With the heart of the Stolen Lands explored and the bandits who ruled there scattered, the long-contested realm finally lies open for pioneers and settlers to stake their claims.:
Amid the rush of opportunistic travelers, the PCs find themselves stewards over a new domain, tasked with the responsibility of guiding and guarding a fledgling nation struggling to grow upon a treacherous borderland. Yet the threats to this new nation quickly prove themselves greater than mere bandits and wild beasts, as the monstrous natives of the hills and forests rampage forth to slaughter all who have trespassed upon their territory. Can the PCs hold the land they’ve fought so hard to explore and tame? Or will their legend be just one more lost to the fangs of the Stolen Lands?

GGGM: I take it being Frightened no longer matters if we are not in sight of the Crypt Thing?

Numalar, suddenly deprived of what he was sitting on, lands uncomfortably on the floor on his posterior.

"DAMN AND BLAST!"

He quickly covers his mouth, realizing that he might attract the attention of some creature. He looks around fearfully, then breathes a little sigh of relief when he sees he is sitting next to Scarlet.

He stands up and dusts himself off.

"Are you all right? I think I know where we are," Numalar says to Scarlet. "That pit beside you; I think we saw it from the south side, not long after we killed the jellies. Which means that from here we go that way" Numalar points to the west, "to get back to where we were."

Numalar gets ready to head to the west. He looks over at Scarlet's gear.

"The thing is like a skeleton. If you mean to fight it, edged weapons won't do much. Your hammer might suit though. My spear won't be good for much but I might be able to distract it when you attack."

The main point of the longspear is using the aid another action, so Numalar actually has some value in a melee. Scarlet: If I am doing that for you, would you prefer the bonus to hit or AC?

"I wouldn't want to go up against it with just us two though; its claws are reputedly deadly. We should find the others." Numalar sets off towards the west. he calls out to Sir Didymus.

"Sir Didymus! Speak!"

Move action to stand and then moving down the corridor to the west and then around to the south, assuming Scarlet is also coming. at every corner Numalar will peer around the corners before advancing.

Sheets of cobwebs blow in the breeze from the doorway.

The door opens upon a room strewn with bones. Small piles of once-people piled along the walls and corners a couple laying stretched upon the steps of the recessed dais, and one hunched over in a stone throne decorated with more bone carvings. Most were armed and in armor of one kind or another. The equipment that you can make out under dust and webs has moldered to uselessness.

The walls of the room as full of rows of leering stone skulls that run like molding at a human's waist and eye-level. The pillars supporting the 20-foot tall domed ceiling seem to be made exclusively of skulls. Most of the skulls in the decor, and the heaps of desiccated remains seem human, but other races are represented as well.

Opposite the party's door is a another stout door barred against whatever is beyond with a brace on this side.

Magic and the obvious. Bet that masterwork mace looks pretty good right now. :)

Also, there are no obvious crossbows (maybe under cobwebs and bones, but nothing out in the open). The skeleton has a fool's scepter (a rod with a whimsically carved fool's face and three-bell cowl as its head) in its hand. It's too tall to be Posh's attacker, who was a capital 'S' Small humanoid. If he doesn't kidnap me, fancying my "Silmarils" and opting to turn my "Lembas" into a "Twinkie" with his magical staff.

Not that I needed all that for the expression of doubt, but once you get locked into a serious pun collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

And then he winks out of existence, everything goes dark for a second, and reappears with his magically illuminated rapier 1d8 ⇒ 4 facing the wrong way (facing the wrong way--yes, I know there is no facing) right next to the looming horror!

Celyne, Lunar Oracle (without a light spell ;)) may restate her actions if she like, otherwise she might proceed even faster to the exit. Now all she has to do is outrun Posh....

"IRONY?!! YOU WERE BEING IRONIC?! YOU WERE MAKING (PARDON THE PUN, HEH) LIGHT OF THE SITUATION!! HEH HEH HEH. IT HAS BEEN EVER SO, SO LONG SINCE I HAVE HEARD COMEDY HERE!!" The dry-rotted thing booms down at Posh. His gaze wanders up to Celyne. "DOES THE GIRL--DANCE?!"

Posh That second-to-last save was against the crypt thing's fear aura. You are now frightened and must try to flee from it for the next four rounds. Though Celyne would get an attack of opportunity should you try to run past her without dodging. ;)

He slips on the stone work, hauls himself up and smoothly rolls under the blade trap. Springing to his feet he uses the forward momentum to barrel forward down the stair bouncing off the narrow passage walls down toward the dungeon.

I don't know I always thought Zokon's musical tastes were more in line with Spike Speigel.

He ends up at near the top end of the stair after a full round's movement.

Clyffward is an intelligent fey creature known in the mortal world as a barrow hound. Occasionally they participate in wild hunts, their terrifyingly unearthly howls are used to flush their or their master's prey, and when on guard duty it is used to deter trespassers. It is said that some of the barrow hound's verbalizations can distort time as well as space.

I've run a few campaigns set in and around the Zentraedi Control Zone, post first Robotech war. I would highly suggest Cowboy Bebop though even if only for the running around music. ;) It's a short series and really really good. Mostly, I like it for the not talking. You know that bit where the hero is fighting the villain and they have to tell each other their entire backstory and how it relates to the situation at hand. That and people smoke and look and sound cool.

Cowboy Bebop came out in the 90's is only about 20 odd episodes and movie long. Good stuff I highly recommend it.

Technically you are still near the top of the stairwell leading to the dungeon. The stairs will probably take you next round to double move thought. So Z is not on the main map yet. As for walls, hard corners are hard corners, you can cut corners with people (who do not actually take up all the space) but not walls.

Numalar would be just behind Scarlet here. Last action I said I was moving but didn't move my icon in case Scarlet wanted to do differently. I think we'd be sticking together at this point. The following assumes I am right behind her when the shot goes off - but if she was running I wouldn't be able to keep up.

At the sound of the crossbow, Numalar runs past Scarlet's Knees, and sees the small figure.

"reH!" he shouts as he points his symbol at the figure.

Draconic:
Be Still!

Casting daze. Will DC 15 or dazed 1 round. However, daze only works on humanoids of 4 HD or less, so if this guy is undead (or something else) it will do nothing.

"Dibs on the crossbow, by the way."

THE REAL RECAP

Didymus and Luna explore their dark environs.

Zokon heads downstairs.

Scarlet rushes off. Note she moves at a speed of 40. There really isn't enough straightaway for running.

Numalar tries to keep up. Alas, I'm not going to get the chance to see if he can for a couple of hours.

Alia meets the neighbors.

Celyne and a frightened Posh remain behind in the chamber with the crypt-thing.

Intentions. Road to the Nine Hells. That sort of thing.

"I agree, Skulls are sooo last century." Posh comments with a laugh

And then he winks out of existence, everything goes dark for a second, and reappears with his magically illuminated rapier 1d8 facing the wrong way (facing the wrong way--yes, I know there is no facing) right next to the looming horror!

Though Celyne would get an attack of opportunity should you try to run past her without dodging. ;)

Thought the second save was the TP, which I succeeded on by getting 18. damn bloody thing!

Posh will attempt a double-move to flee from the creature.

I placed him where he'll end up on his round, doing a full-retreat to not trigger an AoO.

In terms of order I believe Celyne acts first as Posh is at the bottom of the initiative order. Eitherway, we might give that hooded guy a scare since I'm running at him with illumination and he didn't like light last time.

Scarlet moves 10 feet ahead and sees the shadowy figure around the corner.

I'm going for 'fierce' here people--fierce! | The Trading Post | Tactical Map | Region |

Celine races after Posh into the large hall. Out of the corner of her eye she notices a caged Luna.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Unfortunately she neither sees nor remembers the hall's trap! The floor opens up on rows of metal spike set in the floor 10 feet below.

As Scarlet moves up she triggers the second ambusher's attack.

A second small figure in robes identical to the first exhales a blast of wind and irritating particulates from its mouth.

Scarlet - Reflex save DC 13 for half, slashing damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

If you Fail You become sickened as well.

Zokon Racing downstairs makes it to the dungeon level at the end of a double move this turn. I placed him on the map.

I take it I wasn't able to move in front of Scarlet last round then.

If that's the case then I will just take the action now that I would have done last time - cast daze at the first guy (blue).

Nope, remember a single move action from barbarian-speed Scarlet is worth a double one from Numalar if he's not astride his noble mount and then you run neck and neck.

The spell washes over the creature, and for a moment it hesitates and looks surprised. In it's agitation it snaps out a pair of ragged, membranous, bat wings in a motion reminiscent of a cobra snapping out its hood. When it is clear that Numalar's magic has no hold on it, the creature is pulls back its mantle to reveal huge, pointy ears and a matching nose, and skin the color of ash. The thing stands about 3-feet-tall and is emaciated to the point of being skeletal. Its texture seems odd, indistinct, like the gobliny-stick-thing is only partially solid. Motes of skin flake off it like powdered snow or dandruff. Its eyes are like two tiny, pale lights. It smiles at Numalar.

Sorry, somehow the Reflex save got dropped out of this post.

"You...hope so? Why is that?", looking between the man casually testing his stew, his large green dog, and the entrance, "Ed of Greenwood, I would gladly join you for some stew after this day...but my scare is not over yet...my friends are still down there - I think they are - and in danger. I need to go save them!"

This round, still talking, and moving
Some steps towards the entrance, Alia turns again:"Clyffward looks strong...I don't suppose I could convince the two of you to help me?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 Takes longer, but I suppose if he IS willing, we can talk on the way...if not, I can abort-

Also, I'll be gone over the weekend, so Alia would make her way into the entrance hoping to rejoin the others, but since I am gone it's okay if she is slightly delayed, there...

Can't beat the knowledge nature so I have no idea...except I know usually dogs are smaller and less green

Nah, Elminster of Shadowdale of Faerun was a Fighter 1/Rogue 2/Cleric 3/Wizard 24/Archmage 5(in 3rd edition) ...this here is Eldiocesan of Dweomervale of Golarion, a rogue (rake) 3/wizard (exploiter wizard) 3/arcane trickster 10/loremaster 2, his planar younger brother. You got them all mixed up. Clearly there is no similarity beyond some facial features inherited from their mothers side.

Nope, don't have knowledge (planes). A quick look at character sheets suggests to me that the only one who can make that check is Posh (thanks to Bardic Knowledge).

The spell served to at least reveal that they're not humanoids though.

I assume my light did nothing to the figure who has been avoiding light.

DM:
Now that I read the posts it's a moot point due to my roll, but out of curiosity if Posh knew it was regenerating due to the dust, could he have then used prestigitation to clean up the area? not saying an entire room, but a 10ft square or something. Again, moot point now Numalar pointed out I'm the only one to make the roll and failed. Also, finally got back to writing up that extended backstory when I came up with a interesting character from Posh's backstory. Not a love interest, but someone he sees as a younger sister, although she wish he didn't. The idea came as a image in my mind and I've build upon it as she's one of the friends that helps him escape, but she is NOT one of the riders who was killed by Raven.

Poshment Underhill wrote:

Correct. Light doesn't particularly bother them, the only reason they have seemed to recoil from light is that they have darkvision and therefore normally have a powerful advantage in the dark. Why fight fair when you can avoid it?

As for the spoilery idea, it is possible but probably unfeasible given the time involved. If you could do it while they were out for a Sunday picnic....

Posh and Scarlet can still do stuff this round.

There's the new - Diplomacy (Make a Request) option. Basically if the person likes you already or at least is indifferent to you you can ask them for a favor in as little as one round's time--assuming you could spell out the problem that quickly. It can take longer.

"That's tricky." He says. "There are many dangerous people about, and I am about a task hunting dangerous prey. I have allies of my own who are even now mustering. To go in now...." He cradles his pipe in both hands, hunkers forward and lets the wispy smoke wreath his face.
