Oh! Also, I'd write down your license number and put it in a very safe place!!! I've had computers crash before and lost my digital version of the license number, and it is a bit of a headache to get your license from Wolflair. Though, as far as that all goes, I've always had very positive experiences with customer service. Sometimes it just takes a while and few back and forth emails before everything gets sorted out.

Just to check, Mended: was I right to go back and mark off one use of my Fire Bolt ability with Kairon? I didn't ask (and don't recall if it was specified) whether or not the LEVEL UP! effect "recharged" everything, or just added instances where appropriate . . . .

Oh, great question!! I know that's one thing a lot of GMs handle differently. I have always said a level up is like a magical moment in the game where not only do you gain new powers, all your old powers are recharged.

Divergent Aside:

I actually had a group level up in the middle of a battle once, because things were turning SEVERELY south, and we were all (GM included) too invested in these characters and their stories to end up TPK'd. That is one of the many advantages of leveling up when the GM says so, as opposed to strictly by the numbers. Thankfully, that level up was just the trick to turn things back north, and the group ended up surviving the combat, though not entirely unscathed. We had to take a femur bone from the barbarian's acid destroyed corpse to the local divine casters for a raise dead. Sadly, though this is neither here nor there, that same group got wiped by a lich only a few sessions later. Which, incidentally, I partially blamed on my in-combat level up from before. I think I gave them an over-exaggerated sense of deus ex machina and they started to strut where they should have been wary. Likewise unfortunate, real life stuff happened right at that time and caused me to have to stop gaming with that group. So, sadly, that group ended with a TPK. Not one of my finer gaming moments, but I digress.

So any uses of spells and powers are automagically recharged. I always felt that leveling up was such a powerful metagame thing, that it should have some in-game rewards beyond just the "new stuff" application. So, please, everyone, make sure all your spells, powers, and abilities are recharged when finishing your documentation of leveling up. :)

Is that to be understood to apply to HP, as well?

YES! Full HP all around! Hip hip hooray! Although I think only Goruck was below full anyway? Right?

Hey folks! Sorry I have been quiet, I've been all kind of sick with something awful. Maybe the Flu-Lite? I don't know. I'll have Baradim updated to lvl. 2 soon and post soon as well.

@Stormstrider - I know I have been super quiet on the other campaign for the same reason. I do have my warpriest done, if you still are willing to let me in to play. Let me know at your earliest convenience. <3

Question oh great master of both the dungeon and the hero-lab ... So, when I level up my sheet in hero-lab & save it, do I have to erase the current one in the google drive & re-save the newly leveled up sheet in the drive again, then copy/paste the google link into the campaign again? Or is there some way to just refresh that one in google? or what? Do you understand what I'm asking/saying?

And to think, as of the beginning of February I didn't use google drive except for documents sent/rec'd by email. Now I currently have 18 things that are just for my other campaign! And now I'm learning about hero-lab as well! I have learned SO, SO MUCH in these last 2 weeks! Thank you Mended! If it weren't for you having started this PBP for beginners, who knows if I would have learned anything lately? THANK YOU!

It is seriously and sincerely my pleasure to spark learning where this hobby is concerned! Thank YOU!!! For taking your passion and turning it into fun. I've found that some of the most enjoyable things in life are where are passions and our fun collide. The more people that are actively enjoying this hobby the happier I am. Not sure why I get joy out of that, but I do.

As to your Google question, I usually just trash the old version, upload the new version, then copy the new link, and update the URL of the link on my profile. Does that make sense?

OH! And is there a way to get your journal entries on your hero-lab to show on your sheet that goes to PDF? Or how else can I enter 'loot' picked up such as the fly statue and the soul-speaker so that they show on my character sheet? Can it be done?

EDIT: Yes, your answer makes sense. I do find that that seems like a bit of a pain in the ... I wish there was a way to "refresh" the google doc!

As of yet I have not discovered a way to refresh a Google Drive file. As to the misc. loot showing up on the sheet. One of the easiest ways to do that is to just add "Custom" items. I don't have Hero Lab at work and I can't remember exactly the name of it, but, when you are purchasing gear there are options for "add custom" stuff. Like I know you can add custom containers. When you do that, you get to name the container, say how many GP it is worth and even what it weighs. When you add that to your gear it will show up on the sheet under "gear." I think there is an option just to add custom treasure... But I'd have to take a look to be sure.

This caused an extreme reaction I really do not understand. Especially as he was not able to point to a single pun I had made that was not made on an occasion. Mysterious.

While I am talking to you, do you have a suggestion for a 1st level witch spell. I have snowball and web bolt. Mage armour seems indicated, but I expect you and/or Dolok have that. Speaking of which we arcane casters should get together and swap spells.

And while I am interrogating your PF rules knowledge, if I get an improved familiar, do I have to go through all the rigmarole to get my spells into it again? Likewise if Athena dies.

Pardon me if I may? First, Dolok does have mage armor, but in my humble opinion it's a spell, that no spellcaster should go without if they have access to it, though I say the same thing about magic missile.

I agree that we should try to 'co-ordinate' our spell choices. Dolok has:
5 0 levels: dancing lights, detect magic, drench, ray of frost (which he can change to fire) & resistance.
2 1st levels: mage armor & magic missile.

(He could have had 2 more 0 levels for FCB, but preferred 2 HP instead. But after this when he levels he will choose the extra spell.)

As far as getting your spells back into your familiar, I'm fairly certain that in the RAW, it says yes, you have to. Obviously Mended has the ultimate say. But that is how it will be for my campaign.

I bought the "Ultimate Magic" for Hero-Lab and so I have updated my character sheet (again!) so that it now reflects my Efreeti bloodline. (Didn't make any difference for my character currently anyways - but in the future it will!)

Also, Mended since Myth-Weavers lost my character sheet, I could not remeber what traits & drawback I had taken, so I chose new ones. Please check them out and see if your ok with them! The 'Indentured Blacksmith' I know the trait says I was a hobgoblin slave forced to work as a blacksmith, but I figured with my backstory of working the forge with Mr. Figueroa, it fit. The benefit is choose craft armor or craft weapons (I chose craft weapons) and it becomes a class skill and you get a + 1 trait bonus. Also chose Reactionary, + 2 to initiative. Also, I was able to fix my AC by doing a "Adjustment, other". I have not found however, any way to add "Custom Gear" or any such thing.

This is really nice. My friend originally bought the hero-lab, and I don't know how but he somehow had an option where for $10 each he could get extra licenses to give to other people. They get access to anything he has bought for it, and if these other people (such as myself) buy something than he also gets access to it and the same for any other licenses he sells! So if he sold a license to John Doe now, and John Doe bought another book or whatever in Hero-Lab, I would also gain access to it! I was actually VERY happy to give him my $10!

@Dolok, everything looks just fine. I don't care about Indentured Blacksmith's flavor language really. I've always been really liberal with how I apply the flavor language of traits anyway. As long as a character's backstory includes an element that makes the choice clear, it's fine with me. Obviously, as you say, Dolok's backstory makes that trait perfectly clear. I forgot about that Adjustment tab, that is a nice place to do things like that. I'll have to look this afternoon at my own version of Hero Lab to see why I can add custom stuff and you can't. Maybe it's as simple as checking one of the boxes under "Configure Hero?" Regardless, I'll take a look this afternoon and let you know what I come up with. It won't be until probably 2:00 to 3:00 PM though, just so you're aware. That's awfully cool about the shared license bit. I'll have to look and see what that's all about. To get access to someone else's purchases for the price of $10.00 is quite nice.

@Chillel Max HP, always, for bad guys and good guys. There is never any rolling for HP in this campaign. You just get your HD worth of HP every level.

As to the familiar bit, I did some research and didn't come up with much. For some reason I have the thought that if you get a new familiar while your old one is still alive your two familiars need only commune with each other for an hour to transfer all your known spells to the new familiar. I can't actually find that anywhere though, so I may have just made it up. However! Very importantly, if Athena should die, you have to wait an in-game day before you can even perform the ritual to get a new familiar, and that would mean that Chillel is without the ability to recharge her spells for that entire 24 hour period. Point being, try not to let Athena die. Getting a new "Improved" familiar has level dependent requirements. So depending on what you were thinking about taking there, you'd have to be of the appropriate level first. If/when that happens in game, I'm sure we can find a way to have whatever kind of creature available for Chillel to obtain. :)

Okay, so when I updated my character sheet last time, I forgot what feats I had taken and chose the wrong ones. I've corrected it AND updated my character sheet link AGAIN!

But it has brought me to a RULES QUESTION: My feat Varisian Tattoo, gives me a + 1 to caster level for evocation spells AND gives me the spell like ability of dancing lights 3 times per day. So, since I have it as both a spell and an SLA, could I have 2 different 'dancing lights' spells going at the same time?

P.S.: I think we have enough lights for the party!

RE: the boat and the paladin

What's the duration of function for the swan boat, in total? If I recall correctly, we're looking at three hours' travel downstream before we're in the vicinity of Falcon's Hollow. If the circumstances are like what I expect, it seems entirely possible that the boat and paladin may serve an excellent narrative purpose. If there's more time that the boat will function, it may be very helpful for a quick evacuation for some of the townsfolk, and give Yirangle a perfectly reasonable "exit stage left" for Scipio.

Furthermore -- I want to mention my intent to have Kairon communicate with Lunarinus after his departure: send a letter (or several) to somewhere we could expect him to be able to receive it (PM here in Paizo/letter to the temple in Almas). It would keep part of the narrative ongoing, and keep Yirangle "in the loop", as it were.

What thoughts do y'all have? Mended? Yirangle? Everyone?

@Dolok, I don't see why you couldn't have an SLA Dancing Lights and regular spell going simultaneously. It's not game breaking. :D

@Syrus... Never even thought about that, but you are right. The boat lasts for a full 24 hours, and with the speed I've described Lunarinus could easily sail back to Almas of his own volition using the magical boat. I did put another "out" in my most recent post, so there's more than one way for him to get out of there... I guess I'll leave it up to the son of Scipio how he wants to handle that.

I confess I was expecting a little more " . . . and found the home fires still burning . . . " when we arrived . . . .

Oh, just wait. There's some fires going to be lit, I'm sure... As soon as you get a chance to talk to anyone of your friendly NPC contacts, you'll see what's what. I kind of wanted to give Lunarinus a free exit before things "heat up." >:D

Question, Spell templates, Is there any radius larger than a 20 ft radius? And if so what is it please? All I'm seeing is 10' & 20' radius, but it seems like there was something larger, or was that in DnD 3.5 only?

Also, Cones, two different templates @ 15' and two different ones @ 30' right? Any others?

And just to be clear since I'm on the subject, Line effects only come in 30' & 60 ' lines right?

@ Mended, on your spell templates on the map there is a light blue radius larger than 20'. If I'm counting correctly it appears to be a 30' radius. What is it for please? (Or was it a 'leftover' memory from DnD 3.5?)

Also a suggestion, could you put a link to the 'battle grid' at the top of the page as well? That way we don't have to search for a post from you to find that link? Yeah, I'm a lazy @#$!

EDIT: Another question, how do you draw shapes to get the cone templates? I was going to draw line by line, but then realized that would not be 1 object to be able to move around ... I don't see an option to do it in free form either (Though that would be difficult!).

Dolok, I answered some of your questions in PM, I think. Yes there is a 60' cone, Detect Magic is an often used spell that uses the 60' cone. There isn't a drawing of the 60' cone in the core rulebook because, for whatever reason, they expect you to just extrapolate the 60' from the 30'. As far as making spell templates in the Google Drawing, the easiest way is to use the "Polyline" feature. If you click on the "Select line" dropdown menu, you'll see polyline as one of the options. Polyline lets you make any enclosed shape that you want. Then you just need to select the object you've made, and make the "Fill" transparent, and change the color of the actual line. Boom! You've got yourself a template to set on the battle grid. Also, the nice thing about those templates is that they are adjustable. When you select the shape, you can just grab one of the corners and shrink it or enlarge it as needed to fit the shape of the grid map. Nice thing about Google drawing is that the maps themselves are adjustable, so you can adjust the size of the map, the size of the templates, the size of the character icons, etc. Everything inserted into the drawing canvas can be made bigger or smaller to suit needs. That's one of the reasons I like using Google Drawing instead of many of the other options. It provides a lot of flexibility.

As to your request of a link to the battle grid at the top. I'll go do that right now. :)

Battle Grid link is all the way at the very top. I even made it bold and all caps so it's easier to locate. :)

Character sheet

By the wy, on the battle-grid, there's several extra 10' squares off to the right side and some text to a character sheet link on the bottom left. I have some CDO issues (more commonly known as OCD, but I put it in alphabetical order! hahaha!). Does anybody mind if I remove those? This battle grid annoys my OCD enough as it is without those unnecessary things! (Please, no offense Mended!)

COOL!!!! Thanks! And bold & caps is a great idea! Obviously going to do it for my campaign as well!

And thanks for the instructions on the drawings! I think I tried EVERYTHING except polygrid! I've been trying for at least 2 hrs! Going CRAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ditched the 10' squares and the url address. Not sure where those came from in the first place. I'd rearrange all the conditions on the right side, but some of them are not independent, meaning I made one big text box, and put a bunch in it, not alphabetized. I guess stuff like that doesn't bother me at all. If you want to redo all that work on our battle grid here, I wouldn't be angry at you. :D

Thanks! Just might do what you mentioned ... we'll see.

I probably made the extra 10ft squares for silent image, as that uses several of them. I can recreate them when I need them again.

Oh yeah!!! The soldiers coming out of Grung's hut... WOOPS! Sorry I deleted those then, but I think there's a 10' square still there for grease, isn't there? We can just copy paste that one when/if we need more.

Edit: I looked, and yes there is a 10' square, AND Dolok did rearrange all the conditions into alphabetical order!!!! THANKS! Dolok, that does look a lot nicer.

They were probably the wrong size anyway. At some point, the map grid size changed, and I had to scale templates down when I wanted to use them again.

RE: church-appointed wands and such

I wasn't remarking upon capability, or cost -- I was remarking upon the fact that, so far, her involvement has essentially been purely political. Nobody wants their spiritual leader keeping any eye on them during sickness??

Not only would Kairon find that more than a bit odd, Syrus finds that a bit odd.

And isn't this the firat time Kairon said anything about it? In game, I mean?

Okay, when you get a chance too, take a look at the changes on the battle-grid. Mended if there's any problem let me know!

Now, if I could just do something about that pile of maps that's just laying around all disorganized like that, and that fog-of-war just haphazardly strewn about ... then we'd be getting somewhere!

:D ;)

Obviously I am biased about some of the changes I've made about the battle-grid, as I plan to copy them for my campaign! ;)

And thanks Mended! By the way, I wasn't through when you saw the alphabetical change, there's more! Color coordinated template colors with a matching label!

On a different subject, does anybody know of a place that sells some sort of templates made out of wire? Or something similar? Paizo had some, but the main batch is no longer available apparently. I'm considering trying to buy some, or make my own, for when I do Emerald Spire on table-top.

And back to the Battle-grid, just a suggestion here, but when you need a template, you could just copy & paste so as not to dis-organize all the lining up that I did! (Just my CDO kicking in!) But I know what that's like, so I promise not to get upset either when they get out of arrangement!
