's basically done...

Dot with interest...
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
Go to Cade Goodbarrel.
Background to follow soon

OK, felt like playing someone a bit more violent than usual.

Brawler's Cunning (Ex) If the brawler's Intelligence score is less than 13, it counts as 13 for the purpose of meeting the prerequisites of combat feats.

Darkvision (Ex) Range 60 ft.; Darkvision is the extraordinary ability to see with no light source at all, out to a range specified for the creature. Darkvision is black and white only (colors cannot be discerned). It does not allow characters to see anything that they could not see otherwise-invisible objects are still invisible, and illusions are still visible as what they seem to be. Likewise, darkvision subjects a creature to gaze attacks normally. The presence of light does not spoil darkvision.

Friends and Enemies One of your family members, perhaps a parent, cousin, aunt, or uncle, helped Daviren Hosk put down a group of goblins near Sandpoint. Since then, your family member passed away, but not before telling you about that day and the offer Daviren made her should she ever be in need. Once you make it to Sandpoint and meet up with Daviren Hosk at the Goblin Squash Stables, he gives you one of his best steeds and all the necessary accoutrements as gratitude for your family member's help: a heavy combat trained horse, a military saddle, saddlebags, bit and bridle, a month's worth of feed, and lifetime stabling at the Goblin Squash Stables.

Improved Unarmed Strike When you deal nonlethal damage with an unarmed strike, you can spend up to 5 stamina points to deal an amount of additional nonlethal damage equal to double the amount of stamina points you spent.

Intimidating (Ex) Half-orc receive a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate skill checks due to their fearsome nature.

Martial Flexibility (Ex) The brawler can use a move action to gain the benefit of a combat feat he doesn't possess. This effect lasts for 1 minute. The brawler must otherwise meet all the feat's prerequisites. He can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 4. The brawler can use this ability again before the duration expires in order to replace the previous combat feat with another choice. If a combat feat has a daily use limitation, any uses of that combat feat while using this ability count toward that feat's daily limit. At later levels, when he gains multiple feats through this ability, the brawler can use those feats to meet the prerequisites of other feats he gains with this ability. Doing so means he cannot replace a feat currently fulfilling another's prerequisite without also replacing those feats that require it. Each individual feat selected counts toward his daily uses of this ability.

Martial Training (Ex) A brawler counts her total brawler levels as both fighter levels and monk levels for the purpose of qualifying for feats. She also counts as both a fighter and a monk for feats and magic items that have different effects based on whether the character has levels in those classes (such as Stunning Fist and a monk's robe). This ability does not automatically grant feats normally granted to fighters and monks based on class level, namely Stunning Fist.

Orc Blood (Ex) Half-orc count as both humans and orcs for any effect related to race.

Orc Ferocity (Ex) Once per day, when a half-orc is brought below 0 hit points, but not killed, he can fight on for one more round as if disabled. At the end of his next turn, unless brought to above 0 hit points, he immediately falls unconscious and begins dying.

Poverty-Stricken Your childhood was tough, and your parents had to make every copper piece count. Hunger was your constant companion, and you often had to live off the land or sleep in the wild. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Survival checks, and Survival is always a class skill for you.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency A brawler is proficient with all simple weapons plus the handaxe, short sword, and weapons from the close fighter weapon group. She is proficient with light armor, and shields (except tower shields).

Weapon Familiarity (Ex) Half-orcs are proficient with greataxes and falchions, and treat any weapon with the word "orc" in its name as a martial weapon.

Weapon Focus Once per round, you can spend 2 stamina points to gain your Weapon Focus bonus on attack rolls with a weapon with which you don't have Weapon Focus. This bonus lasts until the start of your next turn.

And his backgound.

Story:

Growing up in the Ironbound islands as a half-orc is better than many places in Golarion, but it is still a harsh and unforgiving environment.

Karn spent much of his short childhood scavenging and stealing to survive.

Bigger and stronger than most his age Karn learnt to use it to his advantage.
Enforcer, legbreaker, thug. Karn's been called all of these, and with some accuracy.

Finally he decided that following his current path would lead him only to his death.
Either by the law, or by another group of criminals.

Smarter than he lets on to others Karn chose to accept honest work on a small trader sailing for far away Varisia.
This would serve to both get him honest coin, and well away from his old stomping grounds. With it's temptations, debts and grudges.

Once in Sandpoint Karn decided to meet with someone his Uncle had told him tales about. Daviren Hosk.
Uncle Snorri had been a drinker and a bit of a wildman before meeting his end in a fight off the Shackles.
But he had been kind in his hard way to a surly half-orc boy, one of the few who had been, so Karn had decided to meet Hosk and pass on word of his uncles fate.

He was surprised at how glad Daviren was to hear of Snorri.
It seemed his Uncles tale had been true, he had put down a band of Goblins with Daviren.

Being given a war trained mount, a military saddle, saddlebags, bit and bridle, 30 days feed and a lifetimes free stabling at the Goblin squash stable surprised Karn even more!

No one has ever really given Karn anything for free before this. he's sincerely grateful to Daviren and has been helping him out at the stables with heavy lifting and other chores since then.

He spends his days helping Daviren, exploring Sandpoint, learning to ride Stomper (named for what he does to anyone underfoot) and sleeping on clean straw in the stable at night.

Karn is a burly, tall Half-orc, He rarely displays emotion and tends to let others do the talking while he observes quietly.

He is running low on coin though and is looking for any opportunities around to make some money. Preferably honestly if possible.

If he lives long enough Karn will take a level or two of Rogue to reflect his background.

Dot. Looking at possibly a Warpriest or Oracle.

GM Wasted and I worked together on Alkan's backstory during the initial RotRL recruitment. I rolled the 2d6+6 method when he was created. Sadly he just missed becoming a member of the table, but told GM Wasted Alkan had too good a backstory to just delete, so I kept him around, for instances just like this.

Rolls, btw:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15

what did you have in mind?

I'm pretty flexible. If you do a wizard/investigator, then I'd do a divine caster (to fit the requirement that the DM needs filled). I could either do a heavy - not sure how the current group fares for a frontliner - or a Dex cleric, maybe an elf with a bow or something like that. Alternatvely I have an urban druid that I built (game died, could rebuild) or maybe could go further afield (don't really have a shaman idea, but maybe could come up with something).

Here's my submission, have a backstory up soon.

Whee!

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11

Interested. I've been wanting to play RotRL for years.

Does strength or dexterity modify athletics skill?

Dex goes on Athletics.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Waskally - thanks for answering... he's a nice character with some pretty awesome stats! And you have a leg up on the rest of us, so good luck to you, hope you get in this time.

Jesse - warpriests with bows are pretty awesome and you could take that as your favored weapon... but a bow cleric would work too... let me know what you want to do... my background is all written but I'd be glad to alter some of it to make a joint background with you

Grrrr... trying to change my avatar picture for this character but when I click on change it just says 'that name is use by another character'... I've got an email in to customer service, but other than that, I'm at a loss how to change it... I think there's something wrong with the site, because this has never happened to me before.

Hmm... I might take some inspiration from Urf and BC4Realz and go goblinoid. I'm thinking a Hobgoblin Cavalier (Emissary) could be fun. Maybe even go Order of the Beast so I can change my mount into a dragon at later levels! *maniacal laughter*

Urf already Emissary cavalier! Don't try and steal Urf's thunder! Urf and Itchy Butt already best cavalier and mount combo!

I'll apply with a paladin sometime within the span of the next two days :)

Oops! Sorry 'bout that! Didn't look closely enough at your character.

In that case, I may need to do some more looking around. Perhaps an alchemist of some sort then...

Query for the GM: you mentioned losing your divine caster. Are you looking for a healer specifically? I was thinking of a neutral Dhampir Warpriest who channels negative energy. He could heal himself, but wouldn't be much use to the rest of the party, healing-wise. If you are looking specifically for a healer, I'll go another direction.

Sovereign Court

i can't seem to find campaign traits... and i have the player's guide.

where would i find those?

Campaign Traits

You can find them here if you are to lazy to download the guide ;)

If people are wondering we have a Fighter, vigilante, rogue and tattoed sorcerer in the party right now.

Kitsune is an uncommon race not featured so you might not be allowed to use it.

Grand Lodge

This is interesting. I left a RotRL game due to it shifting from what it originally was to a homebrew setting.

This character is built with 20 pb and it is a musket master gunslinger. Will change it to the bolt ace when I get to my computer.

Dotting and rolling, maybe this time I can finally go past chapter 1...
