Big project due today, please pardon my lack of post. Next few posts are fairly wordy. Back on schedule tonight.

Don't worry man! We're moving swiftly!

Well done team and GM! You're all doing a fine job!
Updated and improved our Gold Sheet. I've allowed everyone to edit, so if you want to know how far off the treasure you are just put your equipment and the price you paid for it under your name (Half its price if it was found).
@Ramage Is the Dust of Illusion a consumable? Or can it be used at will?
Also, how many pieces are there in the reward the Chief granted us?
I've aggregated the Platinum, gold silver and cooper under a single name: Tartuk's hoard.
Red Ramage |
The dust is a single use item. The kobolds rewarded you with 200 gold worth of silver nuggets each (total 1,000g). This is about two pounds of silver nuggets per person. Do consider the weight of your treasure. As you have horses it's not an impediment, but converting treasure to portable forms should interest you for exploration.
Pretty |
In the middle of the stolen lands this could be a problem.... I'll divide our sheet, then.

Been working on the map situation. I put the four poster maps together in paint and saved it as a PNG, which came out to be 8.3mb. I've edited it with pixlr to put a fog of war layer on it, as well as text layer and a couple other things. Putting the layers on it increases the file size to 9.5mb when saved as BMP or pixlr's internal use format, but saving the image as PNG drops it to 1.5mb. I know very little about image compression so I'm scratching my head as to how an 8.3mb PNG can get turned into a 1.5mb PNG. Perhaps Pixlr has a better compression algorithm? 1.5mb is small enough to upload to google drive, but the quality looks good on my computer, bad on google drive. Compare the scratched-together world map in my link to this version I've been working on
I wonder if drive imposes some loss on the picture to limit the file size, or if it's just a scaling issue. The part I like best about drive is the ability to toss a link into my profile that always points to the most recent version of the map. Every time a hex gets explored, I'll edit the base image by erasing part of the fog of war layer. It'd be nice to just do that and save the image, not having to update the profile link from, say, somekindoffilestorage.com/kingmakermap121413 to somekindoffilestorage.com/kingmakermap121513.
just ramblin'
Walter das Sombras |
Well, it looks good here. I can read "Sootscale Caverns", the Old Sycamore, Oleg's, South Rostland Road and Restov (although I need to zoom in).
Every image file has its quality based on pixels per inch or dots per inch. The more dots per inch the better the quality and the bigger the file (since its actual size - 100% - will be different). If you try to update the bmp or the first png you can check if it is the g.drive
Be back later
Seraphina Medvyed |
It all looks good to me! I am among the image challenged, so I'm of little help.
Kivan Corsan |
Not very good with that sort of stuff, but it looks great to me.
Walter das Sombras |
Otherwise if you use the online storage that updates as your PC folder and save the new file over the previous one, using the same name. It will get updated in the server so you don't have to change your profile link.
Anyway, I would upload the background map to google Docs (as a drawing instead of presentation) and create layers of transparent or fully black hexes/regions. Like I did on this one. You're able to move it to check it out.
I think that got to the point, right?
Red Ramage |
replaced my pleb-tier xp word document with a spreadsheet. Not nearly as pretty as our resident tax lawyer's, but it'll have to do ;D

The mites have been defeated and the Sootscales saved. Following this event, you've earned access to custom story feats:
Swordpoint Diplomacy
You know what's in store when talking fails.
Earned from: Defeating Tartuk without a single kobold casualty.
Available to: The whole party
Benefit: You gain a +4 bonus to initiative checks. This does not stack with Improved Initiative. In addition, you gain a +3 morale bonus to Diplomacy and Intimidate checks against creatures that threaten to fight you. If you already have Improved Initiative, you may substitute this feat for free.
Bloodline Awakening
You've made a startling discovery about your heritage.
Earned from: Learning about the source of your power
Available to: Seraphina
Benefit: You may use the claws granted by your bloodline at will, instead of a number of rounds/day. In addition, add +1 to the DC to resist your bloodline spells and spells with the energy descriptor of your bloodline's type.
Independent Combatant
Standing alone against a multitude of foes holds no dread for you.
Earned from: Holding off the mite reinforcements without taking any damage.
Available to: Pretty
Benefit: When there is no ally within 5 feet of you, you gain +1 to AC and attack rolls for every enemy that threatens you (maximum +4).
A Better Way
You are reluctant to shed blood, seeing more value in knowledge than violence.
Earned from: Constantly advocating mercy, using magic to subdue many times.
Available to: Kivan
Benefit: You gain the benefits of the Merciful Spell metamagic feat. In addition, you gain a +1 bonus to all knowledge skills and may make any knowledge skill check untrained.
Dedicated Combatant
You live for the thrill of battle, and it shows.
Earned from: Being reduced to 0 hp and continued fighting against a CR+2 creature.
Available to: Idris
Benefit: You gain the benefits of the Diehard feat. In addition, your displays of combat prowess inspire a +1 morale bonus to attack rolls for any ally that can see you fighting. You count as your own ally and receive this bonus as well. This bonus stacks with other morale bonuses.
These feats may be selected just as normal feats. Don't feel compelled to take them, I won't be offended if you don't. Maja, I have one in mind for you that you're on the path to completing. It'll be worth the wait, don't feel left out!
Idris of the Blade |
Cool! My feats are pretty tight for the next few levels, as I have a very specific plan for Idris, but I'll take one or both of the ones I can use as soon as I reasonably can.
Brief run-down of future plans:
3rd level: Master of Many styles Monk, for crane style and crane wing.
4th level: Back to fighter, Weapon focus: Dueling sword, retraining dodge into Dazzling Display
5th level: Fighter again, here's where I could take a feat such as the ones above. However, weapon specialization is pretty tempting, albeit rather boring.
6th level: Aldori swordlord prestige class. This will get me Dex to damage with the sword, and Aldori Dueling Mastery as a bonus feat.

Whoa whoa! Those are nice hun! I'll take mine on third level, just to immortalize the moment ^_^
By the way the sheet looks nice. Add some soft colors, freeze the top line, adjust the width and it will be better than mine!
Did you see the map thing?
Red Ramage |
Yes, that map is what I've been after. Initially I couldn't use google drive because of the large file size of my base map (8.5mb PNG). Putting it up on Pixlr and saving it with the fog of war layer, then saving it, reduced the file size to 1.5mb, also PNG, for reasons that I cannot fathom. Uploading that 1.5mb file to google drive results in a lower-resolution image, despite looking good at the same zoom level when I view it with windows picture viewer. I'm trying to figure out why that's happening and if a different file type will be handled better by google drive. Paizo has such gosh-durn pretty artwork in their stuff, it seems a shame to lose resolution when using it!
Pretty |
You said there were 4 maps you put together. You can always upload the 4 separately to google docs and line them up. You can use the drive to fog them up later.
Red Ramage |
Solution found! I saved the image as a bandwith-friendly JPEG and put it in my dropbox public file and it comes out at full resolution. The link in my profile here should always point to the most current revision. I updated the map to reflect your visit to the bandit camp. Let me know how this works for you!
Pretty |
Seems nice to me.

Love the old-timey language in the booke. Tis wondrous.

Exploration of a hex takes an in-game day to fully scout and map. Each hex is 12 miles in diameter, which makes it 93.53 square miles (thanks, wolfram alpha!). During the course of this exploration, you will automatically find certain encounters, have a chance at a random encounter, and get to roll for stuff like "can we mine something here?" and "is there a hidden secret here?".
At this point, the only explored hex is Oleg's. I can put a tiny green check mark on explored hexes, or any other way to signify their status that you'd prefer.
As you explore, you push back the fog of war. Hexes that you've been in or explored are revealed, and adjacent hexes are greyed-out. You have an idea of what's in those, but nothing specific.

I have yet to create a Campaign Info thread for this game. I don't want to call it "Red Ramage's" kingmaker because it's not mine, it's yours. Could you do me a favor and hash out a name for your group that I might appropriately title the campaign?
Pretty |
I do believe you invest at least thrice the time we do, so in My opinion you could call it that for sure.
I don't have any particular ideas for names atm. Maybe later.
By the way, I'm really enjoying the game. The custom talents got me smiling like a child ^_^
Kivan Corsan |
Go for it. I like the name Red Rampage's Kingmaker (though you should probably say queenmaker in this case).
Pretty |
RA-RA-RA-RAMPAGE!
I laughed. You do realized that is wrong, right Maja?
Otherwise Queenmaker sounds nice, if Kivan is not offended. He will eventually become our best friend ^_^
Idris of the Blade |
That's one reason I voted for recruiting someone else, because there'd be a good chance it was a male character. Of course, Idris is anything but girly. (Not that there's anything wrong with being girly.)
Red Ramage |
To be picky, it's "ramage", not "rampage". Lawson P. "Red" Ramage was a medal of honor winning submarine captain in the US submarine service during world war 2. I got started playing video games WAY back in the day with Silent Hunter, a sub sim. I liked the name and it's been my handle ever since. I'm not mad, just letting you know :)
Pretty |
I'd like to explore. Our horses can take some more "whatever" we find.
Pretty |
Also, just to make sure:
I've taken the boots, Kivan the wand, Sera the amulet and bracers?
Is that correct? Haven't anyone claimed the cloak?
Idris of the Blade |
Wow, what a weekend. Spouse and I got paid friday, we go shopping, take kids out for a nice dinner, buy a tree, bring it home atop the car, come in the house, and find out we've been robbed! Someone smashed in the back sliding glass door, grabbed the family computer (an old laptop), the Wii, and the oldest's personal laptop. Kids are very upset and there's glass all over the kitchen floor. Took some serious effort to get things back to normal.
Saturday night we had set up and decorated the tree, and then we were sitting there watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and suddenly the tree starts toppling over! I make a dive for it and catch it before it hits the floor, saving many ornaments.
Then on Sunday we saw Hobbit, which was excellent. So, crazy weekend.
Pretty |
Indeed it sounds crazy. Did you manage to recover your stolen goods?
Idris of the Blade |
Not yet, the police have been notified of the serial number on the newer laptop, now all we can do is hope someone tries to pawn it or something.
Idris of the Blade |
Thanks for your well-wishes, everyone.
What exactly is entailed in "exploring" a Hex?
-Posted with Wayfinder
Pretty |
I believe it is knowing the hex lay-out and had explored basically everything on it, having an overall view of everything there is in it. Of course we might mean a lot of things like a dead body, for instance, but buildings or caves we will certainly find.
Then, if we've cleared the hex we know its safer than the ones we don't know, and that we won't probably need to return to it, but may use it to make something later when the kingdom making starts (farms or whatever I don't know).
Red Ramage |
Yikes! Hopefully your stuff is recovered, but I'm glad it was your property damaged and not you.
Exploring a hex means covering it thoroughly, taking note of what all is there and mapping it. Your charter from the Swordlords of Restov commands you to explore a designated area and pacify it. After SPOILERZ you are granted the right to rule OH NO /SPOILERZ you will be able to settle explored hexes and add them to your realm. There are a number of "hex improvements" that can be built in these hexes that add stats to your brand-spankin'-new king Queendom. Farms are one of them. Full kingdom building details shall be laid out when relevant. For a preview, you can read the Kingdoms and War section of Ultimate Campaign. It's slightly different than the system as presented in the AP, but 90% the same and we might go with the UC version.
Red Ramage |
What do you guys think of the green outline on explored hexes? Too subtle? I'm trying to do something that's clear but doesn't detract from the map.
Pretty |
At first I thought it was alright, but then once we have enough hexes explored it can get confused. Maybe use a larger green line (your "hand line" is pretty good btw) or do a Green-filled triangle at the top of the hex?
Pretty |
That's an endless discussion about the cold resistance, but I do play a Reign of Winter campaign where the DM considers the damage from cold weather exposure as cold damage, and it has made the adventure way easier, to the point where aasimars and tieflings don't even have to worry about the whole theme of the campaign. I don't like it at all, and think considering it cold damage would greatly empower the elemental resistance I have, while at the same time giving less credit to the change of weather in the campaign, and I just don't think it is appropriate. I like the weather effects and to be vulnerable to them, so let's keep it that way. We have the wonder Maja to save us! ^_^
After all, our lungs have no protection, right?
Red Ramage |
I'm assuming posting will be sparse over the next few days as everybody gets s%$!faced on adult eggnog and gets into bitter political arguments before exchanging gifts. At least, that's how my christmas usually goes.
Seraphina Medvyed |
Big brother, is that you? XD
Sounds very familiar. ^_^
I'll still be checking in, not sure what we're doing just now though. Do we all need to cross to consider this hex explored?
Idris of the Blade |
I just noticed on the loot table that no one seems to have claimed the cloak of resistance. Kivan doesn't seem to have gotten anything from the loot lately, so maybe he should take it. If he doesn't want it, Idris will take it.
Pretty |
Haven't anyone claimed the cloak?
Pretty has already taken the boots, and sorry for spoiling it but I would suggest Maja taking up the cloak. If she falls to a sleep spell or in nauseated our stamina in combat hardly decreases.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL! HAVE A GOOD TIME!
Red Ramage |
Alrighty! Back from the holidays. No blows exchanged and I'm still in the family. I am back on our normal posting pace now.
