Ambitious and long term undertaking.
I will be running a full Skull and Shackles campaign with PFS characters. S&S itself is not self-sufficient for advancement of PFS characters within the framework, so I'll be weaving in Dragon's Demand. Between the two, there's enough to maintain advancement at least through level 8 (with one hole I'll plug with either another module or several scenarios).
I will be looking for participation by characters through the entire campaign (not drop-ins only for sanctioned content). With that said, I will also be signaling when characters are 'locked' (currently within PFS sanctioned content) and when they are 'free'. At the beginning of each 'locked' section, I will be asking players to ensure their characters are both PFS-legal, supported by Chronicle sheets, and remain within subtier constraints. After each section of sanctioned content, I will be providing Chronicle sheets, and doing the registration with PFS.
When characters are 'free', players are encouraged to take 'em out for a spin in other sanctioned play - games days, home games, whatever. Just get me a copy of the Chronicle. As long as the character remains 'in tier', that's great.
Expected posting rate will be roughly one post per day. Communication about lags or breaks is encouraged and expected (real life happens to all of us). Communication is important - that's what the discussion thread is for.
So - I'm looking for six scurvy dogs with some reason to be in Port Peril. I'll be accepting submissions through 1/11. Questions/clarifications/setup for several days, then setting sail 1/14. All characters must be PFS legal. In campaign, characters' faction alliances will be discounted (more than ignored - 'retconned' out of existence..). For PFS purposes, faction declarations will be recorded and credited. Players that have not received credit for any of Dragon's Demand or S&S will be given strong preference.
So down your cup of grog, hoist the sails, and set a steady course for the Shackles, where plunder and infamy galore await those who can seize it!

Farmer Mo of Tumwater |
Hello! I'm very interested, is there still room? I'm a newer player but I have decades of RPG experience. The only module I've completed is The Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment. I'm currently playing in The Confirmation with my character Dagon, and post at least 1-3 times a day.
I have a couple characters that are PFS legal and ready or almost ready to go and will have them typed in the next 36 hours. I look forward to your reply.

Your words seem like they're spoken from experience :)
I've been a GM for 36 years now, so yeah. :-)
Hello! I'm very interested, is there still room?
There is. We're just discussing how there are so far only three (now four, with you) applicants for the game. So there's plenty of room for you, Mo. Note that we're not getting underway for nearly a full month, so there's no rush.
I suspect that the majority have chosen the non-PFS version to play. Personally, I chose this version of the game because I thought it might mean a slightly lower chance of truly wacky PC's that would break the suspension of disbelief.

<shrug> I chose to apply primarily to the other listing because this one is going to have characters doing other things between bits. I have an easier time with consistent characters and character growth (even weird ones) across a single story than I do with MANY weird characters.
I'm not fool enough to say there aren't characters weird enough to be a problem on their own!

What tier will this start at? Seaweed is level 3. I have a wizard at level 1 that I will probably rebuild before level 2. I will have the credits for such a rebuild, but not until after the PbP online game day. I can also start a new character, though I never get the time to play the ones I already have. This is OK for me if I keep the same character, I dinnae need it to specific to PFS (though I am fine building one that way.
I am hoping to read the the S&S player's guide tomorrow for character inspiration. In short, I am still interested, but have not moved this high enough on the to do list.

The GM mentioned using Dragon's Demand to fill up the level requirements, so you should be fine.

@Curaigh - there's time. I intentionally left the recruitment open across the holidays so people could hit it at their own pace.
The intention is to start at level 1, but since I'm running this on a PFS basis, and the first sanctioned content is tier 1-3 (dragon's demand part 1), as long as your character isn't out-of-tier by the time we hit the sanctioned content, I'm good with that. :) Them was the ground rules, matey, and I'll stand by 'em. :)
Waltz Danuben |
Hey! This is farmer Mo. Sorry it took a little longer than 36 hours to post my character, but here he is. I still need to buy equipment, I'll have that done tomorrow. I've prepared a background, somewhat brief as not to bore. If you'd like it longer please let me know. I'd have no problem fleshing out the details.

so i'm curious if this would provide opportunities to explore some character background specifics that would normally go overlooked in PFS. basically, i have a character that adventures because he's looking for his sister and it would be cool if that could be incorporated in a way that wouldn't really affect PFS legality and whatnot.
utopianGM_A |
@cuatroespada - absolutely. The PFS-only game will run as a campaign, rather than a series of disconnected adventures. As GM, I'll also be aware that the characters are available for 'off-camera' activities as well. As I said earlier, as GM/player we can decide case-by-case whether to ignore those, or patch the story to accommodate. One example I was considering was specialty equipment on Chronicle sheets (I've got a character with a 'mask of intimidation' from one PFS game..) - or conditions, or boons, or whatever. But in terms of additional character story-line elements - woo hoo! I look forward to weaving stories with PFS-legal/capable characters.
Shayla Amye |
Hereby submitting Shayla Amye, an elf ranger. She's come to Port Peril after hearing rumors about the plunder from decades of piracy, hidden in sea caves beneath the city. Curious to find out if these rumors are true, Shayla plans to investigate them.
The expected posting rate will be no problem, as I usually am able to post several times a day.
Shayla's only been in one Pathfinder scenario so far, which is The Glass River Rescue. I won't be able to take her out and use her in anything like games days or home games when she's 'free', because we don't have those in my area. So staying in tier won't be too difficult.
cuatroespada |
i guess, i'll also throw Gil (elven bladebound hexcrafter) out there too. when they were very young, he and his sister were taken and raised in a cult that worshiped an old god. his sister was very talented with magic and seemed to have a special connection to the cultist's god. their adoptive mother, the leader of the cultists, hungry for power, attempted to use her daughter in a ritual to perhaps steal some of the god's power or who knows what. Gil is unsure as he was still very young, but he does remember interrupting the ritual causing his sister, "mother", himself, and several bystanders to be transported to unknown destinations. the young elf found himself among the wayang people of Golarion (it doesn't matter to me if he's actually from Golarion or not) where he spent his youth until he felt he was strong enough to set out on his own. from there he has set sail looking for answers to how he can find his sister.

I am still interested, but I wanted to clarify one thing. Is this campaign mode or the other one. If it is the other one, can we as players switch characters at some point (when they are free for example?) In one case I will be adding the PFS-5, in the other I will wait. In both cases I am looking at shark shaman at level 1 (& I want to make sure there are no ACG classes I might prefer :)
If you will still have me that is. :)
Jeffrey Warren |
Applying with Jeffrey Warren, my brand new character. His background contains a reason to be in Port Peril :)
@GM: I'm the same person that applied with Shayla Amye. I'll withdraw her in favor of Jeffrey, unless you like her better.
utopianGM_A |
@Cuiragh - go ahead and get the submission in. there will be opportunities to 'swap out' if you're interested, though I'd like to see continuing characters. Looking forward to a final submission.
