Racial Traits:
Dual Talent: Some humans are uniquely skilled at maximizing their natural gifts. These humans pick two ability scores and gain a +2 racial bonus in each of those scores. This racial trait replaces the +2 bonus to any one ability score, the bonus feat, and the skilled traits.

(+2 to INT and CHA)

Class Features:
Arcane Reservoir (Su): An arcanist has an innate pool of magical energy that she can draw upon to fuel her arcanist exploits and enhance her spells. The arcanist's arcane reservoir can hold a maximum amount of magical energy equal to 3 + the arcanist's level. Each day, when preparing spells, the arcanist's arcane reservoir fills with raw magical energy, gaining a number of points equal to 3 + 1/2 her arcanist level. Any points she had from the previous day are lost. She can also regain these points through the consume spells class feature and some arcanist exploits. The arcane reservoir can never hold more points than the maximum amount noted above; points gained in excess of this total are lost.

Points from the arcanist reservoir are used to fuel many of the arcanist's powers. In addition, the arcanist can expend 1 point from her arcane reservoir as a free action whenever she casts an arcanist spell. If she does, she can choose to increase the caster level by 1 or increase the spell's DC by 1. She can expend no more than 1 point from her reservoir on a given spell in this way.

Arcanist Exploits: By bending and sometimes even breaking the rules of magic, the arcanist learns to exploit gaps and exceptions in the laws of magic. Some of these exploits allow her to break down various forms of magic, adding their essence to her arcane reservoir. At 1st level and every 2 levels thereafter, the arcanist learns a new arcane exploit. An arcanist exploit cannot be selected more than once. Once an arcanist exploit has been selected, it cannot be changed. Most arcanist exploits require the arcanist to expend points from her arcane reservoir to function. Unless otherwise noted, the saving throw DC for an arcanist exploit is equal to 10 + 1/2 the arcanist's level + the arcanist's Charisma modifier.

Familiar: An arcanist with this exploit can acquire a familiar as the arcane bond wizard class feature, using her arcanist level as her wizard level to determine any of the statistics and abilities of the familiar. If the arcanist receives a familiar from another class, her levels of arcanist stack with the levels from that class when determining the familiar's statistics and abilities (this ability does not stack with a familiar gained through the bloodline development exploit; she must choose one or the other). Familiar: Cat!

Quick Study: The arcanist can prepare a spell in place of an existing spell by expending 1 point from her arcane reservoir. Using this ability is a full-round action that provokes an attack of opportunity. The arcanist must be able to reference her spellbook when using this ability. The spell prepared must be of the same level as the spell being replaced.

Lightning Lance: The arcanist can unleash a lance of lightning by expending 1 point from her arcane reservoir and making a ranged touch attack against any one target within 30 feet. If the attack hits, it deals 1d6 points of electricity damage + the arcanist’s Charisma modifier, plus 1d6 points of electricity damage for every 2 levels beyond 1st (to a maximum of 10d6 at 19th level). The target’s vision is also impaired, causing the target to treat all creatures as if they had concealment (20%) for 1 round. It can attempt a Fortitude saving throw to negate the impaired vision.

Consume Spells (Su): At 1st level, an arcanist can expend an available arcanist spell slot as a move action, making it unavailable for the rest of the day, just as if she had used it to cast a spell. She can use this ability a number of times per day equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 1). Doing this adds a number of points to her arcane reservoir equal to the level of the spell slot consumed. She cannot consume cantrips (0 level spells) in this way. Points gained in excess of the reservoir's maximum are lost.

Spellbook!:

1- Mage Armour, Colour Spray, Grease, Identify, Comprehend Languages, Charm Person, Magic Missile, Burning Hands, Feather Fall, Magic Weapon, Protection from Evil, Summon Monster 1

2- Darkvision, Hypnotic Pattern, Bull's Strength, Web, Invisibility

3- Dispel Magic, Haste, Lightning Bolt

Necromancer Spellbook:
3rd level: fly, gentle repose, vampiric touch, water breathing
2nd level: blindness/deafness, command undead, darkness, false life, scare, scorching ray, spectral hand
1st level: cause fear, chill touch, feather fall, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, shield, sleep

Background
---------------------
I'm a little surprised that you want to learn more about me. I didn't think there was much to tell—well, not at first anyway. But I suppose with those ugly rumours going around about me, I should've expected something like this. At least you were nice enough to actually get to the source of things instead of believing everything you hear.

At any rate, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tassira—Tassira Vantyev. Once the star pupil of Victarion Leroung of Theumanexus College, now… just another girl with a cat by her side and a spellbook in hand. Or so I’d like to think. My family is mostly made up of well-to-do merchants who made it rich, and spent most of that wealth giving back to the poor and homeless of Korvosa. Have you ever visited the Heights district? My family owns a house there.

My father, Maric, is a shrewd businessman who takes pride in making great sales. My mother Cassandra is a sorceress of no small talent. I also have an older brother Olaf… well, he’s a bit of a shifty one. He’s expressed an interest in becoming a merchant like Father, but Father is concerned that he may end up falling in with the wrong crowd.

Myself? Well, I learned from an early age that I had a talent for magic, much to Mother’s dismay. See, sorcerers aren’t exactly welcomed with open arms in Korvosa—how can they be, considering the Acadamae considers them to be threats to themselves and their power? Since they can’t control what such a person can learn of magic—especially considering a sorcerer’s magic can manifest in countless different ways—they always do their best to paint sorcerers as being dangerous to themselves and others.

Still, I imagine it’s better than being trained to become a slave of Hell.

With my mother’s help, I started trying to channel my sorcerous talents into the more socially acceptable path of wizardry. As much as I’d like to say I succeeded, I was only partially successful in doing so—I learned to scribe scrolls into a spellbook like every other wizard, and was even able to turn the family cat into my familiar. Here she is—her name’s Ravnos. She’s quite friendly, don’t worry; she’ll let anyone pet her.

When I grew older, I sought to enroll in Theumanexus College to continue my studies instead of the so-called ‘great’ Acadamae of Korvosa. They’re too fond of summoning devils and binding them for anyone’s good, and from what I’ve heard around town, they keep an iron grip on what spells a student is and isn’t allowed to learn. They’d only accept wizards who chose to specialize in a chosen school anyway—and the day they let someone like me in would be the day Asmodeus turns his back on Cheliax.

Are they more skilled with magic? Yes. There’s no question of that. But Theumanexus offered more to me than any two-bit devil with a contract ever could.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to last…

I spent five years learning all I could in Theumanexus. I held my teacher in high esteem: Victarion Leroung is a man dedicated to his craft, and saw in me the potential to unlock the higher mysteries of magic that even Toff Ornelos, headmaster of the Acadamae, could not. That’s not to say he gave me any special treatment. Definitely not. If anything, he pushed me harder than he did any of his other students, demanding nothing short of perfection.

It was... difficult. The pressures of meeting my master's expectations drove me to seek some sort of relief from the constant stress of learning magic. One of my classmates introduced me to a drug called 'shiver'--said that it could give me wild dreams, and a bit of respite from having to study all the time.

I got hooked. My grades suffered. Then I took too much and almost died.

The experience convinced me to quit the stuff cold turkey, but by the time I was completely free of the stuff, Victarion had more or less written me off as a failure. I still graduated, but he found himself a new pupil to mould into the next spellcaster that would knock the Acadamae from its lofty perch. Hmph.

The whole thing... changed me, and I'm not sure if it was for the better. I made it my mission to make sure that such a horrible experience would never be repeated in Korvosa, ever again, for anyone. I found out from my former classmate who sold the most shiver around the college... someone named Gaedren Lamm.

I'm going to purge this city of that horrible drug. Might as well start with the man who almost killed me.

Description & Personality
---------------------
Before you stands a tall, willowy, pale-skinned young lady with back-length black hair tied back in a ponytail at the base of her neck. Tassira is clad in a faded green vest & undershirt with many pockets lining the vest, and faded green leggings ending in brown, calf-length leather boots. Her storm-grey eyes seem to stare past you, off into the distance. A plain dagger is in her belt, and a light crossbow is in her hands. A well-made leather backpack is on her back, and a quarrel of 20 crossbow bolts is at her hip.

Tassira approaches every day of her life the same way: with grace, dogged persistence, and a sense of wonder & warmth that masks a great deal of anxiety under the surface. While she's eager to serve her family & city faithfully, she feels a great deal of pressure to do well, and she tends to take setbacks more harshly than other people. She's got a chip on her shoulder regarding her experiences with drugs--the mere mention of the drug shiver is enough to get her riled up. She's made it her personal mission to purge the drug from Korvosa's streets, to the point where she can be too reckless for her own good in pursuit of that mission.

Traits & Drawback
---------------------
(Campaign) Drug Addict: *sigh* Yes, I lapsed into taking shiver to cope with the pressures of college life, and it nearly killed me. I'll thank you kindly to not bring up the subject again. The experience hardened my body against other toxins and whatnot, so at least it helped me in *that* regard. I have a +1 bonus to Fortitude saves.

(Magic) Focused Mind: Victarion Leroung is an accomplished mage, and he pushed me to excel in every magical endeavour I could. His lessons more or less forced me to focus exclusively on them to have a hope of passing them. That training, as harsh as it was, has paid off for me so far. In fact, it's granted me a +2 bonus to concentration checks.

(Social) Friend in Every Town: My family's always encouraged us to be outgoing, sociable sorts, no matter what strata of society we find ourselves interacting with. That way of thinking has paid off greatly for us--well, for me at least. I'm more up-to-date on the latest news in the city, and a welcoming smile has opened many a door for me--both literally and metaphorically. I gain a +1 bonus to Knowledge (Local) and Diplomacy checks, and Diplomacy is always a class skill for me.
