Hey All--
Everybody please remember to post your current HP in your status every once in a while. I try to avoid the metagamy stuff, but if you're clearly injured I will know that you need healing. A couple hit points here and there won't be noticed I think, but below half, or as our HP grow below a quarter should be visible enough to Kyson.
A note on Kyson's character, as a reminder.
Hopefully we'll be able to pool our resources to get a Wand of CLW (or two) so that the burden of healing may be shared amongst us and Kyson won't have to worry about being the sole source of healing.
Thanks for your help with all this. Like Motte said above, I really like the characters and RP and hope to expand Kyson's connections to more than just Silvio and Sekathral.
As this PbP ages and matures, it's the connections that we build now that we will build upon during stressful and difficult times (both IC and OOC) so I hope to find nice ways to RP with Finn, Dargon, & Zstelian.
And I hope each of you are doing the same for the rest of the party.
-Kyson

Hey all, I may be distracted a bit for the next few days, though I'm hoping to still post at least once every 24 hours. I'm absolutely loving this group and adventure so far. You guys regularly crack me up, but I'm also thrilled with all the interactions and role-playing.
Back on shore, everyone can advance to SECOND level. (And anyone who promises to vote for me in subsequent rounds of Superstar can get yet another level!*)
Please let me know what you want to do in the night (it's fine if it's just to return to your abodes and rest, as otherwise you'll start suffering fatigue) and then your next steps in the morning.
* No, not really.

I'm behind buying a CLW wand as well, unless the wand we found happens to be one. Even then it might make since to have a second as I believe Finn and Zstelian can both make use of one.
Personally I'd also want to give Finn 50gp to make me a potion of expeditious retreat and a potion of shield and spend 50gp on a CLW potion. That should leave me with a net 25gp added to my coffers.

Finnwappet Luggnagg |

Good point on the potions! Who wants potions of what?
Crazily, according to RAW, potions of Expeditious Retreat and Shield aren't possible, because they are Personal range spells. But, the GM is more than able to create an exception, if he so chooses. That leaves Reduce Person and Disguise Self.
I was tempted to take Touch of the Sea as my new formulary spell, and that can be potioned as well.

Patrik Ström |

sigh, another day of being pressed for time. i've at least gotten to updating Silvio's character sheet.
New level changes (1 level in fighter):
+8 hit points (+6 from fighter level, +2 from con) (we are allowed to take average hit points rounded up, right?)
Quick Draw (fighter bonus feat)
5 more skill points that go into:
+1 knowledge local (Silvio has picked up a thing or two while drinking and whoring)
+1 bluff (Silvio's stories haven't gotten any milder)
+1 diplomacy (who can resist the Silvio?)
+1 swimming (he has done some)
+1 intimidate (you do not want to be on the recieving end of Silvio's impressive swordplay)
that's all i think.
Buying a wand of CLW sounds like a good plan. You can donate most of Silvio's cut to the group fund.

I don't know of anything in RAW that would prevent it. As long as the potion has a casting time of less than a minute, spell level of 3 or less and targets at least one or more creatures or objects. A range of Personal is considered to target you, which would satify the target one or more creatures or objects requirement. You just can't create potions of summon monster or alarm. I believe most spells actually have a target entry now to clarify it. But this is all based off of the Brew Potion RAW as I've read it, if there is something in the Alchemist that changes the rules for them, I've missed it. Even so, Expeditious Retreat and Shield are classic potions so even if there is a burb in RAW that prevented their creation now, they deserve a pass.

Zstelian Karela |
Personal spells cannot be made into potions. I don't know about Expeditious Retreat and Shield being classic potions as they are not mentioned anywhere. Personal spells can be made into pseudo-potions with Craft Wondrous in the form of elixirs.
Depending on what infusions Finn ends up taking, he could also prepare infusions of Shield and share those.
HOW MUCH IS A POTION OF SHIELD?
I think the last time we had potions of Shield was... 2e?

Finnwappet Luggnagg |

Creating Potions
The creator of a potion needs a level working surface and at least a few containers in which to mix liquids, as well as a source of heat to boil the brew. In addition, he needs ingredients. The costs for materials and ingredients are subsumed in the cost for brewing the potion: 25 gp × the level of the spell × the level of the caster.
All ingredients and materials used to brew a potion must be fresh and unused. The character must pay the full cost for brewing each potion. (Economies of scale do not apply.)
The imbiber of the potion is both the caster and the target. Spells with a range of personal cannot be made into potions.
Emphasis mine.
And the last time we had Potions of Shield was never. Potions were not spells in a bottle in 1e or 2e.

Dargon Dolgrinson |

I stand corrected. I only read the feat and the Potions section in the magic items section. In the third part of the book talking about potions "Creating Potions" it does clarify that personal spells are a no no. So scratch those and I'll just pick up a potion of enlarge person instead. :)

Dargon Dolgrinson |

Great news and great submissions by the way. With some of the others I couldn't grasp why there were even selected but both of yours were very good concepts.
The mirror was one of my favorite items.
I did feel the scope of the unfettered org was probably a stretch for the game world (just because I'm in the camp that the unfettered should be rare), but the idea was great and helps mainstream the summoners' presence in the world. Something I feel all the APG races need.
I'm being serious, no bonus XP required. :)

Regarding splitting the party: it's definitely easier to handle in PBP than at the table. Heck, I remember one game I ran, and at one point, every PC ran off on his own and encountered their own challenge as a result.
That adventure was a Ravenloft adventure, even.
(But hey, I've got an only-at-the-table rule in the games I run. The players are both audience and participants; let them sit back and eat popcorn while someone runs off in another direction, maybe give them NPCs if I feel like it.)

As I assume you'll all be able to figure out, Khazmia (a half-orc sorceress) is going to replace Finn. Based on timing, I figured it was easiest to just retcon and act as if she's been with us the entire time, since we're not really in a good location to sub Finn out and Khazmia in more organically. She's also starting down a few resources to simulate Finn's use of his bombs.

Zstelian Karela |
Actually grapple has been nerfed into oblivion. A creature that's grappled can attack normally with almost no penalties. It has a -2 to attacks but you have a -4 to attacks so the attack modifiers are a wash.

Thanks, Zstelian. I actually suck at grappling and have to look it up every time. From what I could see in the prd, the grapplee can choose to forego an escape attempt (at which point it would need to make a CMB roll) and do a full attack. Its weapon choice is limited but that doesn't matter if it's got natural weapons.

Just FYI, I updated the campaign info tab, mostly the NPC section. (I'll try to keep it updated, as I think it's a valuable resource in a PBP, but also please feel free to let me know if you want me to add any details -- like if you think someone's suspicious or just something you want to make sure you'll remember about an NPC/place/etc.)

Whoops. Verdigris points out that failing the concentration check to cast defensively actually means you lose the spell, as opposed to just taking the attacks of opportunity (which is what we do in my home game).
I'm willing to let it go off as a DM error if that's what you'd all prefer, or we can retcon it so the spell did not go off... I'll go with players' vote. (Just let me know and you can post actions for either circumstance...)
