All: Certain levels take longer to advance between than others. Advancing from 3 to 4 is one of the slow ones in 5e, in terms of the number of level-appropriate encounters needed to advance. The theory is that certain levels provide more gains in class features and thus you need a little more time getting used to them before advancing. This is reasonable to me as at level 3 people gain archetypes and often 2nd-level spells. So just note that, while it might feel like it's taking forever, you're getting there and there's a reason for the level pacing.

Hmmm.... realizing that I let Galenus keep a melee attack roll instead of rerolling when he switched it to throwing an axe so I should have let Kanzen do the same when switching from a sword to a bow. My mistake. These things slip my mind, especially since there were action-packed holiday days in between. Sorry Hewy! I'll retcon that as your shot hitting. Damage to the spectator has been updated in my records.

No worries, I thought re-rolling was a fair call too - I'm a DM more often than a player, I feel ya :)


I personally don't feel the need to re-roll attacks like that. Not when it's a simple mistake of not being able to attack something in melee..

Just to prevent any frustration, I realize that the three targeted by lighting bolt are not all in the same row. However, that doesn't prevent me from drawing a slightly diagonal line through them. There's nothing in the spell that says the line has to fall along the arbitrary grid of the battlemap. You guys are welcome to do this to my monsters as well.

Unfortunately the fourth level ability score increase comes from four levels in a single class. It's a class feature, not a built in feature.

To me experience is experience regardless of if it's the same class or different ones, so I would ask for a house rule for myself and Kanzen on the subject. If you decide no that's fine and she will just be behind the curve on ability bumps.

Yeah I'm going to say no. It's definitely RAI that the ability score increase comes with 4 levels of a given class. Generally, the asi is the only feature a class gets at level 4. So a level 4 MC character who got an ASI would have one more level's worth of features.

Some classes get ASI faster than every four levels. Fighters and rogues, in particular. Part of the cost of multiclassing and getting all those extra cool abilities is that you don't get as many ASI.

I could live with either way, but I'm inclined towards leaving it as it is, given that some classes do get ASIs faster.

190 xp to Galenus for his investigations of the obelisk and 190 xp to Irdril for interrogating the corpse and getting some useful info. Galenus bumps up to level 4 as well.

All: Remember that being proactive and helping advance the party's goals gets you XP! It adds up over time. No one is going to fall behind longterm but you might be a level behind for one fight and then catch up after the fight.

Unsure on feat. Torn between the following: Dungeon Deliver, Linguist, Observant, Warcaster.

Warcaster is good because I'm more of a melee wizard, but I barely have any combat spells. Dungeon Deliver and Observant fit my character well, but we already have so many rangers to keep an eye out for everything. Linguist may help us all in the long run and make me more bookish.

Other ideas are welcome. Looking for less combat optimization and more on things that fit the character.
