The night passes without any further attacks, but all is not well. As you begin to settle into the room, Khazmia suddenly starts to feel week, her face drooping almost as if it were melting. 3 Con, 6 Cha damage
Kyson fears it's the curse of the mummies, a potentially deadly affliction!

Also moving on, since I figure you can deal with a couple things at once.
In the morning, the two rods fit smoothly into the pedestals and the doors open with a screech of protest, flooding the chamber with fresh salt air from the world outside. Beyond the doors is a broad set of seaweed-chokes stairs that lead down to a small beach.
To the west off the map, but through the water, you can see the land rising up, eventually forming a winding cliffside path leading about 80 feet up.
Khazmia Makuhuzdia |
"Ky-bwon! Whabet ibwe habbwening to ma fabece?"
Khaz groans, and tries to hold her face back where it goes, but the drooping gets one of her lips caught on a tusk. Horrified, she turns a horrified and nearly hopeless gaze towards the scribe.
Kyson Tirc |
"What happened to your face?!" Kyson says uncouthfully, after hearing Khaz' wails of sorrow in the morning.
I could look upon her before...but this?! Kyson's hand partially blocks his eyes lest he be struck blind as he tries to figure out what is going on.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 Heal
"Mummy rot?! MUMMY ROT!? Holy piddlespot!" Kyson looks scared, then confused, then, in realizing he wasn't helping Khaz much, tries to keep a brave face.
"Don't worry! I can fix your deformity! It's not as bad as I think, I'm sure you aren't halfway into becoming a gibbering mouther. Uhm.." Kyson wrings his hands, formulating a plan.
"Let's go pray to the sun. Yeah, Sarenrae will give us guidance. And help fix your face. Oh goddess, please let us fix your face!"
Kyson will lead Khaz to a quiet place to pray, hopefully looking toward the rising sun. He will do so without touching Khaz lest any of 'it' get on him.
He will pray for solutions to Khaz's face, hoping for something more than a sack with eye holes cut out. Remove Curse*2, Remove Disease*2, Lesser Restoration*1.

Zstelian Karela |
Zstelian tries not to look worried as Kyson returns.
"How is she?" he asks while trying not to stare at the princess.
"Do you think she's well enough to travel?"
Kyson Tirc |
"Oh, I can't stand to see her this way, Zstelian!" Kyson answers. "But she'll be somewhat fine for the day. Tomorrow, we can try again to fix her, Sarenrae willing."
Kyson, saddened by his failure, mopes as the de-camps and tries to avoid looking at Khaz.
Sorry.
Sekathral |
Sekathral cheers up once the doors open and the party emerge onto the beach.
"Smashing. Sarenrae's light and Besmara's garters - that's more like it! Don't worry, mate"
He gives Khazmia a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
"Your phizzog don't look any worse than mine. Besides, the lad'll fix you up - he's good at that sort of thing. Failing that, stand beside Avner and you'll look gorgeous in comparison no matter what."
He makes a vulgar sign at the aristocrat, then sits down and rolls a joint, humming tunelessly to himself as he does so.
Khazmia Makuhuzdia |
Khaz bends her body to morning prayers, thanking Saraenrae for whatever healing might come her way. Kyson lays his hand upon her and she
She tries to smile at Sekathral's cheerful comments. "Thanks, Seka. I may need to do that, at least for awhile."
A princess *doesn't* cry! That's just a little sea salt in my eye.
From one side, she doesn't look so bad. The other, though... the other...
"Thank you, Kyson. I'm sure you did your best." At least I can talk again, not that I want to.

The aristocrat smiles mirthlessly at the elf's jab. "Well, should we just sit here and smoke, or move on."
Amella stands at the end of the water, looking up at the sky with a broad smile on her face. "Thank the gods we're out of the death trap. Even the dwarves didn't want to spend all their bloody time flaming underground."
Silvio Callgari Pazzi |
Always acting first Silvio is startled by Khaz's change in appearence. "Gah! Cayden's cups, wha.." he exlaims before gathering himself. "Good morning, lady Khazmia. You look different this morning", he says and follows it up with a pearly smile in an atempt to smooth things over.

Khazmia stiffens at Silvio's outburst. After a moment, she smiles as demurely as she can. "Thank you for noticing."
Head held high, she turns on her heel and stalks out into the morning sun. If the sight of her offends anyone, well then, they should cover their eyes!
Silvio Callgari Pazzi |
Silvio tense posture relaxes visibly as Khazmia smiles and walks away. "The Silvio charm never fails", he says and and walks over to Kyson. "Silvio's good friend Kyson!" he greets the cleric and then lowers his voice slightly. "Have you seen the abomination that the Lady Khazmia has suffered? You must fix this! No woman should be made to go through life looking like that!"
Kyson Tirc |
Kyson cringes as Silvio so adeptly points out Kyson's failure, then rubs his (and Khaz's) face in it.
"Yeah, I know. I know, Silvio. Sometimes, it doesn't work right. Sometimes. But I'll fix it tomorrow," Kyson looks hopeful that tomorrow is better than today. "Tomorrow it will be different."
Kyson answers while pushing the people out onto the beach and moving back into their marching order.
As he marches out, he sidles up to Zstelian.
"Uhm...we don't have food today. Well, not magic food from Sarenrae. I had to, uh...I had to do things differently to help Khaz. And her face. So we might get hungry if we don't have enough stores. I can take care of the water...but food might be an issue. Just thought you should know."
Kyson walks in silence for a while before glimpsing another peek of Khaz's face.
"Come to think of it, tomorrow might be more of the same. I need to try better tomorrow or Khaz is going to be ugly forever."
Sekathral |
Sekathral spits out of the side of his mouth, narrowly missing Avner's boot, but says nothing in reply to him, merely remarking, ""***king well right!" in response to Amella's words.
He overhears Kyson talking to Zstelian and stalks up to them.
"Big, pointy ears", he says, tapping them in an attempt to explain "Can't we arrange for some sort of "accident" to happen to that sodding horse? Shame to see all of that scoff going to waste..."
He looks from one to the other and winks, running a finger along the edge of his dagger as he does so.
Zstelian Karela |
Zstelian nods at Kyson’s assessment. ”We can spend some time foraging today. It’ll slow us down but people starving will slow us down even more. Just do what it takes to get Khaz better, okay?”
The old ranger laughs at Seka’s comment. ”The horse is more valuable than his owner. If anything I’d like to see that blue-blooded fool have an accident.”

It is not flat-footed
Sekathral slams his blade into the crab, a thunderous roar echoing through the cove, and is easily able to slip out of its grasp as it goes limp.

Kyson looks at Silvio, then the crabs, then to Zstelian.
"Before me move on, did we want to harvest his crabmeat? I likely won't be able to give Sarenrae's meal if we're trying to save Khaz's life. This food looks like food to me."
He looks back at Avner.
"Maybe we can use that horse's ass to help us move the crabs up to the beach so we can cut them up. Of course, I'm not sure how to do that."
Kyson wonders if people want to eat or keep moving, wondering if any notice how even though Sarenrae wasn't able to provide prayer-food, she still provided.
Sarenrae, you rock.

"I say we build a ***king great fire and roast the buggers in their shells. Or we can smoke 'em, then they'll keep. That's right, ain't it?"

"Fine," Avner says, clearly cowed, but also clearly not happy.
Urol chatters excitedly, sure these crabs will be good eating. "I mean, they'd almost have to be, right? Wouldn't they?"
Once you've finished harvesting the crab meat, you make your way up the path, climbing 80 feet to the top of the cliffs overlooking the shore.
Urol huffs and puffs as he reaches the top, but seems happy as he looks around, his high spirits shared by Amella and Tavey, who both seem thrilled to be out of the dark caves.
Urol's excitement grows as he discovers what appears to be the remains of ancient path. "Look at this? It must have been made by the ancient Olmans! And if it's lasted this long, well, it must be safe. If we follow this, it should just be six days along the coast, before we need to turn inland a bit!"
Zstelian Karela |
Zstelian shakes his head at the excitable gnomes. "I hope you're right. Nothing on this island has been safe yet."
"How long after we turn inland?"
Silvio Callgari Pazzi |
"So you are telling Silvio that there is at least another seven days before we reach Farshore?" Silvio asks with his brow furrowed. "Well, there is nothing to do about that except continue. Luckily that's why the world has created heroes like Silvio", he continues and starts to stride down the prepared path.
"What makes you think that the path is safe? Except that Silvio now walks upon it, of course."
motteditor RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |
"Well, look how well its survived," he says, pointing to the damaged roadway. "The Olman were quite the masters of their terrain, back in the day. Look at the craftsmanship!"
The gnome bends down, poking at one of the stones in the bed of the path.
"Oh!" he says at Silvio's question. "I think it will still be a few days after to reach Farshore, but we're definitely getting close now. If memory serves, we'll have to go to Tanaroa first, one of the Olman villages."
Eventually set, you head out along the path, which winds along the coast, occasionally keeping you 100 feet above the pounding surf below and other times descending back to sea level to traverse stretches of rocky beach. Though their are definite signs of erosion, the path remains wide enough in most places for two of you to walk abreast.
Thunderstrike seems nervous along the trail, shying at various noises, occasionally at risk to plummet over the side as he does so.
Tavey also seems at risk for the same, as he tries to show Silvio his "swordwork," running up cliffsides and leaping off, while swinging a large stick he's picked up.
Kyson Tirc |
LOL@Silvio.
Kyson helps back and cook all the crabmeat he/they can carry (which is significant with Ant Haul) and is happy to follow Urol's directions towards safety.
Kyson makes a mental note to add some "Things he's Done" to his list, hopeful to have the opportunity to return home and be allowed to go back to the ways things were.
"Khaz, you okay? We'll get you fixed up tomorrow. I promise."
