Don't think it works like that, Sapphire. (It actually requires an action—but also, it's not a spell or psionic effect, just a skill trick)

My thing says "any attempt to read... mind" I think trick or not that falls in to 'any attempt'. Going to be painful for your PC, O and if she knows he's doing it, witch a 25th level Psion/Dread with powers/skills/ability's running will do, all kinds of auto Dread/psion nastiness kicks in, just saying he best have an off switch for that :)

Dropping Ghost Template, just to hard to get past the undead mind effects problem.

The story that I'm working on has my guy being a divine scion of Torag. I'm going to try and unite the dwarven states to become "the sixth king" a play off the five kings of dwarf lore.

Take one level of telekineticist somewhere and the arcane trickster theme is covered.

Nice Monkey, you've been busy! Excellent work with this, truly. Check your inbox, by the way, as I had to replace my phone a while back.

I probably will not be joining this campaign, as I was planning something similar for my revived Echoes of the Sephira campaign that I am re-tweaking (It would be a shame to let that 544 page word document of awesome go to waste, after all!), but I wish you the best of luck with this campaign!

What ability? I'm not seeing anything like that anywhere. Also, Unchained Sense Motive mind-reading isn't stopped by things like mind blank.

Glad I didn't go that route then.

Also, let's decide now:

If your character has an ability that could possibly hurt an ally that's always on, you probably can and should suppress it. None of our characters would willingly allow an ally to inadvertently hurt themselves on an ability if they can help it.

Is this cool?

Thunderbeard, as
Kryzbyn says. I think 1: your miss reading what that dos sorry. and 2: You have to ask do you really want you PC tying to mind read a 25th level mythic Psion Telepth/Dread, she has in place mind stuff that could really hurt him and she will know he is reading her mind trust me. She's not going to be going around reading the mind of other Players PCs that to close to PvP for my liking.

Sense Motive Unchained:

Source PFU

10 Ranks: After 1 minute of conversation, you can read a creature's surface thoughts (as detect thoughts) by attempting a Sense Motive check at a –20 penalty opposed by the creature's Bluff check.

15 Ranks: You can read surface thoughts as above after 1 round. In addition, when attacked, you can attempt a Sense Motive check as an immediate action opposed by your target's attack roll. A successful check grants a +2 insight bonus to your AC against attacks from that specific opponent for 1 minute.

20 Ranks: You can read surface thoughts as above as a standard action. A successful check to gain an insight bonus to your AC also negates the attack that triggered it.

thing is its mind affecting and that's one Mind Trap + trigger power away from de-pain.

Q: If I have Ghost Template it my PC is undead, and has
Immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms).

If its then a Psion dos that mean none of its Psionic powers work on it??
I now it sound mad but I wanted to check before I throw out the idea.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

It means no mind effecting psionics will work on it.

Energy bolt and the like would still work, with the appropriate metapsionic feat.
EDIT: Oh I see what you mean. Can you give yourself morale bonuses...I dunno about that one.

yes take Mind Switch its Telepathy [Mind-Affecting] so from the undead point Immunity to all mind-affecting effects means most of her powers will not work :( just cant see a way around this. So might as well just go full Dread, or I am now thinking of Crytic it be less scary around the other PCs, she's got an intimidate of 80+

on another point

Traits, GMs I know you said we could have as many as we wanted but could I offer a caveat to that to limit the number.

Players can have one from each of the following, with traits got with feats able to give move.

-:[Magic/psionic-traits yep there are psionic-traits
-:[Regional Trait] back story
-:[Social Trait]
-:[Faith Trait]
-:[Combat Traits]
-:[Equipment Traits] more Back story
-:[Family Traits] more back story
-:[Race Traits] not everyone will get one but some may
-:[Religion Trait] nice to link into background
-:[Campaign Trait] Well they have been around

What do you think, not every one will need them all, I know I want be having that many, but some may.

I'm currently rolling one trait and I'm pretty happy with that.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Haven't gotten to traits yet...I usually use them to add class skills I don't already have, but he's already got the ones I wanted.

I've been obscenely busy with work this week. I'll get my draft description out as this weekend I hope.

I mean it doesn't work on people with epic levels of bluff. I just was wondering what your defense is, because it's something I haven't heard of and don't see on your character sheet.

Also, undead are absolutely immune to granting themselves morale bonuses. I'd recommend not being a ghost; they're one of the more powerful templates, and completely change what your character can and can't do, while also requiring you to be physically tied to a location and the fluff is probably not great for your concept.

Yeah, skill checks are a bit interesting with how they scale. :P

I'm looking for ways to buff my Acrobatics (adding Wis modifier was huge), so that I can canny tumble and deny people their dex against ye old mythic vital strike o doom.

On a related. Note:

Any suggestions on caster-y elf-y templates I could consider?

The entire point behind allowing any number of traits even from the same category is that at this high a level, with the rules we're using, those bonuses don't really do much.

But they are thematic and flavorful as hell and help nicely flesh out various aspects of your PC, like background, personality, etc, while also providing nice little bonuses.

Cool Monkeygod I see what your getting at.

I really liked the idea of an Test Elan from the time when some high level Psions where trying to perfect the processes. But Ghost was as close as I could get to the idea outside of the full dread. I agree its a little to powerful for the cost of only CR2

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Half celestial is always a good one. Good bonuses, resistances, and a slew of SLAs.
I don't know if there is a fey equivalent. Might be in Advanced Bestiary.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Ok, so I have an idea that I like but it's kind of unorthodox so I wanted to see how the GM and other players felt about it... I'm thinking about going lore oracle 20/loremaster 5//shaman[speaker of the past] 20/loremaster 5. That's not the unorthodox part. I want his motivation to be that he's discovered/believes that the multiverse exists in the collective imagination of a handful of human-like beings who are self-existent. He consciously tries to be interesting, and to get involved in significant events out of fear/concern that otherwise those beings will lose interest and forget about him.

I'm not picturing him as a deadpool type, cracking jokes through the 4th wall- in fact, he would try to avoid mentioning the imaginers for fear of upsetting them (though he may think about them from time to time...)

Thoughts?

Well. There are two directions this might go.

The man is insane. Realistic, well roleplayed insanity is tragic and dark.

The man is correct. We've just made everything a joke, and a bad one at that.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Yeah, pretty much had the same thought here. Why would a person give a crap about others if he honestly believed they were figments, or that events were going as designed by the imaginers?

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Technically he is correct... The idea is sort of that he's somewhat aware of the reality that he exists in our imagination... I don't want that to completely ruin immersion for anyone else though, that's why I asked.

@kryz- he cares because 1) he has to believe (or at least hope) they're all "real" even though their reality exists within the minds of others, and 2) he thinks that what the imaginers are interested in him doing.

I made a PC like that once in Call of Cthulhu [Delta Green] Game, this was his [sanity insanity] if you get where I'm coming from. The other players loved it. He went around saying thing like "But you can't do that, not unless they roll a 50 or less" and "If I get shot it will take away my hit points" and the GM had the NPCs act like he was nuts etc. His last words where, "I think he just fumbled my drive check." As a Jeep he had stolen went off a LA cliff road. Not saying your PC would go around talking RPG rules all the time and saying to all in the game his 'player' had done stuff but it was fun to play. My old game group still talk about that PC when I meet them.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

ok fair enough

Hmm. Unsure about that Nate. Could be interesting, could end up very much annoying. Not that you would intend that, but through development/growth of the character once he gets in game.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I'm not married to the idea. I was thinking about possible motivations for an uber-loremaster and that seemed like a unique option (and that self-awareness would be sort of the ultimate piece of lore). I can think about other options though.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

When are you making your final decisions, guys?

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

TCG, "seelie creature" template in Advanced Bestiary looks elfy.

Probably not till at least Sun, since I am still unsure what, exactly, everybody is definitely playing.

To my knowledge, we have a monkey-monkey, a monkey-mummy, a dwarfy-dwarf, a dwarfy-giant, an elfy-elf, and an elfy-ghost.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

elany-giant...I am definitely playing DT if chosen.

You're only half as tall as a normal giant, so you're a dwarfy-giant.

... I may or may not be letting my avatar influence me, as the amount of giggling I have done over my "wordplay" is rather excessive.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

I can't argue with that :)

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Sorry, I'm trying to lock things down.

How do you feel about a loremaster searching for an impossibly obscure piece of information- his own name... I'm thinking about having my backstory be that through contingent reincarnation spells he's literally thousands of years old (and maybe from another planet or plane). Because reincarnation fades your previous memories (and he's done it soooo many times) he's lost all knowledge of his first/real identity.

That seem ok to you MG? There might need to be something more going on than just time (otherwise i might be able to just wish for the info or something too easy like that).

Not a ghost any more, the Template broke my classes, I have two builds working out which to play, If picked, one build is simple and would be for the GM the other is a bleeding Nightmare haha.

Huh! Sunday's a little soon. I've got everything except items/estate expenditures, though, so I could just leave those bits out. (As in, I've spent around 900k, not sure what to do with the rest and haven't stated cohort yet)

Relax, game won't actually be starting till at least after Thanksgiving weekend.

If needed, I will push back my selections until next weekend, but we'll see. Waiting on Fnord to reply to my PM.

thunderbeard wrote:
Alright. Instead of posting dumb teasers, here's my rough draft of a character backstory. (Since this is still an interest check, a full character would be absurd, though I did calculate skill bonuses because those are hilarious at level 25)...

Taking a page out of Thunderbeards book, I’ve started the mechanic build, but it is completely ridiculous in the best kind of way. The only way I could to it is on paper, but I’ll transfer it digitally when I’m done.

Grand Magister Belgraen

Race: Elf "Leshay"
Alignment: NG (Keeps his word, pays his debts, loves his homeland. However, his extremely long lifespan has given him perspective regarding the greater good.)

Class:
1-20 Wiz 20 (Teleport) / Clr 20 (Fire/Storm)
21 Monk (Zen Archer)/Fighter (Archer)
22 Monk (Zen Archer)/Fighter (Archer)
23 Monk (Zen Archer)/Fighter (Archer)
24 Arcane Archer/Fighter (Archer)
25 Arcane Archer/Fighter (Archer)
(i'm not entirely sold on the fighter levels. I wasn't sure what else to do. I may change them out. We'll see. Same flavor though.

Role: Magical multitool, Knowledge monkey, problem solver, facilitate the parties ability to kick a**

Titles: Archtheurge, General of the queens army, Fiendscourge, Master of the Green Tower, the all knowing, The Everliving, Kyonin’s finest, Queen Telandia Edasseril, The Many as One

Organizational Affiliations:
Member: Green Faith, Pathfinder

Allies: All those loyal to Kyonin, Eagle Knights

Opposes: Aspis Consortium, Red Mantis, Whispering Way

Description::

Belgraen is ancient even for an elf. His exact age is not common knowledge, but mentions of him can be found in writing dating back over 4000 years.

Belgraen seems to be everywhere. This is in large part to his network of Simulacra that act on his behalf across the multiverse. (See below)

In person he’s much of what you’d expect from an archmage and some not. Calm, collected, Supernatually intelligent. However, he’s also quick with a joke. His sense of humor is a bit dark, but he rarely follows through with promises to turn people into woodland animals.

He is fiercely loyal to his homeland and has been known to both work quietly and loudly to protect its interests as the situation warrants.

For all his power, he understands his limitations. However, he’s always looking to expand his power and thereby reduce his limitations.

Personality::

Belgraen is NG. He acts for the greater good as much as possible, but understands the need to cross the line when necessary. Overall he’s a kind and jovial type, but doesn’t suffer fools. He makes a distinction between actual ignorance and willful ignorance. The former he is kind to and the latter less-so.

Holdings: :

The green tower: There are many schools of magic in Golarion, but none so coveted by potential students than The Green Tower. Located in the heart of Kyonin the Green tower is an obelisk of immense sixe that towers into the sky, towering above the largest treetops. The exact location is two days ride from the Elven capital.

Various Demiplanes

A manor house in the Kyonin capital: A gift from an long passed Elven king. This is where Belgraen stays when he has business requiring him to be in the capital for long periods. The house is well maintained, but Belgraen rarely visits. Hasn’t made an appearance in the last 200 years or so.

Allies, Demiplanes, etc:

Work in progress, but so far:

Milani – Cohort, Master chef and potion maker / Spymaster (Specifics TBD, but I think Clonemaster Alchemist)

The Howling Storm (Truenaem creature) – Elder Lightning Elemental

The Guardian – The Uber-guardian of The Path. Details TBD

Intelligence network – Over the centuries Belgraen has set up a Pyramid shaped network of spies and informants all over the planet/multiverse. Many are humanoids, but not all. His network includes awakened animals & plants, simulacra of himself and others, and more esoteric things. They remain mostly unknown because they pass messages via telepathy. Each agent is connected to the network via permanent telepathy. The telepathic pyramid scheme has a series of handlers, each with multiple agents, eventually working themselves up to the spymaster, Milani. Milani is the only one directly connected to Belgraen Telepathically. He only disturbs Balgraen if he cannot handle a situation himself.

Simulacra – Belgraen has an unknown number of simulacra. Many of which are telepathically connected to Belgraen so that he might “be in more than one place at a time.” The simulacra handle the majority of situations and Belgraen gives instructions on what needs to be done.

Demiplanes (Greater)
Note: Only The Path is common knowledge.

- The path: network of permanent gates connecting strategic points on Golarian. Timeless plane where magic above 3rd level is restricted unless one possesses the Belgraens arcane mark. Any who behave and pay the toll are free to use The Path. However, The Guardian has several tricks to bar the entrance of any group or individual he chooses. There’s a toll at the entrances that varies according to reason for travel and ability to pay. A peasant visiting a sick relative may be allowed to travel for free wherein a wealthy merchant wishing to move goods across will be charged heavily.

- Alpha Node: Small Secret demiplane where Belgraens true body stays. (More details on that later)

- The Green Tower: The Green Tower is a demiplane attached to the aforementioned obelisk. This large (multiple castings) demiplane is a training ground for elite casters. A demiplane is used both for the opulence and the safety of others. Here is where the high-evel secrets of magic are shared with the chosen few who are deemed worthy.

- The Estate: This large demiplane (multiple castings) is Belgraens home as much as anything is. There is a large mansion and expansive grounds. This is where Belgraen escapes the world for a time, entertains guests, and provides sanctuary for those worth who ask for it.

- The Horde: Belgraens dirty little secret. He finds undead distasteful, but he’s a pragmatist at heart. When Belgraen finds or feels the need to make undead he stores them in this plane. The place is teeming with a variety of mostly low-level uncontrolled undead. In times of great need or desperation he opens a portal to release the horde upon an evil population. To date he’s only used it once against a large Drow City whose Matron Mothers had nearly completed a plan to bring devastation to Kyonin. With time short Belgrean opened the portal in the middle of the city. In the ensuing chaos Belgraen was able to thoroughly dismantle the Matron Mothers machinations.

- There are other demiplanes of various uses around Golarion and the multiverse that Belgraen has established for favored Allies. Multiple Bountiful demiplanes around Kyonin to augment the food stores in times of war, for example.

Here's the shell i'll be using for Belgraen.

Curious, how did you build your version of the Leshay?

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

My laptop just completely died...

I have to start working everything up again, on my phone... Well, on paper but then I'll have to type it up. There's no way I'm gonna be done with that by tomorrow, but I can at least have up what most people have been posting (race concept, level breakdown, mythic path, role).

I am still waiting to hear the GMs' thoughts on the millienia old loremaster who's forgotten his own origin... If that's cool I'm gonna run with it as a speaker of the past shaman/lore oracle and I'll build his race kind of based on the idea of having been reincarnated a lot of times (probably a human base with some characteristics picked up from other humanoid races, and some samsaran-esque elements). If the GMs aren't into that idea I've also been working on a noble Aasimar monk/cleric of Shelyn I could post instead. Mechanically he's more well-rounded but I have a better handle on the loremaster's personality and motivation...

Let me know and I'll get up the summary post ASAP.

In the end I went back to my core Idea of a Noble Elan, agent of the Elan Council. The dread just the wrong feel about it. She is 100% psionics, just because I wanted to see what would happen with one at this level. Also this build will be a lot less trouble for a GM to work with and understand. She has a pure feel to her now I like much better.

LN Noble Elan [Gestalt]
G1: Psion - Telepath L25
G2: Cryptic L25
Mythic: [Overmind] M1.

m
My mini-leshay "race" is as follows:

- Standard Elf - 10 RP
-Advanced Int +6 - 15 RP
- Advanced Dex +4 - 9 RP
- See in Darkness - 4 RP
- Quick Reactions (improved initiative) - 2 RP
M

My "Divine Monkey Human" is as follows.

Standard Human but with Advanced Stat array (+Phys, +Wis, -Cha), some points, don't think it's higher than 18.
Cloud Step (perfect Flight speed 120) 22 points.
Tail (No Stat, just for funzies.)

Initial offering; this is without equipment.
