...The bard...

C'mon. You knew that I was going to say that! My friends joke that I always play bards, even when some other class is being played.

Though I'm now playing in a home game my first arguably non-bard character, and he's a hoot. Eddie Corkbiter is a half-orc Draconic blooodrager 1 / beastmorph + vivisectionist alchemist X with a dragon-winged monkey familiar. "Don't make me bring out the flying monkey!" The group said they wanted a tank or a little arcane support, and they're getting both from me. A clever half-orc scientist who's constantly experimenting on himself and his familiar, Eddie's motto is "Better living through chemistry."

Alchemists make awesome mad scientists. And with Jekkyl (my valet familiar) I even have an Igor to work with me on my alchemical creations.

PFS 5-08 Battle Map

I'd love to DM another scenario if you all are up for it. We can go over a list of scenarios and see if there's something you all want to play.

I'll have the chronicle sheets done after the holidays.

Nimerah, I have no objection to running a party with 2 alchemists ;)

@Feth - Heh! I'll certainly keep that in mind, then. If we're thinking of making this a thing or a semi-regular thing then Nella might make a better fit since she can cleric it up; there's plenty of skill and damage capacity already if everyone else chooses to keep the same characters. Of course there's also no reason why we can't just keep playing together but switch characters in and out as needed.

@Rohini - Totally different topic, but I saw your thread for your Eberron game and it makes me very sad because I'd love to try a steampunk setting but I don't know that I could handle adding anymore games to my plate. But...investigatory steampunk.... ;_;

With all this talk of alchemy I thought momentarily about making one and thought I'd name her Ace and then I realized that my first instinct when naming a RPG character is to name them after Doctor Who companions who share a trait with them. (For non-Whovians, Leela was a barbarian who travelled with the Fourth Doctor and Ace is a girl who travelled with the Seventh Doctor and liked to make bombs. She was 16 when she started travelling with him, I think she was in her late or mid 20s when she struck out on her own. She blew stuff up a little less when she grew up.)

So do you guys understand how loot works in Society play? We get the money from the adventure and the option to purchase mundane items or the items listed on our Chronicle sheets. While we're all still first level, you also have the option to sell back unwanted equipment for full price or rebuild any aspect of the character that you don't like.

Want to choose different feats, traits or skills? You can.

Another thing to consider is that you have 2 prestige points. It is usually recommended that you spend those points after your first adventure on a wand of cure light wounds. Why? So that when you ask someone to heal you, you're using your own resources, not theirs. Does this make sense?

Hmm

Ps I'd love to keep the band together if you're all up for it.

Exotic Weapon Proficiency (bastard sword): Choose one type of exotic weapon, such as the spiked chain or whip. You understand how to use that type of exotic weapon in combat, and can utilize any special tricks or qualities that exotic weapon might allow.

Power Attack: You can choose to take a –1 penalty on all melee attack rolls and combat maneuver checks to gain a +2 bonus on all melee damage rolls. This bonus to damage is increased by half (+50%) if you are making an attack with a two-handed weapon, a one handed weapon using two hands, or a primary natural weapon that adds 1-1/2 times your Strength modifier on damage rolls. This bonus to damage is halved (–50%) if you are making an attack with an off-hand weapon or secondary natural weapon.
When your base attack bonus reaches +4, and every 4 points thereafter, the penalty increases by –1 and the bonus to damage increases by +2.
You must choose to use this feat before making an attack roll, and its effects last until your next turn. The bonus damage does not apply to touch attacks or effects that do not deal hit point damage.

--------------------
Traits
--------------------
Courageous: Your childhood was brutal, but you persevered through force of will and faith. No matter how hard things got, you knew you'd make it through as long as you kept a level head.
Benefit: You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against fear effects.

You made your first kill at a very young age and found the task of war or murder to your liking. You either take particular pride in a well-placed blow, or find vile pleasure in twisting the blade to maximize your target's pain.
Benefit: You deal an amount of additional damage equal to your weapon's critical hit modifier when you score a successful critical hit with a weapon; this additional damage is added to the final total, and is not multiplied by the critical hit multiple itself. This extra damage is a trait bonus.

Other Gear: hide armor, Large bastard sword, shortbow with 20 arrows, backpack, bedroll, caltrops, flint and steel, hemp rope (50 ft.), shovel, torches (5), trail rations (4), waterskin, 14 gp
--------------------
Special Abilities
--------------------
Fast Movement: A barbarian's land speed is faster than the norm for her race by +10 feet. This benefit applies only when he is wearing no armor, light armor, or medium armor, and not carrying a heavy load. Apply this bonus before modifying the barbarian's speed because of any load carried or armor worn. This bonus stacks with any other bonuses to the barbarian's land speed.

Large Bastard Sword: Large Bastard Sword The sword Leela carries is difficult for her to wield because it was created to be swung by a giant. She takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls with the sword (this is already calculated into her attack bonus). Though a bastard sword can normally be wielded in one hand, Amiri must use two hands because the sword is sized for a Large creature. The sword deals 2d8 points of damage because of its Large size.

Rage: A barbarian can call upon inner reserves of strength and ferocity, granting her additional combat prowess. Starting at 1st level, a barbarian can rage for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + her Constitution modifier. At each level after 1st, she can rage for 2 additional rounds. Temporary increases to Constitution, such as those gained from rage and spells likebear's endurance, do not increase the total number of rounds that a barbarian can rage per day. A barbarian can enter rage as a free action. The total number of rounds of rage per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours do not need to be consecutive.
While in rage, a barbarian gains a +4 morale bonus to her Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase to Constitution grants the barbarian 2 hit points per Hit Dice, but these disappear when the rage ends and are not lost first like temporary hit points. While in rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly,Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.
A barbarian can end her rage as a free action and is fatigued after rage for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage. A barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted but can otherwise enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat. If a barbarian falls unconscious, her rage immediately ends, placing her in peril of death.

Special Abilities
--------------------
Animal Companion: At 1st level, a hunter forms a bond with an animal companion. A hunter may begin play with any of the animals available to a druid. This animal is a loyal companion that accompanies the hunter on her adventures. This ability functions like the druid animal companion ability (which is part of the nature bond class feature). The hunter's effective druid level is equal to her hunter level. If a character receives an animal companion from more than one source, her effective druid levels stack for the purposes of determining the companion's statistics and abilities. A hunter may teach her companion hunter's tricks from the skirmisher ranger archetype instead of standard tricks. The animal companion can use skirmisher tricks when commanded, a number of times per day equal to half its Hit Dice plus its Wisdom modifier.

Animal Focus: At 1st level, a hunter can take on the aspect of an animal as a swift action. She must select one type of animal to emulate, gaining a bonus or special ability based on the type of animal emulated and her hunter level. The hunter can use this ability for a number of minutes per day equal to her level. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but must be spent in 1-minute increments. The hunter can emulate only one animal at a time. If the hunter's animal companion is dead, the hunter can apply her companion's animal focus to herself instead of her animal companion. This is in addition to the normal one she can choose, and (as with a companion's focus) remains in effect until the hunter changes it instead of counting against her minutes per day.
Bat: The creature gains darkvision to a range of 60 feet. At 8th level, the range increases by 30 feet. At 15th level, the creature also gains blindsense to a range of 10 feet.
Bear: The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Constitution. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Bull: The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Falcon: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Perception checks. This bonus increases to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Frog: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Swim checks and on Acrobatics checks to jump. These bonuses increase to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Monkey: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Climb checks. This bonus increases to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Mouse: The creature gains evasion, as the rogue class feature. At 12th level, this increases to improved evasion, as the rogue advanced talent.
Owl: The creature gains a +4 competence bonus on Stealth checks. This bonus increases to +6 at 8th level and +8 at 15th level.
Snake: The creature gains a +2 bonus on attack rolls when making attacks of opportunity and a +2 dodge bonus to AC against attacks of opportunity. These bonuses increase to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Stag: The creature gains a 5-foot enhancement bonus to its base land speed. This bonus increases to 10 feet at 8th level and 20 feet at 15th level.
Tiger: The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Dexterity. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.
Wolf: The creature gains the scent ability with a range of 10 feet. The range of this sense increases to 20 feet at 8th level and 30 feet at 15th level. The range doubles if the opponent is upwind, and is halved if the opponent is downwind.

Nature Training: A hunter counts her total hunter level as both druid levels and ranger levels for the purpose of qualifying for feats, traits, and options that modify or improve an animal companion.

Wild Empathy: A hunter can improve the initial attitude of an animal. This ability functions as a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person. The hunter rolls 1d20 and adds her hunter level and her Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.
To use wild empathy, the hunter and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.
The hunter can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but she takes a –4 penalty on the check.

An aspect applied in this way does not count against the hunter's minutes of duration per day—it remains in effect until the hunter changes it. The companion's aspect can be the same aspect the ranger has taken on or a different one. The hunter can select or change the animal foci on both herself and her animal companion as part of the same swift action.
Bull:The creature gains a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level and +6 at 15th level.

Depression can be like that. I'm finally making headway on mine. I've been self-treating with yoga, weights, aikido and walking. I feel great when I do the exercise, unfortunately, depression really saps your will to leap in and make progress. So it can be so hard to get started.

I've been really lucky that Bret nags me gently. "Hilary, I'd like to take you out to lunch in an hour. Have you gotten your workout in? Why don't you do it now?" "Hilary, want to take a walk?" "Hilary, did you get a chance to do your yoga yet?"

I'm blessed with my partner.

I'd be down for evergreens, or something else if people are interested. Consortium Compact (the new evergreen) is legit.

No worries Feth, I think most of us have at least some experience with depression whether in the long or short term. I'm still okay to play another scenario when everyone feels ready and up to it. I may very well bring my cleric along for the next one since she just needs one more to get 2nd level.

I'm really glad you posted here, I just had an 'oh s$&&!' moment; I completely forgot that I still needed to get you guys your Chronicle sheets.

I've got a checklist of stuff I need to get done. I need to help Leela/Aislinn with any edits to their characters, then I want to take a look at scenarios. I'd like to give you guys a couple of options and have everybody vote on which one they'd like best.

I can always nag Aislinn/Leela to ask for you advice as well. I need to get back on that.

Thanks. Feel free to contact me to work on that any time.
