I'm afraid i'm going to have to bow out of consideration. I've been working on preparing for a RotRL game I'll be running for my local group and have found it is chewing up the majority my free time. There are a ton of NPC's to memorize and flesh out. I haven't had time to look more into my preposed character concept for this one any more than my inital couple posts. I apologize and wish you all great fun in the campaign!
I'm currently DMing this AP in real life for friends, but I'm able to compartmentalize and am desperate to roleplay this AP since my players have long since abandoned talking in favor of murdering anyone from a snow-like country. I'm afraid for the Nordic nations if my friends ever travel there.
Ivan "Vanya" Kolavic was raised to protect his sister, Valeriya. The two children were lucky enough to be born to a Jadviga mother, and spent their early years in relative comfort close to the border of the Mammoth Lords.
Vanya's mother, a far flung descendant of Queen Elvanna, was almost universally ignored by the ruling class of Jadwiga above her. In this sphere of neglect, her predator instincts mellowed, and her children grew up feeling something akin to love from their parents.
Unlike Vanya, his sister was born with the magic of their mother. It soon became his duty to look after her, and that duty was more important than he recognized because of the dangers of Irrisen.
As violent and cold as the wilds of Irrisen could be, it wasn't the land that killed his sister. It was his great aunt. Apparently, his mother had failed the Jadwiga in some task, and, since she was still useful, her daughter had to pay the price.
Vanya was meant to die too, but his father hired a Mammoth Lord mercenary to take him to the land of Taldor to the south. Here, at the age of 18, he buried his grief in work as a hired hand on a farm west of Heldren.
Even through the pain, the man grew to love the relative warmth of Taldor and took to plants and tending them.
A few years later, having convinced himself that Irrisen was forever behind him, Vanya moved to Heldren and took up the job of gardener for the local herbalist, Tessaraea. The quiet of the town suited him, and the fertile soil beneath his fingers reminded Vanya that there was still a piece of the world not touched by the Jadwiga.
I was struggling to come up with an idea for a character until I saw the Witch Guard ranger archetype in Herolab and the idea struck me. Vanya still believes he failed in protecting his sister, and, ideally, there will be a mage in the party for him to mother over and viciously act as a guard dog for.
Vanya, now that he is far removed from the awfulness of Irrisen, has become relatively calm and peaceful. He is almost jovial and quick to tell horrible jokes if it means it gets Tessaraea to laugh in the process.
When dark moods strike him, he heads into the woods and hunts for wild game and herbs. The quiet soothes him, and his natural temper evens out over a matter of hours.
His beliefs are more concrete. Vanya believes that the world would be better off without the "extended family" of the Jadwiga. He also believes that he's already lost his opportunity to do anything about it because of his failure protecting his sister.
While raised in wealth and relative comfort, his last ten years have been ones of hard work and struggle, and Vanya now understands just how much he didn't understand about the world as a child.

Hello there everybody. My apologies for leaving the date of my reveal so undefined. I had a hectic schedule this week and didn't want to fail you guys by not getting my decisions up at the right time.
And thanks everybody, really. Way to go. Thanks for making this decision so goddamn difficult. You people and your interesting characters *grumble grumble...
It wasn't an easy decision by any means, and please remember that just because your character wasn't chosen doesn't mean I didn't like them or thought something terrible was wrong with them. I chose the people who's backstories meshed into a group who's story I'd like to tell. The choice was so hard, in fact, that I couldn't just settle on a party of six. I'd have liked to run two groups, but I knew it would prove a bit too much so I had to compromise by increasing the party size to 8.
