I have no problem with players attempting deception checks against other players if it is consistent with their character, not undermining or sabotaging the party's goals, and not being annoying or frustrating.
Intimidation and persuasion are a bit different. Discussions within the party are driven by reasoning and roleplay, not skill checks. You can make one of these skill checks but I want to make sure we are all on the same page that this only serves to give some measure to your post. Examples below if you're interested.
"Attacking the chieftain head on will likely put as at great risk." said the calm and charming sorcerer.
Intimidate:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
"Listen to me or I'll punch you all!" yelled the puny wizard.
Persuasion:1d20 - 3 ⇒ (10) - 3 = 7
It's completely up to the other party members how they respond to each comment. The roll only gives some context as to how the person was speaking. Characters should respond in sensible ways. E.g. a barbarian who has no respect for caution or logic might completely disregard the sorcerer's well-said advice while a paladin who pities the weak might quietly listen to the wizard in the second example.
Mariner fighting style:
Thanks to some Sage Advice I've realized that having a swim speed and climb speed doesn't eliminate the need to make those checks. It just makes you a lot faster when you are using those modes of movement, assuming you pass your checks. I don't think this makes mariner bad as it still provides +1 to ac, which makes it strictly better than the defense fighting style if you don't wear heavy armor. But if Cyrus wants to switch his fighting style based on this update of my rules understanding, that's completely fine.
Action Surge* 0/1 | Divine Sense 3/3 | Faerie Fire 1/1 | Lay on Hands 10/10 | Second Wind* 1/1 | Spell Slots 0/2 | HD: 4d10
HP: 27/32 | AC: 17 | Acr +5, Ath +3, Perc +2, Pers +4, Stl +5 | Saves: Str +3*, Dex +3, Con +3*, Int -1, Wis +0, Cha +2 | Init: +3 | Passive Perception 12 | Speed 30ft (swim, climb) | Inspiration: Y | Hit Dice: 4d10 | Active conditions: Madness (2)
I'll still be going Mariner style in two levels time, it's the only choice for paladin that synergises with TWF. And it's still pretty awesome and useful.
And I agree completely with the intra-PC social stuff. If someone rolls a great intimidation or persuasion check, I'm not going to just do whatever they say. As you say, deception vs insight is a bit different - if a PC tries to deceive me and beats my insight roll, I'd happily pretend like I believe them. But I'm not giving over my items because you made a sweet intimidation/persuasion roll! The difference is, a good deception check just stops my PC from gaining extra info, whereas intimidation or persuasion checks force my PC to do something I didn't choose, or lose something I should be able to keep.
Yes. Now I think it's ok to use those skills to provide RP flavor to react to. In Irdril's case, Galenus could RP his stubbornness about treasure more because Irdril gave a convincing and persuasive speech.

Yep totally. And it gives you the option, too. Even though he didn't, Galenus may have chosen to relent, whereas a poorly rolled attempt would be brushed aside without a thought.
I will be away for both of the next two weekends. I should still be able to post at points during both, but less regularly than usual for me at weekends.
Would normally want to provide a more flavored post but am at research conference and didn't want to make you guys wait 5 hours until I get to my hotel tonight.
How do we use the inspiration ability of our NPC card? Is that unlocked at a certain time, or do we use a special version of inspiration, or do we spend our own?

Galenus, I agree with your surrender call entirely, but as there's nothing much to lose here from a meta point of view (they're attack with nonlethal), I'm going to have Kanzen keep fighting furiously. I'm sure if y'all surrender but me they'll just drop me then accept your surrender.
20 XP Cyrus for healing the healer. That is appreciated. 20 XP to the rangers for feeding the party on the way to civilization hear. 40 xp to Irdril for lots of healing along the way. Check to see if you hit level 3 then post your level up changes here!
I'm likely to stick with Ranger. It suits Galinndan's 'hunter' modus operandi very well.
Level 3 Revised Ranger
+8 Hp -> 28 Hp
Class Features:
Primeval Awareness
Ranger Conclave
Deep Stalker Conclave
Underdark Scout (On your first turn during combat, you gain a +10 bonus to your speed, and if you use the Attack action, you can make one additional attack. Creatures with darkvision gain no benefit when attempting to detect you in dark and dim conditions)
Deep Stalker Magic (Darkvision 90ft, disguise self)
I like this idea of a colossus-slaying goblin quite a bit.
Makes sense, Kanzen! You might not go Pally right away because that requires a special connection to one's deity but he's getting there!
Cool, Irdril. I like the warlock/bard multiclass, especially given the long days you guys have to go through pretty regularly.
Nice, Galinndan. A cool mobile striker build with the deep stalker/zephyr strike combo.
Is it clear to everyone what is going on right now? The archpriest of the Sea Mother (aka Deep Mother) wants to present you as peace offerings to his daughter, the archpriest of the Deep Father, for her to sacrifice in a very bloody fashion. But he doesn't actually intend to let you die. Instead, he's planning to attack her and destroy her cult using you guys as bait.
