At this point, the party does not have much if any idea of how many of the men are dead, and have actually come to the aid of two who may have died.
Alia of the Blade
They are all dead. They may be on a timer still, but they are all dead.
Also, +1 for "Guerilla Tactics" and "go do something else first"
Numalar Auritonius
|
For the record, while Dovan definitely cannot be allowed to live, Numalar is not sure if the others deserve the death penalty, under the grounds that if they are indeed "new recruits" (which seems possible), then they may not have committed any acts of banditry yet.
However, releasing them here would likely mean that they just run to the Stag Lord, and taking them them with us could be problematic.
---------------------
As for plans, Numalar would prefer to continue with our original route and leave the Stag Party for later.
Alia of the Blade
Not only that, Alia is sure as hell not dragging them back to Restov to see them hanged there.
Because I'm rather certain the Magister does not care if they are new recruits or not.
Better to at least give them a clean, swift death. As you say, it's not only the matter of banditry, it's that they know who we are, where we are, what we did...and sure as hell would report, because the Stag Lord is set up to try and take control of these lands, and he certainly has the more impressive presence and intimidating reputation.
@eradicating the camp: Not sure...even if they had no line of sight, someone will notice Drovan go missing. We may also try and scare them. Have them sit around camp as if nothing happened, breakfast on the fire, no signs of a combat(bodies arranged near burning logs or sharp objects to explain any wounds). But they're all decapitated.
Something like that's certain to spark some rumours in his ranks(especially if we manage to raid another camp in the near future)...if a few guys decide to rather soil their pants and try to run off, thats grand.
Also that's just one possible scenario...basically something about sudden, inevitable and overwhelming death befalling the followers of Staggie

You want to support Posh's suicide?
That's not very sweet of you, you should support your friend!
Craft something that gives him a morale bonus instead! A Bagpipe of "Don't worry be happy" or something like that

Ooooooooh oooh oooh oohh oh oooooooohh ooooooooooohhh ooooooohhh..
Gah!

So which path? Do you take the purple path or did you want to try and find another ford across the Thorn River and take the light blue path? You were on the purple one before your morning detour south.

I'm guessing you haven't played Clue.
I'd make bagpipes for a dwarven bard.
But I had an idea for a gnome bard once... who carried a tuba. :)
Alia of the Blade
I know the game. But GM asked "Just let me know who's killing who, and when."
That's "Person, Person, Time"
Posh answered "Posh, in the study with the candlestick."
which is "Person, location, object"
Now we know where and how the victim is killed, but still don't know when. And since we only have one name to map to both murderer and victim, it obviously was a suicide!
The deduction seemed amusing to me, but it seems it was not funny - so apologies.
Pity though...I had hoped for bagpipes. Albeit a magic-powered Theremin would probably be rather awesome, too.

@Numalar: Just as a headsup, I would like to commission an item that ideally would be done before we hit Level 5(which is when I get to Craft Magic Arms and Armor). I know currently we are not in a position to craft, but if it's relevant to your future plans, I wanted to let you know already.
Slot: Slotless item, "Tool Maintainance Kit";
Effect: Crafters Fortune, continuous
Cost: 2000 GC(1000 to craft) ((CL-1*SL-1*2k)/2 for duration*2 for being slotless)
I am aware use-activated with 1 charge/day would be sufficient, by RAW, but that feels gamey. Albeit maybe GM would allow "progressive" enhancement as more of the maintainance kit is "finished", meaning crafting in 400GC Value(200 to craft) increments for a +1 luck bonus each, to the full +5 luck for crafters fortune once 2000 GC(1000 GC to craft) is reached?
Eventually I'd like to add competence-boni for weapons, armor, bows, and shields, but those will be on specialized tools to keep the price reasonable, one for each category.
Numalar Auritonius
|
Interesting idea, though this item may be a bit out of whack price-wise. The general rule is that you compare a custom item to existing items.
A slotted item that gives a +5 competence bonus to a skill costs 2500 (1250 to craft) and so a slotless version would cost 5,000. Your item would grant a Luck Bonus and therefore would stack with such an item; normally luck bonus items are more expensive than more 'normal' bonus items.
But the easiest thing to do would be either:
A) buy a wand,
or,
B) Have Numalar craft a Page of Spell Knowledge of crafter's fortune. This would cost 500 to make (1000 to buy), and would allow Numalar to cast the spell on you, using his caster level.
---
I talked to GGGM a while ago about custom items and some of the first things I plan to make are lesser versions of items that give a numeric skill bonus. If eyes of the eagle give a +5 to perception and cost 2500, according the the formula a +1 version would only cost 100 gp.
My first item on the list will be gloves of elvenkind because these items give a bonus to spellcraft, which could then be used to increase Numalar's ability to make more items. I'm guessing that the other spellcasters may want these as well. If Celyne or Alia helps him make them then he can ignore the +5 increase in spellcraft DC for not being an elf.
Alia of the Blade
The point is that most "skills"/competence skill items are for skills more useful in adventuring.
Craft and Profession, for that aspect, are more situational.
Getting a +5 luck to Perception, or a +5 Luck to Bluff, or Use Magic Device, even Knowledge(Arcana) or Sense Motive, would arguably be a significantly stronger option than a +5 luck bonus on a craft check. When crafting is already, using the base rules, rather easy to meet the DC's of. That's also why Crafters Fortune as a Level 1 Spell from a Level 1 Caster lasts all day until you make the Check...while all-day spells giving significant skill boni to anything else are rather rare at that level- so I maintain the pricing as given should be reasonable - not my call to make, obviously, but one also has to take into consideration what kind of skill is boosted, I think nobody would value skill boosts for "Profession(Fishmonger)" and "Perception" at an equal gold value.
This is basically about not only wanting to be good at it, but being awesome at it. Also, one important point would be to have it available independently, not depend on someone else to cast it for her. I had hoped that it would land on the Boon List for Findeladlara, which it did not, and I did propose researching a Magus Version of Crafters Fortune, but honestly, it simply seems easier to pay a one-time Fee and assume it's available perpetually, even if Alia runs an errand alone, or Numalar dies again, etc.
So yeah, unless we run with unchained crafting rules, it won't even make a significant difference, it's just something I want. So the time limit on Level 5 is not AS strict, since we could never even afford the stuff with too-high DC's at that time...it's just a "want" for flavor, rather than mechanics.
Numalar Auritonius

I think nobody would value skill boosts for "Profession(Fishmonger)" and "Perception" at an equal gold value.
... Except a Fishmonger. :)
Your point is valid, but remember you can also get a +2 circumstance bonus from masterwork tools, which skills like perception never get. So with a +5 competence skill item you get to a +7, and then the luck bonus makes it +12...
Ultimately it's up to GGGM. We have lots of time before it comes up anyway.
Alia of the Blade
That, plus with the downtime this AP theoretically allows, as was mentioned before, all kinds of crafting do need a "Gentlemen's Agreement" anyway.
Even with simple masterwork tools, without a +10 competence item or a +5 luck item, purely from my archetype, I would be capable of reaching craft values that let me build pretty much anything, RAW.
So money would be the limiter, and that's also not so, with sufficient time(and especially at Level 7, when I basically get tenfold progress on mundane items and double progress on magical).
If we are all in agreement not to break the economy or game the system, then the actual RANKS in the skills should not even matter...those are just so I can feel awesome knowing I'm the best smith in the country ^_^
So yeah, up to him, but technically, I'm willing to spend on flavor, there, so an upmark seems...out of place, even if it could be argued for in RAW(but neither is a given).
Also, I'll make sure to finally catch up with gameplay today :P
You guys were so busy and I never had much time in the past few days.
RPGGGM
I am not sure I like the idea of a lucky maintenance kit. It sounds a bit like having slippers of minute seeing. I realize that there is a spell (which should probably have been typed 'competence' or 'circumstance'--or even, 'divine'--as in praying over an item in hopes of divine intervention), but that sounds like a bit of luck when you need it while MacGyvering something together rather than a purpose-built maintenance kit. Plumbers do not get 'lucky' fixing pipes with their tools. As it is a 'background skill' item I will (heavy sigh) research the ins and outs and be back to you by March of 2018. Until then remember you can use banked wealth (as you accrue it like gold) to pay for the kit (would be full price) without needing other folks to make them (i.e. Elves celebrate Life Day on the same day Wookies do and so your Grandfather from the First Age sends you his lucky anvil to hang from a big tree to drop on wandering imperials--Oh, and it is delivered by Bea Arthur and Art Carnie--it's a Life Day tradition).
My inclination is that it will be okay, though I'm hedging on price, until I can compare it to something comparable.
Alia of the Blade
Just for the record, I picked a tool maintainance kit simply because it affects all types of craft skills. I was thinking a smithing hammer or anvil first, but that would hardly explain why it works for crafting a bow...or fletching arrows...or leatherworks. Or, making wooden figurines, or carving marble statues. Not getting a Soul Forger Bonus on those, but hey, only making war equipment for centuries will get boring, eventually, when you run out of people to equip. War Golems are probably an option, but I'm not sure they'd get along with the Treants...
RPGGGM
Whatever you do, don't get rid of the treants! There's the River Kingdoms Basketball Association to consider.
Alia of the Blade
No worries, plus I'd like to think we learned something from the 7 days of fire...well, I suppose my brethren in the Mordant Spire also didn't believe someone had pressed the switch when the aboleths did.
And there's even rumors someone considered nuking the place all over again. Certainly nothing but lies. Propaganda to make good elves look bad. *nods vigorously*
RPGGGM
Funny you should mention that. Funny.

Alia does not care about the Kobolds.
If I don't misremember, the only ones she run into where those trying to kill Fan Auric.
Not any giving quests about statues, or involved with moon radishes.
As such, while I understand a desire to press on, move forward, I just want to verify that people are cutting lose the kobolds, but still letting them bleed out?
3 out of 4 were unresponsive, one recently became so I think.
Checking on their health, or trying to help them to stabilize may be prudent if we mean to turn in a quest with them, or count on their support in the future.
I suggested such to Celyne OOC, but she preferred to give Scarlet some Guidance.
But as said, in the case of Alia, that is all OOC knowledge. As far as she is concerned, thats some nasties caught by some other nasties, and she would at most wonder why you free them.
If someone wants to act or speak up properly IC, it would have to be someone else. If we don't care, really, and it's the same to us wether they live or die, thats fine too.
I just wanted to bring it up while we still may have a chance to safe them, rather than ignoring the situation until it's too late.

True, Alia hadn't joined the game yet, though given one of the destinations on the party map it could be assumed that she's been brought up to speed on the topic.
I suggested such to Celyne OOC, but she preferred to give Scarlet some Guidance.
As I recall Numalar's player suggested something similar. Celyne's player though plays in about 30 games other than this one (semi-pro, I believe). Hence the character often seems distracted--moonie if you will.
At first I considered it a potential problem considering I'm a Deep Time Plotter (being born on Aloysius the 14th, it is my astrological sign), but I've come to see it as one of the character's defining traits. Faeria the (still) Mad owes some of her character to Celyne.
Even still, given that Celyne was the one who made first contact with the Sootscales you would think she would be taking a greater interest in her would-be allies' health, if perhaps only to feed them to her cat later.
So Celyne, heads up, unconscious, dead or dying kobolds everywhere.
Scarlet Scarab
I'd love to discuss the finer points of diplomacy with a kobold but I have a creepy crawler about to bite me.

Well sit down and I shall discuss the finer point of Kobold diplomacy with you, I am the expert after all.
First lesson, stabbing comes after they refuse to give you everything they have and only if you outnumber them 10 to 1.

sorry - didn't realize the kobolds were in that bad shape... Celyne would definitely stabilize each of them knowing that... I will go make a post to state such now.

Sorry guys, I haven't gotten around to adding the stuff from the Dovan encounter to the Loot Page.
I haven't had much energy lately; I had pneumonia a month ago and am still recovering.
But the noteworthy item was Dovan's +1 Rapier. Was anyone going to take it? If not we should probably "bank" it.

@ Posh: (moved this from gameplay)
Poshment Underhill wrote:Correct assumption, sadly this is the downside of a vanilla bard at low level...Not precisely true. Any character even a first level commoner can contribute, even if it is only as a source of witty banter, group hit points, a flanking buddy, an 'aid other' friend, dispenser of knowledge, ....
This is why Numalar carries a longspear.
It's not just because I like the idea of a Gnome Sorcerer who thinks he is a knight with a lance.
Numalar will never do any significant damage with the spear. But the aid another maneuver requires you to score a hit against only AC 10, which even Numalar can pull off once in a while. So I could stand behind one of the melee fighters and potentially give them a +2 to hit or a +2 to AC for a round.
Posh may not have a longspear but he does have a whip. This is also a reach weapon and could be used the same way (I think). Posh could get a scorpion whip which is similar but will actually do lethal damage.
Posh also has a masterwork crossbow. So while doing his bardic performance he can also stand in the back and take shots that will do 1d6 damage. Not a lot, but more than enough to kill a mite, for example. Any damage is better than none. And at +7 he is not a bad shot.
So I guess I am saying that I agree with GGGM. There are plenty of things that Posh can do if you think about it.
RPGGGM
Further most bards are, or can be quite knowledgeable. They can excel in social interactions (making friends, and intimidating people), and can debuff opponents as well as bolster allies. On their own, they may seem weak, but in a party they are really quite strong, and depending on the build quite variable in their roll. The larger the party the stronger they are. And even little +1 or +2 magical, or tactical bonuses can be very important at low levels.
Alia of the Blade
Objection!? - I was after Zokon and Numalar and stated I'll wait until after they did their thing, but why am I after the Centipede now? I should still have a chance to stab it to death before it attempts to murder Scarlet, should I not?
