Would it be possible to follow the tracks of the animal killer?
Brother: solid roll for the tracking. If I keep rolling like crap, I'll just have Amaya take her top off to provide cover for your pursuit along the shore. Although, I see Schultz listed as Friendly---did Amaya and Luther pull it off with a pair of 14's?

Amaya Harvey |

I think that gameplay is waiting on the Constable in conversation. If not and you are waiting on me for something, let me know.

In the interest of keeping the group together, if Oukonunaka heads off on a track, Amaya could offer to "keep an eye on him" for the Constable and head off with him. Or, if the conversation with Luther is juicy enough, I'm fine with splitting up momentarily while Oukonunaka completes his study so that we can keep chatting about Pallaver.

Oukonunaka |

I'm okay with waiting for the conversation to finish, the tracks aren't going anywhere, unless it's going to rain. My idea is we track as far as we can then find a spot to set up an ambush, or at least hide and tail the culprit assuming he will come again pre-dawn.
Perhaps the sacrifices are to keep us away? I am an Native American after all. An ancient structure to keep away Native Americans? Sounds like bad ju-ju to me.

I don't know that Amaya would join a pre-dawn ambush, but I think that's a good plan.

To be fair, Katherine said "keep peace with the Indians," so maybe we all group hug here... However, in general, I assume that chicken sacrifices are bad ju-ju until convinced otherwise.

I am worried that it's Albert gathering his power or putting the finishing touches on his selenium tower, or whatever. Ed's exacting attention to detail with the dates worries me -- maybe we have to figure it out before the next full moon or something.
Maybe one of us could ask Karl what he thinks is going on, at some point?
I get the impression that something was written in chicken blood here, which Ernest is wiping off. Maybe we can ask one of them about that later on as well?
I think tracking them back as far as we can go seems like a good idea. I'm sure it'll work if you keep rolling 20s. Watching for them seems good also, but I don't know what to do about the splitting-the-party issue.

Amaya Harvey |

Maybe we can ask one of them about that later on as well?
Agree. Not only have we got Karl here at the lake, we've got the Mayor later today. I'd hope to get at least one solid Diplomacy roll on somebody.
Plus, this conversation with Shultz isn't over yet---he may yet volunteer something. Depending on his upcoming response, I think we could manage one more round of prying.
We've got a lot to learn yet today. Another 20 from Mark at the mausoleum, for example, might turn up that the boot prints are the same as at the lake... or the same as at the Catholicon (if Shultz's answers entice us to go there soon)... Pre-dawn raids are not Amaya's default setting, but with compelling evidence from our investigations today, there may be a lot of plans for tomorrow that she'd be surprised to be joining.

Oukonunaka |

I think we can easily follow the tracks, go to town and the mausoleum in one solid day. What say you Ed?
I think asking about what was written is a good idea, maybe Amaya could charm Karl once he is away from constable (assuming he can read).
We should definitely stick together.
A single twig breaks, but the bundle of twigs is strong.

I think that Karl has already walked off (but is still around the site somewhere). Earnest is the one scrubbing the blood---he may remember Amaya from the graveyard...I don't know if that's good or bad. Luther and/or Amaya can chat them up in separate conversations without breaking up our group at the lake.

Amaya Harvey |

So, Shultz is kind of creeping Amaya out now. Looking ahead, I'm thinking of having her ensure that someone (Luther or Stanislav) accompanies her to dinner with Shultz, but I should probably make a roll now to see if she notices anything. I see that I can use Sense Motive untrained, but what are my modifiers? I don't think that I can use Irrepressible to apply Cha modifiers in this case: correct?
Once I get a ruling and a roll, I'll post in gameplay. Luther can certainly continue the conversation in the meantime.

Amaya Harvey |

Shultz is in fact suggesting that everyone go to dinner together, he's just talking to Amaya rather than Luther.
Sweet.
It seems that we should wrap it up here at the lake for now. Does Oukonunaka want anything more with these fresh tracks? Or do we want to catch up with Karl?
If not, then let's play our way out of this conversation and back into town.
Luther: nice save on the Diplomacy. This investigation seems to be paying off.

Amaya Harvey |

Sounds good.
Does Luther have anything else to ask Schulz at this point? or shall we excuse ourselves until dinner?
Ed, will these tracks take us toward Karl? Amaya wouldn't know about the tracks (yet), but once she does she might run ahead in that direction and get in some chat while Oukonunaka works---let's play that out if it would get Amaya (and Luther?) busy with Karl.
If Oukonunaka explained something to Luther about the tracks ("look for more like these," etc.), would Luther then get some plusses to subsequent help?

Luther Clark |

I don't have anything more for the conversation -- picking it up at dinner sounds good to me.
If we had to detour to catch Karl, it's not a very big detour. Convenient if that's the way they're going, though.
On the other hand, I suppose that talking to Karl immediately might risk antagonizing Shultz.
I think I can assist Oukonunaka with the tracking, which means that if I can hit DC 10, he gets a +2. (I think this is what happened with the diplomacy -- I got a 14, which is higher than 10 so I succeed in assisting you, giving you a +2. So then you count as having got a 14+2=16.)

GM Mark |

The fourth individual to visit the stone more than once came once yesterday and once today, likely in the wee (pre-dawn) hours on both occasions. Both times they arrived along the eastern shore and departed along the western shore. Whomever this was most likely killed the animals.
This is who I would like to track.

Amaya Harvey |

I agree that Shutlz may be annoyed if we bolted off after Karl right now.
I feel that the trackers are driving the bus now. Do your thing and Amaya will try to keep up and will run interference, if any is necessary. If that means talking to Karl, so be it, but I'm leaning toward not otherwise pursuing him.

Oukonunaka |

Yeah, lets leave Karl. He seems angry anyway. We can always seek him out later. Assuming he is not impaled on the Honin Stone tomorrow.

Luther Clark |

arrived along the eastern shore and departed along the western shore
Do you think it's better to track toward where he went? or where he came from?

Oukonunaka |

I think where he came from. If he has followed the same path each day I would like to see its origin, and a possible hiding/ambush spot.

Amaya Harvey |

Ed, I'm on cruise control for the tracking, so feel free to narrate Amaya along with Luther and Oukonunaka. Of course, I'll jump in if anything catches my fancy me in the gameplay.
If there is anything to be had from a closer examination of the Stone by Amaya (connecting the dots with her Etruscan reading, etc.), then she would do that at this time. If you need a roll from me, let me know---or go ahead and make one yourself, as needed.

Amaya Harvey |

I've been busy so haven't been posting. If I get some time, I'll post what Amaya is thinking for some color, but I don't plan on really contributing to the tracking. Please carry on without my input and simply narrate her along. If she is precluding some sort of stealthy endeavor, just let me know if we need to semi-break up the group...
Or, if she can spend this time in thought about the Stone or other Arcana, I'm happy to provide a roll...

Amaya Harvey |

Alright! Catholicon!
I currently going back and reading all of the old gameplay to figure out what is known to Amaya and what is known to me. Regardless, she is certainly more interested in the tracks now than before, so carry on. I'll post whenever it seems appropriate (and when I've sorted out my info).

Amaya Harvey |

I'm not trying to make Amaya be difficult; this is as much as I can think of in character. Perhaps there are two options:
1) she gets over this initial shock, considers the other two to be overreacting, and marches up to the ruins ahead of them
2) the other two march off saying something like "don't die" and she begrudgingly follows along
I guess there is a (3) where Luther tosses her an extra gun, Oukonunaka tosses her an extra knife, and they both shout "Cover me!" as they storm off, but I don't think that's the answer.
Any other thoughts? I'm glad that we're playing this out.
PS - I'm getting the vibe of the Doctor and Capt Jack dragging Rose through the London hospital during the blitz, but I'm trying to stay focused on Amaya being a Lovecraftian mid-career pedant who's about to see some serious s!*#.
