Yeah, I think I'll bow out. I've been slammed at work with no sign of letting up, and I've been slacking too much on this game. Thanks for the great game. It's been fun gaming with all of you.

caster4life |

Haha. Galinndan kind of ninja'ed me. If the group is ready to move on, someone second his motion.
Yes you'll want to be VERY prepared before fighting a medusa, not that I'm saying that's in the next chamber. You just know it's somewhere around here. We could easily lose a character without a good means to restore them for quite some time.

Galinndan Siannodel |

It happens! :D
Yeah, we have mirrors and crystals. I'd rather take disadvantage for a few attacks than take more risks with the saving throws.

caster4life |

Well looking through a crystal just gives you advantage on the save, not immunity. I would say a mirror does the same thing. Unless surprised, you can constantly avert your eyes, if you wish, but then you can't see the medusa at all so it would also get advantage on attack rolls on you in that case. You can probably make perc checks to figure out where it is, unless it decides to be stealthy.

Kargoroth |

Hello to everyone, thank you for the selection :)

caster4life |

Good to have you. This game could use some fresh legs to help it keep pressing forward.

Professor Rankle Boomtop |

Into the discussion thread!
I've been dying for something a little more rules-lite for a while so this should be fun! Also I'm going out of my human master race comfort zone so I'm a little excited.

caster4life |

Hi! Yes 5e is rather rules-lite, which can make it fast-flowing.
As a reminder to those who have heard before, my system is that you can look at most spoilers as long as you keep IC and OOC separate. But if a spoiler has an exclamation point on its condition, then only look if you satisfy those conditions.
The party is currently stuck in a place where there are a bunch of medusa-created stone statues, some of which are animated (by something the party doesn't know about yet). The fastest option for getting you two integrated into the party is for you guys to have wandered into the medusa's lair on the outskirts of Blingdenstone and been petrified. I can loot drop some scrolls so they can release you and you can hang out with them until they get back into town. Then they'll be looking for a way to get to the surface because there are Drow very, very, very hot on their trail. Thoughts? Tweaks? Alternatives you'd like to discuss?

Kargoroth |

I see no problem with it. Kar was chasing after some evildoer who'd tricked him, so he might have probably run into the Medusa without noticing due to all his haste, then he got to know Mr Michaelangelo the fast and hard way...

Professor Rankle Boomtop |

Works for me. He's trying to extend the life of Deep Gnomes so petrification might be one of his trials... And it's hard to get people to volunteer.

Professor Rankle Boomtop |

Quick question. I've played with GMs that are iffy on Keen Mind because it invalidates some stuff or becomes a little weird to GM. Are you okay with it? Otherwise I can swap it for something else.
Thanks for the response when it comes!

Odak Boulderfall |

Welcome to the game!
As to Keen Mind, IMO it is an under utilized feat. I’m not the GM though.

caster4life |

I'm fine with keen mind. Often, players forget something that happened IC because IRL, it was four months ago. I'm happy to have a mechanically-validated reason to remind them. And keen mind seems very in keeping with Rankle's flavor.
Ok that's what I'm going to go with then for your introduction.

Professor Rankle Boomtop |

Possible unanswerable question but how bad is Poison Spray? Is everything in the Underdark basically immune to Poison damage?
I've always liked the melee aspect of the Cantrip and now I have the bulk to safely utilize it but I don't think it's that great down with all these monsters.

caster4life |

Eh... there's a high degree of poison immunity but certainly not everything is immune.
I'm saying that one of you brought three scrolls of stone to flesh when investigating these statues in order to explain a very targeted loot drop. Which one and why?

Kargoroth |

Professor Rankle Boomtop |

I would make the most sense considering he went down for this explicit purpose.

Odak Boulderfall |

I tend to avoid poison damage personally. I feel that it is more resisted/immune than Fire. It’s bad enough when you can get a bad guy to fail a save *cough* but to get by the save/ac threshold and have the spell resisted or ignored is just.... UGH!

Galinndan Siannodel |

I will likely be unavailable tomorrow so feel free to bot Galinndan if necessary.

caster4life |

I'll be mostly, if not entirely, out of contact from today until Jan 1. Enjoy the holidays!

Professor Rankle Boomtop |

I just realized Acid Splash isn't a Spell Attack in this game.
Oops. Dead Infusion for the day.
I also changed the Green Statue to myself, I hope you're alright with that editing for sake of expediency.

caster4life |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Yes please. I like it when players actively edit the map within reason. Makes things faster/smoother for everyone. I have one player in another game who will even leave arrow traces to show specific movement if it is important or counterintuitive.

Odak Boulderfall |

I often forget when we’re using maps. I play mostly from my phone and it is difficult to say the least to edit the maps.

caster4life |

Yeah that works better for your build since you don't really zip around the battlefield a lot or cast control spells. You have a more single-target focus.

caster4life |

Are you talking about this post? Because according to my spreadsheet, you guys haven't quite taken down one of the statues yet.

Odak Boulderfall |

Yeah, I looked after my post last night. I had missed the “nearly” part.

Kargoroth |

D6 extra Damage comes from the Hunter's Mark spell. I will post Kar's actions as soon as my GF goes to bed (so then I'll have access to the computer xD)

Galinndan Siannodel |

It's a great spell. :)
I may not be available to post at all tomorrow.

caster4life |

Yeah this is a pretty sloggy encounter. The statues have AC 18 and 33 hp so it takes a long time to break through them.

Odak Boulderfall |

Ogremoch’s Bane seems like it could be a chance for Odak’s story to develope. A thought I’d had was perhaps this sentient mist was what Odak’s military patrol encountered years ago, before it found its way to where it is in the story currently. Something to do with coming into contact with the mist bestowed his connection to earth powers, but also damaged his mind in n the process. Thoughts?

Galinndan Siannodel |

@Odak, I think that sounds like quite a cool angle.

caster4life |

Odak: I love it. Bringing a character's backstory into the game certainly makes things more fun! I'll PM you some details.

Kargoroth |

The paladin contentedly goes to sleep in the tiny beds, convinced he's a skilled craftsman.
Loved that XD Everybody knows, though, I'm no skilled craftsman... I'm a skilled engineer! :)

Odak Boulderfall |

I honestly don’t remember much loot at all since I’ve started with the thread. Any chance at a loan for the goggles?

caster4life |

Yeah most of the loot in the adventure happened before you were here. There will be more in a bit.
Regarding loot, I do trust the party to track their own loot. Galenus was a big part of that so hopefully Galinndan can clarify what you all have and what you don't. You can assume Galenus donates his loot to the party.

Galinndan Siannodel |

I'll get to catch up and post tomorrow.

Galinndan Siannodel |

I'm not trusting my tired eyes to not miss loot. So I will look over that tomorrow. Posting shortly.

Galinndan Siannodel |

Working backwards, I see the Large Diamond (500g) was the last row of loot noted in this post. Now, I'll work forward.
*a little later*
I've added anything that I spotted. I've replaced various gems and art with sale price in gold, except diamonds. We might well need those!
If I missed anything, make it known and/or correct it!
I've had a few delays in getting time for pbp recently so I don't think I should be the primary loot manager.
Any volunteers?

caster4life |

I'm happy to create an inventory spreadsheet and put a sticky link to it up top. But I won't be populating it or making sure you divvy up the loot as I definitely believe that's the players' job.

caster4life |

Ok I've added a new, official sheet to the party loot link. Please put your inventory under your name there as that is where we will officially track loot. As we get new loot, I will plop it into the unclaimed section there and you can do what you want with it. For example, there is a scroll of dispel evil and good in the unclaimed now that someone should move to their personal column.
As an added incentive to get loot tracking back on the right foot, I'll give an inspiration to everyone who updates their inventory onto our new official spreadsheet. Then you guys will have to take it from here.
