Brandark Plainswalker |

Brandark takes up his customary position between Flynn and the rest of the party.
He tries, his best to be quiet while moving along with the group.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Brandark whispers
A quick peek in each door, and push on?
He moves up beside the first door in a spot to protect Flynn as he looks in the room.
If the group figures otherwise, i will continue in my normal place.

GM Mazra |

When Brandark opens the double doors, it creaks loudly. He sees an enormous chamber. The walls are mounted with dozens of trophy antlers, some taken from stags that must have stood as tall as dire bears. Most of the antlers are draped with bits of rotten flesh, strips of skin, or coils of viscera. To the west, a marble altar has been heaped with the mangled remains of at least a half-dozen dead men and women. A crude image of what might be a three-eyed jackal has been painted in blood on the wall above the altar’s alcove. It is a makeshift alter to the abomination Lamashtu.
A massive Ogre quietly and calmly sits here, creating what looks to be a taxidermy terror. Dead rangers, horses, and bits of giant eagle, hang about the room on bloody Hooks. Some of the creations on Hooks are of men with eagle heads sewn to their bodies, a horse with a woman’s face where its own face once drooped, dead men with huge sets of antlers jutting from their bodies, and men with stags’ heads and hooves. It is a managerie of horror.
A woman, the same one the party saw below, sits on the bloody alter as a queen. "Oh look Jaagrath, we have company. I told you that they may be coming," The woman says calmly.

CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
EFFECT
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Area 20-ft.-radius burst
Duration instantaneous (1 round); see text
Saving Throw Will partial; see text; Spell Resistance yes
DESCRIPTION
You draw down holy power to smite your enemies. Only evil and neutral creatures are harmed by the spell; good creatures are unaffected.
The spell deals 1d8 points of damage per two caster levels (maximum 5d8) to each evil creature in the area (or 1d6 points of damage per caster level, maximum 10d6, to an evil outsider) and causes it to become blinded for 1 round. A successful Will saving throw reduces damage to half and negates the blindedeffect.
The spell deals only half damage to creatures who are neither good nor evil, and they are not blinded. Such a creature can reduce that damage by half (down to one-quarter of the roll) with a successful Will save.
Will 18 for half & to not be blinded: 3d8 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) = 11
Will 18 for half & to not be blinded: 7d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 3, 2, 3, 2) = 23

Something Special |

@Garrath - All the Ogre Hide Armor are Large in size and would need to be tailored to fit a Medium-sized character.
Round One
Garrath hears Lucretia and flies into a rage. He gets past the big Ogre to get at this particularly nasty villain. Garrath slices into Lucretia.
(I am playing that the big Ogre was a bit over confident and was not ready to react to Garrath's sudden movement, even though it was not one of Garrath's better attempts.)
Kaven reaches the door to the room, but for some reason he just stands there as if a bit stunned.
Stone moves behind Brandark and tries to cast Holy Smite against the woman at the alter. But the spell fizzles and does not affect the elegantly clad woman.
Stone needs a 19 to overcome SR19: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Elektra cast Haste to speed up the party. Garrath is unaffected by the spell.
Garrath made his Saving Throw versus the spell, thus it does not work on the Barbarian.
Jaagrath also flies into a rage, the turns while picking up his wicked Ogre Hook, and attacks the puny human, I mean, big Barbarian.
Jaagrath's Attack 1 with Flank and Human Bane: 1d20 + 20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 20 + 2 + 2 = 402d8 + 16 + 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 16 + (2, 5) = 26
Garrath takes 26 points of damage less his DR. (At least it was only able to make one attack in the first round.)
"Oh Kaven, good to see you again. Be a dear and help your lover out,' the woman says as she uses a pair of knives in a whirlwind fashion against the big Barbarian.
Lucretia's Main Hand 1st attack with Flank: 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 18 + 2 = 231d4 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Lucretia's Main Hand 2nd attack with Flank: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 13 + 2 = 241d4 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Lucretia's Main Hand 3rd attack with Flank: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 2 = 251d4 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Lucretia's Off Hand 1st attack with Flank: 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 18 + 2 = 221d4 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Lucretia's Off Hand 2nd attack with Flank: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 13 + 2 = 211d4 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Lucretia's Off Hand 3rd attack with Flank: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 2 = 121d4 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Only the last attack missed. Garrath will take (9+9+9+11+10-15=33 points of additional damage, plus 5 points of Wisdom damage for each strike that hits.
Flynn gets a good look and sends three hasty arrows at Lucretia. The arrows seems to bounce off some kind of invisible field around the woman.
Brandark hacks into the big Ogre with his trusty axe.
(The big Ogre has a DR2/-)
Vale hears Lucretia's comment about Vale, "What! You and this thing are lovers! Ahhhhhh!" Vale moves and attacks Kaven. But Kaven was too nimble for the big Black Arrow.

GM Mazra |

I will Retcon Lucretia's Round One actions. I will say she would have needed to make a Move Action to stand up. As a result, only the first attacks from Main and Off-hand would have been allowed.

I am using the first rolls in the list.

Round Two
Garrath growls with his first attack cleaving into the red headed woman.
Kaven becomes hostile. He attacks Vale, "Sorry Vale. Lucretia is very persuasive." But neither attack penetrates Vale's chainmail.
Kaven's Rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 161d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Kaven's Dagger: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 171d4 ⇒ 1
Stone tries to hold the big Ogre. But now that Kaven is hostile, he takes an attack against the Cleric. Kaven's stab misses Stone.
Kaven's Rapier AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 101d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Stone gets his Hold Person spell off, but Jaagrath resist the attempt.
Jaagrath's Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Elektra begins to Summon in some help.
Jaagrath has an extreme hatred of humans. It attacks Garrath with a Rage that matches the big Barbarian's own. Jaagrath delivers two wicked slices into Garrath.
Jaagrath's First Attack with Ogre Hook and Flank, and PA: 1d20 + 20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 20 + 2 - 2 = 372d8 + 16 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 16 + 4 + (3, 5) = 31
Jaagrath's Second Attack with Ogre Hook with Flank, and PA: 1d20 + 15 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 15 + 2 - 2 = 302d8 + 16 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (2, 7) + 16 + 4 + (5, 5) = 39
Garrath takes 31 + 39 - 6 =64 points of damage. Garrath falls over unconscious.
"Thanks Jaagrath. He caused me to soil my dress," Lucretia shakes her head. "You can handle these. Too-da-loo."
The red haired woman disappears.
Flynn now focuses his attacks on the big Ogre. Two arrows pierce Jaagrath's Hide Armor. The other one glances off.
Flynn does 16 - 4DR or 12 points of damage.
Seeing his friend fall, Brandark becomes a Hasted whirl of axes. All three of his attacks hack into the big Ogre.
Brandark does 26 + 34 + 25 - 6DR = 79 points of damage.
That, unfortunately, doesn't drop the big Ogre.
Vale pours all his anger into ending the life of the treacherous Kaven Windstrike.
Vale's First Attack with Battleaxe and PA: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 10 - 2 = 241d8 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 4 = 13

GM Mazra |

Round Three Start
Stone selectively channels healing energies throughout the room, ignoring the Ogre. Garrath, stabilizes though he remains unconscious.
Playing a little fast and loose with the rules here. By the rules, Garrath will come out of his Rage when he fell unconscious. This would have been his death, and just about in almost any situation. Rage gives Garrath 14HPs. His Constitution is 14. This is a harsh condition for Barbarians, as Rage and unconsciousness will often mean death, particularly at higher levels. I am making a House Rule that the Rage will not immediately end until the end of the following Round. A cool down period if you will. I see it as the adrenaline still flowing through the body. This will give you an opportunity to heal. If he can't get healing, then he dies. If the damage exceeded his Constitution score while raging, he dies.
Elektra summons in a Hound Archon (Good Token.). It comes in flanking with Brandark. "Caleb has returned, Mi Lady," it says as the Archon hacks into Jaagrath Kreeg, the leader of this foul family of Ogres.
The big Ogre falls unconscious.
At about that time, another Ogre comes out of a set of double doors to the left. It sees Flynn and swipes at him with a massive club. The blow strikes Flynn. It just missed critically bruising a vital organ.
Red Ogre 2 Greatclub: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 292d8 + 10 ⇒ (2, 5) + 10 = 17
Red Ogre 2 Greatclub confirm Crit.: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 142d8 + 10 ⇒ (2, 1) + 10 = 13
Flynn takes 17 points of damage.
Garrath 24 (AC18 (-8/77)
Kaven 23 (AC20 D/49)

Flynn 9 (AC19 43/43)
Brandark 7 (AC21 55/55)
Vale 4 (AC18 53/53)
Flynn, Brandark, and Vale still can take actions in the Round. @Brandark - Since Jaagrath would have fallen before your initiative, you may redirect your actions to the new threat, if you want. I will wait to hear from Brandark and Flynn before posting Vale's actions.

Elektra Stardancer |

Politely asking Caleb to attack the other ogre, Elektra dashes to Garreth and gives him a healing potion. CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 Elektra did not do anything in this round, she waited if the way to garreth is clear

Brandark Plainswalker |

Brandark will move over the fallen bodies to the incoming Ogre, 20' takes me to where I am.
Edit, I guess you will be using the top attack. :(

Flynn Elric |

with the room being limited stepping back isnt much of an option. So Flynn will go total defense as a standard action and swift action to activate judgement . His AC increases by 6 points. He will drop his bow at his feet and drawhis Scimitar as his final action

Brandark Plainswalker |

At GM, I haven't had a chance to fully look at the unchained, but a change it does, the HP are temp, and it gives the rage bonus for str.
It does get rid of the hp issues for barbarians falling dead when they get knocked out by hp loss.

GM Mazra |

That makes sense. So no rule adjustment would have been needed. Garrath would have fallen at a -7HP. Stone's Channel Energy would have brought Garrath conscious at +6 at the beginning of Round Three. @Garrath, when you get a chance to review and post, please confirm.
I do have a question. Would Garrath be able to act in Round Three after Stone's healing? I would say yes, with a shift in the initiative. What would you say?

GM Mazra |

Round Three complete, well mostly
After seeing Caleb deliver the final blow to drop Jaagrath Kreeg, Elektra quickly moves over to Garrath, and administers a healing potion to the Barbarian.
Flynn takes a defensive posture, judges, then drops his bow, and draws out his scimitar.
Brandark turns and goes after the new threat. As the Dwarf Cavalier negotiates the fallen body of the traitor Kaven Windstrike, the big Ogre takes a swat at Brandark. Its club scrapes the ceiling disrupting the swing.
Ogre 2 AoO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 102d8 + 10 ⇒ (5, 1) + 10 = 16
Brandark doesn't miss with his axe as he hacks into the second red Ogre.
Out of the corner of his, Brandark sees another Ogre and Lucretia further behind in the room beyond this new set of double doors.
Lucretia smiles and gives a little wave at the Dwarf.
Vale will take a breather, and re-gather his wits after killing his once comrade.

I will say Garrath can take a Round Three action. Stone's Hold Person will be a Round Four action. Caleb will attack the new Ogre in Round Four, as he already took a Round Three action. I will wait till everyone post Round Four actions before doing a recap.

Round Four
Stone seeks aid from above to hold fast the new threat. The Ogre is held.
Elektra gives Caleb a touch of a Diviners knowledge.
Caleb moves against the now held second Ogre, strkiking it hard.
Garrath, his rage subsided, rises and moves closer toward Stone.
Moved Garrath to over the fallen Kaven Windstrike.
Lucretia moves behind the first red Ogre.
Suddenly from the level below, a large snake with the upper torso that looks like Lucretia engages Stone and Vale with two large knives. The boards beneath it creak from the weight. It smells distinctly like Lucretia's heavily applied lavender perfume.
The first red Ogre stands ready to clobber any that approaches.
Flynn picks up his bow and sheaths his sword.
Brandark nearly severs the second Ogre's head. It falls down dead.
Vale turns. His eyes grow wide. He attacks the snake woman. Some of his attacks look like they hit the terrible looking serpent.

Stone will see Vale's attacks and suspect that there is something wrong. Taking a chance he will ignore the monster and heal Garrath. will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Holy Smite: 4d8 + 7 + 9 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 3) + 7 + 9 = 27

Ogres |

OK. Thanks for the reminder on the Aura of Menace. Red Ogre 2 was held, so it would not have been able to do anything anyway. Red Ogre 1 has readied its actions, but actually didn't do anything in Round Four when the Hound Archon moved up. So, no Retcon required. I will go ahead and roll its Save. (It failed.) The Snake Woman is immune. What does Elektra and the Hound Archon do in Round Five?
Red Ogre 2 Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Garrath sees the red-haired woman step behind the ogre and tries to see if she's stayed there, when the snake woman appears near Stone. After getting healing from the cleric, his eyes narrow, You'll die just like your sister."
perception to see her behind the ogre: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
he'll then wait till next round so he can swap places with Stone, unless Stone still has movement this round, in that case
Garrath swaps places with Stone 5' step and attacks the snake thing.
1st attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
1st attack dmg: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (6, 6) + 11 = 23
2nd attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
2nd attack dmg: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (1, 5) + 11 = 17
