That leaves three players in the game. We'll probably need to recruit?
We've seen a total loss of three players over a roughly 5.5 year run. That's really amazing actually.
GM Crimson |
I'm willing to keep GMing. I'd be curious to see how Emileva, Firinne, Nebbin, and NPC-Kayleigh would fare as a party. But having a 4th voice (and 5th character) in the party is probably the way to go.
Let's hear what Firinne and Nebbin have to say.
GM Crimson |
Are you planning to keep Kayleigh active in the party for the long term?
Yeah, she's always been mostly a support character, between healing the party and trying to beat back the Blood Veil (plus flashing the occasional cow eyes at Nebbin).
I've never tried a gestalt PC so that's probably out.
Emileva Mavrakis |
Cool. I couldn't remember what you'd decided.
I wasn't really serious about gestalt, although it's a fun way to run a 3 person party. The power up isn't as great as it probably seems. Characters are much more flexible, but action economy and no increase in feats granted, along with the standard various class limitations still present mean things don't get too crazy. Of course there are some combos with archetypes that should be banned.
GM Crimson |
Could you please set me as Inactive for this campaign, GM? Thanks. :)
Done. Best wishes going forward!
FWIW, I think I'll have Tassira retire to her family villa to deal with her parents' issues. She'll also now have time to craft armor and weapons for the party. No melding with a cadaver-golem is planned. :)
Fírinne |
Sorry to see you go, Tassira!
I wouldn't mind recruiting a 4th player, but I don't have anyone in mind. Gestalt might be fun, I've never tried it. Even doubling up on my spellcasting with Wizard wouldn't be too crazy, since Magus abilities still only work with spells cast from Magus spell slots (so no stabbing anyone with disintegrate at level 11).
Emileva Mavrakis |
I couldn't resist taking a 'what if?' look at Emi's gestalt options and there aren't many choices for her given her ability scores. Probably the best option would be Investigator. Spell casting is pretty much off the table with her stats.
She would become better at skills, and pick up some alchemy. It would be hard to use for a while, but at higher levels she could stack Studied Target and Studied Combat/Strike for good accuracy and extra damage. Given that, it would be cool to pick up strength TWF with Rapier and Dagger and ditch the falchion. Maybe Vencarlo finally persuades her. :p
Nebbin Elsbet |
Sorry to see you go, Tassira. I would definitely like to recruit one or two more players. I don't really have much interest in gestalt (other than my remaining PBPs, I've switched to 2e, and I'm not looking for my 1e stuff to get more complicated).
For a new player, I'm happy to reach out to a few groups of reliable players I know and see if anyone's interested.

Thirded! So glad her player remembered that a character with Combat Reflexes can take AoOs while flat-footed! That part of the feat (like the buckler/shield AC penalty to attack rolls in Weapon Finesse) is one of those rules I know but then forget when I don't see it used for a while.
She would've dropped the wererat as well had I not pumped them up a bit in anticipation of a total cakewalk.
GM Crimson |
I can't move my icon in Roll20.
That's another thing I tend to forget when I haven't done it in a while.
Tokens should be assigned to the right players now.
Fírinne |
One thing that might be helpful in that regard is to make characters on there and assign them to us. Even if the page is empty of anything besides the name and token image, you can just drag it onto the map and it will automatically give us control instead of you needing to manually do it each time.
GM Crimson |
Round 5 action depends on what happened in 4. If wererat is still up, I'll try to strike him down. If not, I'll move to Girrigz and attack him.
Sorry; I was unclear there. Nebbin intimidated (Well, tried) in Round 4. After that, Girrigz appeared and Wererat #6 delayed and then attacked Kayleigh. With its delay action, WR #6 moved down the initiative order and is now acting in a 'block' with Girrigz, removing him from the top of initiative and no longer having him take actions between the rest of the party (at the end of each round) and Nebbin (who's before Girrigz).
So what I did was put all PCs in a block--everyone else's Round 4 actions and then Nebbin's Round 5 one.
NOT asking for 2 rounds of actions from everyone. :)

Sounds good to me. After the wererat den, there'll be a slight lull. It looks like the next mission will be getting Trinia out of Korvosa. The new PC might be a friend of Trinia's, an associate of Vencarlo's in the city, an associate who joins up in Harse (or wherever the PCs part ways with Trinia)...or we could come up with some other way of them joining the party.
Emileva Mavrakis |
When the new wererat, who looks like he just might be their ultimate target, makes his appearance, Emi scoots around the mushroom and attacks him. She wants to leave him the option of coming on in to the place they occupy, or giving her allies easy access to him if he doesn't, so she wedges herself in against the walls.
"Fancier company incoming!"
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 6 = 8

Ugh, Thanks. I seem to be having a problem with finding the right thread for my posts this morning.
LOL. I believe this is the first time I've seen someone post their actions in the Discussion Thread...other than myself, of course.
Nebbin Elsbet |
FYI, I've got a new direct report starting Monday, so will be spending the week onboarding him. Compound that with another employee being off, so my covering his shift at the end of the day, and I don't know how much I'll be posting this coming week. Then Friday and Saturday is Passover, so don't expect I'll be posting then and maybe not Sunday morning. I hope to be be back to regular posting April 18.
Obviously feel free to DMPC (or PPC) me.
Fírinne |
Sorry for the radio silence, everyone. I got very, very sick and was not up to doing much of anything.
Fírinne |
Well enough to be back at work! I'm trying to get caught up on my games now.
GM Crimson |
Glad to hear you're feeling better, Firinne. Any delay was my fault, though. Besides Nebbin's anticipated absence, I had two other GMs take a week off for various reasons, and I decided to have a 'quiet week' myself. But then my back started acting up and my recliner (a temporary relief method) broke, so I've been achy, grumpy, and a bit non-responsive. Trying to work my way out of the doldrums.
I bought and tried Hot Tamales flavored Peeps which were on post-Easter sale today. Those did not help. (Not terrible, but not good.)
Fírinne |
Yeah, that's...not a flavor/texture combo I'd want to try out.
GM Crimson |
Heh. Not sure I've ever had a blue one. Yellow is what I always used to eat. Last year I tried root beer ones. Again, OK but not great. My sister literally called me an hour ago to ask if I wanted some Hot Tamales Peeps; she was buying Chocolate Pudding ones for herself.
For this year at least, Russell Stover's Maple Creme Eggs passed Cadbury Creme Eggs as my Easter favorite.

Peeps are made right down the road from me. I'll eat one or two of the standard ones if they show up, but the flavored ones are pretty dreadful -- back when I was in the newsroom, they almost always sent new flavors to us in hopes we'd review them or something, I guess. We almost never did, but they'd get put out for anyone to take if they wanted. And that center counter was tough to resist.

Yay! Thanks Firinne! Now maybe we can toss it the spare dead wererats to keep it occupied while we go the hell away?
I'd started my post before Emi made this comment and had already typed the bit about the otyugh offering to eat the dead wererats. Just wanted to point out that Emi's now starting to think like an otyugh. Not the best look for her! ;P
Nebbin Elsbet |
With Tassira having departed, Kayleigh's become the party's best diplomat (+13 modifier)...but she's mostly an NPC. Do you want me to have Kayleigh make the rolls for Diplomacy (like in this negotiation with the wererats and otyugh) or would you rather have Emileva (+9) make the roll with a +2 Aid Another bonus from Kayleigh when applicable?
I'm fine either way. We'd presumably have built things differently if we knew with didn't have a diplomat/face in the group, however, so I'm fine with Kayleigh continuing to do the rolls at least.
Fírinne |
Hey, I'm an arcane caster! Mostly! :P
But yeah, it can be pretty hard to get through without any full caster PCs. I know we've got Kayleigh to keep us on our feet, but that's a bit more pressure than our GM needs. I'm fine with recruiting a 4th.

Hey folks! Just wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself.
First off, I'm a friend of Nebbin/motteditor. I hope that builds some goodwill for me :)
I'm also a long time PbP player, and have been playing this way for about as long as I've been playing Pathfinder. I really enjoy wizards, so I hope you all don't mind me bringing a wizard to the game.
On a personal note, I'm a 43 year old guy who works in sales for a large tech company. Outside work I spend my time with my wife and 4 year old daughter, who are both delightfully entertaining. I live just outside Montreal, Canada and yes, I also speak French. Poutine is delicious, especially with chicken added in.
Thanks for having me. I'm stoked about playing this!
GM Crimson |
Welcome aboard!
I've never had poutine, but it sounds intriguing. Wouldn't the gravy get cold fast in winter? Or do you wolf it down so fast that doesn't become a problem?
Fírinne |
Wizards are great! We can compare spellbooks.
Andrezi Mardu |
Thanks for the welcome!
Poutine is not at all healthy, and is not to everyone's taste, but it's the local fare that I love. So yes, of course we eat it fast. We need that gravy to line our insides during the winter months.
And I am all for spell sharing. Once I get introduced we can get that ball rolling!

Once again I'm very sorry it's taking me so long to get posts up. Both April and early May have been just overwhelming. My workload is up and we transitioned back to working in the office part time. Since I work for the state and all such changes happen at all state offices it was a big change with many, many meetings and emails involved. On top of that many federal rules changed at the start of may as Covid-19 policies and procedures are replaced with 2+ year old versions from before. That meant many more meetings and emails.
Meetings would sometimes run so long over their scheduled slots they would completely swallow the meetings scheduled behind them, which would then have to be rescheduled. With all this going on we also still had our regular work to get done somehow. I also had a pet die. It's been a lot.
I think I'm mostly in the clear now with work and things will be returning to normal again. I'll be catching up on gameplay over the two or three days.
I hope I haven't been too much trouble to wait for.
Emileva Mavrakis |
Welcome Andrezi!
I was at the American Anthropological Association's annual conference when it was held in Montreal some years back. I liked the city, but between being busy with the conference and it being January I didn't explore it as much as I would have liked.
I did have poutine and I liked it! But I'm from the south (Tennessee) originally so gravy on fried stuff is familiar territory for me. :)
Andrezi Mardu |
Thanks for the welcome! I haven't had a chance to make it to Tennessee yet, but I'm working on a project that's located in Nashville so with any luck I'll be allowed to go onsite.
And I'm doubly glad you enjoyed poutine!
Fírinne |
Have fun!
