@Vayelan, sorry. I will need to drop out of this and several games. Here’s what I posted on Discord a few minutes ago:
Hey, all. I just made a decision to drop pretty much all of my PF games. You may have noticed I have consistently played with heart and enthusiasm, but lately I think I come off more like a zombie nudging a d20.
It’s in part because I really have to get my butt in gear regarding the job hunt, and in my current state of mind, dice math, loot and leveling just feel like additions to my list of chores.
So sorry to do this, and also that I spent x months following the predictable patterns of Guy About To Bow Out Of Game(s) instead of just pulling the band-aid off.
Just know it’s not anything you did as a GM or PC teammate. It’s the toxic workplace.
~L. Sidekick
I especially feel bad dropping this one, as it’s the Paizo board game I’ve been in the longest. But I really need to put in the time to stand a chance at making a career change.

Bummer. I understand, though. Real life has to come first. I've enjoyed this campaign, as well as the others we've been in together. I hope everything works out for you, and that we'll see you in another game in the near future!

That's a darn shame, VV! I was hoping you'd come back with a vengeance, but alas! I hope you find rest and peace of mind in regards to your job search and get all that going.

Wow, what terrible news to come back to.
In all seriousness, though, I understand and respect your decision, L. Sidekick. I wish you well with the job hunt.
Addy and Ash will continue to help manage the affairs of Tamlyn, while the Vixen acts as Horace's masked protector (with the long-time residents pretending to have no idea who it could be).
Down the line, if you find that things have settled down and you feel the itch to adventure again, we'll keep a spot open for you.

Hey, VV. You have to do what is right for you.
We will miss you. Please know that you've made friends.
Thanks for your characterisation and enthusiasm.
I wish you the best and good luck with the job hunt.

Which Knowledge would I (or someone else) need to roll to know what the River Kingdoms ogres are generally like? OOC, I'm familiar with the ogres from Rise of the Runelords, who have no redeeming qualities and cannot be considered innocent in any way. :P
Pelipe Lightdriver |
I had a thought, and I'm posting about it. One of those "what if" moments...
Wonky Prong, Jr |
Sorry y’all. Busy call week and weekend last weekend followed by my birthday and Fathers Day (New Zealand) this weekend.
I have things to say but no time.
DM Vayelan |
I'm going to be honest: I cannot remember whether I originally had Melianse traveling with you towards Uringen and simply forgot about her halfway.
If she was originally accompanying you, I would like to handwave it and say that she parted ways with you on the trail (probably when you first reached Elenthe's home) and returned home to tend to matters in your absence.

To give a glimpse behind the GM screen, I wanted to discuss this recent development in the game. We are deviating heavily from the Kingmaker AP as written, and I thought it might be fair to explain why I decided to take this route.
Over the years, while reviewing Kingmaker material, I've noticed that the biggest complaint from both GMs and players is that the AP's BBEG, Nyrissa, just comes out of seemingly nowhere in the sixth book without any real foreshadowing. Over the course of the campaign, I've been trying to remedy this.
The murder of Horace the unicorn was the first step. The first book in the AP does have the discovery of the dead unicorn as a static encounter on the map, but I added more details: naming the unicorn, giving him connections to Tyg and Perlivash. As you met other fey, like Melianse and Elenthe, who seemed to know who was responsible but were too afraid to name her, that was building upon this further. The fey converging on your kingdom in anticipation of Nyrissa announcing her betrothal is the culmination of this buildup, providing a debut for the AP's big bad.
Anyhow, since this post is straying into 'boastful villain monologue' territory, I think I'll wrap it up here.
For those who've played or run the Kingmaker AP before (or played the PC game adaptation), I just wanted to explain this deviation from the usual story line.

Has Pelipe seen Ahto in his crown and robes yet? I can't recall. *insert swoon here*
Wonky Prong, Jr |
Wonky is here. Just working a separate (and secret for now) scene with the GM.
!!!
Katrine Thalian |
Ack, I totally missed your Thursday post! I'm sorry, everyone.
EDIT: Oh my gods, could I possibly roll any worse? At least Storm is paying attention.
"Crack-jawed" Ahto Ulrych |
When the Enlarge takes effect, I'll move out into the open, sword drawn, and say, "Moo."
This will give the rest of y'all a chance to take-up flanking or ranged positions once the Devil Chicken comes after me.
Sound like a plan?
Katrine Thalian |
Whoops, I forgot to add bull's strength to Storm's damage roll. Should have been 1d8 + 4 Str + 3 bull's strength + 1 magic fang. That'll teach me to post combat rolls late at night.
DM Vayelan |
Since they are comparable in size to small shields, I would say they are closer to improvised club size.
Here is a historic image of slabs of salt from a salt mine to give a point of reference for their size.
Pelipe Lightdriver |
I find it very odd that most of the time when I roll an unmodified roll, I seem to roll very high.
Pelipe Lightdriver |
I am open to that.
DM Vayelan |
Yeah, I was using Althea as a temporary fourth party member to keep us from being too understrength in the past few challenges, but I don't think she'd be a suitable long-term adventuring companion.
How many new players should we aim for?
What roles or character types would make good additions?
Anyone have any contacts they could reach out to, or should we go right to a recruitment post?
Pelipe Lightdriver |
No, please. I think Pelipe will die if Althea becomes a permanent party member.
I typically like a 4-5 party, so I'd shoot for three new people, since on Pbp, a few weeks to a few months after recruitment, someone usually fades out (at least from my experience, unfortunately).
I think a healer type, another front-liner, and a skill monkey or damage-dealing wizard would be best.
Regarding the call for aid, I am open to any, as long as they post fairly frequently and consistently. Those would be my preferences but recruit whomever you wish.
Pelipe Lightdriver |
Message sent.
Katrine Thalian |
I'm sorry, I've been swamped with homework. I would very much like a party healer. If you want to go ahead and pick without me, feel free. If not, I'll try to get to it tomorrow night.
Warren Kingeagle |
Thank you for the invitation too!! Fun facts below
The species of eagle most commonly flown, especially in North American, is the Golden Eagle. Other eagles flown by falconers around the world include the Harpy Eagle, Booted Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Wedge-tailed Eagle, and others.
What eagles are used for falconry?
Falconers in possession of an Eagle Permit may possess up to 3 eagles of the following species: golden eagle, white-tailed eagle, or Steller's sea eagle. Falconers may not possess bald eagles under a falconry permit.
Pelipe Lightdriver |
Congratulations on joining! I hope the GM finds a cool place to bring you in at. Pelipe is conked out atm
Katrine Thalian |
Welcome, new players! Glad to have you all aboard.
@Warren, I'm glad to see that someone plays nature classes like me. A while back Katrine sent her folks a letter with animal messenger and I spent way too long researching raptor species to determine exactly what kind of bird would live in an environment like Tamlyn and be able to carry her letter to Cordelon before the spell wore off. (Cooper's hawk, if you were wondering.)
DM Vayelan |
On the subject of how to introduce our new characters and why they might arrive in Tamlyn...
For Tegan, in keeping with the info under the Goals & Desires section of her Background, might come to Tamlyn to meet with Lord Ahto, perhaps hoping that the Abadaran ruler of this new nation can provide some insight and tutelage about her divinely granted powers.
For Warren, he may have come to the Stolen Lands since it is one of the last, largest unsettled regions in this part of Avistan. Perhaps hearing stories about how the new settlement of Horace is trying to remain in harmony with the local fey population, he might want to investigate whether a balance between civilization and the wilds is possible.
For Stayven, as a surveyor, he is likely the latest talented professional emigrating to Tamlyn to offer his expertise and carve out a niche for himself in the foundations of this new land.
Warren Kingeagle |
Thanks Katrine, I will be probably relying on a wand of mage armor and hope Pelipe or Stayven can keep me and my companion armored up. Feel free to spread it around.
Warren will probably be mixing up with tooth and claw as a melee druid front liner with some healing. But after he makes sure his possee of birds and air/earth elementals are ready to back him up.
ninjad by our GM, Warren can wing in as he can be an eagle 12 hours a day with his bird friends. I assume he can't cast spell in eagle form, so after 6 hours he begins to plummet as a human until he casts his second wild shape, he then knows a third wild shape isn't coming, so lands before the second one wears off.
Warren Kingeagle |
Welcome Stayven, and any barkskin is greatly appreciated!!
As a huge eagle, I was hoping Warren could carry Katrine and Storm. We may have to make a custom riding harness, but I bet after flying, they would find riding horses and trotting along quite boring.
