If it's reduce person, the animals should be immune since the spell only affects humanoids. Is that the case, or did you mean to use a different spell?
I had overlooked that part of the spell description.
Katrine and the dogs are the only normal-sized party members right now.
Pelipe cast enlarge person on Ahto to counteract the spell. Did this work, or am I still small?

DM Vayelan |

After reviewing the spell descriptions, I believe that casting Enlarge Person would counteract the reduce spell without needing a caster check. Thus, Ahto would be normal sized again.
...
Also, I am not sure whether to be irritated or amazed that this is the second oven-related shrinking that Addy has been subject to. I hoped that I was being somewhat creative.
I'm going to go pout behind my GM screen while I start working on my next gameplay post.

Pelipe Lightdriver |

It doesn't matter whether the oven is used, it matters how the bake turns out. Right, GM? And in this one, we have big dogs and a little baby gnome.

Vermilion Vixen |

Nothing to forgive. It felt pretty cool to beat the save, and I wouldn’t have rules-lawyered about HD. I have no problem if you want to embellish a bit on what the fey can do.

DM Vayelan |

(Since it doesn't appear Pelipe's enlarge person has taken effect yet (going by the size of my token on the map), those attacks both miss.)
Yes, since the casting time for Enlarge Person is 1 round, I don't believe it would take effect until after the gnomes would have attacked on the first round.
Also, I love the idea of the poor gnomes poking at Ahto with their spears, then watching in horror as he grows to giant size right before them.

DM Vayelan |

Because VV scored a lucky hit with the arrow, do we now know which is the real Mather (from the arrow in his flank)?
Unfortunately, while looking up FAQs and rulings on this spell, one of the things that was made quite clear is that hitting the real target does not single them out. Essentially, all the copies now appear to have an arrow in their side, too.

Katrine Thalian |

Okay, I'm having a bit of trouble reading the map. Are the fey closest to Katrine and Storm flying or walking? I need to know which ones Storm can get to.

I have a two-word solution.

DM Vayelan |

Okay, I'm having a bit of trouble reading the map. Are the fey closest to Katrine and Storm flying or walking? I need to know which ones Storm can get to.
Apologies. It is somewhat hard to depict everything accurately on this map.
The two tooth fairies next to Storm are actually 20-30 feet up and floating/sitting in "windows" in the trunk of the dead tree.
Although they are at a higher elevation, based on having seen many dogs make running jumps up walls and similar surfaces, I will say that Storm could make it up to bite the one at 20ft elevation with a DC 15 Acrobatics or Jump check as a move action.
So, yeah, basically what the Vixen said.

Katrine Thalian |

Damn, phantasmal killer? I'm so glad Ahto made his Fort save!
Since the tooth fairy tried to attack Storm with its pliers, is it low enough now for him to attack without an Acrobatics check?

The Vermilion Vixen |

@Pelipe, no worries if you have a different move in mind for next round. VV’s just trying to bolster Pelipe into action by saying, “hey, you can really help by…”
This is actually consistent with how I played VV from the start. She had a moment like this when Ash, her wife, froze up as a wyvern lurched over her. (And if you ask VV about that moment, she will tell you how Ash bravely stayed by her side loosing arrows at bandits while VV fought the wyvern. She never mentions Ash freezing up.)

Pelipe Lightdriver |

No worries! I like the interaction! Plus, being maybe one or two good hits from unconsciousness, she’ll do whatever you say.

DM Vayelan |

[dice=Attack of Opportunity]1d20+7+1+3
[dice=Damage]3d6+10+2d6
Okay. Wow. That actually changes things significantly.
That AoO would manage to one shot one of the twigjacks. I'm assuming you target the first twigjack to come at you, correct?
Assuming you target that one, coming from the east, that means its attack would not occur, and it also means that the other ones would not get the flanking bonus or their sneak attack damage.
That would mean that instead of taking 22 damage...you only take 3 damage.

Katrine Thalian |

Ugh, you're really going to make me look up the grapple rules...
Would Katrine take a penalty to attack in order to shoot the nochlean grappling Storm? She does have Precise Shot. I can't find anything that says one way or the other.

Sadly, neither dog gets an automatic trip, but I was hoping to give Sprocket that ability in the future.

I think Precise Shot negates the only penalty for shooting at an enemy that is grappling an ally.

Sorry, Vixen. Wonky is 80 feet away across a very busy battlefield. She's also invisible.
I don't think you'd be able to signal her to do anything.

The Vermilion Vixen |

The Vermilion Vixen wrote:Thanks to Pelipe, my CMD is 22!Thank you for clarifying.
Also, your check succeeds in maintaining the grapple, so you have Nithra pinned.
It’s actually 23… so 21 is normal, but I take -1 to size. I get -1 STR from shrinking and +3 STR from Pelipe. That’s how I got from 21 to 22.
I forgot the +1 DEX from shrinking, so correction: 23!

Pelipe Lightdriver |

Nah, she doesn't have rope. Sorry all, my internet has been patchy this week. It should get fixed Tuesday. I think my modem is dying, so internet has been more out than in.

Pelipe Lightdriver |

I had to dig through my inventory for that, but it was a reasonable item. She'd also have horse hair for a replacement for her bow. Not enough materials to tie up a person like Ahto, I'd imagine, but a little fey, sure!

The Vermilion Vixen |

Ummm…… I think that’s checkmate.
I had to follow that convoluted flowchart, but I needed to have Mather Nithra pinned, have a means of tying him (supplied by Pelipe!!!) and no maintain roll. I roll for the DC, my CMB attack plus 20!
Which was 50 since I rolled a nat.19.

Pelipe Lightdriver |

Yup, and being helpless, he is subject to coup de grace, which Pelipe is 100% going to do if they keep attacking Ahto when he's at 0hp.

![]() |

Sorry, Pelipe, but Wonky had always had plans to make sure that Nithra was dead. I hope it doesn't seem like I'm stealing your kill. Allow me to explain.
Nithra has been using bleaching gnomes as slaves with the promise of healing their illness. It appears that it's a lie and a ruse. Wonky has worked her entire life to date to try to find a cure for The Bleaching for her Dad. This horrible jerk has been profiting off of bleachlings that could just as easily be her Dad.
In her mind, Nithra needs to die. Even helpless and tied up.
On the flip side, Wonky does pathetic amounts of damage with melee weapons.

The Vermilion Vixen |

Somehow, a grig being finished by a somethingteen-inch Wonky makes it not so awful. A 13-foot Ahto would have embedded the grig into the ground with his killing thrust!

Pelipe Lightdriver |

Nonsense. No need to apologize. Pelipe wasn't going to kill him. She's all talk. In her mind, this is your deal. If you wanted to imprison him and extract information he's said about the Bleaching, then that is up to you. If you want to end him, then that too. She just likes Ahto a bit and saw him at 0hp. With her measley 20ft movement currently, she can't go heal him, so she threatened, which was all she could do.

DM Vayelan |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

The Guide to the River Kingdoms sourcebook only describes Mather Nithra and his gang of evil fey causing trouble for the people who live in the Embeth Forest and Uringen. This scheme, extorting the gnomes of Uringen whilst holding their bleached relatives hostage, was an idea that I devised to connect him to your overall goals (and Wonky's backstory).
Thus, I am very proud of myself as a GM for creating an antagonist that party members are almost racing against each other for the chance to kill.
Okay, I'm done tooting my own horn for now.

This one reminds me a bit of the meme going around with the bloodied and battered anime character lying on his back with a single hand raised in a Thumbs-Up, and a caption reading: "When you survive an epic Boss Fight with one hit point left."

Katrine Thalian |

If Katrine hadn't been busy dealing with Nithra's minions, she would have walked over there and chopped his head off with her axe. They were already warned that Uringen's jails probably couldn't hold him, he did horrible things to the gnomes, so clearly he needed to die.
@DM: Yes, excellent job creating an enemy we loved to hate!
IC post coming later, I'm not feeling too good IRL right now.

Pelipe Lightdriver |

Yes, Pelipe is a soft heart despite her chosen hobby of working on stone. She's not as accustomed to death and destruction, or the wilds as you all are. She is a courtly maiden. It was hard enough for her to threaten to kill him. :P
